[Bug 58232] Re: gnome-terminal does not start when using xinerama and nvidia
I can confirm this problem using Edgy (64bit, gnome) and nvidia-glx. I can also confirm that disabling the the work-around suggested by jamespharaoh (disabling the composite extension) does work. I'm going to see if I can get the latest nvidia-glx drivers installed manually - if that solves the problem (without disabling the composite extension), I will report it here. ** Attachment added: "An xorg.conf with Xinerama enabled and the composite extension disabled - it works too!" http://librarian.launchpad.net/5084350/xorg.conf -- gnome-terminal does not start when using xinerama and nvidia https://launchpad.net/bugs/58232 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 72005] OSS apps no longer works, just ALSA, strange hal-device output
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: hal I've a bug I can't assign a package easily so I'm reporting it as a HAL bug just because hal-device-manager also shows the problem for example. This is an AMD64 box with Ubuntu 6.10. I had an SB Live! soundcard, softwares written for making sound though both of ALSA and OSS are worked fine. However I've installed a TV tuner card yesterday (Cinergy TV400, SAA7134 chip based). First, I had to play to reorder my PCI card because sound and tuner card affected each other (even lspci don't show one), but now both of them works. However only for ALSA! It seems, audio capabilities of SAA7134 is treated as primary (I even had to use Gnome's sound preferences to set default sound card from SAA7134 to SB Live!) because ALSA apps tried use SAA7134 by default. Ok, it's done. However OSS emulation of ALSA has problems: it tries to use SAA7134, so OSS apps can't make sound now. How can I set up OSS apps to go on working? However the strange thing (the fact that I report this as bug of HAL for): even hal-device-manager states that both of "SB Live! EMU10k1" and "SAA7134 video broadcast decoder" has item "SAA 7134 OSS Midi Device", the latter one has got this three times ... Please note that it does not disturb me too much, my one problem that OSS apps should continue to work with my SB Live! however I can't rank this problem for a package easily as I've written. Maybe it's an ALSA bug, or is it only the lack of some config settings somewhere? ** Affects: hal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- OSS apps no longer works, just ALSA, strange hal-device output https://launchpad.net/bugs/72005 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 61381] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashes at login
I started a (lonely) thread at ubuntuforums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=290822 that details my problem. One apparently unusual feature of my problem is that I see no errors anywhere and am unable to post a backtrace. I've had this happen on 5 successive rebuilds over the last few weeks, one with Dapper (all on the same machine). I've started to watch carefully and the last time I installed I got the behaviour after bringing the OS up-to-date and installing nvidia drivers and java - nothing else. It *always* happens after a shutdown as opposed to a restart. I've just installed a CLI version of Edgy and manually installed X, nvidia drivers, and other bare-essentials, but I'd like to have a *full* install. This thread seems to be all over the place in terms of symptoms. Is there anyone with a sense of how or if they are tied together? Is there something I could post (or do) that would be of help? -- gnome-settings-daemon crashes at login https://launchpad.net/bugs/61381 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 71970] problem with external links when they contain a "%"
Public bug reported: I have a pdf document with plenty of hyperlinks like "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcade%20game";. When use xpdf, if I click on one of these links, a browser starts at the correct address. However, if I use evince, the "%" sign is escaped to "%25", which results in the following (incorrect) url: "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcade%2520game"; ** Affects: evince (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- problem with external links when they contain a "%" https://launchpad.net/bugs/71970 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 41682] Re: CD burner does not respect burn speed?
Don't want to start another bug for this, because this is related: Nautilus CD burner does not seem to recognize the maximum burn speeds of my drive / the cd's to be burned. If I right click the cd icon on the desktop and select Copy Disc, I can choose a write speed from the menu. The choices go as high as 11x which I think my drive doesn't even support. Furthermore if I select Maximum possible the burn process allways fails and I get a message like 'try to use slower write speed'. Should the Maximum possible first evaluate the capabilities of the drive and then the disc, or how does it work? My drive is QSI CD-RW/DVD-ROM SBW242B and it has these capabilities according to device manager: storage.cdrom.write_speed : 1762 (0x6e2) I don't know what does that 1762 mean and my laptop's manual didn't mention the speed of the drive but I believe that it was something like 4x for CD-RW and not much more with CD-R. So the list should not go as high as 11x... -- CD burner does not respect burn speed? https://launchpad.net/bugs/41682 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 70786] Re: "Username" field contains nonsensical tooltip
There is a menubutton for that menu already. And if you can move the mouse to view the tooltip, you can move the mouse to click the menubutton without pressing F10. See http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=362855 IMHO it would be a good idea to integrate it in edgy-updates to help a little bit poor developpers flooded by crash reports. :) As this patch was integrated in the stable branch, i suppose there is no major problem with it. ** Affects: bug-buddy (upstream) Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: bug-buddy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Status: Fix Committed ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #362855 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=362855 ** Also affects: bug-buddy (upstream) via http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=362855 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Changed in: bug-buddy (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Status: Unconfirmed => Fix Committed -- Need more information in bug-buddy reports https://launchpad.net/bugs/71942 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 71930] Drawer resizing on the edge of the screen causes it to freeze
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel there's a drawer problem. When the drawer is on the edge of the screen for a panel that's is set to autohide, it gets stuck when I try to resize the drawer. If the drawer is open and its against the edge of the screen, I would choose the properties and resize the drawer and it would try to resize against the edge of the screen. It wouldn't work and then it would put the size back. This would repeat and it would give the illusion that's it's vibrating. It would keep doing this over and over and basically freeze the machine. * I'd have a panel that's against an edge of the screen. In my case it was a panel on the bottom of the screen that's set to autohide but had the buttons on the side to slide it to be hidden. * There'd be a drawer on the edge of the panel, next to the edge of the screen. * The drawer would be open at certain size, 24 i think, and while it's open I would right click the drawer at put the size to 48. * This is where it would stick as it repeatedly tries to resize the drawer and fails. The machine would freeze at this point. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Drawer resizing on the edge of the screen causes it to freeze https://launchpad.net/bugs/71930 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: I'm pretty sure that in dapper, nautilus 2.14, when right-clicking on a CD drive, I was offered to "copy CD", which I could use to get an ISO image of the CD/DVD. I upgraded my computer to edgy, and now in "Computer", if I right click my DVD or CD drives, there is no such option anymore. [Bug 55223] Re: HAL stats nfs and autofs mounts, preventing autofs timeouts from working
I do believe your test case is not testing what the patch solves. The problem I was trying to solve was that after autofs mounted a location, hald would stat that mount on a regular basis, preventing the autofs auto-unmount timeouts from expiring and unmounting the mount. A proper test would be: $ df | grep '/net/some.nfs.server/foo' (expected: nothing) $ ls -l /net/some.nfs.server/foo $ df | grep '/net/some.nfs.server/foo' (expected: mount info for /net/some.nfs.server/foo) $ sleep 120 (or whatever your autofs timeout is) $ df | grep '/net/some.nfs.server/foo' (expected: nothing) -- HAL stats nfs and autofs mounts, preventing autofs timeouts from working https://launchpad.net/bugs/55223 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 30867] Re: [Dapper] nautilus shows drive labels instead of volume labels
I found that selecting a partition in GParted and clicking "device > set disklabel" allows the user to change the label but apparently this results in the erasing of all data on the drive/partition. [Bug 55223] Re: HAL stats nfs and autofs mounts, preventing autofs timeouts from working
I can confirm this on a recently installed edgy. /home was mounted nfs/autofs async and didn't have a problem. /var/mail was mounted nfs/autofs sync, and opening more than one mutt, or waiting for the timeout, or something made the processes (a couple of mutts and a cat /var/mail/me) accessing /var/mail freeze. Even going to runlevel 1, I still couldn't kill them! Now I changed the file in the hal source 00upstream-05-fix-stale_nfs_handle_block.patch (in debian/patches) which already handled the nfs part of the patch. I added the autofs part. And rebuilt and installed the new hal. As far as I can tell it is solved now. I've opened several mutts, and made different changes to the inbox in different instances, and they are not complaining, but updating correctly. -- HAL stats nfs and autofs mounts, preventing autofs timeouts from working https://launchpad.net/bugs/55223 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 70005] Re: segfault on apt-get upgrade
the issue can be worked around by removing/renaming the srcpkgcache.bin and pkgcache.bin files, located in /var/cache/apt. of possible interest is bug 61708. Before discovering the workaround, I manually downgraded all feisty packages I thought would affect apt. The segfault still existed. Also, I believe the .bin files were supposed to be regenerated when they became corrupted - maybe the bug is in the corruption-detection code. -- segfault on apt-get upgrade https://launchpad.net/bugs/70005 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
