Feel free to help xine developers to debug this. I don't even have a
crashing file in question, perhaps you can attach a video and a subtitle
which triggers this to this bug?

[Bug 66124] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashes

2006-11-23 Thread Justy
I just finallly figured out the reason behind crashing of my gnome-
settings-daemon. After I erased ~/.gtkrc-2.0 everything turned back to
normal. This file (defining default GTK2 theme) was setup for QT theme
for some reason. Maybe in my case, since I also have KDE installed, it
was replaced by KDE at some point. Btw. I use Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy.

[Bug 69587] Re: Wireless Network Access Points NOT Listed

2006-11-23 Thread Steve Bourg
I have the exact same experience on three different laptops. The
systems displayed the available ESSIDs prior to the 6.10 upgrade.

System #1: HP nc6230 w/ integrated wireless NIC
02:04.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network
Connection (rev 05)

System #2: Dell Latitude D600 w/ integrated wireless NIC
 02:03.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g
Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02)

System #3: Compaq nc6000 w/ integrated wireless NIC
02:04.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg
NIC (rev 01)

I also tried a Cisco Aironet 350 PCMCIA card in System #2 and got the same
result. 'iwlist scanning' works as expected. Manually entering/typing the
desired ESSID achieves AP association. However, this is not practical for my
non-technical friends.

2006-11-23 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug reported:

suspect it's treating it as a removable harddrive or something instead?

[Bug 66355] Re: gpilotd locks up my Palm Z22

2006-11-23 Thread Matt Davey
Hi Phil,
It looks as though gnome-pilot hasn't actually been built correctly. I don't
know what steps you took (I didn't give detailed instructions, because usually
people asking for patches and building packages are old hands at this stuff).

You say you built "gnome-pilot 1.161", but 1.161 refers to one single
file from the gnome-pilot source tree. So I don't know whether you
checked out the whole gnome-pilot source from CVS (I doubt it) or just
dropped the updated gpilotd.c file into some other source distribution
of gnome-pilot.

Anyway, here are some more detailed instructions that might help you along:
1. download gnome-pilot 2.0.15 from gnome.org:

http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/gnome-pilot/2.0/gnome-pilot-2.0.15.tar.gz
2. unpack the file using 'tar xzf gnome-pilot-2.0.15.tar.gz'
3. change into the gnome-pilot-2.0.15 directory.
4. build it, configuring it to put the installation somewhere that won't
conflict with your system installation (so that if an updated Edgy version is
released you can easily upgrade). Here's how to build it:
4a. "./configure --prefix=/tmp/gp" <-- or use some other location instead of
/tmp/gp
4b. "make && make install"
5. Now, start the background daemon: "killall gpilotd; /tmp/gp/libexec/gpilotd"
6. In another window, start the corresponding config applet:
"/tmp/gp/bin/gpilotd-control-applet"

With any luck, you'll be in business, i.e. able to configure and enable the
backup conduit. You won't have Evolution conduits at this stage. If you want
those,
copy the ".conduit" files from your system installation (I'm not 100% where
they go on Ubuntu, so do 'locate e-address | grep conduit') and put them into
/tmp/gp/share/gnome-pilot/conduits/.

These instructions are off the top of my head, so apologies if I've made
some mistakes.

i can confirm, that this bug involves also xine-ui in ubuntu edgy. but,
in totem, there is 3 seconds enough to got gui freeze, in xine-ui it

nevertheless it's definitely xine bug.

by the way, i would mark this bug as critical, not low. maybe you don't
realize, but every other nation beside english speeking ones is watching
film with subtitles. and they are using totem mainly for watching films.
so totem and xine etc are unusable in 90% of uses. that is a real

[Bug 72524] Re: Epiphany steals "sensible-browser" upon install

2006-11-23 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
I didn't understand that at all: "uses the browser selected to the
preferred app capplet", what does that mean?

And sure it is the default, maybe there is some technical reason to call
it something else, but the fact remains that:

On a fairly vanilla install of Ubuntu 6.10 that has not mucked with any
browser settings, an extra installed browser rudely changes my desktop
settings behind my back with no explanation and not even telling me how
to revert. That is plain wrong and it should be fixed somewhere if not
here.

[Bug 73031] places sidebar has graphical error

2006-11-23 Thread Stefan Bethge
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

The sidebar in mode places has the ability to hold shortcuts which can be added
using drag&drop. When hovering a folder icon or anything else over that area in
the sidebar, a line indicating where the dropped item will be at appears.
If I move the icon away from the sidebar without releasing it,
the line does not disappear again and will stay there until closing nautilus.
It only appears to do that if no other vertical element has been crossed, like
when an item is dropped into the shortcut folder.

[Bug 4758] Re: After upgrade to Breezy, hierarchical folder message list no longer correct

2006-11-23 Thread Chris Wagner
...And I just seemed to be having the "blank inbox" under a dapper
installation. I went in and fiddled with some of my mail server
settings; I switched the authentication method from "TLS" to "SSL", and
my inbox came back (note, my other folders were visible before that).
Switching back to "TLS" did not seem to make my inbox go blank again.

This may not have actually been related to the encryption method; could
have been a fluke. But, FYI for anyone who might see a similar problem.

[Bug 59068] Re: Window don't get focus

2006-11-23 Thread whitetigle
I forgot to tell that I work with Xinerama and a Dual Screen Config and
4 virtual screens and a NVIDIA gfx card. Maybe this will give hints as
you'll see later.

So after several tests I found a way to get rid of the problem.
As I previously explained, closing and opening a gnome session make the problem
come back.

- So I open a new gnome session.
- I open any application and then a terminal window on my left screen.
- I try Alt+tab but it doesn't work yet.
- I drag my windows to my right screen
- I retry Alt-tab but it still doesn't work.
- I open an ssh or mysql DISTANT connection in my terminal window.
- I drag my terminal window from right screen to left screen and then... both
my screens blink, as if refreshing themselves and that's it : Alt-tab works
again.
- By the way Ctrl+Alt+tab work again.

I can make more tests, or provide with any conf file if needed.
I can tell you that Alt+tab not working is a real productivity killer when
you're used to work with the keyboard at 99% (I switch from vim to firefox a
thousand times a day to develop my apps, so this is quite annoying ).

I think this bug importance should have been listed as medium at least.

[Bug 73023] Round orange emblems have lack usability

2006-11-23 Thread Maniac
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: human-icon-theme

Some background. I use Gnome in its 'spatial' mode and rely heavily on
spatial characteristics: placement of objects, their color, form and
texture. Given this I use emblems a lot and before Edgy they played a
big and good role in easiness of access to screen objects.

Edgy brings new shiny emblems that have a unified look. While beautiful,
it reduces usability of emblems very much because it makes all emblems
to be:

- of one form
- of one color

I propose to bring back previous emblems (at least) or draw new ones. I
perfectly understand that drawing so many emblems in different colors
and forms is much harder than current set with schematic pictures. This
is why I think that returning old icons is a good option.

I've found that the nature of this issue is hard to understand for the
majority of users that use Nautilus as a file browser with 'list view'
and use emblems as an occasional eye-candy. But for us, crazy spatial
addicts, this is really a major thing. I'll attach two screenshot of my
home folder, one with edgy's emblems that makes everything
indistinguishably orange and one with old emblems that help you to pick
a needed icon in no time.

[Bug 72218] Re: track name with a question mark in it causes a seg-fault

2006-11-23 Thread Florent Mertens
Hi,

I have the exact same problem.
In fact the segfault occur when track, album or artist field contain one of
those character ? : "

It seams also to be a duplicate of #70147 even if the error message is
not the same (probably because it's not the same version of sound-
juicer)

The problem is easy to reproduce.
1. Put an audio CD
2. Open sound-juicer
3. Change one of the field so it contain one of those character ? : "
4. Extract the track

Exemple with a track name : "Track 1 ?"
that should normaly go to / home/flo/documents/Ma Musique/Unknown Artist/Unknow
Title/01 - Track 1 ?.ogg
You get the error :

"Sound Juicer could not extract this CD.
Reason: Could not open vfs file "file:///home/flo/documents/Ma
Successusique/Unknown0X1.CB0C10001P+81rtist/Unknown%20Title/01%20-%20Track%2061115106048611626638114816.00.ogg"
 for writing: Invalid parameters."

I use https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace to get a backtrace of the failure. The
file is attach to the bug report.
Tell me if you need more.

Thanks.

[Bug 59068] Re: Window don't get focus

2006-11-23 Thread whitetigle
The solution does not work anymore. The problem came back after I switched my
session to enlightenment and then back to gnome.
Removing .gnome2 folders doesn't solve the issue anymore.

To summarize the situation :
- Alt+tab from Window A to Window B doesn't put focus on window B
- to get the focus, I have to click on the window title bar.
- Ctrl+Alt+tab to switch virtual desktop doesn't work anymore.
- recreating the shortcut in system > preferences > keyboard shortcuts doesn't
resolve anything

The links provided here seems to describe somehow a similar problem :
