I just finallly figured out the reason behind crashing of my gnome- settings-daemon. After I erased ~/.gtkrc-2.0 everything turned back to normal. [Bug 66355] Re: gpilotd locks up my Palm Z22
Hi Phil, It looks as though gnome-pilot hasn't actually been built correctly. I don't know what steps you took (I didn't give detailed instructions, because usually people asking for patches and building packages are old hands at this stuff). You say you built "gnome-pilot 1.161", but 1.161 refers to one single file from the gnome-pilot source tree. So I don't know whether you checked out the whole gnome-pilot source from CVS (I doubt it) or just dropped the updated gpilotd.c file into some other source distribution of gnome-pilot. Anyway, here are some more detailed instructions that might help you along: 1. download gnome-pilot 2.0.15 from gnome.org: http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/gnome-pilot/2.0/gnome-pilot-2.0.15.tar.gz 2. unpack the file using 'tar xzf gnome-pilot-2.0.15.tar.gz' 3. change into the gnome-pilot-2.0.15 directory. 4. build it, configuring it to put the installation somewhere that won't conflict with your system installation (so that if an updated Edgy version is released you can easily upgrade). Here's how to build it: 4a. "./configure --prefix=/tmp/gp" <-- or use some other location instead of /tmp/gp 4b. "make && make install" 5. Now, start the background daemon: "killall gpilotd; /tmp/gp/libexec/gpilotd" 6. In another window, start the corresponding config applet: "/tmp/gp/bin/gpilotd-control-applet" With any luck, you'll be in business, i.e. able to configure and enable the backup conduit. You won't have Evolution conduits at this stage. If you want those, copy the ".conduit" files from your system installation (I'm not 100% where they go on Ubuntu, so do 'locate e-address | grep conduit') and put them into /tmp/gp/share/gnome-pilot/conduits/. These instructions are off the top of my head, so apologies if I've made some mistakes. -- gpilotd locks up my Palm Z22 https://launchpad.net/bugs/66355 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 59068] Re: Window don't get focus
I forgot to tell that I work with Xinerama and a Dual Screen Config and 4 virtual screens and a NVIDIA gfx card. Maybe this will give hints as you'll see later. So after several tests I found a way to get rid of the problem. As I previously explained, closing and opening a gnome session make the problem come back. - So I open a new gnome session. - I open any application and then a terminal window on my left screen. - I try Alt+tab but it doesn't work yet. - I drag my windows to my right screen - I retry Alt-tab but it still doesn't work. - I open an ssh or mysql DISTANT connection in my terminal window. - I drag my terminal window from right screen to left screen and then... both my screens blink, as if refreshing themselves and that's it : Alt-tab works again. - By the way Ctrl+Alt+tab work again. I can make more tests, or provide with any conf file if needed. I can tell you that Alt+tab not working is a real productivity killer when you're used to work with the keyboard at 99% (I switch from vim to firefox a thousand times a day to develop my apps, so this is quite annoying ). [Bug 73023] Round orange emblems have lack usability
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: human-icon-theme Some background. I use Gnome in its 'spatial' mode and rely heavily on spatial characteristics: placement of objects, their color, form and texture. Given this I use emblems a lot and before Edgy they played a big and good role in easiness of access to screen objects. Edgy brings new shiny emblems that have a unified look. While beautiful, it reduces usability of emblems very much because it makes all emblems to be: - of one form - of one color I propose to bring back previous emblems (at least) or draw new ones. I perfectly understand that drawing so many emblems in different colors and forms is much harder than current set with schematic pictures. This is why I think that returning old icons is a good option. I've found that the nature of this issue is hard to understand for the majority of users that use Nautilus as a file browser with 'list view' and use emblems as an occasional eye-candy. But for us, crazy spatial addicts, this is really a major thing. I'll attach two screenshot of my home folder, one with edgy's emblems that makes everything indistinguishably orange and one with old emblems that help you to pick a needed icon in no time. ** Affects: human-icon-theme (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Round orange emblems have lack usability https://launchpad.net/bugs/73023 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
