[Bug 74261] Re: Show Disc Number next to Album (if exists)

2006-12-04 Thread davmor2
Sorry Kristoffer I have to agree with the below. There is no
stipulation on how small a feature is but it needs to go to a different
team otherwise it will never get added. Please read the below message
and send your spec to the link, where the devs can actually receive it
and act accordingly.

Thanks for your report. Your idea might get more attention and have
the possibility of being implemented if you would submit a
specification for this.

You should first check whether it already exists at the Ubuntu specs
page (https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+specs) in Launchpad. If
that is the case, feel free to contact the drafter of that spec about
your comments/suggestions. Otherwise you can start writing a spec
following the steps described in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeatureSpecifications.

2006-12-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Fixed with that upload:

 bug-buddy (2.17.2-0ubuntu1) feisty; urgency=low
 .
   * Sync with Debian
   * New upstream version:
 - Fix last minute problems on 2.17.1 with the link button
 - Don't set priority/severity on non-crashers.
   * Changes from 2.17.0:
 - Add more system info to bug-buddy reports
 - Misc fixes
 - Ask the user to fill the report in English
 - Add a X-GNOME-Bugzilla-ExtraInfoScript/bugzilla:extra_info_script
   field to allow applications to run a custom script to collect
   more information (based on an idea from Federico Mena-Quintero)
 - Only load current application icon. Improves performace from 10% to 90%.
 - Limit stack traces deep
 - Add a help button
 - Use a new window to allow the user review the information. Allow him
   to copy/edit this information.
   * debian/patches/00_menu-change.patch:
   - MenusRevisited spec
   * debian/watch:
 - updated

2006-12-04 Thread Fabio Marzocca
I know that.
But, 99% of gnome users wil get confused by reading Kib, Gib instead of KB, GB.
As baobab is a gnome-utils component and all major Gnome applications such as
nautilus are using KB,MB and GB, it is a matter of consistancy to keep symbols
as they are now.

[Bug 74271] hald uses all of the cpu

2006-12-04 Thread Lars Pohlmann
Public bug reported:

(using ubuntu-feisty).

on one (sony vaio pcg-fx-501) of my two laptops (same feisty on both) hald uses
more than 40% of cpu all the time.
preventing the fan to stop and making the system slow. the other laptop doesn't
have these symptoms.

in the laptop there are two pcmcia-cards (wlan and pcmcia-to-usb2 [with
one external harddrive attached to it]).

edit: this problem remains, when i boot the laptop without the pcmcia-
cards attached.

I don't know how to debug problems like these, so please tell me the
information you need (and how to get them, maybe).

2006-12-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
This upload fixes the problem:

 system-tools-backends (2.1.0-0ubuntu1) feisty; urgency=low
 .
   * New upstream version:
 - added a lightweight C/Glib/DBus messages dispatcher,
   improves memory usage *a lot* during inactivity, and allows the
   development of modules in other languages than perl
   * Changes from 2.0.0:
 - handle zoneinfo as links
 - do not double escape quotes when running certain commands
 - Improve PPP info parsing in IfacesConfig
 - Fix infinite loop if the chatscript contains tabs
 - Improve NFS shares parsing
 - Use localstatedir to save the pidfile
 - Added Yellow Dog Linux, behaves like FC
 - Improve distribution detection
 - include test-backends in tarballs
   * debian/control.in:
 - Build-Depends on libglib2.0-dev (= 2.4), libdbus-1-dev (= 0.35),
   libdbus-glib-1-dev (= 0.35)
   * debian/system-tools-backends.init.dbus:
 - updated the daemon file to use
   * debian/system-tools-backends.install:

[Bug 35217] Re: no indication when login fails due to lack of disk space

2006-12-04 Thread chombee
I had a user with this same problem. In his case, he filled up the disk
by downloading stuff, then the next time he booted the computer GNOME
fails to start, just dumps you back at GDM with no explanation. He had
an essay to write and had absolutely no idea why his computer had
completely stopped working, or what to do about it. Luckily I was on
hand to fix it for him. Teaching him to use the text terminal to correct
the problem himself in future is not really feasible, too much knowledge
needed.

This is a serious bug, for normal users it amounts to complete system
failure if they are neglectful and let their disk get full.

Windows XP keeps working when this happens, btw.

[Bug 35217] Re: no indication when login fails due to lack of disk space

2006-12-04 Thread chombee
I don't seem able to change the priority of this bug. I really don't
think it should be set to 'low' though. The bug can effect anyone who
fills up their disk, and leaves them completely unable to login, even to
search for help, assuming they don't know how to use text mode, which
most don't. They just better hope they can telephone a friend who knows
more about Linux than they do.

[Bug 74390] Lack of totem-rhythmbox coherence

2006-12-04 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Totem and Rhythmbox are gnome's default movie and music player, so one
would think that their interface should follow similar guidelines, in
order not to confuse the user.

When playing, Rhythmbox's play button stays pressed. Totem's, on the
other hand, turns into a pause button.

http://img476.imageshack.us/img476/4231/stownrk3.png

http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/8800/pantallazoheroess01e01hah4.png

For coherence's sake, one of both methods should be chosen as better and
applied to both apps. I'd go for RB's, and make Totem's play button look
like this when playing:

http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/1135/pantallazoheroess01e01hyy5.png

But that's just my personal opinion, of course.

[Bug 61381] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashes at login

2006-12-04 Thread Jaime Alemany
Hi all,

I had one of the problems mentioned here (slow remote login via XDMCP
with X/Cygwin, white rectangle in the upper left of the screen, the
warning message

There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.
Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work
correctly.
The last error message was:
Activation of org.gnome.SettingsDaemon timed out
GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in.

then no menus...).

After trying several ideas from here and there, I finally solved it,
after removing all IPv6 references from my local (ubuntu) hosts file
*and* disabling completely the windows firewall (unblocking XCygwin
seems not enough).

Now it logins fast and everything works perfect.

Regards,

jaime

[Bug 64301] Re: Unable to unlock screen when using ldap

2006-12-04 Thread Bavo
-rw--- 1 root root 15 2006-05-18 06:49 /etc/ldap.secret
is only useful if you are using the rootdn to connect to the ldapserver. I'm
using another dn to bind to the ldapserver. The password for this user has to
be set in the ldap.conf file.

what i have in my ldap.conf is
binddn cn=*,o=itf,c=be
bindpw **
and no rootbinddn entry

if someone can get the rootdn password for your ldap server you can get
in serious trouble, so it is not a great idea to put it somewhere on the
client computer (even when it's only readable for root)

Is it possible to reopen this bug?

Thanks for your comment. Ubuntu gets its translations from
http://launchpad.net/rosetta. This is the place where translation teams
actively work on making Ubuntu more useful in their language. If you want
to change a certain text, Rosetta is the right place for it.

[Bug 74232] Re: make panels switch places

2006-12-04 Thread Roel Huybrechts
Thanks for your report. Your idea might get more attention and have
the possibility of being implemented if you would submit a
specification for this.

You should first check whether it already exists at the Ubuntu specs
page (https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+specs) in Launchpad. If
that is the case, feel free to contact the drafter of that spec about
your comments/suggestions. Otherwise you can start writing a spec
following the steps described in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeatureSpecifications.

[Bug 35217] Re: no indication when login fails due to lack of disk space

2006-12-04 Thread Chris Wagner
Also see bug 41170. Someone will probably want to mark it as a duplicate of
this bug, but I do believe it is actually a bit different. I think the problem
that I came across, when reporting 41170, was due to GDM not being able to
write to the user's home directory:
  GDM could not write to your authorization file. This could mean that you
are out of disc space or that your home directory could not be opened for
writing. In any case, it is not possible to log in. Please contact your
administrator.
That's a more helpful method of failure than described in this bug's
description, but still not sufficient in solving the problem.
