[Bug 81792] Re: rhythmbox crashes when editing artist tag

2007-01-26 Thread Jeremy Teale
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately we can't
fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You
may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the
problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
 Thanks!

[Bug 78500] Re: gnome-control-center wipes out /home/user

2007-01-26 Thread Arnold J Noronha

I too confirm this. It affects only the current user.

Mine has been Breezy->Dapper->Edgy->Feisty upgrade, using apt-get update
+ apt-get dist-upgrade.

I think until this is fixed, it better be Control Center better be
removed from the menu :)

2007-01-26 Thread shane arsenault
Public bug reported:

ok this is going to sound stupid but i will explane it the best i can.
as we all know there are pst est cst pacific time central time and eastern
time.well i live in the state of michigan.and there are 2 timezones in
this state...there is lower michigan which is on central timethen there is
upper michigan (the upper peninsula of michigan to be exact) which is on
eastern time...becasue of this i noticed that the clocks where not able to
set right anymore on the installations i have done for peoples computers useing
ubuntu.this bug occurs even if your "synch" with time server you will most
likely get a central time no matter whatand to place the timezone in lets
say N.Y would defeat the clocks as well.

in breezy this was not an issue as the installer had a setting just for
michigan...is there a way to fix this?

[Bug 48499] hald blocks ide bus if cdrom on same bus with harddisk(was:Extremly slow IO performance with dapper, high wa% on Dell Inspiron 8200)

2007-01-26 Thread Manfred Odenstein
Public bug reported:

Hi there,
I've done a clean install on this notebook (P4/1800 756Mb) and I've noticed
that the IO system is doing something (with top) but there is not so much
activities on the harddisk, I've checked this with two different drives to
prevent wrong diagnostics (maybe harddisk error).

It seems that booting into KDE is faster with the liveCD as with the
installed system, I've also noticed that my second notebook, IBM T22
(P3/900 384Mb) is booting faster with a much slower harddisk than the
mentioned system.

It really seems that something is throttling the io system

[Bug 81787] Can't add JetDirect Printer with the Postscript Driver

Go to System->Admin->Printers in the menu
Double-Click "New Printer"
Select "Network Printer"
Select "HP JetDirect"
Enter a Host IP address
Click Next
Select "HP" as Manufacturer
Select "LaserJet 2100" as model
** THIS NEXT ONE SEEMS TO BE THE KEY
Select "Postscript" as the Driver

No printer has been added.

If you run gnome-cups-add from the command line and do the same thing,
you get an error message at the end reading:

Just before it, is:

[Bug 81573] Re: file open fails on cifs mount with directio option set

I don't think this is the same bug as #34813: this one only occurs with
directio set on the mount, and only relates to being unable to open
files. By contrast, 34813 refers to being unable to save edited files,
which _were_ able to be opened perfectly fine.

[Bug 66597] Re: EDGY nautilus crash when GNOME starts

2007-01-26 Thread Jim Robinson
I apparently experienced the same problem. After running the latest round of
upgrades I restarted my computer. Once the desktop loaded an icon appeared in
the system tray stateing that a program had crashed. I clicked the icon and it
identified nautilus as the program that crashed. I searched the bugs and found
this bug report to be exactly the same as what happened to me.
I ran the backtrace as stated above but it did not crash. It simply opened up a
nautilus window. It only crashed when the desktop loaded and there were no
nautilus windows or programs active that I was aware of, so I cannot reproduce
the crash.

I have attached my initial crash report in case it helps at all, but the
backtrace did not cause nautilus to crash.

[Bug 55582] Re: [time-admin] The time server that added the last time doesn't exist when open time and date again

2007-01-26 Thread R1dO
Same behaviour here.

It worked well under dapper and only became broken after an upgrade to
edgy.

Under dapper i was still required to enter the admin password whenever i
wanted to change time-settings using the [Time-admin], in edgy however
this is no longer required.

Therefore i suspect it has something to do with writing permissions on the
"/etc/ntp.conf" file.
(note that a manual "sudo vi /etc/ntp.conf" to add the servers does indeed work)

[Bug 81774] libgoffice-0-gtk-dev does not exist

2007-01-26 Thread Ted Cabeen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgoffice-0-dev

libgoffice-0-dev contains the include files for compiling programs based
on goffice. The goffice source packages also provide a libgoffice-gtk
variant. However, there is no libgoffice-gtk-dev package. Since
libgoffice-0-dev depends solely on libgoffice-0 and not
libgoffice-0-gtk, it can't be installed when libgoffice-0-gtk is

[Bug 81122] Re: Some media files are not recognised as such (ogm, mkv, mka)

Well, a thumbnail will be drawn over the icon, so you can't tell what it
would be...

Attaching a very small matroska audio file to this comment; Nautilus

there's no video.) It will then display a blank page icon, even though
it recognises that it is a media file (well, it knows that totem can
play it anyway.)

[Bug 81740] Re: reordering tabs disable key bindings for 1 time

2007-01-26 Thread chantra
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

On feisty, but I guess this should be reproduceable on edgy too.

  gnome-terminal-2.17.90-0ubuntu1

  How to reproduce:

  * Open Gnome terminal
  * open new tab (Ctrl+Shift+T)
  * (so far, you can move from one tab to the prev/next ones using Ctrl+page
Up/Down)
  * Drag the 2nd tab and drop it to the first place
  * (now, you cannot go back and forth using keybindings)
  * click the other tab, keybindings works again.
+
+ By the way, this only happens if the tab is moved using the mouse.
+ Moving a tab with Ctrl-Shift-Page Up/Down will behave correctly

[Bug 67152] Re: [network-admin] WEP doesn't work when setting key using network-admin

2007-01-26 Thread Stephen G
> Stephen, what version of Ubuntu do you use?

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS
Release:6.06
Codename: dapper

desktop-i386

Hardware: HP Pavilion zx5078cl

$ lspci |grep Broadcom
:02:02.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g
Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03)

Now that the write to /etc/network/interfaces is working for Andreas the
remaining problem is that the iwconfig still needs to be run, or system
rebooted, which is what I also reported in #80499. Should #80499 be
marked as a duplicate of this bug, or vice-versa?

Totem/edgy displays this error for just about any error in DVD playback,
including files that don't exist (play dvd://idontexist) and read
errors reported by the DVD drive.

[Bug 80342] File manager hangs when creating properies for asf file

2007-01-26 Thread Mr Canis
Public bug reported:

Hello,
if I try to show the property dialogue for a asf file, produced with my
camcorder, in the file
manager then only a dialogue with the message "Creating the properties..." or
something
like that appears. I can cancel this operation but if I want reload the content
of the file manager window than nothing happens only the rotating circle stands
there and if I go
one level up and then in the previous directory, the same behaviour, only the
rotating
circle. The only solution is, completely log out and log in again.

With mplayer there are no problems, only with nautilus and totem.

http://localhost:631/printers/ under "hp_par_DESKJET_670C (Default
Printer)": "/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed". If I restart
Abiword, I can print again, once.

I have installed HP Deskjet 670C printer by CUPS' web interface.
(Make and Model: HP DeskJet 670C Foomatic/hpijs (recommended) - HPLIP 0.9.7)

I am using Ubuntu lite on Ubuntu server 6.06.1
Abiword version is 2.4.4

(Printing a pdf file using lpr command on terminal works fine even if
repeated.)

[Bug 80229] more mime-type icons in default theme

2007-01-26 Thread clubfan
Public bug reported:

The default icon theme installed with Edgy does not seem to have appropriate
mime type icons for
- executables
- scripts
- (shared) libraries
- source files (c, c++, whatever all look like text files)

While this does not seem to be very major for normal desktop use, those
files types look very ugly in developer applications like anjuta. We use
these icons for example to represent automake target types and it's not
very nice if executables, scripts and libraries all share the same white
icon.

[Bug 67152] Re: [network-admin] WEP doesn't work when setting key using network-admin

2007-01-26 Thread Andreas Gustafsson
> Andreas, do you use "cancel"?

Yes, I believe I did press "cancel" in the Network Settings
window in each of my previous attempts, because I just
tried again, pressing OK this time, and now the file
/etc/networking/interfaces did in fact get written to,
for the first time since the system was installed (I verified
that before I pressed OK it still had a timestamp of the
day the system was installed). After I pressed the OK
key, there was a lengthy delay before the Network Settings
window disappeared, on the order of 60 seconds.

However, despite /etc/networking/interfaces now
containing the correct WEP key, the wireless interface
remained non-functional. As before, setting the WEP
key manually using iwconfig fixed it. Unlike before,
the interface now worked after rebooting the machine.

In other words, I am seeing the same behavior reported
by Stephen G.

The issue of Cancel vs OK does not change the fact that
there is a bug: even though choosing OK rather than Cancel
means the interface works after a reboot, it still does not
work until rebooting, and it should.

Also, the fact that you can make it work without a
reboot by manually setting the key using iwconfig
even though "iwconfig ath0" already displays the correct
key is just bizarre. To me that suggests that there
may be a kernel or driver bug causing the interface
state displayed by iwconfig to become inconsistent
with that actually used by the hardware.

I guess you are right about the duplicate bug report. Sorry about that.
My password contained the characters ø and å. This worked fine when
updating though.

I'm far from a linux expert. But I found out from the language support
that my default language is 'English (Australia)'. No other languages
is installed.

I think the Ubuntu installation also overwrote my MBR so i'm actually stuck in

know how to do), but that's a separate issue.

We just switch back to Sans Serif recently in kubuntu, for using
Dejavu Sans, CJK chareacters can not be displayed correctly, I don't

[Bug 81680] Should not prompt for timezone at first startup

2007-01-26 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution prompts for timezone at its first startup, but, expecially
right after ubuntu installation, this is not a good idea, since users
have _just entered_ this information and in 99% of the cases there will
be no need to change this information for a single program (an option
should be provided per-user in the gnome preferences instead - if really
necessary since one can change that in the clock configuration).
