[Bug 88871] [apport] killed evolution because it had locked the mouse cursor

2007-03-01 Thread Robert Collins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I did the following:
 - moved a message from INBOX to an imap folder
 - while that finished I was dragging another message to the same folder
 - evolution got confused - when I released the mouse button, it did not drop
the second message, and it wouldn't release the mouse so I could use it in
other apps.
 - I logged in over ssh and did killall evolution

[Bug 88514] Re: [Feisty] rhythmbox fails to play a track after a jump to the beginning of the track

2007-03-01 Thread quinnman
Rhythmbox ver. 0.9.8-0ubuntu2. After a deeper investigation it seems to be
badly broken. There are problems even in rhythmbox UI. It behaves strangely
(both with the panel icon and UI) sometimes it works correctly, sometimes
playing the song is resumed after a few seconds and sometimes it doesn't work
at all.
Running rhythmbox from console didn't reveal any errors but by running it with
parameter -d I recorded some suspicious behavior. I enclose to screenshots
showing the rhythmbox activity.

[Bug 88874] Can't edit anything in alacarte

2007-03-01 Thread Anders Olsson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alacarte

I can't seem to edit anything in alacarte any more. There's no crashing
or freezing, no output in the console except

/var/lib/python-support/python2.4/gtk-2.0/bonobo/__init__.py:
inconsistent use of tabs and spaces in indentation

If I try to tick one of the items nothing happens, if I press an arrow
to reorder nothing happens. If I try to create a new item the dialog
pops and I can enter all values and press ok but there's no change. I
used to be able use alacarte, don't know what's changed.

The symptoms are similar to bug 66705 but the cause is not the same, my
~/.locals is owned by me.

[Bug 71345] Re: GTK applications crash sometime with gdk_events functions to the backtrace

2007-03-01 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The synaptic bug might be a different problem. To attach a light crash
file you can install libglib2.0-0-dbg libgtk2.0-0-dbg synaptic-dbgsym
and run apport-retrace -c file.crash, it'll update it with a debug
backtrace and drop the dump

[Bug 88548] Re: scrolling broken during output

2007-03-01 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Upstream comment on the bug:

The essence of this is that whilst you are looking into the history the output
continues into the future (the scrollbar slider moving rapidly upto the top).

Once you are looking at a screenful of data that is no longer in the scrollback
history then you hit bug 160127.

So I believe this should be classified as a dupe of 160127 as the first portion
is correct behaviour. Agreed?

the bug fixed faster. We acknowledge that's a problem and should be
fixed, the thing is that there is over a thousand desktop bugs open at
the moment and few people working on them and we can't work on
everything at the same time. The versions are still being updated and
feisty is not stable yet and we will fix lot of bugs before that. What
would be useful is somebody trying to debug that to help the desktop
team which has lot to do already

Replacing a program or reverting it to the previous version to avoid
fixing a bug is not really constructive behaviour neither. What about
trying to fix the bug rather than replacing it by an another program
which has got not as much testing. It has dnd working, it might also
have bugs than file-roller doesn't have.

My problem was gnome-settings-daemon crashes at NXSERVER login, it is very
similar/linked to generic gnome-settings-daemon crashes at login.

Seems that several replies have been provided, read carefully all the

The hosts removal of ipv6 lines solution does not work for me and several
other people, the ESD one works very well !

Cheers

[Bug 88015] Re: shutdown window freezes everytime

2007-03-01 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
I'm not totally convinced. Yes, Xorg shouldn't freeze in general, but
the shutdown dialog does (and is supposed to) take control over the
entire display. If that freezes somehow but doesn't crash, Xorg really
has no way of knowing.

As far as I can tell, X _doesn't_ freeze, it continues to work in the
background, but the display it taken up by the unresponsive shutdown
dialog. I don't really know how else could X react to this. As far as
xorg knows, the app may be some sort of screen lock.

I don't know who's responsible for the shutdown window. While I agree
that some of the opened affects won't be related, I'm just trying to
find them, and I expect gnome-desktop to know something about that
shutdown dialog. It's a desktop feature, isn't it?

Even if it's not a bug in the shutdown dialog, I really need to find
someone who works on it, because they're the only ones who can find out
what's wrong.

Thanks for your bug report. Do you have a standard way of reproducing
the problem. Which video driver do you use. Do you use accessibility
features? Do you use compiz/beryl?

[Bug 39856] Re: Panel in middle of the screen after reboot when not full-sized

2007-03-01 Thread djanderson
This is a pretty serious bug because you can't drag the bar back down
with your mouse, you have to recheck the expand option. Isn't that
really confusing for new users?

I'm using feisty with all updates applied. My panel version is:
$ gnome-panel --version
GNOME gnome-panel 2.17.92

I have the exact same problem as mentioned above. My resolution is set
correctly (1400x1050 IBM T43 with Radion M300 running OS driver) in both
gnome's resolution application and in xorg.conf, which I haven't
modified (except to add middle mouse scroll or something).

I really hope this gets squashed before release time... it's a biggun...

[Bug 88463] Re: build with --disable-gnome

2007-03-01 Thread Jani Monoses
If it is needed the change can be reverted, it's a simple line in
debian/rules.

The pros and cons of having duplicated gnome-system-tools/xubuntu-
system-tools source packages in main vs. having bug buddy integration in
g-s-t need to be evaluated.

Carlos, do you know approximately what percentage of g-s-t bugs were
reported via bug-buddy?

As for custom GNOME LiveCD, rebuilding g-s-t with --enable-gnome is easy
to do, compared to other changes they are likely to make to the Ubuntu
CD.

[Bug 88874] Re: Can't edit anything in alacarte

2007-03-01 Thread Anders Olsson
I can't reproduce that message, maybe because that module is already
loaded somewhere when I start alacarte again? Anyway, this is what I get
when checking that file:

~$ python -tt /var/lib/python-support/python2.4/gtk-2.0/bonobo/__init__.py
  File /var/lib/python-support/python2.4/gtk-2.0/bonobo/__init__.py, line 17
self.__bobj.connect(destroy, self.__destroy)

TabError: inconsistent use of tabs and spaces in indentation

I use alacarte 0.10.1 and Edgy. I don't know what package this file is
part of? I have version 0.5.3ubuntu1 of python-support.
