[Bug 137203] Re: search adds slash to escaped strings
I’m confused or my report was poorly written. I search for \nTest which has an escaped character which means new line. That's totally fine for me and that is not what my bug is about. The bug I am reporting is that i search for \nTest which is matched or not. Everything is fine. Then if I want to search for another occurance of \nTest and I reopen the search dialog, the search string has been escaped and thus doesn’t return the wanted result. Original search string = \nTest Second search string = \\nTest This is deeply wrong as it renders the memory of the search dialog useless since it is corrupted. -- search adds slash to escaped strings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137203 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Sorry for the spam but this might make it even clearer: What happens to the search string in the search dialog as it is reopend (1st time, 2nd, etc.) : 1st \n 2nd \\n 3rd \\\n 4th n 5th \n etc. I seriously doubt this is the same bug. -- search adds slash to escaped strings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137203 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 137203] Re: search adds slash to escaped strings
Arg, sorry again. My example is wrong. [Bug 136234] Re: Nautilus chokes on file named 'forEd'
I spent some time poking around with this problem. Creating empty files named things like forEd, firEd, forMe, forYou all created the freeze. So, on the theory that I might have a munged directory, I copied the entire directory elsewhere. In the new copy, I could duplicate the error. Ok, so that made me start looking at various other things inside the directory. I have a file which was named lcareport.sh but which was actually a Perl script (first line #!/usr/bin/perl -w) rather than bash. This particular file also had (in the original directory) an Important icon attached to it. In the duplicate directory, no icon was attached. When I attached the Important icon, Nautilus froze. So, I renamed the file to just lcareport. This seems to have corrected the problem. for... files can be created at will and the renamed file can have an important icon attached, all without causing a freeze. SO, Nautilus seems to have been paying overmuch attention to a .sh file type. [Bug 135228] Re: GNOME session freezes to black screen, Failsafe GNOME session works fine
I had the idea that I was describing this bug as clearly as possible to get it fixed as a consequence, and that getting it fixed would help me getting my system working again. To be clear, I certainly was trying to write a bugreport, not a help request. Writing a good bugreport was my intention, and if the bug could be fixed and I'd have a correctly functioning system again that would be a good thing, but not the goal of this bugreport. Are you implying that I did not describe the bug properly (not clearly enough, as you emphasized)? Besides that, you still haven't explained why you don't accept this bugreport. Could you please tell me why this is not a valid bug? Is my description not correct or is information missing? Is the bug fixed already, is it a duplicate? I believe that I have described the steps necessary to reproduce the bug, described the effects of the bug, and that the effects of the bug are not normal behavior. Re: [Bug 136608] Re: [gusty Tribe5]Totem wrong subtitles synchronization
[Does it happen with any movie?] Yes: DVD, and *.avi (XviD and Divix as well). I haven't tested other formats. To make clear: I have installed on Gusty Gibbon Tribe 5 the following Totem libraries (all 2.19.90-0 ubuntu3): 1. libtotem-plparser7 Totem Playlist Parser library - runtime version; 2. totem A simple media player for the Gnome desktop (dummy package) 3. totem-gstreamer A simple media player for the Gnome desktop based on gstreamer 4. totem-mozilla Totem Mozilla plugin [Do you get the issue using totem-xine?] When I installed totem-xine to test it for You and tried to open a movie the warning appeared: Totem could not play 'file:/// (a full path to the movie with title)'. Video codec XviD is not handled. You might need to install additional plugins to be able to play some types of movies Totem could not play 'file:///(a full path to the movie with title)'. Video codec'Microsoft MPEG-4 v3' is not handled. You might need to install additional plugins to be able to play some types of movies. Totem could not play 'dvd:/'. There is no plugin to handle this movie. And so on. [Do you have an url where we could download an example of video triggering the bug?] You can download any *.avi movie for example from a Polish torrent site (there are often proper subtitles attached). If there is no subtitles attached with the movie You can look for Polish or other Slavic/Central European encoded subtitles in the Internet. If You have any trouble with finding subtitles, please give me a title of movie with all comments attached (for example: XviD-Junky7SEED-team) and I'll try to find appropriate subtitles for You. BTW: I've discovered a few other bugs when it comes to subtitles in Totem: 1. Totem doesn't load (recognize) the text files with the subtitles when names of the *.avi file and the *.txt file are different. (SMPlayer doesn't as well but in SMPlayer you can add subtitle manually. In Totem manual selection of the subtitle file fails. It doesn't recognize the subtitle file via subtitles menu. You can add it to playlist but if you drag and drop it onto screen the warning appears: An error occurred. GstPlayBin: Only a subtitle stream was detected. Either you are loading a subtitle file or some other type of text file, or the media file was not recognized. 2. When in the same folder are: *.avi file, *.txt file and *.sub file Totem doesn't load ANY file with the subtitles despite the movie is played (SMPlayer plays a movie with subtitles in such situations). 3. I was trying to play a DVD movie x(title) via Totem/Movie/Play Disc x, but I didn't succeed. (Totem cannot play this type of media (DVD) because you do not have the appropriate plugins to handle it. Please install the necessary plugins and restart Totem to be able to play this media.) I must admit that if you just put a DVD movie into your DVD - rom it is played automatically with Totem. There are at least 4 additional bugs taking into consideration the bug with installing Totem-xine mentioned above. I don't really know which of the bugs are caused by Totem itself and which are typical for this alpha release of Ubuntu Gusty. The three bugs were discovered before installing totem-xine. Could You be so kind and put the mentioned bugs in the right place to be found by Developers as they could fix them before final version of the Totem (GNOME) and the Ubuntu projects are out? [Bug 26338] Re: Adding a user to a group modifies other users' groups and passwords
Hi I just installed Xubuntu 7.04 onto an old-ish laptop (that was previously running an old release of slackware linux). The initial install wasn't too painful (aside from problems with the disk partitioner returning failure codes numerously, and the fact that the GUI network configurator didn't seem to accomodate ad-hoc WLAN setup which meant me manually poking at the /etc/network/interfaces file)... However, I too have just experienced the problem met by various other people in this thread. After the full initial installation, my first port of call was to add a new 'basic' user so that my family could do basic login and have access to web-browsing etc... so.. i used the GUI tool, went in and selected the add user option, filled out the details of the user then 'OK'd' everything. once i'd done this, i logged out of xfce and then tried to login as the newly created user... i was met with an error trying to log in saying that the account could not be validated.. so i then logged in as my 'initial installation' user account to try see what was going on. After logging in as the initial user.. i tried to run the GUI user accounts tool again.. it prompted me for the administrative password to access the utility.. i put in my usual password and was then met with an error saying that i was not allowed to run this utility... to my horror i subsequently discovered that i could not 'sudo' at all with this account... what seemed to be particularly drastic is that for some reason I noticed that files in the /etc folder that would normally be root/root (i.e. user/group of root) now seemed to have the ownership of (root/newuser) where newuser was the uid of the account i had just tried to add (which did not get added correctly) with the GUI tool as a stop-gap i have booted the live cd and i added my initial login to the sudoers file as an 'ALL=(ALL) ALL' entry.. so i could actually be productive again, and i once again ran the GUI user/group maintenance tool.. upon going in here this time i observed that indeed a new group had been added for the account i tried to set up... trying to remove this made the tool complain that it was an administrator group, therefore i can only imagine that it had relabelled the root group?? i renamed this new group back to 'root' and i tried to add the user once again with the tool and this time it seemed to add the user. since ubuntu seems 'weird' in its use of the root account and my unfamiliarity with ubuntu, are the files that are retained for administrator access (which are normally root/root on other linux distros) also meant to be root/root in ubuntu? or is the group for these meant to be something else? p.s. i'm still not sure if this stuff has caused any other havoc at all... but to say such a fundamental tool can screw up so badly is a pretty poor show really.. since i'm not a linux expert i've no idea to what extent it has screwed stuff up and how it may have compromised my system security. Its not something i plan to spend major amounts of time on as the install was simply to be put on a laptop to allow my family access to internet etc through WLAN... once that is setup i dont plan on touching it much for a while.. i'd like to know how this could be so defective though... -- Adding a user to a group modifies other users' groups and passwords https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/26338 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
