[Bug 117873] Re: gnome-terminal doesn't remember size or location

2007-09-26 Thread neurophyre
There should be an option in preferences to specify a preferred startup
size. Asking the end user to dig through configuration editor or
similar programs to edit this is contrary to the goal of ease of use.

[Bug 145104] no easy way to define startup window size in gnome-terminal

2007-09-26 Thread neurophyre
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Nowhere in the profile editor is there a place to set the default size
of a gnome-terminal window to something other than 80x24. This is
unacceptable for an application bundled with the basic install of
Ubuntu, and telling the end user to dig through and try to figure out
where to set the command line option for geometry is NOT an acceptable
response.

See http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-255048.html and bug
#117873.

[Bug 145121] gnome window manager incorrect window size (too large for screen)

2007-09-26 Thread Andrew Frank
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

i have an unusual portrait screen (1024 x 768) and i have one of the
panels to the left. this makes my screen abut 730 wide and 1000 high.

i see now numerous applicatoins opening windows which are just a little
bit too large, such that the scroll bars and the close button is just
outside. it is then necessary to move the window before one can scroll.
very anyoing bug.

i run gutsy - updated today.

(the bug was reported originally for problems with evolution, but i
realize that the same difficulty with managing windows appears in
several programs. in evolution (but also in others) it is aggravated by
the fact that subwindows cannot be made smaller beyond a point, thus
often ending with windows that are generally too large to show).

please fix soon!

[Bug 145127] Evolution: copy-paste doesn't work smoothly inside 'to' and 'cc' fields while composing an email

2007-09-26 Thread Amit Tendulkar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Steps to reproduce,
- Start evolution
- Compose email
- Put some contact name that is auto-completed in the 'to' field
- Put another contact name that is auto-completed in the 'cc' field
- Now cut the address in the 'to' field by selecting the name (through keyboard
with shift+arrow keys) and doing Ctrl-x
- Press to bring focus to the 'cc' field
- Notice that if the cursor in the 'cc' field is at the beginning of the
already entered contact name (this can be achieved with the Home key) and if
you paste earlier cut contact name at that location, then the contact name is
pasted, but both the names lose their special meaning (i.e. they are no longer
underlined and are merely two name strings without email addresses associated
with them).
- Instead if you press end key in the 'cc' field and then press Ctrl-v (after
then comma) then the cut contact name is pasted appropriately (with email
address and all).

The above behavior is observed even when the contact name is cut
including a trailing comma.

the fact that there is no way to specify window size in the profiles.

[Bug 144355] Re: Incorrect Math in version 5.9.14

2007-09-26 Thread Parthan
I think the behavior of taking 6% as 6/100 is correct to keep things
simple, when you do not give a % of something, it is interpreted as % of
1. This is the reason for 1360 - 6% giving the answer of 1359.94. The
argument can be that the calculator must apply the % of the number
before it, i.e. 1360.

But this can become a bit tricky when it is a part of a complex
calculation like 150 + 240 - 10% + 300 - 10%. So, as per the bug the
expected behavior is..

150 + 240 + 10% of (150 + 240) + 300 - 10% of (150 + 240 + 10% of (150 +
240) + 300).

This shows that how tricky it might become that the calculator needs to
be extra intelligent. Presuming it to be a simple calculator providing
basic mathematical functions, interpretation of 6% as 6/100 = .06 is not
a bug.

[Bug 144952] Re: [gutsy] some human-icons in gnome-panel look very blurry

2007-09-26 Thread Sebastien Bacher
That's not really a bug of the panel or the theme. The gnome-panel
expects 22x22 icons nowadays or the Human icons are still 24x24 so it
does some scaling. The way to wokraorund that is to have the GTK theme
specify that the panel should use 24x24 icons, ubuntulooks does that. It
has the side effect to create blurry icons if you use an 22x22 icon
theme though. Closing the bug, that's not really one and has already
been mentionned, ideally the panel should deal with the situation

[Bug 145172] can't extract splitted 7zip

2007-09-26 Thread MurDoK
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

Hi.

I have an iso image splitted in 42 7zip files.
They are like:
MyIsoImage.7z.001
MyIsoImage.7z.002
MyIsoImage.7z.003
MyIsoImage.7z.004
[...]
MyIsoImage.7z.042

Mainly file-roller doesn't detect it's a 7zip file (while 'file' command does
with the first part (.001))
Once it's not detected as compressed file, I tried to force opening it with
file-roller but now file-roller says that the format is not supported.

I can uncompress it perfectly using 7z:

**
$ 7z e MyIsoImage.7z.001

7-Zip 4.43 beta Copyright (c) 1999-2006 Igor Pavlov 2006-09-15
p7zip Version 4.43 (locale=es_ES.UTF-8,Utf16=on,HugeFiles=on,1 CPU)

Processing archive: MyIsoImage.7z.001

Extracting MyIsoImage.cdi

Everything is Ok

2007-09-26 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I have been running Gutsy's evolution for about 3 weeks, and have not
seen this problem anymore. It used to happen at least daily on dapper.
This is the same machine and email that had the problems before.
Upgraded to from dapper, to edgy, to feisty to gutsy. Now it works
fine. I'll report back if the problem crops up again.

This may be related to or the same as

that I installed the xserver-xorg-video-ati_6.7.194-1ubuntu1tv_i386.deb

font rendering problems.

I also have some comments in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source

[Bug 145212] Thumbnails on desktop not showing

2007-09-26 Thread mannheim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I am using gutsy. I have four image files on my desktop (jpeg and png).
Sometimes Nautilus shows these as thumbnails, as it should. Sometimes
they revert to the icon which usually means "thumbnail generation in
progress" -- i.e. a document icon with an orange "timer" in the bottom
corner.

If I do not click on the icon, the thumbnail will not return: the icons
remain as the "in progress" icons indefinitely. In standard Nautilus
folder windows, this is not a problem: although fetching the thumbnails
is sometimes slow, they always arrive. The problem seems to be specific
to the display of the desktop.

Even when the thumbnails are displayed for image files on the desktop,
they sometimes revert to the "in progress" icon; and I don't know what
triggers this.
