[Bug 26419] Re: gnome-session hangs when lo is not correctly configured

2007-09-28 Thread Nicolas Stouff
Same problem, or at least, it seems so.
Clicking in System - Quit works well, but the fast-quit applet does not bring
the shutdown window, instead, only panels and desktop freezes, but my keyboard
and mouse are still active.

My loopback is properly configured.
Only changes in Gnome-Panel Config: removed fast-user-switch applet, added
tomboy and OOo quickstart, remove NetworkManager...

Tht's all!

Oz.org is wrongly called OzNet.

OzNet connects to sydney.oz.org and melbourne.oz.org which don't exist.

The correct servers are as below taken from www.oz.org

# germany.oz.org - Overseas clients can use this server.
# sandiego.oz.org - Overseas clients can use this server.
# us.oz.org - germany and sandiego.oz.org
# irc.oz.org - servers anyone can use - at this point it's the same as us.oz.org

[Bug 47183] Re: Incorrect resolution even after changing desktop resolution

2007-09-28 Thread unggnu
Johnathon problem has something to do with wrong resolution given through i810
driver. If this driver is used xrandr provided the correct resolution but
1368x768 too (http://launchpadlibrarian.net/6931687/xrandr.txt) and it seems
that gnome screen resolution uses the highest possible resolution.
This has been fixed with change to new Intel driver in Gutsy but it seems that
this results in another detection change (since Breezy 1366x768 was
automatically detected and saved to xorg.conf).
Btw. my dccprobe (http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9539672/ddcprobe) seems to be

[Bug 146412] gnome-screensaver-dialog never shows up

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

After upgrading to Gutsy, the unlock dialog for gnome-screensaver has
stopped working. After moving the mouse/touchpad or pressing a key the
screen stays blank and just the mouse cursor shows up.

There seems to be something strange going on with gnome-screensaver-
dialog, since it starts doing something hard drive intensive and eating
up resources.

Any pointers to what might be causing this and possible ways to debug
the problem are appreciated. I'm currently not running -dbg versions of

[Bug 146332] Re: bug-buddy crashes java applications (i.e. eclipse)

2007-09-28 Thread hexion
Hi.
I had to uninstall it today because I need eclipse for my project and it's the
only workaround that works.
Till today I was using up-to-dated gutsy version (2.18.1-2ubuntu1).

As I read, java vm is hiding its bugs by catching their own segfaults. Bug
buddy also catches them and thus make eclipse crash.
So what they did to solve is just catching the applications that don't catch
the signals themselves.

I suffered from crashes many times a day while changing from an opened file to
another (not the bug of libgtk2.0, that was due to the tooltips).
After uninstalling bug-buddy there's no more crashes (till now).

If I can help in any other way, make me know.
Regards.

[Bug 146481] Rhythmbox notifications clip long text

2007-09-28 Thread will_in_wi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

On a song change, rhythmbox shows a bubble with the artist, album, track
title, and album art. When this combines to make a long sring, the
bottom gets clipped. See attached screenshot for an example. The bubble
should be taller to compensate for the text. It would be better if the
album art would also resize when the bubble is bigger.

I had the same problem. A workaround that worked for me is that I
removed my old account from another admin account without removing my

(it was 1000, I changed it to 1010).

[Bug 140892] Usplash appears to break suspend/hibernate

2007-09-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When using Usplash on Ubuntu Feisty (Lenovo 3000 N100), Usplash works
well but it breaks suspend and hibernate. When I uninstall Usplash,
suspend and hibernate work fine.

When Usplash is installed and I suspend or hibernate, the machine goes
into suspend/hibernate but when it wakes, GDM appears to hang. I can't
change to console mode and have to hard reboot using the power switch.

This is similar to previous bugs reported but also occurs when coming
out of suspend, not just hibernate.

If there are logs I can include, please let me know which ones you want.

2. burn a file with nautilus-cd-burner with the name

3. Insert the disc in a WinXp maschine - the last character is truncated. so
it's shows as aaa[...]aaa.tx

After I upgraded my ubuntu to 7.10 beta, I found that the Wine folder
disappeared and the shortcuts inside were found in the Others folder.
Because the programs were already removed, I opened menu editor to clean

[Bug 129029] Re: [Gutsy Tribe-5] No Sound on Login Screen or during Login

2007-09-28 Thread knarf
Same but different here on Gutsy beta (updated from feisty using update-

them using System-Preferences-Sound-System Sounds (the test button
does not produce any sound) but no problems with sounds in applications.
Pulseaudio (which I had to manually install by the way...) works OK,
applications use it, sound does not skip (had to add myself to the
pulse-rt group first...) but no login/logout/ready sounds...

[Bug 146543] can only really have one row in workspace switcher

2007-09-28 Thread David Tansey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Though the workspace switcher in the bottom right corner allows you to
have multiple rows (Show all workspaces in: X rows), only one row is
used. I have four workspaces and wanted to show them in two rows. All
that happens is that the workspace icons/previews in the switcher become
half as tall and the bottom is left empty. They are still all side-by-
side.

I am using the Normal desktop/compiz effects.
I upgraded from feisty, so that might be a consideration. It certainly explains
why I have four workspaces, since the switcher, at least in normal mode
doesn't allow you to select how many workspaces you'd like, only if it should
show the current workspace or all of them in multiple rows.

When I go back to using no visual effects, I am able to select how many
workspaces I'd like and change the workspaces names (and choose whether
to show those names in the switcher.) So it seems clear the problem is
related to the visual effects, unless the config from feisty somehow
messes up the tool's preferences when visual effects are used.

[Bug 146305] Re: Icon on the desktop

2007-09-28 Thread Francouf
gedit seems to be the problem :
Made some tests.
Change the icon of an odt file on the desktop, modify the file with OpenOffice.
No problem.
Change the icon of a jpg file on the desktop, modify the file with Gimp. No
problem.
Change the icon of a txt file on the desktop, modify the file with nano. No
problem.
Change the icon of a txt and html file on the desktop, modify the files with
gedit. Icons become standard during ou just after the saving process.
The same things happen in any directory.
We got you gedit, surrender ...
What happened to gedit between Edgy and Feisty (still here in Gutsy)

[Bug 113377] Re: no drop-down list for online dictionary Ubuntu 7-04

2007-09-28 Thread Munchkinguy
The issue is this: gnome-dictionary looks up definitions on dict.org,
which has many dictionary databases. However, gnome-dictionary doesn't
allow the user to specify which database to search, so all of the
results are displayed. This can be very frustrating.

For example, if you look up the word Food, the first database entry
given is To supply with food, which is clearly an obsolete usage.
Scrolling down, one only finds the definitions from the Dictionary of
Collaborative English, which is unnecessarily wordy and is basically a
transcription of Webster 1913. The WordNet definition - which is also
available from dict.org - is nowhere to be found.

gnome-dictionary tantalizingly supplies a list of Available Databases
and Available Strategies, but does not supply any method for selecting
either of them to filter the search results, leaving the user to either:
a. Weep in despair, or b. Be shackled to the Dictionary of
Collaborative English.

[Bug 146543] Re: can only really have one row in workspace switcher

2007-09-28 Thread David Portwood
I think this is due to you using the desktop effects, as they treat individual
workspaces as one workspace to gnome.
Gnome providing the workspace switcher, not compiz. Does this behavior
continue when you disable desktop effects?
Thanks,
David P.

[Bug 12154] Re: Nautilus should have a superuser mode

2007-09-28 Thread Wladston Viana
Another idea is, when the user tries to write to protected folders, it
says something like :

This(these) is(are) system folder(s or files), and it(they) has(have)
been protected to ensure that your computer will operate safely. Do you
wish to write to this folder anyways ?

[Cancel]
[Yes (field for administration password)]

Another option would be do you wish to temporarily disable this protection ?
 - so the user can execute several operations on protected folders.

[Bug 54813] X server failure dialogue garbled (UTF-8 problem)

2007-09-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

 affects /distros/ubuntu/xserver-xorg

NOTE: This bug report is about the fact that the dialogue about the
server failure is garbled.

When the system starts up, the X server starts and briefly shows a
garbled display: it looks like there is a mismatch between the display
data in the video memory and the video mode, so that there is a kind
of horizontally stripy garbled image in part of the screen.

Then shortly afterwards the X server terminates again and I go back
into text mode and get a dialogue box offering me various logfiles;
this dialogue box is itself semi-garbled:

The textual components are legible. But the dialogue border is
displayed as a sequence of bizarre accented characters. For example,
the box saying `The X server is now disabled ...' has, on the top
edge,
   U' o i^ ( U' o C, )x26 U' o e'
where U' is U-with-acute-accent, o is o-with-umlaut, C, is
C-with-cedille, etc. This string is longer than the 80-column width
and causes cursor positioning errors.

This particular install is a clean dapper install from the released
i386 d-i CD, upgraded to edgy by editing sources.list and updated
every few days. Everything is up to date except that apt has held
back a bunch of python packages. I have to install with
debian-installer/framebuffer=false to avoid an incompatibility between
the framebuffer driver and my hardware.
