2007-09-30 Thread Nanley Chery
I've got the same problem. I just installed the Beta, installed all
updates, then installed the nvidia driver. I restarted (the monitor
strangely flickered 3+ times) and voila -- no bottom panel until I click
the desktop.

When the source package is published, to be precise. I. e. during a
freeze the bug will not be marked as fixreleased until the RM actually
accepts the uploaded package.

2007-09-30 Thread Sarah Hobbs
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

This all depends on the definition of fix released - mine tends to be
"in the ubuntu archive", which includes anything between when it is
ACCEPTED (and hits gutsy-changes), and is actually published, and in the
archive.

We (who are not archive admins) can't actually push the bugs any further
than this - we have to wait for soyuz, etc, to sort itself out. So for
all intents and purposes, i'd say that this should be marked Fix
Released, yes.

Also, the bug closing by changelog comes in somewhere - i think when the
package itself is accepted - where it is automatically marked as fix
released.

[Bug 147506] Gutsy: Autocomplete fails for multiple addressees

2007-09-30 Thread Joe Blaylock
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I'm running Gutsy, and I dist-upgraded at 23:30EST on 30Sep07.

It appears that Evolution isn't properly autocompleting when I want to
address mail To: or Cc: multiple users. For example:

I open Evolution. It starts up on the email panel.
I hit 'New' and a message compose box pops up.
In the To: line, I type a name, "Brol" and hit Tab to accept the suggested
autocomplete (for my brother) and move on to the Cc: field. But Oops! I
wanted it to be To: my mother, also. So I click back on the To: line to the
right of the comma. I type "Mom", but nothing happens. She's not being
autocompleted properly.

In fact, if I empty out the To: line and start over again, it will no
longer autocomplete anyone in my address book.

[Bug 86426] Re: MASTER: [Feisty] Evolution always tries to print A4

2007-09-30 Thread hggdh
Yes, it is in Feisty, but the fix for the A4 (and other) printing issues
has also changed gtkhtml3.14. So, simply backporting Evolution will not
do the trick: we also need to backport gtkhtml3.14.

On the other hand,... it seems gtkhtml3.14 is only used by Evo, so this
would be a no-brainer. The real problem is checking if the Evo fix can
be backported to 2.10.

[Bug 22930] Re: Newly-sensitive button ignores clicks until cursor re-enters it

2007-09-30 Thread nullack
Looks as though this bug has been around since 2001. Sadly it retains an
upstream priority of normal which ignores the very serious impact it has
on Ubuntu first impressions and greatly highlights one of the problems
with FOSS.

Given what has been a very poor track record on this bug why doesnt
Canonical do a workaround for this bug so the installer atleast is not
effected. I noticed the following in the upstream bug discussion:

"For what it's worth, developers can work around this bug by simply
hiding/showing the button after they make the button sensitive again.
This will too fast for the user to see, and it will allow them to click
the button without moving their mouse from the button."

I have a workaround for this bug for the time being!

Go into CompizConfig Settings Manager, enable the Window Rules plug-in,
and put "type=desktop" under "Sticky" and "Below". Once you do that,
Compiz should be working again.

[Bug 86426] Re: MASTER: [Feisty] Evolution always tries to print A4

2007-09-30 Thread hggdh
@NoOp: this indeed seems fixed on Gutsy (Evo 2.12.0/E-D-S 1.12.0). Also,
backporting this fix to Feisty will require backporting GtkHTML3.14 as
well, and this is a rewrite of the printing code on Evo... rather
extensive change. Unfortunately, I do not have the time I would need to
look at the backporting right now (and indeed had to throttle down my
involvement with Ubuntu... pity...). But you can request a backport:
file a new bug asking for it (see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BackportRequestProcess?highlight=%28backport%29
for details).

@all: I originally asked that this bug be kept on "Fix Committed" --
upstream had asked comments on the changes. But, given that I have seen
no problems reported against the fix, I am now setting it as "Fix
Released". Of course, this bug can be reopened if we find it did not fix
printing on Evo.

these two are related?

[Bug 27109] Re: nautilus uses 100% cpu after closing a ssh session

2007-09-30 Thread knarf
On my Gutsyfied (from Feisty to Gutsy beta) Thinkpad T23 Nautilus goes
to 100% CPU when the Gnome session is terminated. Best way to see this
is to switch user from A to B, terminate user B's session and go back to
A. The CPU is pegged with user B's dying Nautilus.

Possibly related: I quite often have to shoot down bonobo-activation-
server to get Nautilus to start after having logged in and out once
without a reboot.

Terminating Nautilus (using nautilus -q) also leads to the dying
nautilus hogging the CPU, all the while spewing dire '0x8177880
2007/09/30 23:26:54.2265 (USER): debug log dumped due to signal 11'
warnings into nautilus-debug-log.txt at a rate of app. 7000 messages per
second. After killing the morbid nautilus the CPU gets pegged by tracker
which insists on indexing this logfile (easily remedied by deleting the
offending log file but still...)

I'm sure this is a matter of poorly edited config files.

When Ubuntu dropped Enlightenment Sound there were lots of holes left
over and this is one of them.

Has the GDM sound been fixed yet? That should be an easy fix since the
only issue was that the sound file wasn't selected.

freeze and close completely. This is also reproducible with firefox.

Is almost certainly linked to Bug 147374 but since epiphany is different
maybe it will need to be modified also. And, it should be easier to
track down the real problem source with two bug reports from different
apps.

I have some friends, really smart people which know a lot of languages,
have some simple trable with with gnome...

if you trying to copy some file or folder from one folder to other :-)
and there is already one with the same name you will get simple question
"A folder named 'bla bla bla' already exist. Do you want to replace
it?" it is really simple but not for smart people instead of
press "skip" in german "Überspringen" they will try and try press "close
window" button but the problem is, _this button is not working_.

How i think. if this button exist it should working... if not - it is a
bug.

I think I've found the same bug. I try to open a little ogg file (self-
maded screencast) in Totem and VCL Media Player (Ubuntu 7.04) and get
this:

Totem 2.18.1:
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ulimit -c unlimited
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ totem
The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 87 error_code 11 request_code 141 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)"

VLC media player 0.8.6:

[Bug 145375] Re: The requested page was not found in the document /usr/share/gnome/help/gnome-doc-make/C/gnome-doc-make.xml.

2007-09-30 Thread Duncan Lithgow
Hi Matthew, Phil: No I don't have beagle installed on this system, I
thought tracker was the same... oh well.

By searching for 'workspace switcher' I can give you the direct link:
file:///usr/share/gnome/help/gnome-doc-make/C/gnome-doc-
make.xml#migrating and yes, exists. I can also
confirm that the XML opens in firefox.

The link which is contained in my search for 'Workspaces' is
file:///usr/share/gnome/help/gnome-doc-make/C/gnome-doc-
make.xml#gospanel-3 and in the XML there is no section called
"gospanel-3".

So does this bug need to be broken down into several?
* this is a bug in the way that the Yelp 2.19.90 error dialog displays the
failed path... it was not showing me the full path, including the section,
which failed.
* this is also a bug about a hard-coded path which is wrong
(gnome-doc-make.xml#gospanel-3 section doesn't exist)
* this is also a bug about strange differences in search results between
systems (without beagle)

Aw: [Bug 139429] Re: BlackJack: expectation false

2007-09-30 Thread LAZA
Hai!

First of all I would check wikipedia.
There you can read, you can split with ANY double cards - but: an variant is
you can only split an 9, 10, or 11.
If this an variant from Vegas is... - I don't know.

But: After checking the rules in wikipedia I found some other errors!

A. The chain of given cards is wrong: In the rules from wikipedia is
1th card for me
2nd card for croupier
3rd card for me
4th card for me - not for croupier!!! (if desired)
5th card for me... and so on til I check busted.

B. An splitted hand you can't double.

After reseaching in google I found some sites with other rules (spec. for
Vegas):
http://www.casinocity.com/rule/black.htm
http://www.ildado.com/blackjack_rules.html
http://www.sportbet.com/Blackjack/Blackjack-Rules.html
http://wizardofodds.com/blackjack/vegas.html
As you can see on the latest site many variants of BJ are 'correct'.

For more questions or other stuff your welcome
LAZA

[Bug 137570] Re: [Gusty] Totem doesn't add subtitles manually

2007-09-30 Thread Irios
Totem cannot recognize multiple subtitle files (in more than one
language, for example), because the only difference it contemplates
between the movie and subtitle filenames is the suffix.

Just as many living-room DVD+DivX players do, what Totem could do is
watch for a match in the filename only up to the first dot to find the
subtitle files, and deduce the subtitle type from the letters after the
last dot. This allows multiple files in multiple languages with names
like Movie.avi, Movie.es.srt, Movie.fr.srt,
Movie.directorComments.en.srt and so on.

[Bug 147070] Re: bottom panel not visible when desktop starts

2007-09-30 Thread Perpetual
As albert confirmed, when Visual Effects are set to None, the panel is
normal. Any other settings cause the panel to not be visible.

Disabling compiz-fusion plugins does not appear to make a difference.

[Bug 96706] Re: menu editor won't accept changes

2007-09-30 Thread Ridgeland
I'm getting this error in 7.10 Beta
It is not consistent.
I can add items like Applications -> Accessories -> File Browser
and it works. The menu shows it.
But I cannot add Applications -> System Tools.
Not as root, as system admin, as terminal running "sudo alacarte".
It seems to allow executable items to be added but not submenus.
I tried to create a new submenu and it refuses that to.

[Bug 146258] Re: Poor subtitle filename recognition

2007-09-30 Thread Irios
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 137570 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137570

Sorry, I messed up somehow doing the tests, and I was wrong on the .srt
suffix not being understood. If the filename is the same except for the
.srt suffix, Totem DOES correctly display the subtitles. That leaves
only the multiple subtitle problem.
