[Bug 32089] Re: Non-i18n date formatting in Evolution time edit fields

2007-10-14 Thread Aleksander Łukasiewicz
The bug whch I described in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/151697 is still
there 3 days before 7.10 is to be released. It makes Gutsy's default
email/calendar/contact suite USELESS for users of Polish locale
settings. And it will prevent me from upgrading to 7.10 on my production
machine as it's crucial for my work. :(

[Bug 152824] Re: xdmcp/gdmchooser breakage from 2.20.0-0ubuntu3 -> 4

2007-10-14 Thread Alex Williamson
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 152505 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/152505

I applied the patch from 152505 and it does allow Xnest to connect,
however, there's still a problem. I have a thin client running an nfs
root installation of Fiesty. It connects to a gutsy server with xdmcp.
This configuration still fails with 2.20.0-0ubuntu4 (plus 152505 patch),
but works with ubuntu3. The client does support RandR, and I see this
in the X output:

(==) RandR enabled
(II) Initializing built-in extension RANDR

If I remove patch 63 from ubuntu4, it works like ubuntu3. Also, if I
comment out the RemoteGreeter line in my gdm.conf-custom file
(RemoteGreeter=/usr/lib/gdm/gdmgreeter) it works. Unless the fix
committed for 152505 is significantly different from the one in the
comments, patch 63 definitely still introduces a regression in xdmcp
support.

[Bug 152824] xdmcp/gdmchooser breakage from 2.20.0-0ubuntu3 -> 4

2007-10-14 Thread Alex Williamson
Public bug reported:

Upgrading from gdm_2.20.0-0ubuntu3 to gdm_2.20.0-0ubuntu4 broken my
xdmcp setup. I have the following in /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom:

[daemon]
RemoteGreeter=/usr/lib/gdm/gdmgreeter

[xdmcp]
Enable=true

On a remote system, I run:

Xnest -query :1

With ubuntu3, this works fine. With ubuntu4, the Xnest flashes between
the X root weave and a white background a few times, then dies. I also
end up with a /var/crash/_usr_lib_gdm_gdmgreeter.108.crash. If I
comment out the RemoteGreeter, I can once again connect via xdmcp,
however this is an obvious regression from ubuntu3 to ubuntu4, and a
regression from the behavior in Feisty.

[Bug 152810] Re: GDM faces not showing in Ubuntu Gutsy (LIVE-CD)

2007-10-14 Thread Agent-X
When I say I filed a complaint long ago, I filed it for Ubuntu 7.04. In
other words, the problem wasn't taken into consideration as something to
fix for Ubuntu 7.10. Other than that, for 7.04 it did work WHEN
installed it on the hard drive. But it did not work with the Live-CD.
Also, I wasn't able to find the bug I reported long ago. It's still the
same problem, though. I think the users/mods/admins brushed it off like
fools. Stupid...

[Bug 152810] GDM faces not showing in Ubuntu Gutsy (LIVE-CD)

2007-10-14 Thread Agent-X
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

I've reported this problem in the past, and it seems to have never been
fixed. The problem exists inside of the LIVE-CD version. I'm emphasizing
that it occurs with the Live-CD.

At the moment, I'm using Ubuntu Gusty. I can't remember the exact version, so
here is what the ISO says:
ubuntu-7.10-beta-desktop-i386

Here's what I did:

1. Add a new desktop user
2. Login to the desktop user
3. Give the user a face avatar: Chess piece avatar
4. Logged out
5. Logged in with user "ubuntu"
6. Changed the GDM to "Happy GNOME with Browser"
7. Applied changes
8. Logged out

I looked at the GDM browser, and it still showed the MSN-like /
marshmallow-type avatar for the new desktop user.
It shouldn't. For the new desktop user, I gave it the chess piece avatar.
However, the avatar is not showing up.
The chess piece avatar should be showing.

I did this same thing for LIVE-CD Ubuntu 7.04.
Inside of Live-CD 7.04, the face avatar didn't show up.
I already filed a complaint on this long ago, and it seems no one took care of
the problem.
The problem still exists.

[Bug 152228] Re: Color for IOWait hard to distinguish from Idle color

2007-10-14 Thread Matt Jones
I understand what IOWait is. And I get that it isn't busy, but waiting.
But while it is "busy waiting" (har har), those CPU cycles are lost, and
that percentage of the processor is utilized, making the machine slower.

What I'm saying, is that seeing your IOWait is useful. And that with the
current color scheme, it looks like your CPU is idle when it is using
IOWait. For example, a use case:

Bob, a Windows/.NET developer is using Ubuntu for the first time. He
installs MonoDevelop so he can try out .NET on Linux. Bob launches MD
from the main menu. He notices that it is taking a while for MD to load,
and his HDD sounds busy. He looks at his system monitor to see how busy
the machine is. It looks like the cpu is at 2%, but his entire desktop
is very slow, even the things that would not touch the HDD.

Because Bob's can't see the difference between #002F3D and #00, he
has a usability problem.

[Bug 151863] Re: Shortcuts "[" and "]" for loseless rotation don't work in full-screen mode

2007-10-14 Thread Michael Chudobiak
I don't know when 2.10.7 will be released by the main gthumb developer
(but it will probably be in the next week or two, I would guess), and I
don't know when Ubuntu will pick it up. I don't control releases.

If it is important to you, and you know how, you can check the new
version out of svn and compile it yourself.

[Bug 152785] collection goes back to start after data is saved

2007-10-14 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

When you change an image (say, rotate it) and save, then press
left/right to go to a neighbouring picture, you are sent back to the
first one in that folder.

This becomes more apparent if the collection pane is open: the active
image is always selected, but after saving any changes you can see how
NO image is selected.

[Bug 152769] clock runs slow - seconds change every 4-7 seconds

2007-10-14 Thread Howard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

Using Feisty c/w latest upgrades running in Virtual Machine Ware on Dell
Inspiron 5315 c/w Vista. Clock v.2-18-1 Two problems:
 a) In 'manual' mode time shown on clock lags behind actual time. To correct
the clock reading I use the time adjustment window and manually synchronize the
time to the correct time. I have noted that the seconds window changes only
every 4 to 7 actual seconds- - for example, if I have just synchronized the
time and the seconds read '23' they will change to '24' only after an interval
of 4 to 7 actual seconds. Consequently the clock always reads a time that is
lagged behind the actual time.
b) auto synchronization of the time doesn't work at all - the appropriate time
zone (America/Vancouver) and internet servers (clock.tricity.wsu.edu) are
chosen but the synchronization never occurs. The clock simply stops at
whatever time was shown immediately after the reading when the 'adjust time and
date' window was accessed. I have tried various internet servers with the same
lack of results. Auto synchronization doesn't ever seem to occur.

[Bug 12153] Re: Cannot use Windows key in keyboard shortcuts

I am having the same behaviour as Joseph Garvin on Gutsy. The Keyboard

Does somebody can upload it into the language-pack-gnome-fr-base

[Bug 152716] incorrect latex math highlighting

2007-10-14 Thread Alex Cornejo
Public bug reported:

Create an empty latex document
Insert some math environments using the old and discouraged $math$ and $$math$$
notation.
You will see the expressions properly highlighted as math (in my system theme
it is a light purple color).

Now use the new \(math\) and \[math\] notation.
The text will not be highlighted as math, it seems that \(\) and \[\] are not
recognized as math environment tokens by the highlighting engine.

Here is my example document to reproduce the bug:

\documentclass{article}

\begin{document}
$x+y=23$ should be the same as \(x+y=23\)

And $$z=1$$ should be the same as \[z=1\]

Ok thanks, rhythmbox indeed uses the libtotem-plparser7 library.
Actually I had another (old, and built from sources) version of rhythmbox in my

Thanks for your advice, and mea culpa :-)

[Bug 152688] gdm crashes endlessly loops

2007-10-14 Thread ryanb
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

I'm running with an nvidia card and 2 monitors using xinerama. After
the update to gdm it just crashes constantly saying "the launcher
crashed; attempting to use another one" or something like that. It
will just do this enlessly until I switch to a command line and stop
gdm.

>From the command-line I can "startx" with no problems.

I found a forum entry that had me change the gdm.conf Greeter line to:
Greeter=/usr/lib/gdm/gdmlogin

Now everything works again. It's ugly, but at least functional.

I looked through all the gdm logs I could and they say nothing different
than they did days ago (that's the only place I could think to find a
bug trace)...

[Bug 42772] Re: clock does not reclaim free space (pixels) on the right

In Gnome, I find that you are forced to run with "Show date" unchecked.
The change of date makes this bug more severe than it must seem to
upstream (whose default is unchecked IIRC rather than checked in
Ubuntu).

I'd really like to see this fixed given how annoying it is and how
easily it can be fixed.

Hi folks,

I can confirm that behaviour for todays gutsy. I can add some
information:

output of fdisk -l:

Disk /dev/sdb: 320.0 GB, 320072933376 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 38913 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xf990f609

*
sdb1: fat32
sdb2: luks + ext3
sdb3: ext3

* I experience this behaviour since I encrypted the 2nd partition two
days ago. A fully encrypted HD was mounted without any problems -- but I
tried that last week last time. My USB pendrive works without problems
(fat32).

* all my drives are mounted correctly if I restart hal with the drive plugged
in:

sudo /etc/init.d/hal restart

* pmount does it wirhout problems, too.

I'll attach -- like Alec -- the output of what was asked for in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices.

[Bug 147770] Re: awful print quality due to unwanted blur

2007-10-14 Thread Michael Chudobiak
Ah, the problem is that you are using SVG images. SVG is a vector
format. gThumb and eog are raster viewers.

The librsvg library is used by gThumb and eog to convert the SVG image
into a raster format - automatically causing fuzziness. I'm not sure
what dpi/resolution is used in the vector>raster conversion - whatever
it is, it is too coarse for your application.

gThumb and eog only provide basic support for SVG. For full support, you
do need to use a vector-based program like Inkscape. Bug the Inkscape
developers to add better printing support :-)

The isn't really a gthumb bug.

[Bug 152553] Re: 2.20.0-0ubuntu4: Login program died. Trying a second time.

2007-10-14 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Going in via SSH and changing gdm.conf by hand to use gdmlogin, instead
of gdmgreeter, makes GDM usable again, although obviously with the wrong
type of login module. I'm wondering whether 2.20.0-0ubuntu4 broke
something in GDM or whether it's actually caused by last-minute changes
in the Gutsy GDM theme?

[Bug 147770] Re: awful print quality due to unwanted blur

2007-10-14 Thread Xamusk
I've tried all of them.
By the way, the printer is an HP PSC-1315.
I think the problem may be (but I'm not sure) in the way gThumb (and eog) opens
the files. I've noticed that if I zoom in, the image already gets the blur
effect on-screen. That happens with normal pictures and SVGs alike, so I think
it could be in some anti-aliasing mechanism.
This is probably why one wouldn't normally see the problem, because it's only
noticeable in images where edge sharpness is important.
I'm attaching a screenshot showing exactly what I'm talking about (this is
already in the screen, before printing). And I'll also attach a screenshot of
Inkscape, where the image was created, showing how it should be.

[Bug 152660] Avant-window causes Gnome panel crash and a black part of the screen under itself (maybe because of the 3d settings)

2007-10-14 Thread Eric LE GUILLOU
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

under ubuntu ultimate 1.5, when running avant-window, it displays a
black zone instead of the background under the avant window panel. I

settings message and I can't stop it otherwise than by rebooting the
machine.
