[Bug 158572] Tracker desktop search can't search for exact phrase

2007-10-29 Thread Robert Dzikowski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

Searching for exact phrase like "There be dragons" in Trucker desktop search
gives incorrect results - the result set includes documents which contain all
of the words
from the phrase but don't contain the phrase itself.

My comment: What is wrong with Beagle or Google desktop search, why they
aren't installed by default? At least they can search for exact phrase.

2007-10-29 Thread eclectic
Public bug reported:

Gnometris 2.20.0.1 responds slowly to keystrokes, moves i make for one

it unplayable, i'll have to go back to older version that works but
doesn't look as cool.

this happened to me a minute or two into the first level, before I could hardly
score at all.
tried it several times with the same results.

[Bug 158564] Clicking mouse does not always give clicked window focus

2007-10-29 Thread Kirk Bridger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

Quite often (every few minutes) my mouse behaviour changes. Clicking an
open window does not give that window focus. If I click a non-focused
window and then use the keyboard or mouse, the events are passed to the
last application that (still) has focus. The newly clicked window does
not receive focus. I am able to use ALT-TAB to change focus, and the
window receives it normally.

[Bug 158443] Re: Remove the line around the statusbar when Sending/Receiving

2007-10-29 Thread Basilio Kublik
Hi Harm
The idea of a status bar is to show the current status, if this means tell the
user that the mail is being checked, this is what should do, not just when you
click on the send/receive button the mail is checked, this can also be
configured in the preferences of the mail account, case in which could be very
helpful know when the mail is being checked.

If you still think this is a usability bug, you are welcome to report
it upstream where the developers of the application can easily find the
report. Thanks for point this issue and try to make Ubuntu better, feel
free to report any future bugs you might find.

[Bug 131973] Re: desktop random freezes in feisty

2007-10-29 Thread Mike Gerwitz
I do not believe this problem is caused by compiz. I experienced random
lockups both with compiz enabled and disabled. I have an nVidia graphics
card and use the restricted drivers. No specific action causes the
freeze - it's happened while I was in the middle of typing, while the
computer was left idle (I originally thought that was the problem),
while no programs at all were running, etc. This occurred in Gnome,
using Gutsy. I have not tried any other window managers.

[Bug 158504] gnome panel hangs after suspend

2007-10-29 Thread Mehul J. Rajput
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I am using gutsy with compiz fusion effects enabled.

After I suspend the computer, it goes to sleep without any problem.

But after waking up I get a notification stating there was some problem
in suspending your computer

and then gnome panel hangs not all but the applications, places, system
hangs, along with the launcher i have put on the panel. They do not
respond on left click. Other icons like deskbar etc. can alteast take
right clicks, no left click work on them. I am using right handed mouse.

I tried killing gnome-panel to no help. I logged out and logged in but
no fix. I have to reboot to get gnome working again.

Also, I have noted that nautilus too hangs during this time and I am not
able to start nautilus.

2007-10-29 Thread Deathbot
i have the same problem. the only problem with it is, i want to be able
to use the visual effects. i know, i'll just have to live without them.
but here's the strange thing:

I was using visual effects (in 7.10), and they worked just fine. I must
have done something to mess them up. The only thing I did was set it so
ubuntu knows that i'm using a samsung monitor. after i changed that, it
got messed up. I even changed it back, but nope, no luck. I really like
the feel that the visual effects provide, so if anyone could help, it
would be nice.

I set the CONCURRENCY=shell and the HAL problem came back. rc2.d stayed at

Set CONCURRENCY=none, rebooted and HAL is working again.

[Bug 26419] Re: gnome-session hangs when "lo" is not correctly configured

2007-10-29 Thread kailden
I had a similar problem (upon upgrade from feisty to gutsy) and I think it was
a problem with gnome-power-manager.
When I ran gnome-power-manager in a terminal, it couldn't find
/usr/lib/libwnck-1.so-18.

I made a symbolic link as follows:

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libwnck-1.so.22 /usr/lib/libwnck-1.so.18

and made sure that gnome-power-manager was running in my gnome session,

(System->Preferences->Sessions  and check Power Manager)

and now there is no hang.

[Bug 158483] evince mishandles duplex printing of multiple copies of PDFs with an odd number of pages.

2007-10-29 Thread zjohnson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

First of all thank you for developing a fairly nice and intuitive
document viewer, and if this bug report is best submitted to some
subsystem project which specificly handles printing, well I'm sorry and
hope that someone can move it to the right place for me. :)

Okay so say you have an HP laserjet 4300 DN which is a duplex laser printer.

Say you have the proper PPD file for it.

Say you have a 3 (or any odd number) of pages in a PDF document

Say you want 2 copies of said document.

So you select print, and select 2 copies, and also confirm that "Page
Setup->Two-sided" is already set to "Flip on Long Edge".

What you end up with is 3 pieces of paper. Each printed on both sides.

The main problems are that the 2nd piece of paper contains page 3 on one
side, and page 1 on the other.

And the general side-y-ness is thrown off by 1 for the entire 2nd copy
of the document.

I strongly think it should make the 2nd side of the 2nd piece of paper
blank and start anew for the 2nd document. and I think most people would
agree. :)

Also if you attempt to collate in the above situation things get even
more silly. You end up with 3 pieces of paper. The first with page 1
printed on both sides and the 2nd paper with page2 on both sides, and so
on.

BTW, I also tried this on a Xerox Phaser 8550 with its own PPD and
experienced the same results.

Thank you,
Zachariah Johnson

[Bug 24280] Re: [Theme Manager] No installation option for system wide themes, difference is not communicated in the user interface

2007-10-29 Thread Michal Suchanek
Since the user has root access anyway, allowing to use the user's theme is not
a problem. There are certainly many other holes like this in GTK, and the only
way to avoid them is to not run GTK applications as root, ever.
For one, the application does apply the users theme settings, it just searches
for the theme in the wrong place. If you want this kind of security the
application should *not* use the user's settings.

However, there is one more problem. If you su to an user other than root
the ~/.themes might not be accessible. Anybody doing that must do it
manually, though. So they should also know how to make their theme
available.

Well, the problem was not, as I understand it, with the current version
but with the previous one, libgnomeui_common_2.20.0_0ubuntu1, which, at
removal, was making a gconf-schema call.

My Ubuntu install was made in july, and apart from universe and
multiverse, the deposits I have enabled are security, backports,
proposed and commercial from ubuntu, and wine, medibuntu and opera. I
don't think libgnomeui comes from one of those last three, but might be
mistaken.

As for sending the file, I had to do an "apt-get source clean" before
upgrading, for disk space reasons, so I don't have any copy left of the
package. I genuinely think it was the ubuntu one, but I can be mistaken.

[Bug 158446] workspace switcher issues

2007-10-29 Thread RJ
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Workspace switcher applet always shows that there are 4 workspaces-even
when I right-click it to change the #of workspaces. Compiz lets me
switch between workspaces. This does so too, but goes altogether
different workspace?

[Bug 156593] Re: toolbar still displayed in slideshow

2007-10-29 Thread Jeldert Pol
I think I found the cause of this problem, it's Compiz.

Steps to reproduce:
1. In menu System, select Preferences, Appearance. Select tab Visual Effects.
2. Select None. Now, open a graphics file in eog, and start a slideshow. The
toolbar is shown, but disappears after about 4 seconds.
3. Select Normal, or Extra. Now, open a graphics file in eog, and start a
slideshow. The toolbar is shown. After about 4 seconds, the screen flashes
(partially) to black, with the image and toolbar still partially visable. After
some time the flashing stops, but the toolbar is still visible. During the
flashes the slideshow continues to rotate pictures.

I'm using a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, with "ati" driver.

I'm hoping someone can confirm this failure in eog.

2007-10-29 Thread joehill
Pedro--it only happens with Evince. Sebastien--you're right, I've
realized that if I push a key while the "file" menu is activated, that
key is set as the shortcut for the highlighted action. So I must have
pushed Alt-F4 at some point while the menu was open. Sorry about that.
I didn't realize that simply pressing a key combination actually changed
the shortcut.

[Bug 133567] Re: nautilus hangs on accessing vfat drives - statfs() blocks for a long time

2007-10-29 Thread Martin Pitt
We do not add non-Ubuntu partitions to /etc/fstab by default any more,
so this should only affect people who manually added them and thus know
where to change it. Automatically changing fstab on upgrades is not an
option, since we do not always know what the admin actually put there
deliberately.

[Bug 158426] When dpi is smaller than 96, font in Calendar too large

2007-10-29 Thread Harm Hilvers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I changed the dpi in my Gnome desktop to 72 instead of the default 96
dpi. The font size of all fonts is set to 11, which gives me a pretty
smooth desktop experience. Almost all applications know how to handle
this altered dpi setting and even Evolution does it fine, except for one
location, namely the calendar. The font of the day numbers (1 - 30/31)
is too large on two places: the small calendars beneath the calendar
list on the left and in the large calendar view in the middle of the
application.

I will attach a screenshot where this problem is visible in a few
seconds.

[Bug 158424] Ctrl-O, not Alt-F4, should open document in evince

2007-10-29 Thread joehill
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

There is no usable keyboard shortcut for "open document" in evince (in
Gutsy and previous Ubuntu versions). "Alt-F4" is currently set to open
document, but the result (unless you change your window manager's
default shortcuts) is to close the window, not to create an open
document dialog. Nearly every other graphical application in the past
decade has used "Ctrl-O" to open a document. Evince should follow the
same rule instead of having a non-functioning shortcut. Thanks.

[Bug 146290] Re: gimp "open from url" doesn't work

2007-10-29 Thread Neil Woolford
This is also a problem for those of us who wish to edit files stored on
other machines on a local network.

I just spent around five hundred pounds on a network attached storage
appliance and was not best pleased when I couldn't open files or save to
it from the Gimp... Then I remembered that I've never been able to open
files on other machines on the (Samba) network from within Gimp.

After some desperate googling and a coffee and some more googling I find
that the the VFS support module is simply not included by default.
Adding gimp-gnomevfs is a complete fix for me using Gnome. It of course
updates the (Gimp) file chooser to show network locations, so you don't
even need to mess with the "Open URI" feature.

Can I request the package managers consider including gimp-gnomevfs as a
dependency rather than it just being a recommend dependency?

[Bug 10669] Re: Filters are not applied to new mail on Exchange

2007-10-29 Thread Basilio Kublik
Hi Steve
You can check the status of this bug or comment you findings upstream at
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=272611, where the developers can
easily find it, at this point there's no much we can do here, since this issue
isn't exclusive of Ubuntu, but rather a bug in the connector itself.

[Bug 158410] Fullscreen flickers badly in EOG.

2007-10-29 Thread Volanin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

I am running an updated version of Ubuntu Gutsy with Compiz enabled.
When I open a picture in EOG, and press F11 to see it fullscreen, it
appears normally, with a toolbar at the top.

If I wait about 5 seconds for the toolbar to disappear, the screen starts
to flicker very badly, and I must leave fullscreen to get it right again.

[Bug 158403] Minor/Major lines indistinguishable in gnome-sudoku

2007-10-29 Thread casperlingus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

The major lines (separating 3x3 blocks from other 3x3 blocks) and the
minor lines (defining the 3x3 blocks) are not distinct enough. This
creates problems when examining blocks in the middle of the puzzle, and
there is a disorientation about which cells belong to which major
blocks. The suggestion is to change the color of minor lines to a gray
or silver to make them clearly distinguishable from the major lines.

In its current state, I find gnome-sudoku unplayable (personally) for
this reason. This should be an easy fix.

[Bug 133124] Re: MASTER [GUTSY] firefox crashed [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] from libcairo

2007-10-29 Thread Jordan Erickson
I can also verify, on a new Gutsy AMD64 install with all updates applied
as of 2007/10/29, Firefox will crash semi-instantly (you can see the
window appear, and then close out, with a "Segmentation fault (core
dumped)" message on the console.

Switching Gnome theme from "Human" to "Glossy" causes Firefox to load
normally. This is with VESA video drivers loaded.

[Bug 151523] And once again...

2007-10-29 Thread Carl-Erik Kopseng
the calendar appointments mysteriously reappears. Too late this time -
evolutions calendar program is way too buggy to be put to use for
anything but as a testing/debugging case. It's Google Calendar from now
on. But if anyone is willing to look at the bug in the future I have
posted all the info I could think of that was relevant. Error output and
screen shots in the comments above.

Also, apparently this bug was assigned to Ubuntu Desktop Bugs on
2006-01-13. I'm recommending that the bug be reassigned since its
closing in on two years old at this point.
