I do not believe this problem is caused by compiz. I experienced random lockups both with compiz enabled and disabled. I have an nVidia graphics card and use the restricted drivers. I had a similar problem (upon upgrade from feisty to gutsy) and I think it was a problem with gnome-power-manager. [Bug 158483] evince mishandles duplex printing of multiple copies of PDFs with an odd number of pages.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince First of all thank you for developing a fairly nice and intuitive document viewer, and if this bug report is best submitted to some subsystem project which specificly handles printing, well I'm sorry and hope that someone can move it to the right place for me. :) Okay so say you have an HP laserjet 4300 DN which is a duplex laser printer. Say you have the proper PPD file for it. Say you have a 3 (or any odd number) of pages in a PDF document Say you want 2 copies of said document. So you select print, and select 2 copies, and also confirm that "Page Setup->Two-sided" is already set to "Flip on Long Edge". What you end up with is 3 pieces of paper. Each printed on both sides. The main problems are that the 2nd piece of paper contains page 3 on one side, and page 1 on the other. And the general side-y-ness is thrown off by 1 for the entire 2nd copy of the document. I strongly think it should make the 2nd side of the 2nd piece of paper blank and start anew for the 2nd document. and I think most people would agree. :) Also if you attempt to collate in the above situation things get even more silly. You end up with 3 pieces of paper. The first with page 1 printed on both sides and the 2nd paper with page2 on both sides, and so on. BTW, I also tried this on a Xerox Phaser 8550 with its own PPD and experienced the same results. [Bug 24280] Re: [Theme Manager] No installation option for system wide themes, difference is not communicated in the user interface
Since the user has root access anyway, allowing to use the user's theme is not a problem. There are certainly many other holes like this in GTK, and the only way to avoid them is to not run GTK applications as root, ever. For one, the application does apply the users theme settings, it just searches for the theme in the wrong place. If you want this kind of security the application should *not* use the user's settings. However, there is one more problem. If you su to an user other than root the ~/.themes might not be accessible. Well, the problem was not, as I understand it, with the current version but with the previous one, libgnomeui_common_2.20.0_0ubuntu1, which, at removal, was making a gconf-schema call. My Ubuntu install was made in july, and apart from universe and multiverse, the deposits I have enabled are security, backports, proposed and commercial from ubuntu, and wine, medibuntu and opera. I think I found the cause of this problem, it's Compiz. Steps to reproduce: 1. In menu System, select Preferences, Appearance. Select tab Visual Effects. 2. Select None. Now, open a graphics file in eog, and start a slideshow. The toolbar is shown, but disappears after about 4 seconds. 3. Select Normal, or Extra. Now, open a graphics file in eog, and start a slideshow. The toolbar is shown. After about 4 seconds, the screen flashes (partially) to black, with the image and toolbar still partially visable. After some time the flashing stops, but the toolbar is still visible. During the flashes the slideshow continues to rotate pictures. I'm using a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, with "ati" driver. [Bug 158426] When dpi is smaller than 96, font in Calendar too large
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I changed the dpi in my Gnome desktop to 72 instead of the default 96 dpi. The font size of all fonts is set to 11, which gives me a pretty smooth desktop experience. Almost all applications know how to handle this altered dpi setting and even Evolution does it fine, except for one location, namely the calendar. The font of the day numbers (1 - 30/31) is too large on two places: the small calendars beneath the calendar list on the left and in the large calendar view in the middle of the application. I will attach a screenshot where this problem is visible in a few seconds. ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- When dpi is smaller than 96, font in Calendar too large https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/158426 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 146290] Re: gimp "open from url" doesn't work
This is also a problem for those of us who wish to edit files stored on other machines on a local network. I just spent around five hundred pounds on a network attached storage appliance and was not best pleased when I couldn't open files or save to it from the Gimp... Then I remembered that I've never been able to open files on other machines on the (Samba) network from within Gimp. After some desperate googling and a coffee and some more googling I find that the the VFS support module is simply not included by default. Adding gimp-gnomevfs is a complete fix for me using Gnome. It of course updates the (Gimp) file chooser to show network locations, so you don't even need to mess with the "Open URI" feature. Can I request the package managers consider including gimp-gnomevfs as a dependency rather than it just being a recommend dependency? -- gimp "open from url" doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146290 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 158403] Minor/Major lines indistinguishable in gnome-sudoku
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-games The major lines (separating 3x3 blocks from other 3x3 blocks) and the minor lines (defining the 3x3 blocks) are not distinct enough. This creates problems when examining blocks in the middle of the puzzle, and there is a disorientation about which cells belong to which major blocks.
