[Bug 12154] Re: Nautilus should have a superuser mode
I don't see why this would need to be done in nautilus, per se. Why not let me open the file as read only, then when it asks me if i want to save (in gedit, vim, etc), say to save this file, you need root privileges or something, and give the standard password prompt (with grey screen) that the update manager, etc does? I can replicate this bug. Note that copy paste to gedit seems to work fine, it's just drag drop that doesn't. Further, once the characters are represented correctly in gedit, they can be dragged and dropped to other the Epiphany location bar, Terminal, and Pidgin without difficulties. [Bug 158248] Re: Nautilus gives error too many files open when copying
This is related to bug #125739 (mpg123 and mpg321 won't play audio preview in Nautilus (Gutsy)). Nautilus opens a FIFO when you hover over an audio (.ogg / .mp3) file, but doesn't close it because esound isn't installed on gutsy anymore. To work around this bug you can either disable audio previews or install pulseaudio-esound-compat (and mpg321, sox and vorbis-tools if you want nautilus to actually play sound). You can continually monitor the number of FIFOs nautilus has opened with the following command: while /bin/true; do clear; lsof -c nautilus|awk '{ print $5; }'|sort|uniq -c|grep FIFO; sleep 1; done -- Nautilus gives error too many files open when copying https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/158248 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 164785] Typo in properties dialogue
You have been subscribed to a public bug: This isn't actually a coding bug, but a typo in the actual user interface. I didn't know any other place to report it. When trying a method described in one of the Ubuntu forum comments on this problem, I noticed that the XDMCP login box connect control shows a mouse-over message like open session on the last selected machine. I am not sure of the English phrase because the 400MHz computer language was updated to Gusty in Brazilian Portuguese and despite having changed the current language to English (US) no matter what I do I cannot change the welcome screen not the XDMCP login box to English (the 2600MHz language is French). [Bug 157281] Re: no option to play audio attachment
Sure. The attached screenshot shows that I get only a Save As... option in the pull down and that the play button is dimmed. I can see that evo knows that this is audio from the play button musical notes icon, but I don't know why it's dimmed. I've been running gnome for a long time and it could be that I've inherited no defunct mimetype/mailcap entries. Editing .gnome/application-info/user.applications and .mailcap didn't seem to help, but I'm unsure that I've gotten those to take effect or whether those files are even relevant. I'll attach a sample email next. ** Attachment added: screenshot w/wav options (i.e., only save) http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10547011/evo-wav.png -- no option to play audio attachment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157281 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I've attached a redacted version of a sample voicemail email. I don't know enough about mime encapsulation to know whether this format is kosher; perhaps this attachment will aid diagnosis. [Bug 164804] Re: Gnome Login Error
Well I'm not quite sure what package it effects. But what I will do is the next time this error occurs (which shouldn't be too long from now) I will look over my system logs for any unusual error messages that may be related to this. Any other suggestions on what I can do to track down what package is causing this? It basically happens after I first log in, around the time the GNOME splash screen would show if enabled. Not sure whether this is of any help to you. I encountered the same symptoms and discovered that the problem stemmed from the permissions of /etc/pam.d/common-password being incorrectly set to 600 when it should be 644. [Bug 156060] Re: Rhythmbox not display graphics if click on visualization and select a GOOM (Intermitent bug)
I'm having the same problem. Maybe this will clarify things a bit: The problem is that in a Rhythmbox installation in Ubuntu 7.10, the GOOM visualization plugin does not work -- when visualization is active and GOOM is selected, Rhythmbox can even seize up and almost freeze. Sometimes even the music stops playing for a while. This problem is limited to the GOOM visualization and does not occur with the Monoscope visualization, which works fine. I actually had Rhythmbox uninstalled and reinstalled it via Add/Removs Programs. I don't know if that is a factor (it may be). In any case, even after uninstalling and reinstalling Rhythmbox, the included GOOM default plugin should work and it does not. -- Rhythmbox not display graphics if click on visualization and select a GOOM (Intermitent bug) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/156060 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

similar problems here. -- fresh gutsy install, noticed that copying files from various folders to the desktop was actually putting them into .Trash. i emptied the trash and restarted through gnome. now, gnome was treating my home folder as ~/Desktop, and the desktop_as_home_dir option was not set in the gconf XML file. some fiddling around with the gconf setting and restarting several times yielded nothing. found this post and set the variable. this fixed the problem after a full restart. i had copied over my home folder from a fiesty install. perhaps this caused the issue? -- though i don't remember these files in fiesty? these are part of freedesktop? thanks. jcran -- files from ~ shown on desktop (desktop_is_home_dir == false) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/154037 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 156060] Re: Rhythmbox not display graphics if click on visualization and select a GOOM (Intermitent bug)
PPS: While GOOM now works, there still is a significant delay upon activating a GOOM visalization. The music playback may even stop for a while. This is on an Intel Celeron 2.8 GHz PC with 2 GB RAM, so this probably should not happen.
[Bug 156060] Re: Rhythmbox not display graphics if click on visualization and select a GOOM (Intermitent bug)
Maybe if the issue with the GOOM visualization cannot be fixed, then a good alternative would be to remove the GOOM entry from the Rhythmbox visualization menu. libvisual-0.4-plugins might be a good alternative. Upon installing this package (not installed by default), a number of nice and well-working and responsive visualizations become available in Rhythmbox.
[Bug 156060] Re: Rhythmbox not display graphics if click on visualization and select a GOOM (Intermitent bug)
PS: The OP mentioned Compitz. I don't think Compitz has anything to do with it; for what it's worth, I have it disabled and I'm having the same problem. I don't even think OpenGL is necessarily at fault -- OpenGL works on my system, and I can use demanding OpenGL applications such as Chromium B.S.U. I am using the mga graphics driver (Matrox Millennium G450 DualHead graphics card), though I don't think the graphics drivers are to blame either, it looks to me as if maybe GOOM is not installed (correctly). I even manually installed the xmms-goom package in Synaptic, but that didn't help either (I think Rhythmbox uses GStreamer, but there isn't any other GOOM package in Synaptic). UPDATE -- POSSIBLE FIX: I just installed the gstreamer0.10-gl package, and this immediately fixed this problem. It appears that the Rhythmbox should depend on gstreamer0.10-gl, but it currently does not do so.
