Re: [Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs

2007-11-27 Thread Ignacio Lago Fontán
As Laurynas Batkus said it's present in Eclipse too. At work I've reproduced
the error everyday. I can reproduce the error with Gedit, Geany and Eclipse.

At work I'm using Gutsy, the server is a Windows 2003 Server with all the
employees folders and a shared space. In my case a total of 4 mounted
(smbfs) CIFS filesystems with authentication. No sshfs at all.

[Bug 172503] Compiz + separate X server multi-head nvidia setup => GUI responses delayed by 1 second

2007-11-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: compiz

Just like the title says.

I have an up-to-date i686 gutsy install on a Dell XPS M1710 laptop with
an NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS and a second monitor (a SONY KDL46XBR4 LCD
TV). If I enable Compiz and configure NVIDIA to enable the second
display using the Separate X Server option in nvidia-settings, then the
response to most GUI actions is delayed by 1 second. For example, if I
click on the Applications button at the top-left of the desktop, the
menu does not appear until after 1 second has gone by (though the button
does change to orange immediately). Similarly if I click on menus within
applications, or right-click on tray icons, or press Ctrl+Space to bring
up SCIM. Text input is not delayed though. Also, I notice that the
application SMPlayer--a KDE program--does not have any delay.

If compiz is not enabled, then this bug does not occur. If NVIDIA is set
to use TwinView, then this bug does not occur. Only the separate X
server set-up with compiz triggers the problem.

[Bug 172493] Totem uses wrong framerates for streaming video

2007-11-27 Thread Austin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I have been trying to stream video using Totem and the video is very
jerky. Take for example:

http://mpegmedia.abc.net.au/tv/enoughrope/vodcast/enoughrope_seinfeld1.wmv

If I download this link and play the file it is fine. Asking it to
stream and the video is very jerky.

When playing the downloaded file the framerate is reported to be 25 FPS
(which is right).

When streaming the framerate is reported to be 5 FPS (which is wrong).

I am running Gutsy with Totem Movie Player 2.20.0 using GStreamer

[Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs

2007-11-27 Thread acabre
I just want to bump what Crashmaxx says. All that is necessary to
reproduce this error is to mount a remote share to a folder with sshfs,
and try to save with a modified file with Gedit. I just checked Emacs,
KDevelop, and even OpenOffice Writer. All can open, read, and write a
file over sshfs. Gedit cannot. I'm with Crashmaxx too, if there is
anything I can do to make debugging this easier, I'm all for it!

[Bug 150471] Re: [Gutsy] high processor activity after logging out and then logging in again

2007-11-27 Thread FatButtLarry
I can confirm that Nautilus has a 100% cpu bug. I noticed it after
creating a shortcut "gksu nautilus /usr/share/icons". It hasn't
happened since, but it was the culprit of some strange Firefox behavior
on my end. Perhaps a good general fix is to kill both! :)

Edit:
sudo gedit /etc/gdm/PostSession/Default

Before "exit", put:
killall compiz.real
killall nautilus

Its like crashing out Explorer in windows, right!? J/k. Again, great
feedback here!

I don't think this is a samba bug, as I can confirm the bug, but with

[Bug 172469] Feature Request: Fullscreen view does not consider Fitts' law

2007-11-27 Thread Dhakir
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Fullscreen toolbar buttons have a "one-pixel border" on their corners.
This border goes against Fitts' law
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitts'_law), which, when applied to mouse-
based user interfaces, states that buttons near the edges of the screen
should be able to be activated on the edge itself, without requiring the
user to move back one pixel. To sum up, this is one of the factors that
make a difference between good interfaces (Mac menus, for instance) and
"less-good" ones (Windows menus).

For instance, both upper and lower panels in Gnome do not have such
borders, making it much easier to hit targets in these bars (requiring
less effort and speeding up interaction). Thus there is also an
inconsistence in evince.

These modifications should be easily done in many programs and
constitute a significant effort/gain ratio in terms of usability.

2007-11-27 Thread Koen Beek
way to reproduce :

1. set-up gedit

- open gedit
- click on "open"
- right-click on directory view and make sure that "Show hidden files" is active
- close gedit

2. create problem

- open gedit
- click on "open" (hidden files should now be shown)
- right-click on directory view and uncheck "show hidden files" (the hidden
files do not disappear !)
- right-click on directory view and check "show hidden files" (the hidden files
are now shown twice)

I've attached a screencast of the second part

It's not the same problem as Marc but I suppose they may well be linked
?

[Bug 164584] Re: gedit: trash files do not show in file browser

2007-11-27 Thread Koen Beek
Hi,

there is an option in Views which is called "Show Hidden Files" which
can also be used to toggle viewing backup (~) and hidden files (.)

changing the option in view->"show hidden files" seems to take effect
immediately in your nautilus session (however a change will not be remembered
across different nautilus sessions)
the value set in preferences->views->show backup and hidden files has a
different behavior :
  - this value will be used at a next nautilus session
  - a change in this value will take effect immediately only if the view->"show
hidden files" option has not been used in that nautilus session

I'm not sure whether this is the way it is supposed to work

In gedit you can right-click in the side pane and than choose
filter->show hidden to show hidden/backup files (or click on the key
symbol in the side pane)

same versions as Marc but on a Gutsy64bit

MB: Asus A8N Deluxe with NV chipset.
AMD 64 X2 4200

ATI Radeon 1600
Running the Vesa X driver, so no compiz or 3D running at all.

Sometimes I also get the error that Gnome theme manager failed to start

it's related.

Did not have any of these this issues in Edgy.

[Bug 172460] Capitalized email addresses aren't recognized

2007-11-27 Thread Ian
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Email addresses that are lower case underline when the mouse hovers over
them and the options to "Send Mail To..." and "Copy E-mail Address"
appear in the context menu. If email addresses begin with a capital

Reproduction is simply:

[Bug 172449] unable to use MOD operation after a x ᶺ y operation

2007-11-27 Thread Gerardo Castro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

I can't use de MOD operation after doing an x ᶺ y operation.
For instance:
I press (clicking with mouse) 25 ^ 3 =
the result on screen is OK, 15625 then y press:
MOD 3 =

The result is an error message saying that the operation parameters are invalid.
To partially fix this, I had to copy the value, delete the screen content, and
then paste the value, in order to
 do the MOD operation.

I was using gcalctool 5.20.2 (spanish translation)

Good job with the calculator, greetings from Uruguay, Gerardo.

[Bug 172434] Should be able to define personal safe senders within Evolution

2007-11-27 Thread David
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

It would be extremely helpful if one could add e-mail addresses to
Spamassassin's list of e-mail "addresses to never classify as spam" from
Evolution's Junk mail folder. The same probably applies to Bogofilter,
which we do not use.

The white listing would have the the option of creating either
whitelist_from_rcvd or the simpler whitelist_from entries in
/etc/spamassassin/local.cf depending on the availability of the IP
address of the sender's mail server.

[Bug 157099] Re: Automatic installation of DVD CSS support

2007-11-27 Thread Milan
Stephan: Please, I agree CSS is bad, I know this is not Ubuntu nor
GStreamer's fault, though we have to make it as clear and easy as
possible. 1) People always must be made aware of the problems going on -
they surely don't know about encrypted DVDs (anyway Windows is working
where we aren't here) 2) Some may want to install it, and once a
tutorial page explains clearly the legal blur around that (we're not
even sure it is illegal), it should be easy to do that without geek
knowledge.

So totem is the place to add a dialog explaining that each time a CSS
DVD is inserted (assuming GStreamer already tells totem that the problem
is decrypt plugin missing).

[Bug 150471] Re: [Gutsy] high processor activity after logging out and then logging in again

2007-11-27 Thread FatButtLarry
FYI - The following helped me in my efforts:

nvidia-settings >> Uncheck Sync to VBlank
sudo killall compiz.real

If compiz.real has been restarted, logins seem to work fine.

Dell Precision 450 Dual CPU, nVidia, Desktop Effects, Ubuntu 7.10.

Worth mentioning, this occurred after installing the AWN desktop
manager. It may have existed before, but I don't think so. I compiled
it from source, and had a TON of dependencies.

I will add the line to "/etc/gdm/PostSession/Default" as described
above.

[Bug 157099] Re: Automatic installation of DVD CSS support

2007-11-27 Thread Malte Cornils
Since even pointers to libdvdcss2 et al. are murky legal territory,
maybe it would be a useful feature to at least detect a DVD's usage of
the CSS system and show a note stating legal restrictions and so on
(ranging from "Sorry, we can't help you" and "Try an unprotected DVD" to
"Petition the EU parliament here: " and "Buy legal DVD player

[Bug 172402] Re: Evince automatically starts up when loading Xubuntu 7.10

2007-11-27 Thread Peter Cruickshank
For Xubuntu, there are two possibilities that I can think of.

First try the menu Applications>>Settings>>"Autostarted Applications".

That might have the evince program, which you can remove.

You should also have the menu Applications>>Settings>>"Sessions and
Startup">>Advanced (Tab).

I don't use XFCE, but if you're a new user maybe this will help you.

[Bug 172402] Evince automatically starts up when loading Xubuntu 7.10

2007-11-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ok I'm a new user, so I reported my problem first in the questions/answers
section. But didn't get any reply there, so I guess that makes it a bug...

The problem goes as follows:

I have Xubuntu 7.10 installed, and somewhere I shutted down the laptop
while Evince was still running. Now every time I start up Xubuntu,
Evince outomatically loads itself with a blank screen (no pdf loaded).

I have removed Evince, I have completely removed Evince and I have
completely removed Evince and deleted the (hidden) personal preference
files in the Home folder manually, but none of these things worked. When
I install Evince again, it gives the same problem.

I like using Evince, but this is just annoying...

[Bug 172307] Re: Last.fm radio stations play one click too late

Here it is. I deleted a lot of lines to trim it down from 16M -> 188K,
but if you want the original I still have it. You can see I selected

When I selected Juno's, it carried on playing songs from Godspeed's.

2007-11-27 Thread fjgaude
Thanks, Pedro, for you quick response. I have attached one of over
10,000 wmf files that would render in Feisty correctly. There is nothing
special about how to go about this, click on the fake thumbnail in the
program window... I have three installs of Gutsy, two 64-bit, one
32-bit. All do the same in gThumb and Nautilus.

Steps, load OS, run Nautilus, go to folder that contains some wmfs and
click on one of them. Nothing but a black screen.

If you wish more info, please let me know.

Regards and thanks again,
tanzen

[Bug 172380] Re: gThumb no longer renders WMF files like 7.04 did.

2007-11-27 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Also having the image you're trying to see would be really helpful,
thanks!.
