[Bug 172503] Compiz + separate X server multi-head nvidia setup => GUI responses delayed by 1 second
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: compiz Just like the title says. I have an up-to-date i686 gutsy install on a Dell XPS M1710 laptop with an NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS and a second monitor (a SONY KDL46XBR4 LCD TV). If I enable Compiz and configure NVIDIA to enable the second display using the Separate X Server option in nvidia-settings, then the response to most GUI actions is delayed by 1 second. For example, if I click on the Applications button at the top-left of the desktop, the menu does not appear until after 1 second has gone by (though the button does change to orange immediately). Similarly if I click on menus within applications, or right-click on tray icons, or press Ctrl+Space to bring up SCIM. Text input is not delayed though. Also, I notice that the application SMPlayer--a KDE program--does not have any delay. If compiz is not enabled, then this bug does not occur. If NVIDIA is set to use TwinView, then this bug does not occur. Only the separate X server set-up with compiz triggers the problem. ** Affects: gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete -- Compiz + separate X server multi-head nvidia setup => GUI responses delayed by 1 second https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/172503 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gtk+2.0 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 172469] Feature Request: Fullscreen view does not consider Fitts' law
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince Fullscreen toolbar buttons have a "one-pixel border" on their corners. This border goes against Fitts' law (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitts'_law), which, when applied to mouse- based user interfaces, states that buttons near the edges of the screen should be able to be activated on the edge itself, without requiring the user to move back one pixel. To sum up, this is one of the factors that make a difference between good interfaces (Mac menus, for instance) and "less-good" ones (Windows menus). For instance, both upper and lower panels in Gnome do not have such borders, making it much easier to hit targets in these bars (requiring less effort and speeding up interaction). Thus there is also an inconsistence in evince. These modifications should be easily done in many programs and constitute a significant effort/gain ratio in terms of usability. [Bug 157099] Re: Automatic installation of DVD CSS support
Stephan: Please, I agree CSS is bad, I know this is not Ubuntu nor GStreamer's fault, though we have to make it as clear and easy as possible. 1) People always must be made aware of the problems going on - they surely don't know about encrypted DVDs (anyway Windows is working where we aren't here) 2) Some may want to install it, and once a tutorial page explains clearly the legal blur around that (we're not even sure it is illegal), it should be easy to do that without geek knowledge. So totem is the place to add a dialog explaining that each time a CSS DVD is inserted (assuming GStreamer already tells totem that the problem is decrypt plugin missing). -- Automatic installation of DVD CSS support https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157099 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

You have been subscribed to a public bug: Ok I'm a new user, so I reported my problem first in the questions/answers section. But didn't get any reply there, so I guess that makes it a bug... The problem goes as follows: I have Xubuntu 7.10 installed, and somewhere I shutted down the laptop while Evince was still running. Now every time I start up Xubuntu, Evince outomatically loads itself with a blank screen (no pdf loaded). I have removed Evince, I have completely removed Evince and I have completely removed Evince and deleted the (hidden) personal preference files in the Home folder manually, but none of these things worked. Re: [Bug 172380] Re: gThumb no longer renders WMF files like 7.04 did.
Thanks, Pedro, for you quick response. I have attached one of over 10,000 wmf files that would render in Feisty correctly. There is nothing special about how to go about this, click on the fake thumbnail in the program window... I have three installs of Gutsy, two 64-bit, one 32-bit. All do the same in gThumb and Nautilus. Steps, load OS, run Nautilus, go to folder that contains some wmfs and click on one of them. Nothing but a black screen.
