[Bug 178056] Replacing default directories in home folders glitchy

2007-12-21 Thread Nanley Chery
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xdg-user-dirs-gtk

When replacing the folders in my home directory - Documents, Pictures,
Public, Music, Templates, and Videos - with identically named links
from a different partition or drive, only a fraction of the links appear
(Public and Templates). I must reload my home directory in order to see
the rest. The same happens when I replace those links with folders, or
those links with links, but this does not happen when I replace the
original folders with folders. This does also not happen when choosing
the "Replace" option in the popup dialog for each folder, but only when
choosing "Replace All". I have been able to reproduce this on my desktop
and my laptop.

[Bug 42115] Re: Clicking on date in calendar applet open previous date in Evolution

2007-12-21 Thread Robert Di Gioia
after reviewing this bug, it appears that it was fixed in Edgy.

I'm using Gutsy, and still it is opening the wrong date.

The command evolution calendar:///?startdate=$(date +"%Y%m%dT%H%M%SZ")
opens Evolution with the correct date.

My locale (LANG) is en_US.UTF-8

My timezone is America/New York (Eastern).

Should I open a new bug for this or is updating this bug sufficient?

[Bug 178050] Feature request: save history

2007-12-21 Thread Nanley Chery
Public bug reported:

The Gimp should have the ability to save the history of an edited file.
This would let you reproduce a set of actions to get a desired output if
you've forgotten how you've achieved an unsurprisingly desirable output.
Also this would be helpful if software projects were sharing or
proposing artwork. If this feature could not be fully integrated, then
maybe a text output would be sufficient.

This nonexistant feature is mentioned here:
http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/article/3-Click-Tut-How-To-Use-The-Gimp-quot-history-Brush-14545.html
"The only limit of the “Undo” and of the “Undo (or History) Brush is that need
a “image history” to use, so they could not work if the image was closed (Till
now there is not option to save the history of the image within the image file

[Bug 178010] Re: I am noto so fluent in english

2007-12-21 Thread Nanley Chery
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively" [WWW]
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems. [WWW]
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs

2007-12-21 Thread High_Yield
Bro - first and foremost a text editor needs to "correctly save" files
after editing them. If it cannot do that properly then perhaps a
"sweeping assessment" is in order don't you think?

If your new hard disk supported SATA4/UDMA8, quintuple buffering, had a
2 gig cache but when you tried to use it, it deleted rather than saving
bytes - what would you do? Maybe look for and plug in an old IDE
drive?

Plus,
- the first post on this bug was in early 2006 (2006-03-14) and it's almost
2008 now...
- not "fixing" to retain "robustness"? What? I don't consider "accidental file
deletion" robustness my man.
- this is not a trivial "bell and whistle" piece of functionality, this is
saving files - a.k.a. critical.
- yadda yadda...

Take care.

[Bug 177816] Re: Automatic scrolling to off-screen content is slow and hard to use

2007-12-21 Thread Endolith
It's not a bug; it's an enhancement request.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create a test folder
2. Inside, create more test folders, until there are many more than your screen
can display at once.
3. Set this to list view
4. Scroll to the top of the list
5. Ctrl+drag a file from another window to copy it.
6. Drop the file into one of the folders at the bottom of the list.

You can do this by moving the mouse within within a few pixels of the
bottom edge of the window, which makes it automatically scroll, but it's
jumpy and very slw. It can take a long time to get it to scroll all
the way to the bottom.

What should happen is that it should smoothly start scrolling slowly
when you get into the bottom 1/4th of the window, and increase in speed
as you go lower, and decrease in speed as you go back up, like those
applets that you see on some websites that scroll automatically as you
move the mouse around, and let you select things by moving the mouse
back into the middle of the bar.

[Bug 178030] Some VFolders not updated in Evolution

2007-12-21 Thread Michele Costantino Soccio
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution sometimes doesn't update vfolders.
This happens when you start Evolution not using the usual "evolution" command.

Steps to reproduce
Be sure Evolution is not running.
Send an email, for example inserting an email address in the deskbar app, and
choosing "send email to..."
After the email has been sent the Evolution is not been showed, but it's
running in the background.
Now start Evolution: usually the more complex vfolder are not updated.

The only solution known to me is to close evolution (File -> Exit) and
to restart it.

[Bug 132612] Re: memory leak in evince?

2007-12-21 Thread kripkenstein
There is now a formal bug on the GNOME bugzilla tracker about this
matter,

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=504913

Perhaps people from here can add comments confirming the issue, example
PDF files on which it occurs, etc., so the Evince devs are convinced of
the severity of this issue.

[Bug 160202] Re: epiphany crashed with SIGSEGV in __kernel_vsyscall()

2007-12-21 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

I don't think that there is a Crash Report created, because the application
is still functioning. Just a single portion of the screen is no longer
updating. I tried to get a back-trace, but I could not get it to work. Is
there a simpler way to capture back-trace data?

Pedro, I created this issue exactly as you describe, and I already

[Bug 177938] [hardy] gnome-keyring doesn't unlock ssh keys

2007-12-21 Thread Yann Rouillard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring

I used to use seahorse as an ssh-agent, it allows me have my ssh keys
automatically unlocked on login, my passphrase being stored in the
keyring.

However since last upgrades in Hardy, it stopped working.
Seahorse can't be used anymore as an ssh-agent [1] as gnome-keyring is supposed
to provide one.
This is true, SSH_AUTH_SOCK is now a socket file owned by gnome-keyring-daemon,
but this doesn't seem to work as I have to enter my passphrase each time I
login in another computer.

[Bug 150193] Re: Remote Login via XDMCP is not working in Ubuntu Gusty/7.10

2007-12-21 Thread asis
here is the deb for 64 platform:
http://www.asis.it/gdm_2.20.1-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb

please keep in mind that to connect from gutsy to gutsy you need to Ctrl-Alt-F1
and 'sudo X :1 -query xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' on client side.
To connect from feisty (maybe edgy too?) to gutsy you need to switch to simple
style for remote access too on server (gutsy) side.

All in all I think the problem is partially solved...

[Bug 177841] Re: synaptic button not active when mouse is over it

2007-12-21 Thread Goswin
I can't see why this is not a bugreport. The button doesn't function
properly unless I move the mouse cursor away from it, and then back on
it. That doesn't seem to be intuitive, and I can't imagine it to be
default / intended behaviour. Maybe this is not synaptics, but GTK+
behaviour, but nonetheless it shouldn't be that way in my opinion.

[Bug 176457] Re: totem hangs when source does not respond

2007-12-21 Thread Oliver Gerlich
I can confirm this problem that Totem hangs when the server does not
respond (so it is probably difficult to reproduce). I have not
encountered any problems killing Totem in this situation., though.

In my case, I first opened a webradio station through Firefox, by going
to http://www.slayradio.org/home.php and clicking on the "Broadband"
link in upper left corner. After confirming to open the file in "Video
Player", Totem opened but then didn't react (clock cursor appeared, and
the Totem window was not repainted any more).

Looking at ps -Af , I saw that Totem was started with /tmp/listen.m3u as
parameter. I killed the hanging Totem instance and started it manually
with that parameter; again it didn't respond. However, after a while it
timed out and displayed the same message as described by Vern ("An error
occured" etc). I clicked OK and then selected another URL from the
playlist window, which was then played without problems.

The listen.m3u which is the playlist that was returned from the website
contains five different HTTP urls (http://relay?.slayradio.org:8000/),
and apparently the very first of these did not respond. I checked this
manually on another machine with xmms; it didn't get a connection either
to this particular server (relay3), but displayed a meaningful status
message ("Connected: waiting for reply").

Looking at the hanging instance with strace -p showed that it waited in a
select call:
select(20, [19], NULL, NULL, {26, 612000})

In my opinion Totem should in this case:
- still respond to user interaction
- allow the user to select another entry from the playlist (which should abort
the current connection try)
- show a status message that tells the user what's going on (so he knows the
app is not crashed, but the server "has a problem")

[Bug 177929] We needs file encoding select function.

2007-12-21 Thread Masoris
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

Many compressed file such as zip and tar don't support Unicode. But
file-roller read every file as UTF-8, so it sometimes makes encoding
problem.

I think may be, you could think that it's not a big problem or it's not
a bug or we don't need those feature. If you deal with only English it's
not a problem at all. But it's a big problem for East Asian people such
as Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Because zip file is still popular. And
many people compress zip file in Windows, and share the zip files.
Windows don't use UTF-8.

Many CJK people want to uncompress these zip files. There are some way
to solve this problem (by another software). But all are too complex to
Ubuntu newbies. I wish file-roller support encoding select function.

[Bug 177918] Ekiga shows video until I make a call: It then freezes the video my end and shows nothing on the remote end

2007-12-21 Thread Will
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ekiga

On Ubuntu Feisty (on Intel)

I managed to get my LML33 (Linux Media Labs) MJPEG video capture board
woking (it uses zoran zr36067 module) and Ekiga now detects it OK as an
LML33[0] video device when I select V4L2

The MJPEG video image displays fine when I fire up Ekiga, so I thought
all was well. But, as soon as I make a phone call, the video picture
freezes on my screen and the recipient cannot see an video picture from
me.

Furthermore, neither I nor the recipient can make Ekiga display the two video
screens side my side. It just seems to be stuck. So, I cannot even view the
video being sent to me by the person I called which is even worse.
So, I have to revert to the Picture device instead of V4L2 and then I can see
the recipients video again. Alternatively I can choose to just not load the
LML33 modules and then I can use the V4L2 option again and just transmit the
default bouncing ball.

So, Ekiga needs to be able to cope better with V4L2 video from certain devices,
e.g. the LML33 MJPEG cards and alike. Ideally, Ekiga should be able to use the
video that it currently happily displays when I'm not in call, when I'm in a
call!
Does that make sense? i.e. if video works when Ekiga is just idle and NOT in a
call, it should also work DURING a phone call.

Thanks.

[Bug 177913] Chat: Recipient's chat window does not pop up automatically

2007-12-21 Thread Will
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ekiga

Perhaps this is an enhancement request, not a bug.

On Ubuntu Feisty Linux (both for caller and recipient) when I start a
NEW chat message to someone, whether we are already on a VoIP phone call
or not, their chat window does NOT automatically pop up, so the
recipient does not know they've received a chat message from me UNLESS
they happen to click on thier chat icon button.

Now, if we are NOT on the VoIP phone already, then their computer does at least
beep to let them know they have an incoming chat message, but we think it would
be better to make the chat window pop-up like it does in
Skype, or at least make this a user-configurable option.

I often send chat messages whilst on the phone, and yes I could tell the
person to click on the Chat icon, but they would prefer it if the chat
window AUTOMATICALLY popped-up when I initiate a new chat with them.

Thanks.

[Bug 135471] Re: Addressbook crash when searching contacts by "any field contains"

2007-12-21 Thread hggdh
This seems to be fixed on up-to-date E-D-S on Hardy; if anyone is
running it, can you please confirm?

This may be a candidate for backporting -- at least to Gutsy level.
Simple fix, with many affected users. Please cofirm fixed as above. If
confirmed fixed, I can then ask for a backport.

[Bug 177709] Re: [hardy] Evo goes into error recovery on login after logout with Evo still running

2007-12-21 Thread hggdh
they are related, yes, I think. But I would not go as far as setting it
as a dup. bug 10918 (and upstream
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=219197) deal with correctly
closing an Evo session. The results from fixing it may (or may not)
resolve this bug.

Upstream has already set a depends on 219197; I think this is the
correct approach until we are sure that the fix for 219917 will also fix
this one.
