[Bug 178452] Re: Hardy - Evolution Hangs on Recovery dialog

2007-12-27 Thread hggdh
@Brad, can you please get a new backtrace, now with "thread aaply all

Also, before doing that, install either the Evo dbgsym or dgb packages
-- the actual function calls we would like to see are being listed right
now as '??', meaning you do not have debug symbols installed.

Please attach the output here rather than inlining it.

@Bengt: thank you for opening the bug. If you wish to, please do the
same as Brad.

@all: you may want to look at

install the dbgsym packages.

[Bug 178898] gedit crashes frequently when printing to file

2007-12-27 Thread Bruno
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

For the first time today, I tried to play with the print function of
gedit. I use gedit to do Perl scripting, so I have many of the
programming plugins and features activated (synthax highlighting,
bracket completion, space drawing, embedded terminal, etc). When I try
to print a current script to a file (it happened chosing either ps or
pdf) gedit crashes most of the time. Sometimes it happens when I just
click File->Print (ie, before the printing dialog pops up), sometimes
when I press 'Print' in the printing dialog after setting all the
options, and sometimes when I click on the 'Print preview' button. It
happened with two different script files that I tried. I still was able
to print the script to a file, but only after I tried a couple of times.

Thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubunut better.

This seems like a dup of bug 177709. Did you see the Crash Recovery

you will be put straight into Evo, with Preview disabled.

I want to be sure this is the same thing before I mark it as a dup.

[Bug 111264] Re: auto completeion for Gedit

2007-12-27 Thread Bruno
I think that it would come in handy when writing scripts. Autocompletion lets
you have long and meaningful variables names ($childrensmothersurname) without
making its retyping a burden. I understand that it's a lot to ask for for a
'simple text editor', but it could come as an optional plugin.
Some of us don't like vi or emacs! :) And oh, Kate already has it :p.

[Bug 178452] Re: Hardy - Evolution Hangs on Recovery dialog

2007-12-27 Thread hggdh
@Brad: yes, either the dbg or the dgbsym will do the trick. The point is
we need to know who called the dialog, and with what options, and only a
backtrace with symbols will shed some light here.

You can install either the dbg packages or the dbgsym one, but *NOT*
both -- they will conflict. Please also install the evolution dbg -- I
am not sure the dialog is driven by e-d-s or evo itself.

[Bug 154692] Re: Searching within Nautilus doesn't work at all

2007-12-27 Thread Ari
I run into the same problem. I didn't know Nautilus relied on tracker,
and one of the first things I did when installing gutsy was disabling
tracker daemon in System>Preferences>sessions.

I don't search that often, but obviously searches never worked in
nautilus, I was using search -name in a terminal.

I should have got a warning by nautilus that searches don't work if
tracker deamon is off.

Also I second the option to have nautilus optionally not to depend on
tracker. I don't want any PC-wide index in my desktop. I doesn't make
any sense for me (a search across 2 files in my home desktop takes 3
seconds) plus it can have security implications.

Thanks for hinting tat Places > Search still works, I hadn't noticed it.

The "top posting" options were in a, well, state of flux. when Gutsy was
released. As of current Evolution in Hardy (2.21.4), the Top Posting

[Bug 178929] Linux auto-answer receiver does not always hangup when Windows caller hangs up

2007-12-27 Thread Will
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ekiga

Hi,
I have Linux PC (Ubuntu Feisty) at home with Ekiga 2.0.3 set to Auto-Answer.
It has a Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000 connected to it via USB and it works just
fine when called from Ekiga on another Linux computer (again, Ekiga 2.0.3)

However, I was away from home and using a Windows Laptop with Ekiga
v2.0.9 on it and I called my AutoAnswer Feisty Linux PC at home to check
on the camera. (I was using Ekiga as a crude security camera.)

Anyway, I noticed that sometimes (about every 1 in 8 calls home) when I
hang up on the Windows laptop (the caller) the Feisty Linux PC (the
receiver) did NOT hang up properly, as far as I can tell. (It is
possible Ekiga had just hung, but it had not crashed and seemd OK when I
looked at top.) The symptom was that I was no longer able to call home,
it said the user was busy. Another user on another PC (a Linux PC)
confirmed that my home Linux PC was busy too.

So, via ssh, I had to remotely kill and restart Ekiga on the home Dapper
Linux PC and it was all OK again, for about another 7 calls home.

So, this is reproducible, but not every time. You need to try about 10
times I would say.

I did NOT select the option to tell it to hang up automatically after 30
seconds of inactivity, by the way.

It might be an issue with Windows Ekiga calling Linux Ekiga - an
incompatibility?
Or it might be an issue with Ekiga version 2.0.9 calling Ekiga version 2.0.3 -
an incompatibility?

Finally, there is no issue when a Linux Ekiga 2.0.3 called my home Linux
PC, when a Linux caller hangs up the auto-answer receiving Linux PC
always automatically hung up too.

Would it be possible to improve the situation with Ekiga so that when
one end of phone call hangs up (e.g. the caller), the other end (e.g.
the receiver) is Guaranteed to hang up too automatically?

Thanks.

[Bug 178935] screen stays off when opening laptop lid with screensaver on

2007-12-27 Thread Shoofy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Using the ATI Catalyst 7.12 drivers for my Mobility Radeon X1400 on a
Dell Inspiron E1505, if I close the laptop lid with the screensaver on,
or if the screensaver goes on when the lid is closed, when I open the
lid, the screen doesn't go on. It does not respond to mouse movement or
key presses. I need to do a hard reboot in order to get it back. I
assume I could ssh in and revive it, but I haven't tried.

I suspect that this is more a problem with the ATI drivers, since this
bug did not occur with the 7.11 drivers, but ATI doesn't have a way to
report it, so I figured I'd post it here.

[Bug 178956] can't kill tumbprint

2007-12-27 Thread roy547
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I loaded a CD with over 100 jpeg images. Even with selecting the list option I
couldn't kill off the browser making a mini print next to each title. I just
wanted to look at an image but this need to make these minis over road
everything else. It would be nice to kill that function.

[Bug 178949] RaLink 2500 Cardbus/mini-PCI not working

2007-12-27 Thread PetaZeta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-nettool

The network manager recognizes the RaLink interface (a network card you insert
into a slot) Some wireless networks in my environment are properly detected by
it.
It just won't connect to them (kind of enters a fruitless loop)

Using the Synaptec manager I've installed a configuration tool for
RT2500, which doesn't detect the card (tells me to check the rt2x00.conf
file).

The hardware information tool however lists the card, provides some
information (device name or manufacturer) but not all of it (for
instance: Status = Status, or Device Type = Unknown,...)

I've installed the rt-2500 source package (for Debian, it says),
apparently without errors, but nothing changes.

Thx

[Bug 178971] running synaptics package manager, lost desktops

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

roughlywhen I run synaptics package manager and switch to a
different desktop, the panel at the top of the desktop I've switched to
disapears. The desktop is not empty and still contains the package
manager. If I click on the bottom panel several times, there is some
weird effect like the wobble and desktops on a cube and i return to the
original desktop. I am not running the wobble and desktops on a cube
effect. I realise this may be a graphics issue and you do not support

[Bug 178977] usability "Eject" versus "Unmount volume"

on Gutsy Gibbon, if you remove a memory stick from USB, without doing any

the drive icon's context menu on the desktop, Computer place, or drive.

But, if you go to the context menu of the drive, there is no "Eject" -
you have to think/know about "Unmount volume"... that's linux command
line speak... not desktop gui speak!

Whether or not you agree with that, the popup and the context menu
should use the same term (and my preference would be "Eject", not
"Unmount volume"... those days are gone ;)

[Bug 132772] Re: Uninstalling compiz disables metacity

2007-12-27 Thread Jim Bray
The attached patch is simply a diff of the current (Hardy) /usr/bin/gnome-wm
and the current
Debian/unstable /usr/bin/gnome-wm. I've had to fix the Ubuntu version of
/usr/bin/gnome-wm for
some months every time a new version is installed, since it sets one's wm to
compiz whether or
not compiz exists on one's system.

The Debian version works, so the easier way is just to replace the Ubuntu
version with
the Debian version, if one has both dists on one's system.

[Bug 106621] Re: Gnome Trash doesn't show deleted files on ntfs-3g partitions

2007-12-27 Thread Aaron Whitehouse
I just deleted a file from a FAT32 partition and a couple of files from
an NTFS partition on Hardy Alpha 2, fully updated.

See the attached file - the file deleted from the FAT32 partition
(test.txt) displays if the Trash is clicked, but the icon for the trash
applet does not change and the files cannot be cleared by selecting
right-click "Empty Trash" (it is inactive). The files deleted from NTFS
have the same effect as the one deleted from the FAT32 partition, but
they do not even show when the Trash icon is clicked.

Should the description for this bug be changed to reflect that it
applies to more than just NTFS-3G, or do the problems with other
filesystems belong in separate bugs?
