You have been subscribed to a public bug: Ubuntu: 7.10 (gutsy) kernel version: 2.6.22-14-generic platform: 64bit graphic card: GeForce 7600 GS steps 2 proceed: - log in in graphics mode - switch with e.g. ALT+F1 to text mode - switch with ALT+F7 back to graphics mode You'll see a blank white screen. It's only possible 2 guess where the elements are by orientating on quick help when moving the mouse over an element. [Bug 177745] Login Window Preferences: custom welcome message does not take effect.
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Ubuntu 7.10 Gusty Gibbon, default install, all packages up-to-date at the time of this writing. Dell Inspiron 6000 Notebook, specific hardware specifications available on request but are probably irrelevant. To reproduce: On the panel which is by default on the top of the desktop, open the system menu, under "Administration", select "Login Window". Under the "Local" tab, select a custom welcome message, exit. Reboot the system. Behavior: Upon loading, gdm will continue to display the default message, "Welcome". Other configuration changes to the login window take effect as normal. To worksaround: Edit the gdm.conf-custom file: In GNOME, open a terminal and type "sudo gedit /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom". On a new line under the line reading "DefaultWelcome=false", type: "Welcome=" immediately followed by the desired welcome message. Do not surround the welcome message string in quotation marks. Etiology: The Login Window Preferences applet correctly specifies that a custom welcome message is to be used ("DefaultWelcome=false"), but does not write a "Welcome=" value to /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-config, causing gdm to continue to use the default. Other notes: The Login Window Preferences applet also does not recognize a custom welcome message manually added to /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom as described in the workaround. ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: custom gdm gdm.conf gdm.conf-custom login message preferences welcome window -- Login Window Preferences: custom welcome message does not take effect. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/177745 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 178802] getting text when logging out
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When I log out (log off user etc), I get a regular black screen with various messages for a few seconds, then it goes to GDM login screen. Ever since Ubuntu stopped showing all the startup text stuff and went to a splash screen, I think it's not necessary to show any of that anymore, so it would be nice to see that gone, too ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- getting text when logging out https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178802 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 151536] Re: Hangs on login and uses 100% cpu
Thanks, mvo and Elias, for the bug report (and, of course, we are sorry it took us that long to get to it). Unfortunately, the backtrace is incomplete -- there is a suggestion we are looping trying to acquire a lock, but no real data on who is doing that. Could you please repeat it with debug symbols for (at least) libglib and e-d-s? Question: was e-d-s already running on login (in other words, did you log out Gnome and log in again)? Does it happen when you log out, or only during login? [Bug 180017] Re: Feisty dies on login manager after screen goes to sleep
No, my wrong. Today it did it again, the night before yesterday and yesterday with what I had done was ok, but this morning it did it again. Had to Hard Reboot. Still here are the steps I did. Maybe they lower the chances somehow: System>Administration>Login Window Select Local Tab Select Style "Plain" Uncheck Background Image Then: System>Administration>Services Uncheck acpid and apmd Reboot I noticed yesterday with testing that after this if I do close my session, screen does go to sleep, but if I only lock my screen from my account (so other user could switch to their account), the screen never goes to sleep. -- Feisty dies on login manager after screen goes to sleep https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/180017 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 180412] file system usage should ignore capifs
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor On systems where the "capifs" file system is activated (for ISDN cards), gnome-system-monitor attempts to show the free space of this file system (which apparently is always 0, and it doesn't convey any useful information anyway). Instead, this file system should not be displayed at all, similar to the other "pseudo file systems" like /proc. I suppose the file system is activated by loading the capifs kernel module. [Bug 179149] Re: Hibernate doesn't work on laptop with Hardy
I will try the shortcut to get into a console window. no way of telnet/sshing into the "box" though. however, i have managed to try again and wait. at some point it did switch off, and i managed to switch on and return from hibernate. very very messy and slow, I will try again after running another update of Hardy today, and report back. Seeing as there are numerous topics about suspend/hibernate issues in the forums, I would assume that there's generally still lots of things wrong with acpi/powermanagement mechanisms in ubuntu, which I think should've been fixed 2 or 3 releases ago ;-) else nobody having those problems will seriously abandon his/her windoze partition (including me). -- Hibernate doesn't work on laptop with Hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/179149 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
