2008-02-11 Thread Iulian Udrea
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report and subsequently we are closing it and
converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the
difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise
problems you are having in the support tracker at
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are
bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 190177] Re: evolution-data-server-2.22 crashed with signal 5 in IA__g_realloc()

2008-02-11 Thread hggdh
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 179217 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/179217

Hello miked,

This bug is already assigned to the desktop-bugs group. All of us that
belong to this group will be emailed on all updates to it.

Incomplete means that we are still missing some information/data that we
consider necessary to fully identify the issue (and, as a result, move
the bug to some other status). In your case, this bug clearly looks like
a dup of bug 179217, so it was marked as such. Until otherwise shown,
you should use the original bug 179217 for all your comments (even the
above). A valgrind report would certainly help us -- mostly one that
goes up to the actual crash. By the way, please upload the valgrind
report to bug 179217, not this one.

Re. your previous remark: just upload the valgrind report, no need to
create a tarball. Launchpad should be able to easily manage large files.
Your 'tar' failed because the tarball (the archive) you were trying to
create had slashes in the name: "valgrind-logs-/usr/lib/evolution
/evolution-data-server-2.22.tar.gz". So the shell interpreted it as
being subdirectories under you current directory: it went looking for a
directory called "valgrind-logs-", under it another directory called
"usr", under it another one called "lib", etc, etc.

Your valgrind command was correct (the second time you ran it), so it
will have -- hopefully -- a clear indication of where the error is.

It seems to be that you get the error every time; if this is the case,
this is also interesting on and by itself, since the original reporter
of bug 179217 did not indicate this was the case.

On the difficulties you had: can you expand a bit more on what was
missing/incomplete/unexplained? We do try to explain it, but we are
hampered by our own bias: something may be so simple (for some of us),
that it is deemed as not needing explanations. Of course, as you point
out, a bad move... if we know where we mis-explained, we can redo/expand
it.

Finally, on when to change the status from incomplete: usually this will
be done by someone with QA access. See [1] below for the formal
definition of the bug stati. [2] should be a good reference to the work
done by the bugsquad.

[Bug 185693] Re: [Hardy] Desktop Folder reported twice changing language in automatic changing folder name

2008-02-11 Thread Sergio Zanchetta
This bug is quite serious, because it implies a bad inconsistency in
folder names.

I have a "Scrivania" folder (italian name for Desktop) but Risorse
("Places")->Scrivania ("Desktop") point to "Desktop" folder, not to

It is with the i810 driver and dual head with different sizes for the monitors
(the laptop has native 1440x900 and the CRT is a normal one using 1280x1024).
Also, using the 'blank screen' screensaver doesn't crash. And the 'flying
ubuntu' screen saver doesn't crash.
My guess would be that GL based screensavers crash. And DRI is not available
for me on this specific setup.

This is with gutsy:
ii xserver-xorg-video-i810 2:1.7.4-0ubuntu5 X.Org X server -- Intel
i8xx, i9xx display driver
ii gnome-screensaver 2.20.0-0ubuntu4.2 a screen saver and
locker
ii xscreensaver-data 4.24-5ubuntu3 data files to be shared
among screensaver frontends
ii xscreensaver-gl 4.24-5ubuntu3 GL(Mesa) screen hacks
for xscreensaver

Feel free to ask more specific information. I just don't know what else is
relevant here.
I also don't mind trying a patched .deb or installing debug packages.

[Bug 190799] Re: "additional startup programs" crash xserver

2008-02-11 Thread _tom_
Thanks for your answer.
I'm sorry, but I really think this is a grave bug and not a "support" problem.
The "Virtual" entry for the xorg.conf file is well documented and necessary
for using a dual screen configuration with xrandr (and X alone works without
problems with it).
The problem only exists in the above described configuration (kde 4.0 and
terminal are working without a problem). I've also created a new test user (so
there should not be a problem with a wrong gnome configuration) and the problem
persists.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 179217 ***

I guess maybe I don't understand, a part or two of this process relating to an
Incomplete Status.
If a bug/crash report gets marked as Incomplete Status, are we suppose to try
to change the status; if we add info-hopefully useful but maybe not ?
maybe from Incomplete to New-? for example. Should there be another choice like
(responded, answered, commented, question, help), or will it just get noticed
if we add a comment and don't change the status ?

Remember, this bug report is a duplicate. Comment here only if you think the
duplicate status is wrong.

Also does not work if i use Alt-F2 to run gucharmap.

BUT

If I compile the source myself (from the ubuntu repos) and then run the
resulting binary from either the command line or Alt-F2, everything
works.

sorry , that was not my intent, I tried to post a valgrind report as requested.
I don't know enough about the process to know if that info is helpful or not.
I'm not even sure I did the command right.
It helps when people post the command(s) they would like us to try.
I did go to the weblink and try to follow the form, but sometimes I don't know
enough of what's happening to enter it right to get output that would be
helpful. Thanks.

[Bug 190818] [NEW] rhythmbox adding songs to ipod no sound

2008-02-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have a small collection of OGG songs playing on rhythmbox, they play
just fine everywhere, but when I use rhythmbox to transfer songs to my
ipod nano 3G, they do pass after being encoded, but once I try to play
them they show the info and length of the song but does not actually
play. SOME songs do get to be playable, some don't after the conversion.

[Bug 176337] Re: Configuration of default mixer tracks is ignored

2008-02-11 Thread brian
I'm not sure about the soundcard (it's a work machine). Based on the specs
quoted on the Dell website, the type is "ADI 1983". lspci reports
"Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family)"

In the "Sound preferences" dialog I have configured "PCM" as the
"Default Mixer Track", but that setting seems to be ignored. Using the
keyboard controls adjusts the "Headphone" volume, regardless of what I
have configured as the default mixer track.

Using gnome-volume-control, I can adjust the volume for both PCM and
Front channels, the combination of which controls the volume that I
hear. When gnome-volume-contol is docked, I can control the "front
channel" volume.

[Bug 172550] Re: Can't print some emails and pictures to HP LaserJet 1200 series

2008-02-11 Thread vmagnin
I had exactly the same problem for more than one year (7.10, 7.04,
6.10...) with my HP Laserjet 1200 on parallel port. Each time I was
printing more than a simple text, the printer seemed to be saturated...
I tried several drivers but none was perfect. And the Postscript driver
was "recommended"...

I just reinstalled my printer with the hpijs driver and it seems to
work, even with big PDF files.

Thank you for this advice. I will not be forced anymore to print using
another PC.

[Bug 188688] Re: directory "file:" created at the Desktop directory

2008-02-11 Thread Martin Saturka
Right by now, I have a reproducible way for the bug:

1) I have laid a custom script "myscript.py" in the /usr/local/bin directory.
2) At my desktop I choose "Create Launcher ..." in the right-click menu.
3) I do not touch the "Type: Application" field there.
4) I write the name of the script "MyScript" into the name field.
5) I press "Browse ..." button in the command part, with "File System"
selection there, and I move/press it to the /usr/local/bin selection
where I select "myscript.py" and click "Open".
6) Finally, I click "OK" at the "Create Launcher" tool and virtually
at that moment the "file:/home/$USER/Desktop" directory
structure appears at my home folder.

5*) It has the same result when I just fill in the "/usr/local/bin/myscript.py"
path into the "Command" part of the "Create Launcher" tool, instead
of the '5)' point described above. Of course, with the subsequent '6)'
   point then.

[Bug 190872] [NEW] E-mail preview hangs and flashes on encrypted messages

2008-02-11 Thread Kristian Klette
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When clicking on an encrypted email the password dialiog pops up, I
enter the correct password, the preview window renders the email, but
flashes and locks up for a couple of minutes. Then it launches a new
password-input dialog, entering the correct password here solves the
problem.

But its really annoying when your browsing your mail. I don't want to
wait that long every time I read an encrypted email :)

The problem was that I had a *.desktop starter-file owned and only accessable

After changing the permissions so the user could read it, nautilus started

[Bug 190865] [NEW] [hardy][regression] letters cropped by 1 pixel from the top (gtk2, openoffice, qt3)

backend, with the X backend rendering is "fine" (3 screenshots of that
