[Bug 199402] Re: gnome-appearance-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_theme_get_frame_style()

2008-03-29 Thread Thomas Thurman
I believe I've found the problem, though since I can't reproduce the
crash I can't say for sure. There is a pretty glaring bug in the exact
place the stack trace shows, though. Can anyone confirm?

[Bug 208930] Re: rhythmbox crashes

2008-03-29 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 199402] Re: gnome-appearance-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_theme_get_frame_style()

2008-03-29 Thread Thomas Thurman
I am attempting to reproduce the problem. I haven't looked at the stack
traces yet.

Bug #204882 is interesting because the two pieces of theme code given
(it would have been useful to have an entire theme attached for problems
involving theme formats!) are both clearly broken: one contains
unquoted text in an XML attribute, and the other contains a seven-digit
hex triple. Presumably, then, our problem is something to do with
dealing with invalid themes. However, introducing these to a Metacity
theme at my end produces an error but no crash, which is correct
behaviour.

If someone could attach a theme which causes a crash, other than the
ones given in #204882, I would be grateful. Meanwhile I'll start
reading the stack traces.

whatever application business, not the gconf nor gconf-editor one

[Bug 187547] Re: nautilus eat memory, locks desktop

2008-03-29 Thread logus
I made some experiments with some files having top running alongside and
ready to fire `pkill nautilus`: looks like I found a testcase to
reproduce this. Make a directory, put video file in mkv container
(matroska) into it (mv file to that directory with shell) and watch for
nautilus eating memory. It looks like this: file appears in directory,
gnome-video-thumbnailer eats some cpu making its job, then movie
thumbnail appears instead of standard videotape icon, and nautilus cpu
usage begin to increase, as its memory consumption. If not killed, its
residual memory goes up to all available, then virtual memory jumps up
to 1 gib (I've got 1gib installed), everything else swaps out till
system stops responding.

Tried this on different mkv files: with Xvid, h.264 video, different
audiostreams (mp3, ac3), resolutions (nearly-vga to hdtv) -- all the
same.

[Bug 208073] Re: GDMsetup error if you try change the login window.

2008-03-29 Thread Chris Chambers
Unable to submit crash report there isn't one.
Reinstalled GDM which fixed problem here until reboot when it returns, still get
'CRITICAL: Error...' if sudo gdmsetup run from terminal.
Any amend to gdm from gdmsetup also produces a slow shutdown and 'LIBHAL
shutdown failed' error message. This corrects itself after reboot and i get a
normal shutdown.

Can accept this may be an oddity to do with this machine only and if so
apologies for submitting an bug report. But i am not certain it is.Best
Wishes Chris.

[Bug 43226] Re: Open Office Documents in "Recent Documents" Menu do not work

2008-03-29 Thread IMBJR
I am seeing this effect when I attempt to open GIMP xcf files from the
"Recent Documents" menu.

A dialog pops up and states "Could not open recently used document
"file:///home//Picutures/.xcf"

Such files open OK if opened from Nautilus or the application itself.

I've noticed that right-clicking the file reveals a MIME type of
image/x-xcf, whereas the .recently-used.xbel file has it as image/xcf
(no x-).

This was observed with Gutsy.

Re: [Bug 208365] Re: There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon (timeout?)

The error dialog appeared after I booted the Live CD, when the ubuntu
user logged in.
I suppose that's the way the data you're looking for should have been
logged to that file.
Regarding the other, painful attempts to stop/start
gnome-settings-daemon anew, no, I haven't seen a message in these cases.

I imagine that the message is issued by some too impatient ("Timeout
likely, 400 MHZ") code wanting to use the daemon and receiving no prompt
reply in the case of a slow CD-based startup.
So, beyond one missed request if that's true, the only consequence is
the "Ugly to see in a demo".

You should indeed imagine a party commenting about the slowness of CDs
while watching the long-lasting brown, blank screen, saying "ah" when a
white rectangle draws in the top left corner, and saying "oh" quite a
number of seconds later when the first sign of intelligence they receive
is an error message.

If raising a time-out can avoid that, it'll be well spent time.

[Bug 208880] [NEW] "save as" window does'nt keep size preferences

2008-03-29 Thread HellsDark
Public bug reported:

1) Ubuntu Gutsy
2) I dunno whicj package the "save as" dialog is part of..
3) When i have the "save as" window dialog, i can't see the shorcuts on the
left, so i resize the window.
4) But i have to do it EVERY time i save something..
The window does'nt keep the width of the shortcut part, and the global window
size either.
That's really annoying. I don't like to use this dialog window because of that.

I attach the capture of the window..
(See, i have a horizontal scroll on the shortcuts part everytime..)

[Bug 208879] [NEW] Weird missbehave when trying to rename an .avi while DVD creatin in brasero

2008-03-29 Thread nyékhelyi gábor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

I've inserted a blank DVD, then started to create a data DVD with brasero.
Copied a few .avi to the disk, then tried to rename one. When right-clicking on
an .avi a black widow comes up (intended to be a movie preview?!) but nothing
happens, when clicking on 'rename', the black window relaunches itself, and I'm
unable to rename the file because it steels the focus.
Renaming with a second single click when a file selected works though.

[Bug 182038] Re: Black rectangle instead of image in FF3 [Hardy]

2008-03-29 Thread samuel
Tomas, I made the screenshoot with ubuntu's "take a screenshot" feature
and then I saved at 60% quality jpeg with kolourpaint. Maybe this is
significant.

I added my equivalent info at http://www.islabinaria.com/samu/firefox-3
/#system-information

I don't know if
'''Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
EndSection'''
helps or it's meaningless. my knowledge about xorg.conf is quite poor.

How can I "switch to in-source jpeg"?

2008-03-29 Thread Nick Mitchell
In the process of mounting the windows share via command line, looks
like the mount shows up as owned by root:root. Could this be part of the
problem?

[Bug 208842] [NEW] Error on playing a video added to playlist from the youtube plugin

2008-03-29 Thread Tumi Steingrímsson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem-plugins

Totem shows the following error upon switching videos in the playlist after
having added it to the playlist from the youtube browser: "An error occurred:
ffdemux_swf: Element doesn't implement handling of this stream. Please file a
bug."
Note that this does NOT happen if you add it to the playlist by doubleclicking
a video in the youtube browser, only when right clicking it and selecting "Add
to playlist".

Relevant lines from stdout:
** Message: don't know how to handle application/x-shockwave-flash

[Bug 208837] [NEW] "Esc [ 1 8 t" Response doesn't match xterm.

2008-03-29 Thread Ralph Corderoy
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 7.10. The escape sequence "Esc [ 1 8 t" is meant to make the
terminal reply with the height and width of the current window
characters. It's handled in vte-0.16.9/src/vteseq.c, line 3865. The
output on gnome-terminal is different to the xterm from xterm-229-1.

Here's the correct, xterm, behaviour.

$ echo -n '^[[18t'; sleep 1; echo
^[[8;24;80t
$

And the gnome-terminal:

$ echo -n '^[[18t' ; sleep 1; echo
^[[24;80t
$

There should be an "8;" before the height of 24. This in theory allows
the string to be echoed back to the terminal to restore this size in the
future.

As well as xterm providing different behaviour, I've found various
references on the Internet, e.g. http://invisible-
island.net/xterm/ctlseqs/ctlseqs.html, which also suggest vte is wrong.

[Bug 208837] Re: "Esc [ 1 8 t" Response doesn't match xterm.

2008-03-29 Thread Ralph Corderoy
There are other similar faults where the response is incorrect in that
same function.

^[[13t response should be ^[[3;x;yt but is ^[[x;yt.
^[[14t response should be ^[[4;h;wt but is ^[[h;wt.
^[[19t response should be ^[[9;h;wt but is ^[[h;wt.

On a similar note, although ^[[20t is handled correctly in responding
with the icon's label, the response to ^[[21t also outputs an `L' when
it should be using a lowercase `l'. The above URL and xterm confirm
lowercase `l' for 21 is the correct behaviour.

[Bug 208828] [NEW] Nautilus folder copy fails with "Permission Denied" from SMB network share to desktop

2008-03-29 Thread Nick Mitchell
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Description:Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
Release:8.04
nautilus:
  Installed: 1:2.22.1-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1:2.22.1-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 1:2.22.1-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I recently installed a fresh version on Hardy. Before I did this, I
backed up my files to a Windows share (network appliance). After the
fresh install, I tried to copy back my files using only nautilus, got a
"Permission Denied" error when copying folders. When copying single
files, everything worked fine. Steps to repro:

1. Open "Places -> Network"
2. Click on windows share to open nautilus file browser window
3. Drag a folder from opened window to desktop
4. Note failure

[Bug 203861] Re: gnome-power-manager brightness doesn't work

2008-03-29 Thread Guido Conaldi
This is the result of pressing once Fn+Down and then pressing once Fn+Up in
hardy up-to-date on my dell m1330.
The visible effect however is going down and then up by two brightness levels.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 208817] [NEW] nautilus list view hard to use in hardy

2008-03-29 Thread Peter T Hayward
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ubuntu 8.04 (updated 28-Mar-08)

Nautilus version 1:2.22.0-0ubuntu3 (Hardy)

Was showing icon view of 'computer' and changed to list view. Expected
to see each volume in list.

Name was present, Size was -- (and stayed -- over 30 mins), Type showed
Unknown, Date Modified showed Unknown.

Tried to resize columns by dragging header boxes. Name would not drag left at
first, only right despite spare space after the longest name.
Dragging the Size column right initially caused the Name column to resize left
to minimum (as long as longest name). Dragging further right caused Size column
to increase in width to the right. Dragging Size column back reversed these
effects.
Dragging the Type column right caused the same type of effect but this time
both Name and Size were reduced to minimum before Type would extend to the
right.

The lack of information is a bug and the column resize behaviour is not
really intuitive.

I noted that the opening of properties on the File System Icon resulted in
infinite loop, I stopped at 4.5 million files.
I understand this may have been fixed by a new release.
