[Bug 199402] Re: gnome-appearance-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_theme_get_frame_style()

[Bug 208930] Re: rhythmbox crashes
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. [Bug 199402] Re: gnome-appearance-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_theme_get_frame_style()
I am attempting to reproduce the problem. I haven't looked at the stack traces yet. Bug #204882 is interesting because the two pieces of theme code given (it would have been useful to have an entire theme attached for problems involving theme formats!) are both clearly broken: one contains unquoted text in an XML attribute, and the other contains a seven-digit hex triple. Presumably, then, our problem is something to do with dealing with invalid themes. However, introducing these to a Metacity theme at my end produces an error but no crash, which is correct behaviour. If someone could attach a theme which causes a crash, other than the ones given in #204882, I would be grateful. [Bug 187547] Re: nautilus eat memory, locks desktop
I made some experiments with some files having top running alongside and ready to fire `pkill nautilus`: looks like I found a testcase to reproduce this. Make a directory, put video file in mkv container (matroska) into it (mv file to that directory with shell) and watch for nautilus eating memory. It looks like this: file appears in directory, gnome-video-thumbnailer eats some cpu making its job, then movie thumbnail appears instead of standard videotape icon, and nautilus cpu usage begin to increase, as its memory consumption. If not killed, its residual memory goes up to all available, then virtual memory jumps up to 1 gib (I've got 1gib installed), everything else swaps out till system stops responding. Tried this on different mkv files: with Xvid, h.264 video, different audiostreams (mp3, ac3), resolutions (nearly-vga to hdtv) -- all the same. -- nautilus eat memory, locks desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/187547 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

On 2008-03-29 14:49, Kjell Braden wrote : > The xsession-errors file does not contain any sign of gnome-settings- > daemon failing. Did you receive the error dialog you posted above this > time? The error dialog appeared after I booted the Live CD, when the ubuntu user logged in. I suppose that's the way the data you're looking for should have been logged to that file. Regarding the other, painful attempts to stop/start gnome-settings-daemon anew, no, I haven't seen a message in these cases. I imagine that the message is issued by some too impatient ("Timeout likely, 400 MHZ") code wanting to use the daemon and receiving no prompt reply in the case of a slow CD-based startup. So, beyond one missed request if that's true, the only consequence is the "Ugly to see in a demo". You should indeed imagine a party commenting about the slowness of CDs while watching the long-lasting brown, blank screen, saying "ah" when a white rectangle draws in the top left corner, and saying "oh" quite a number of seconds later when the first sign of intelligence they receive is an error message. [Bug 208837] [NEW] "Esc [ 1 8 t" Response doesn't match xterm.
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 7.10. The escape sequence "Esc [ 1 8 t" is meant to make the terminal reply with the height and width of the current window characters. It's handled in vte-0.16.9/src/vteseq.c, line 3865. The output on gnome-terminal is different to the xterm from xterm-229-1. Here's the correct, xterm, behaviour. $ echo -n '^[[18t'; sleep 1; echo ^[[8;24;80t $ And the gnome-terminal: $ echo -n '^[[18t' ; sleep 1; echo ^[[24;80t $ There should be an "8;" before the height of 24. This in theory allows the string to be echoed back to the terminal to restore this size in the future. As well as xterm providing different behaviour, I've found various references on the Internet, e.g. http://invisible- island.net/xterm/ctlseqs/ctlseqs.html, which also suggest vte is wrong. ** Affects: vte (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed -- "Esc [ 1 8 t" Response doesn't match xterm. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/208837 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to vte in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 208837] Re: "Esc [ 1 8 t" Response doesn't match xterm.
There are other similar faults where the response is incorrect in that same function. ^[[13t response should be ^[[3;x;yt but is ^[[x;yt. ^[[14t response should be ^[[4;h;wt but is ^[[h;wt. ^[[19t response should be ^[[9;h;wt but is ^[[h;wt. On a similar note, although ^[[20t is handled correctly in responding with the icon's label, the response to ^[[21t also outputs an `L' when it should be using a lowercase `l'. [Bug 208817] [NEW] nautilus list view hard to use in hardy
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Ubuntu 8.04 (updated 28-Mar-08) Nautilus version 1:2.22.0-0ubuntu3 (Hardy) Was showing icon view of 'computer' and changed to list view. Expected to see each volume in list. Name was present, Size was -- (and stayed -- over 30 mins), Type showed Unknown, Date Modified showed Unknown. Tried to resize columns by dragging header boxes. Name would not drag left at first, only right despite spare space after the longest name. Dragging the Size column right initially caused the Name column to resize left to minimum (as long as longest name). Dragging further right caused Size column to increase in width to the right. Dragging Size column back reversed these effects. Dragging the Type column right caused the same type of effect but this time both Name and Size were reduced to minimum before Type would extend to the right. The lack of information is a bug and the column resize behaviour is not really intuitive.
