[Bug 151536] Re: [MASTER] E-D-S hangs on login and uses 100% cpu

2008-04-26 Thread tech0007
Evolution (mail client) max out the cpu to 99% only when I reply to
emails, as it downloads the contacts from my office exchange server.
could this be it? how can i disable evolution from syncing the contacts
from the exchange server?

[Bug 199116] Re: Can not send 'Ctrl+Alt+Del'

2008-04-26 Thread mobiryder
I'm baffled by this as well. How are users going to connect to remote
machines? A good windows server (oxymoron?) will require ctrl-alt-del
to login, i'm not stuck. Will install other vnc's (tightvnc?) to get
around this. Either way for the good of ubuntu, the default vnc
mechanism should not have a fatal flaw like this. Long live Ubuntu!

[Bug 195296] Re: [gutsy] gdm (including gdmsetup) ignores or cannot access gdm.conf-custom

2008-04-26 Thread satkata
While this was still there on my Gutsy -> Hardy upgraded laptop, I noticed
another strange thing:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/221321

I am using Hardy with the german language, and after I have edited
gdm.conf-custom, I noticed, that the gui has put as values not the english, but
the german translated ones.
Then gdm always showed a gnome fallback theme. I then edited the custom file
manually and have since then no problems, I curious how long will this last. :(

I am seriously thinking of doing a fresh install, if that happens again.

[Bug 222385] [NEW] [ubuntu x86_64] gloom crashes rhythmbox/gstreamer

2008-04-26 Thread mmnz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I have a fresh install of Ubuntu Hardy (AMD 64-bit version).

Viewing gloom in rhythmbox causes either rhythmbox or gstreamer to
crash.

The error message rhythmbox prompts is as follows:
"""Unable to start visualization
Failed to link new visual effect into the GStreamer pipeline"""

The other default visualisation (Monoscope) works fine, as do projectm
visualisations.

To reproduce, in Rhythmbox 0.11.5:
1) Enable the visualisation plugin;
2) Start playing music in rhythmbox;
3) Click the visualisation icon, 'Monoscope' should display;
4) From the drop-down menu listing visualisations available, select 'Gloom';
5) Music will continue playing, but Gloom wont run, a plain black area where
the visual should be is displayed;
6) Go back to the drop-down menu and select 'Monoscope' again (this will expose
the bug). You are prompted with the above error, music stops playing and
rhythmbox becomes unresponsive. Eventually you are required to 'Force Quit'.

[Bug 38512] Re: Window close should close, not quit

2008-04-26 Thread end-user
I'm so tired of losing my random track or having to re-buffer my radio
feed because I accidentally close Rhythmbox. This happens 2-3 times a
session.

Minimizing to tray on close, honestly, should simply be the default
behaviour. It is just common sense.

Barring that, there should at least be an option in the main GUI. If
common sense isn't prevailing, at least let clear demand.

Barring THAT, there should at least be an option in gconfig. Frankly,
this isn't good enough. But it would show someone knows this is a
concern.

Barring even THAT, is a plug-in too much to ask? I mean, this has to be
one of the most requested features.

I appreciate the hard work that is put into this program. I was
disappointed to not see an option yet this time around - I know that if
it were added there would be a plethora of users who would be very
thankful, and would think kindly about the developers who took their
feedback to heart, every time they close Rhythmbox and see it go to the
tray. As it should.

[Bug 222429] [NEW] evolution can't import or send mails with Content-Type: format=flowed correctly

2008-04-26 Thread Aaron
Public bug reported:

Hi I'm using GNOME evolution 2.22.1 on ubuntu 8.04

There are two problems with 'Content-Type: format=flowed' in headers:
*If you want to import a mbox-file from eg. Thunderbird all lines are wrapped
as they are in the mbox-file. Evolution doesn't recognize whether there's a
format=flowed in the header by Content-Type.
*If you want to send flowed text you have to send html messages. There is no
comfortable way to send flowed text mails as plain text.

[Bug 222434] [NEW] drag'n'drop not work workspace switcher

2008-04-26 Thread johnjohn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

reported 4 months ago... forgotten? bug #150690

missing drag and drop functionality between the workspaces in the switcher
applet which can be added to gnome-panel. definitely a missing feature that
was available in gg. similarly with regards to the mouse wheel scroll not
working within the switcher applet. the problem with the mouse wheel scroll
working when done on the main desktop only so long as you don't encounter an
open window still applies. none are bugs per se but do represent a loss of
functionality.

3. expected outcome
 a. expected to be able to drag and drop applications between workspaces
visible in .the switcher applet on the panel.
 b. expected to switch between workspaces when mouse was placed over switcher
.applet and mouse wheel was scrolled.

4. actual outcome
 a. unable to drag and drop. if attempting to drag and drop application open in
. current(active) workspace nothing happens. if attempting to drag
from other. workspace switches to that workspace.
b nothing happens when wheel is scrolled when placed over the switcher applet.

[Bug 151536] Re: [MASTER] E-D-S hangs on login and uses 100% cpu

2008-04-26 Thread hggdh

+ On login evolution-data-server uses 100% cpu. At login evolution-alarm-
+ notify is auto-started by gnome-session; e-a-n kicks in E-D-S and, for
+ yet an unknown reason, E-D-S enters a loop. strace on E-D-S shows a
+ sequence of very fast poll() calls; a strace on e-a-n shows e-a-n
+ waiting for an event. This seems to happen on some machines, but not
+ all. It affects both Evolution users and non-users -- E-D-S is still

+ Right now we are considering this as a race very early on session
+ startup, perhaps caused by the current placement of e-a-n on the default
+ session list (with the default priority of 50). I myself still cannot
+ reproduce it, and I wonder if having a dual-CPU machine, and/or linux64,

Re: [Bug 137239] Re: compiz and metacity should behave the same way

I think that

1) gnome and/or ubuntu folks should define a standard behaviour for _basic
and very common_ actions such as a click on the window contour buttons or
the ALT+TAB keyboard shortcut. Something like "gnome window manager user
interaction policy". Thus the user does not have to unlearn its reflexes
when he changes its window manager.
This policy could be quite sparse, I don't thing it' wise to include every
little detail in it.

2) the gnome and/or ubuntu folks should set up the Metacity and Compiz
default installation to meet this specification. If some window-manager
doesn't meet it => file a bug in ubuntu launchpad or gnome bugzilla for the
window-manager package.
If Metacity and Compiz are tunable this seems "easy" (what do you think ?)

3) If Metacity and Compiz are not tunable enough to meet the specification
then the upstream developers should fix this => file a bug upstream
This may be a lot of work.

by the way, I filed this bug to submit the idea, I would perfectly
understand if it is marked "won't fix"

[Bug 202457] Re: Preferences option for Removable Drives doesnt control Removable drives

2008-04-26 Thread davosmith
I have been happily using a custom script to import my photographs from
my camera.

This is still set in "Removable drives and media preferences", but it
never runs.

I cannot find any way to set my script to run via the 'media' tab in
Nautilus, so this would not appear to be the solution.

Hello !

I'm sorry, but I thought that the bug reporting tool had joined the
stacktrace. I'm not sure that it is the same crash. Anyway, I didn't get

Thank you !

And once again, sorry for the lack of information when I sent the bug
report.

so if there is any more to do, please tell me. I also have a gnome

[Bug 221878] Re: [Hardy] annoying and useless prompts

2008-04-26 Thread David Simner
Hmmm. Yeh, I've played a little more with this, and this always
triggers the problem. So try this to reproduce the problem:

(0) have a passphrase protected RSA key pair stored in ~/.ssh/id_rsa and
~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub
(1) logout of Gnome
(2) Ctrl-Alt-1
(3) login to the terminal
(4) delete the ~/.ssh/id_rsa.keystore file
(5) Alt-7
(6) login to Gnome
(7) ssh to a box you intend to use password login with
(8) notice the unlock your key box appear even though it's not necessary

Does this help you reproduce the problem?

Based on my understanding of what's going on, the id_rsa.keystore file
contains a copy of the key's public key. The agent uses this to know if
the server supports this key. It creates this file by reading id_rsa
and hence needs to unlock it, whereas it should be able to create this
file using id_rsa.pub. Deleting this file from underneath it causes it
to re-generate it, and hence the prompts.

The reason why this was annoying is that I kept not typing my passphrase
in, because I knew I didn't want the key, and hence on every subsequent
ssh connection the same thing happens, as it struggles to generate the
id_rsa.keystore file with a copy of the public key in it.
