[Bug 158292] Re: Bottom task bar moves up an inch when I connect to external video/projector

2008-08-22 Thread Dustin Lange
I have a Dell Latitude D620 and the same problem.

After booting, the Gnome Panel is displayed at the right position (at
the bottom of the screen). It doesn't matter which screen options were
chosen, i.e., whether an external screen is connected or not - after
booting, everything usually works.

Then, after pressing the "video button" (CRT/LCD), the system
automatically detects connected external screens and uses all available
screens (notebook + monitor/projector). At the bottom of the screen, the
Gnome Panel is displayed above an empty bar, which has the same size.

The bar won't disappear. Disconnecting the external screen and pressing
the video button again don't take effect.

[Bug 210006] [NEW] Select custom icon weired behavoir

2008-08-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I right-click a desktop launcher, properties and click the Icon to
change it, I get a strange behavior on the width of the "Select custom
icon"-dialog box. When I just select ( by clicking once ) on one folder,
then change to another, and then again, and again - the width increases
for each folder switch until i reaches some kind of maximum width.

Kind of hard to describe... hope you understood...

[Bug 260540] [NEW] Wrong information about used disk space

2008-08-22 Thread Alexey Balmashnov
Public bug reported:

Intrepid, latest updates.
ii nautilus 1:2.23.90-0ubuntu1.90-0ubuntu1

It looks like nautilus does not include "hidden" dot-objects while it
calculates used disk space.

To reproduce:
1. Create an empty folder, lets say "test"
2. Pick a folder with data (lets name it "data") and copy it twice in the newly
created folder "test".
3. Rename one of the copies, so that it starts from the dot i.e. ".data"

Check the properties of "test" folder. The size reported will be half of
the size that is actually in use.

[Bug 260492] Re: Places / Home folder doesn't open Nautilus but gthumb

2008-08-22 Thread Carlos Perelló Marín
I don't remember doing such thing but taking a look to any folder
properties shows me that gthum is selected as the default application to
open it. Changing it back to nautilus fixes the problem.

If I'm the only one seeing this behaviour, I guess I did such change by
mistake...

[Bug 260537] [NEW] Make it possible to launch guest session from gdm login dialog

2008-08-22 Thread Johan Kiviniemi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Please make it possible for an administrator to allow anybody to launch
a guest session from the gdm login screen. This shouldn’t be allowed by
default, of course.

It would also make it possible for a guest to visit the computer by
herself when the screen is locked by a user: just hit “Switch user” in
the gnome-screensaver unlock dialog and then start a guest session.

[Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations

2008-08-22 Thread zman0900
I can confirm this bug as well, but I don't think it is an Ubuntu issue.
I have experienced the same things described by Tom on both Ubuntu 8.04
(upgraded from 7.10) and on Gentoo running GNOME 2.22.3. I have
numerous applets and launchers on the top right of my screen that switch
places, as well as a few on the bottom right. The thing on the top and
bottom left never move. The things that switch places only do so about
half the time, and once after I logged on and off about ten times, they
went back to where they belonged.

My setup is a 17in laptop screen running at 1680x1050 at 96dpi using the
'nvidia' driver. On both Ubuntu and Gentoo all the items on the panel
were locked, and panels were expanded.

[Bug 260488] Re: Inbox and messages disappear, downloading via pop fails

2008-08-22 Thread kbit
I thought I was clever and "mv"ed all ".index" files, appending a
".disabled" to them.

Unfortunately, though, those "disabled" file names showed up as new folders
when I started up evolution.
The Inbox did *not* come back, though.
Neither, did it come back when I deleted the ".disabled" files. So this was no
solution.

Now on startup the status bar says something roughly translated to
English as "Error in »Opening folder
mbox:/home/klaus/.evolution/mail/local#Inbox.ibex.index.disabled«."

I could not find a file where this "disabled" thing was still mentioned
(e.g. some kind of folder listing/index file), after I deleted the
.disabled files.

[Bug 148073] Re: totem plugin going fullscreen does not work (was: freezes computer)

2008-08-22 Thread won
This was happening for me most often in Miro. Seemingly randomly, it
would cause a movie played back in fullscreen to present me with a blank
screen and no keyboard / mouse response. The same thing would also
happen in Totem on DVD insertion. (Speaking of which, how does one
prevent Totem or anything from opening automatically on DVD insertion
anyway?)

Anyhow, if you've got the CompizConfig Settings Manager installed (it
appears in the menu on this Hardy Heron install as "Advanced Desktop
Effects Settings"), you can try going to the Workarounds plug-in of the
Utilities section and un-checking the "Legacy Fullscreen Support" entry.
That restored order for me, although some movies do stutter slightly
more (I think) than they would have before that was disabled. Still,
far more preferable than having to do hard restarts throughout the day.

I don't remember how I got the Advanced Desktop Effects Settings thing
enabled. It didn't come preinstalled with Hardy.

[Bug 260495] [NEW] Unable to back up wine directory with Brasero (bad handling of symlinks)

2008-08-22 Thread Adam Petaccia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Brasero handles symlinks very poorly, and I am unable to back up a wine
directory because of it. Unforunately, ~/.wine/dosdevices/z: points to
/, which causes brasero to think it has to back up EVERYTHING, including
that symlink to / which makes brasero think it has to back up EVERYTHING
including the symlink to...

To make matters worse, removing the wine directory from the project
doesn't make Brasero forget that it added it, so it still thinks I'm
backing up 500+ GB of data, and complains. Saving and relaunching fixes
this problem.

[Bug 260488] [NEW] Inbox and messages disappear, downloading via pop fails

2008-08-22 Thread kbit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution 2.22.3.1, current ubuntu hardy (Ubuntu 8.04.1, linux
2.6.24-21-generic)

I am rarely using evolution, and merely to backup my gmail emails to the
hard drive, in case something happens at google.

When I started gmail today, the Inbox was gone. (see first screen shot)
There were no other mails (Sent, etc.) either, but I doubt there were any,
ever, since I only download mails from there, not send any.

My mail folder:

~/Mail/evolution$ du -h mail/local/*
0 mail/local/Drafts
4,0Kmail/local/Drafts.cmeta
4,0Kmail/local/Drafts.ibex.index
0 mail/local/Drafts.ibex.index.data
2,1Gmail/local/Inbox
4,0Kmail/local/Inbox.cmeta
2,3Mmail/local/Inbox.ev-summary
400Kmail/local/Inbox.ev-summary-meta
3,7Mmail/local/Inbox.ibex.index
9,5Mmail/local/Inbox.ibex.index.data
0 mail/local/Outbox
4,0Kmail/local/Outbox.cmeta
4,0Kmail/local/Outbox.ibex.index
0 mail/local/Outbox.ibex.index.data
0 mail/local/Sent
4,0Kmail/local/Sent.cmeta
4,0Kmail/local/Sent.ibex.index
0 mail/local/Sent.ibex.index.data

2,1 Gigabytes Inbox. So the data is there. I have no idea where those
ibex folders come from. Is 2.22.3.1 a backport from intrepid?

Hitting the "send/receive" button results in the send/receive-window
flashing up shortly and disappearing again, right away. The status bar
gets divided into several "tabs" all telling me, downloading emails
failed.

The account is visible in the evolution account settings. (see screen
shot 2)

renaming the ~/.evolution/mail folder and creating a new one, then starting up
evolution again results in a visible Inbox, and evolution starts downloading
emails via pop from the account as it should. (see screen shot 3)
Switching mail/-folders again brings me back to the first state (no inbox, no
messages, downloading fails).

I hope you can help me find those mails again or repair the mail
folders.
