[Bug 260328] Re: Clock Preferences's location add dialog misses it's Find button

2008-08-24 Thread Thomas van der Burgt
Soemt thing I don't like about this new way is that I can't rename the location.
I live in a small village close to another village with an military airport.
With the 2.22 version I could use the data of the airport and then rename it to
my hometown. This can't be done anymore.

I also find the former way more userfriendly, it is now more difficult
to list all the locations in your country/state

[Bug 260829] [NEW] Musicbrainz upload broken

2008-08-24 Thread Eric Wick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sound-juicer

Ubuntu hardy 8.08 amd64

Sound-juicer 2.22.0

Some disks get their discinfo from freedb when sound-juicer comes up. Then
sound-juicer suggest to upload this info to musicbrainz. But then it complains
about the server settings or else, these are not configurable in the settings.
There are no infos in manpage or faq to solve this, so this is bug and not a
wishlist call.

[Bug 260855] [NEW] Enchance Image: popping up progressbar and inconsistent shrotcut key

2008-08-24 Thread bugmenot
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gthumb

Problem 1: the small popup window that shows up in the middle when doing
"Image" > "Enhance" is very annoying. It only hides the picture without
giving any important information. This prevents the user from continuing
to view the image and this lasts some painful seconds. It would be
better to show a progress bar on the below or above the picture, but
please not in the middle and not with a popup window.

Problem 2: the shortcut for "Image" > "Enhance" (CTRL+SHIFT+E) doesn't
work when viewing the image in full screen. Instead it rotates the
image.

[Bug 260857] [NEW] Bookmarks: separators, folders, search

Public bug reported:

[Bug 146946] Re: Gnome settings daemon randomly does not work

2008-08-24 Thread Dimitry Andric
Well, since set_touchpad_enabled() and other functions that were
introduced by 08_extra_touchpad_options.patch also didn't contain any
#ifdef HAVE_XINPUT sections, I thought it would be a bit overkill.

It all depends on whether the extra_touchpad_options code will be sent
upstream later. If that's the case, it should probably be cleaned up a
little more anyway. Any idea if it's going to be sent upstream?

As to the issue other people in this bug report have, when I apply my
own fix, gnome-settings-daemon does startup now, but sooner or later I
also get the dreaded "The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X
Window System error" message. :)

So back to stack-tracing again...

[Bug 72732] Re: alt-f6 doesn't reliably switch between windows within an application

2008-08-24 Thread Thomas Thurman
"Group name" is slightly incorrect: if a window's in a group, it has a
field pointing to a(nother) window's ID, and all the windows which have
that ID are in the group. The window which is pointed to is called the
"group leader" and doesn't even have to be mapped.

xwininfo doesn't know about groups, but xprop does:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ xprop|grep group
window id # of group leader: 0x241

(where I clicked on Firefox in between.)

Specs for this are at http://tronche.com/gui/x/icccm/sec-4.html --
search throughout for "group".

Hope this helps!

[Bug 21178] Re: evolution chokes when a large txt file is in attachment

2008-08-24 Thread Mario Manno
Evolution 2.22.3 will give up rendering after trying for some time and
display a warning: "Evolution cannot render this email as it is too
large to handle. You can view it unformatted or with an external text
editor."

You can create a simple test file with
   perl -e 'print "\n"x100' > /tmp/evil.txt

The upstream bug is about evolution honoring "Content-Disposition:
inline" for attachments.

There are several issues here:
* there is no option to ignore content-disposition:inline to prevent harmful
attachments from displaying automatically (#229013)
* rendering texts uses too much memory and cpu (1mb newlines => 50% ram)
* after displaying the warning evolution continues to consume memory and does
not free it until program exits

[Bug 150193] Re: Remote Login via XDMCP is not working

2008-08-24 Thread adamis
I've had this problem in Hardy as well as in the Alpha of Intrepid Ibex.
Whenever I try to connect to my file server I have no problems seeing
the file server using the remote login manager and clicking on it starts
the connection however I never get a login window to login into the file
server machine, I just get the Grey background with the "X" as a cursor.

I've looked at everything from firewalls, IVP6, I've even switched
between kdm and gdm on the file sever to see if that was the issue. I've
also walked through the guides several times to make sure that I had
everything enabled correctly.

I've had XDMCP working before but it was a very long time ago. Both
machines started out as Fiesty Fawn machines and I've upgraded them both
to Hardy Heron and now to Intrepid Ibex.

I too have similar experience, which is...

When I connect my Nokia N770 to Ubuntu Hardy and launch Rhythmbox
(0.11.5), Rhythmbox crashes. The following appears in a terminal at the
time of the crash.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ rhythmbox

(rhythmbox:6427): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_type_class_add_private:
assertion `private_size > 0' failed

(rhythmbox:6427): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_boxed_free: assertion `boxed !=
NULL' failed
Segmentation fault[/code]

If I unmount Rhythmbox, and then launch Rhythmbox , Rhythmbox starts
find and is stable.

If I launch Rhythmbox, and then plug in the Nokia N770, Rhythmbox
crashes and the following error appears in the terminal...

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ rhythmbox

(rhythmbox:6586): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_type_class_add_private:
assertion `private_size > 0' failed

(rhythmbox:6586): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_boxed_free: assertion `boxed !=
NULL' failed
Segmentation fault[/code]

The file system on the N770 is FAT15.

I will repeat with a portable MP3 player and see if it occurs with other
devices.

[Bug 72732] Re: alt-f6 doesn't reliably switch between windows within an application

2008-08-24 Thread Thomas Thurman
Oh: yes, there are other ways to tell whether the windows are from the
same application. The most immediately obvious ones are the optional
WM_CLIENT_MACHINE and _NET_WM_PID properties, which would give you the
process ID of the owning application:

http://standards.freedesktop.org/wm-spec/wm-spec-1.3.html#id2507760

Beyond that we'd be getting into window matching territory, looking at
title strings and icon bitmaps and so on.

I made a mistake. To reproduce the bug, you have to do the following:

1) open therminal and type: "gdmflexiserver --xnest localhost"
2) Set the Session to "Gnome" and login with a different user
3) Change the Workspace with "STRG + ALT + ARROW_RIGHT"
Then Xnest will crash

I tried to use a different WindowManager (i tried fluxbox) and did the
following steps:

1) open therminal and type: "gdmflexiserver --xnest localhost"
2) Set the Session to "Fluxbox" and login with a different user
3) Change the Workspace with "STRG + ALT + ARROW_RIGHT"
Then Xnest will NOT crash

[Bug 260936] [NEW] screensaver does not start if ubuntu booted on battery

2008-08-24 Thread Youssef
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

i have noticed that the screensaver does not start if the system was
booted up using battery power, it only works on a AC power bootup. I
tried meddling with the setting to no avail. Others have also observed
such behavior, it doesn't work on the lock screen in that case neither.

It appears that killing the "gnome-screensaver" process and starting it
again fixes the problem.

[Bug 260962] [NEW] Gnome Terminal won't accept lowercase 'a' key.

2008-08-24 Thread Eric M. Smith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Following updates on August 22, 2008, the Gnome Terminal will not accept
a lower case 'a' key. Capital 'A' works fine, and the lowercase 'a' is
accepted in every other application on my desktop including Tilda.

gnome-terminal is launched using the default launcher with the command
"gnome-terminal".

There are no parameters supplied to the application from the launcher.

I am using the default profile for the terminal. The only changes I
have made are:

1) Through the Appearance Preferences tool I have set the fonts to the
following:
 Application font: Sans : 7
 Document font : Sans : 7
 Desktop font : Sans : 6
Window title font : Sans Bold : 7
 Fixed width font : Monospace : 7
 Use Subpixel Smoothing.

2) I have set a custom prompt in my .bashrc of :
 PS1=\[\e]0;[EMAIL PROTECTED] \[\e[33m\]\w\[\e[0m\]\n\$

At the time the problem was noticed, the only application that had been
launched following a sucessful launch was Gnome-Terminal.

The lowercase 'a' is the only key that is not accepted by the Gnome-
Terminal.

[Bug 260988] [NEW] gvfs refuses to authenticate to webdav share after mounting

2008-08-24 Thread Stefanr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

Using Ubuntu Hardy, we cannot delete or create files or folders on our
webdav share anymore. Connecting to a Gallery2 webdav share (nautilus
dav://hostname/g2/w/) which allows anonymous reading works. When trying
to upload a photo, we expect an authorization dialog, but nautilus only
says "Authorization required", letting me skip or cancel. This works as
expected in Feisty and in some other operating system.

When we disable anonymous access to Gallery2, we can authenticate
through Nautilus at mount time and uploading works fine.

Tcpflow of a failed session shows the obvious: first a PROPFIND on the
directory, server replies 207, then a HEAD on the file gets a 401, then
the file gets put and the server replies again with a 401.

When I try to read the gvfs source code, I see in
daemon/gvfsbackenddav.c that at mount time authentication is governed by
a function called "soup_authenticate_interactive". After a successful
mount, the authentication handler gets switched to
soup_authenticate_from_data. That sounds a little suspicious to me. I am
hardly a programmer, so I have not yet gotten it to work when I play
with the handlers, but maybe someone else can.

I would have made this a duplicate of #206439, but the code between the
various backends seems a little too separate for that.

We have gvfs version 0.2.5-0ubuntu2 installed.

[Bug 240571] Re: podcast default download not correct

2008-08-24 Thread Jay Morgan
I have the same problem.

I just discovered that I can't play podcasts I have already downloaded
after closing and reopening Rhythmbox because it is defaulting to
/home/homefolder/. If I try to play them (without doubleclicking to
redownload them) it gives the error:

"Couldn't start playback Problem occurred without error being set.
This is a bug in Rhythmbox or GStreamer."

or a null error. The file isn't found because the podcast folder keeps
resetting itself. Aaaarghh! This is a dealbreaker for rhythmbox. I
set my podcasts to a shared folder where I use a chron task to keep it
world-readable, since there is no use to everyone who uses the computer
having to download the same, large mp3 files to their personal folders.
Since this doesn't work, I'm going to have to go back to banshee and
just learn to live with the incredibly slow reload times everytime you
change panes.

[Bug 240571] Re: podcast default download not correct

2008-08-24 Thread Jay Morgan
If I doubleclick the entry it will say "Waiting" because it is going out
and re-fetching the file, even though it has already been downloaded.
It simply doesn't realize it has been downloaded since it has now been
restarted and jumped back to the default folder. So now I have two
copies of the file on my hard drive, one of which Rhythmbox has
completely forgotten about.

[Bug 158259] [NEW] wide windows have messed up window decoration

2008-08-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When making windows wider than the screen width (usually twice or three
times as wide), the top window decoration is not updated correctly.

I've run into the bug only with the terminal, and only when ssh'd into
another machine using that terminal.

Steps to reproduce:

(1) Start a new terminal window
(2) ssh into an other machine
(3) start emacs on the remote machine
(4) move the window to the 95% off the left hand side of the screen, so only a
thin sliver is visible.
(5) using the window decorator, widen the window by dragging from the left hand
side of the screen to the right
(6) repeat (4) and (5) several times
(7) the window decoration at the top of the new wide window should now be
visibly corrupt

Why do I want to do this? So I can cut and paste long lines from the
emacs window onto the local machine.

cheers

[Bug 112518] Re: Switch User freezes at blank screen

2008-08-24 Thread Martin Tschäppät
This bug still appears on my system, using Ubuntu Hardy Heron in
combination with a ATI x1250 onboard GPU and the ATI restricted driver.
(Offtopic: I could not test the ATI/Envyng solution, as there I am hurt
by some kind of 'blank screen bug' in combination with compiz...)

The bug does not occur if I use the OpenSource ATI driver!

Would be interesting to know if those, who think that the bug has been
fixed, are using some NVIDIA or INTEL cards...

Again... AMD/ATI users seem to be at end of the of the queue (as
always). Can't believe that the ATI drivers are still crap after all
these years Shame on you AMD/ATI guys!!!

Sorry... but I am getting angry about these crappy drivers!!!

[Bug 158401] [NEW] Intlclock does not take keyboard focus.

2008-08-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The intlclock-applet doesn't take keyboard focus like the clock applet
does and it prevents moving through tasks with the keyboard and updating
the percent complete. As the cell still appears editable, it is
confusing when the value you type appears in another window entirely.
This is a feature regression when compared to the original clock.

In addition, I got this error: "intlclock" does not exist in Ubuntu. Please
choose a different package. If you're unsure, please select "I don't know"

[Bug 158578] [NEW] [7.10 Italian] Post-it notes applet stops gnome-sessions-daemon from starting

2008-08-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When starting Ubuntu, I had an error about gnome-sessions-daemon
unability to start. After some searches on Internet, I came to suppose
that it was related to some new applet I activated in the panel. I found
the culprit is Post-it Notes (Note Adesive in the Italian transaltion).
Deactivating it, the error disappeared

[Bug 260939] [NEW] Window list missing items on second monitor

2008-08-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Windows on my second monitor don't appear in the "Window List", although
if I add the "Window Selector" I can find them, and Alt-Tab works ok
too. This is a real nuisance, especially if I have a window minimised
as they seem to disappear. I can't find any setting to correct this,
nor anything on any forum indicating this has been seen before.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04, with ATI graphics drivers powering two
monitors, and Compiz enabled. I think the graphics drivers are set to
use "overlay" mode on the second screen, but I'm not entirely sure what
that's needed for.

It also looks like dragging windows from the second monitor to the first
causes odd effects. I have evolution mail running all the time so it's
the first program on my window list. If I drag a program from my second
monitor to the first, it can occasionally cause evolution to disappear
from the window list. I haven't been able to reliably reproduce that
yet, so I'll add more information if I ever get to that stage.

Ross

[Bug 260923] [NEW] Trigger import twice and Evolution crashes

2008-08-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When importing a single file of mail into Evolution, the last step is
starting the import. You click Import and the import starts with a
dialog that shows the process. If you click Import again, and the wizard
and button are enabled, Evolution crashes. At any rate, I think it is a
problem that it is enabled even if it wouldn't crash. What's worst, if
you go to another desk and come back, the dialog showing the progress
goes to the back and you go "Oh, I forgot to start the import..." crash!
