[Bug 274531] Re: Missing shutdown button default on panel

2008-09-25 Thread Per Kongstad
Yes, You can call it a wish, but for common users it will be seen as a
bug.

This is not a perfect setup and it is not user friendly. If Ubuntu shall
become mainstream, normally used function shall be easy to access and
not hidden on a menu.

No it is a clean Alpha 6.

[Bug 274669] [NEW] gnome power manager battery voltage

2008-09-25 Thread GodzillaNL
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

The update of the gnome-power-manager in Ubuntu Intrepid (2.24.0) causes
extreme readings on my laptop. Previous version 2.23.93 had no problem.

Gnome power manager reports my battery voltage starting from 49 v to 450
v on a full battery charge. The same problem exists when working on
battery where the power consumption is more like 80 watts than the
normal 13 watts on my laptop.

Powertop reports normal values.

Can you please test the package for your architecture found here:

The problem is nothing to do with the kernel, but the pulseaudio plugin

I'd like to add that you don't even have to do any tricks with showing

Hi
When I restart GDM I get black screen and GDM would not bring up again. After
the GDM crash I cannot switch to another shell. The only thing that helps is a

I have the same issue in Evolution from Gnome 2.24.0 in Intrepid Ibex
but a different way of producing it.

1. Click on System -> Appearance->Customize Theme->Colors
2. Change the color of "Selected Items"
3. View the color is displaying in Evolution -> Edit -> Preferences -> Mail

The resulting problem is the same as the OP but different way of
achieving it not using "Gnome Color Choose"

[Bug 274398] Re: Miro dependency problem (Intrepid alpha 6)

2008-09-25 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Ah, right. Sorry, I was reading that output the wrong way 'round :).

So, the problem is that python-gnome2-extras declares a dependency
against libgdl-gnome-1-0, which is no longer built by the gdl package.
At best, this will require a simple rebuild.

Moving to the right package.

[Bug 267403] Re: [hardy] Tree view pane does not open to the specified URI

2008-09-25 Thread Michael Lueck
 * Is this reproducible?

Yes, consistently when I launch a customized Nautilus icon the tree view
panel does not pre-open to the correct spot of the tree.

 * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

See below...

 * Could you describe how you create this launcher?

1) I have "File Browser" showing in my menu. It shows up (when enabled) in the
Applications \ Accessories area.
2) Then I right-clicked that icon and clicked "Add this launcher to Desktop"
3) I changed the name of the new icon to specify what Samba server mount point
I am going to preset it to. Ex: "server share"
4) Finally I append to the launcher command the specific dir I want it to open
to, Ex:
nautilus --no-desktop --browser %U /mnt/server/share

Like I said, the icon view on the right opens to that directory, just
the tree view does not pre-open to that level. When I click a folder in
that view (on the right) then the tree on the left immediately opens to
that correct directory as well.

Anything else?

Re: [Bug 137247] Re: libpam-keyring broken on autologins

2008-09-25 Thread Omegamormegil
I've been informed by the friendly people in the #ubuntu+1 channel on IRC
that Network Manager in Intrepid does not currently save the wireless
network keys. You have to enter them every time you start Ubuntu. I was
told it was a very common known issue which was expected to be fixed in time
for the Intrepid beta release.

[Bug 258703] Re: gnome-sound-properties cannot set sound preferences

2008-09-25 Thread Rocko
gnome-sound-properties is working properly for me now, ie the Sounds tab
is not disabled and I can select and play sounds.

But if you change one or more sounds (the theme then changes to
'Custom') and then change the theme to another (eg ubuntu or default),
it loses the custom theme along with all your new settings, which is
damned annoying.

[Bug 186390] Re: gnome-power-manager's handling of "critically low" battery power could be more user-friendly

2008-09-25 Thread Jim Rorie
I don't think this is a feature request. This is a bug. I'm looking at
the Gnome Power Manager manual it is not performing as shown.

I looked upstream and am not seeing any requests for logs. There is an
upstream bug identical to this that's over a year old.

I'm not sure the usefulness of the power manager if it can't report the
battery state. What do we need to do to get some movement on this?

[Bug 241139] Re: Intrepid Ibex: Cannot access samba share "Unable to mount location"

2008-09-25 Thread Martin G Miller
I am curious which repositories Stephen Cradock and Thomas Novin have
enabled. I did see there is something in Hardy proposed, but I don't
have that one switched on my default as I tend to get unstable results
with it. I have security, updates and backports enabled.

[Bug 241139] Re: Intrepid Ibex: Cannot access samba share "Unable to mount location"

2008-09-25 Thread Martin G Miller
Maybe it works for Vista, but it broke every smb share on my 4 - 8.04.1
1 winXP pro SP2 network today. It also broke it on my home network with
2 ubuntu 8.04.1 and 1 WinXP sp2 machine. It was working perfectly until
this morning. I have 6 Ubuntu machines and all 6 are affected.

[Bug 176755] Re: nautilus should provide more detailed error dialog when move to trash fails

2008-09-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
closing the bug, the error dialog gives the reason why the files can't
be moved to the trash, installations details are not things which should
be displayed there to the user, the administrator might have decided to
not set up trash directories and listing the technical reason why the
action is not possible would only confuse the users

[Bug 274579] [NEW] totem shows red x's instead of video

2008-09-25 Thread Brad Pitcher
Public bug reported:

I think this is a bug in gstreamer because if you can solve the problem by
running gstreamer-properties and changing the video output plugin to "X Window
System (No Xv)" instead of "Autodetect". The problem is that it comes
configured incorrectly by default and the average user isn't going to be able
to figure this out.
I'm using an Asus A6U laptop with a SIS 760 video card. SiS video cards seem
to be a patter. Several other people discuss the problem here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=531429
Screenshot here: http://img132.imageshack.us/my.php?image=errototemai5.png

I tried running totem from the command-line with the "--debug" option,
but there is no output.

I can confirm this behaviour in hardy. I don't know if it caused by
gnome menu, but sometimes the panel refuses to hide, sometimes it helps
to click/focus it and then move focus away. then the panel hides. but
sometimes it won't help. this should be fixed as this is basic optional
behaviour one would expect from all panels, docks, etc.
