[Bug 152851] Re: Media Key + Rhythmbox + Screensaver

2008-10-07 Thread Richard Laager
Sebastien, I have to disagree. This has been a continual annoyance of
mine for years on multiple operating systems. Tonight, I was working in
a remote office playing music. As I was wiring, the screensaver would
activate and I would then be unable to change the song if I didn't like
what came up.

If the downside is security concerns, then this could be made optional.
Or, I would suggest the following: In the case of the Play/Pause key,
tell the application if the key was passed through the screensaver, so
it would only honor a Pause, not a Play request. This allows one to skip
songs and Pause the music, but not start up something.

[Bug 279282] Re: preferences dialog shows wrong look in evolution

2008-10-07 Thread shortname
Steps:

1- Use gnome-color-chooser or edit your .gtkrc-2.0 to change your panel
color. For instance, put the following lines in a file named .gtkrc-2.0
in your home directory:

style gnome-color-chooser-panel
{
  bg[NORMAL] = #99
  fg[NORMAL] = #ff
}
class *Panel* style gnome-color-chooser-panel
widget *PanelWidget* style gnome-color-chooser-panel
widget *PanelApplet* style gnome-color-chooser-panel
class *Tray* style gnome-color-chooser-panel
widget *Tray* style gnome-color-chooser-panel

2- Logout and login to see the changes (depending on what theme you are
using, your panel might not change)

3- Open evolution and go to the preferences dialog. Select the third
option. It will be gray with red letters (as your panel). The rest of
the dialog is OK.

[Bug 279508] [NEW] Signature inserted above message in some cases

2008-10-07 Thread seedifferently
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When keep signature above the original message on replying is selected
in the preferences, the signature will be inserted above the message you
just typed if you switch accounts before sending (and after typing
out) your message.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Set up two accounts in evolution.
2. Set up a signature to be used for the non-default account.
3. Specify a signature of none for the default account, and the signature you
set up in step #2 to be used for the 2nd account.
4. Begin writing a new email with the default account (with a signature of
none).
5. Before hitting send, switch the from account to the account with the
signature.

On my machine the signature is inserted at the top of the message.

Thanks,
Seth

By the way, some other things use wrong colors. For instance, nm-applet
menus in the notification area are OK, but rhythmbox right-click menu in
that area has panel colors instead of menu colors. The dialog to create
a new personalized launcher has panel colors too. I know this is not
tha same bug, but see the attachment.

[Bug 43644] Re: time-admin shows different time zone when it is restarted

Thanks for reporting this bug and make ubuntu better

There is on new version of gnome-system-tools at the moment (2.22.1). I

After some investigation, this problem seems to not be in gnome-control-center
package but in tzdata one (cf details of the bug).
Please link this bug to tzdata package as well.

[Bug 279539] [NEW] gdm crashes on login when there is an error in /etc/profile

2008-10-07 Thread Shanmuhanathan T
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Ubuntu release: Intrepid Ibex (stock version of gdm in Intrepid)

When there is an error generated in /etc/profile, gdm crashes on user login
without any error.
To reproduce, source a non existent file in /etc/profile( add '.
/path/to/nowhere.sh' to the file end) and logout/login.
Expectation is that either it should login and display the error or at least,
gracefully fail displaying the error.
Not sure if the problem is there in Gutsy.

** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

I have all the Intrepid faac libs installed, so I think the error is

[Bug 279579] Re: MRO error crash when accessing the 'focus_widget' property of a file selection dialog

2008-10-07 Thread Severin Heiniger

** Attachment added: test_pygtk_crash.py
   http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18289262/test_pygtk_crash.py

** Description changed:

As a developer of LottaNZB (a PyGTK app), I recently gave our
application a try on Ubuntu Intrepid, with the latest updates applied.
The application unexpectedly crashed when opening the file selection
dialog with the following error message:

TypeError: Cannot create a consistent method resolution
order (MRO) for bases ImplementorIface, CellEditable, Editable, Buildable
  **

ERROR:/build/buildd/pygobject-2.15.3/gobject/pygobject.c:920:pygobject_new_full:
 assertion failed: (tp != NULL)
  Aborted (core dumped)

Trying to locate the problem, I dove into the code of Kiwi, the PyGTK
framework we use in our application. I finally found the line of code
which caused this issue. To my surprise it wasn't a Kiwi-specific
problem, as I was able to reproduce it with pure PyGTK code. This crash
happens whenever the developer tries to access the property
  'focus_widget' of a gtk.FileChooserDialog or a dialog that contains a
gtk.FileChooserWidget after the dialog's show() method was invoked.

This issue can only be reproduced using Intrepid, but not using Hardy,
that's why I assume that certain changes in python-gtk or python-gobject
  since Hardy cause the error.

The only way to prevent the application from crashing is to ensure that
this property isn't accessed (when using Kiwi by overwriting the
  check_focus method).

I strongly hope that this bug can be ironed out before the Intrepid
  release.

- Test cases are attached.

Re: [Bug 191889] Re: [MASTER] [WORKAROUND] Offline Mode feature fails to detect proper online state for networks that are managed outside of network manager.

2008-10-07 Thread Ryan Waldroop
I just upgraded to Intrepid and NM 0.7 works wonderfully for me. It
automatically detects my Bluetooth Pan (no more hacking around to set it up!
:-D ) and everything starts online as it should. Only problem is it is not
detected as a Mobile Broadband connection, but who cares as long as I get
proper results (i.e. - I'm recognised as online)?

IMO, Network Manager 0.7 needs to be backported to Hardy by the 8.04.2
release, if not sooner.

[Bug 200337] Re: CD/DVD burning problem in hardy

2008-10-07 Thread rster
I can understand Andy's frustration. I went through the same
aggravation several months back. This is the main reason I'm still
using Gutsy. I can also understand Sebastien's point that there are
limited resources and a ton of bugs to be fixed. All of the developers
work goes much appreciated.

But... Realistically, optical media drives have been around for over a
decade, maybe closer to two. I think the most disappointing thing is
the priority level of this bug/bugs. I find it hard to believe that
there are over ten thousand more 'important' issues than this. I would
consider this issue the same priority if a bunch of video cards, hard
drives, key boards or another major devices just stopped working on a
LTS release.

What's the point of having a nice office suite if you can't back your
work up on a CD? What's the sense of having firewire card support to
import home video if you can't put it on a DVD? What's the point of
importing photos from your camera if you can't put them on a CD to send
to family in the next time zone? What's the point of pirating movies
off the internet if you can't put them on them on a DVD? (Ok, the last
one was a joke, but you see my point).

I definitely think this issue should not have a low/none-existent
priority. I would like to upgrade from Gutsy as some point. On the
other hand, I guess there's lots of other distros out there.

My 2 cents.

2008-10-07 Thread Leon
Sorry, dx9s. I did:

sudo /etc/init.d/pulseaudio stop
killall /usr/bin/pulseaudio

and it worked. Killing all pulseaudio instanced and then doing sudo
pulseaudio did nothing.

When I startup gnome, I noticed that /usr/bin/pulseaudio is being run. I
looked into the session thing, but I can't find it there. Where's
determined where /usr/bin/pulseaudio is started as the logged in user?

[Bug 279629] [NEW] Multilayer TIFFs only show one layer.

2008-10-07 Thread Adam Buchbinder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

TIFFs generated as multilayer composites with Hugin are not displayed
properly in f-spot; only the top layer is displayed, cropped to its
dimensions.

To reproduce: Load the attached file with f-spot -v small-test.tif.

f-spot only displays the top layer, cropped to its dimensions--the image
should be around 500 pixels wide, but it displays as only the width of a
single layer. I do not know if multipage TIFFs are stored as multiple
layers; if they are, it would be inappropriate to display them as one
big image. However, if the layers are all painted on the same canvas, as
these are, they should be displayed as one large image.

The layers are visible when checked with ImageMagick, and they display
properly-overlapped in Gimp.

$ identify small-test.tif
small-test.tif[1] TIFF 107x165 107x165+393+0 DirectClass 8-bit 389.596kb

[Bug 191027] Re: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument

2008-10-07 Thread Alroger Filho
Observing all the comments, something poped up in my mind.
Might it not be GDM that is preventing Pulse to startup correctly?
See, if there is no pulseaudio running and GDM tries to make its startup sounds
(1 before login, 1 after) it will probably use ALSA, and if it locks up alsa
while pulse is starting, pulse will not be able to really start, because it
could not get a hole of the sound system.
Does that make sense to you guys?
I don't what libasound2 or anything like that might help, cause pulseaudio is
working. It just doesn't startup correctly.
And as far as I read, it should be started as the user, not root.

2008-10-07 Thread Martin Pitt
Guillaume Desmottes [2008-10-07 8:33 -]:
That's not the Ubuntu team team which is to blame but the Ekiga one.
They didn't follow the GNOME schedule as they didn't release
devloppement versions during this cycle so the needed depencies were not
packaged and Ekiga 3 was not extensively tested in Intrepid.

I humbly ask to stop this assignment of blame. There was an upstream
beta release earlier on [1]. The simple fact is that we currently have no
Ubuntu developer who owns ekiga and keeping it up to date, so it's
really not just upstream's fault.

That the release came very late is an unfortunate timing, but we
cannot expect the world to synchronize to Ubuntu's release cycle.

2008-10-07 Thread Adam Buchbinder

Confirming; this reliably happens for me with gimp 2.4.5-1ubuntu2 under
Hardy with an 'ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV100 QY [Radeon 7000/VE]'.
There isn't really a fix upstream; there's just a workaround to avoid
triggering broken video drivers (add (xor-color (color-rgb 1.0 1.0
1.0)) to ~/.gimp-2.4/gimprc) there. I'm adding a task for xserver-xorg-

[Bug 279574] [NEW] REGRESSION: clock applet no longer has a built-in list of locations, their position and related weather code

2008-10-07 Thread Ralf Nieuwenhuijsen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Steps to repeat:

 - install/run intrepid beta
 - Notice there is not a default time-zone in the clock-applet
 - Try adding your own location.
 - You have to manually specify coordinates.
 - There is no way to enter a weather location code

Expected results: (aka what happened in Hardy)

 - install Ubuntu
 - it has a default location for your language and immediately displays weather
info
 - add another location .. select one from a built-in list ..
 - automatically have weather info and coordinates

In other words:

Where did the built-in list of cities and weather-codes go?

There is no need to writte regression in big letter in the title for
every behaviour change that attitude is not constructive. The hardy
version didn't have a location by default no and the list is still there

and it will autocomplete on the list. Closing that's not a bug but just

[Bug 241984] Re: Simple line and rectangle drawing tools

2008-10-07 Thread Mikkel Kamstrup Erlandsen
The Gimp is well capable of doing this, but it is well hidden (which is
problematic of course). Click the starting point. Hold down shift, move
the mouse to the end point, and click again. Voila :-)

[Bug 279569] [NEW] Screennresolution applet no longer ask if you wan't to keep new resolution settings

2008-10-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In Hardy you got asked if you wanted to keep new settings. So if all
displays went black, you could hit escape and get back. This was very
useful with the buggy xrandr, cause my displays often get black, and now
killing x is the only solution

** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Medium
 Status: Confirmed
