[Bug 281058] Re: rarian and update-manager failed to update

2008-10-10 Thread Evgeny Kuznetsov
I confirm that rarian-compat fails to get installed during the upgrade
process. However, by removing rarian-compat package and installing
scrollkeeper instead (the seem to be interchangeable) I was able to
finish the upgrade process and get the working installation if Intrepid.
The problem is, ubuntu-desktop depends on rarian-compat and refuses to
have scrollkeeper instead, so one has to watch out: removing ubuntu-
desktop during upgrade can blow the system completely.

Once the upgrade process is finished, rarian-compat (and ubuntu-desktop)
can be installed without any problems.

why is everyone still going on about this bug? it was fixed in intrepid,
relax.

8.04 was kinda a catastrophe anyway, no ones going to use it when
intrepid comes out (unless intrepid is also a catastrophe, which is
possible. if these developers keep screwing up, im just moving to
fedora. they can start by making the bootloader not extremely ugly on
widescreen and square monitors, and stop screwing with the fast-user-
switcher-applet in intrepid [see Bug 279939 and Bug 64147])

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

happens.

At one point, I did hit a (separate) bug after clicking on 'Refuse': the
alt key was flagged as 'pressed' on the machine running vino, so that
clicking on buttons didn't work, and if I clicked on a window and moved
the mouse, it moved the entire window. It took me a few seconds to
figure out what was happening and to press alt to fix it! I've seen this
happen before but only on the remote machine, ie the one running the vnc
client: sometimes the alt key gets flagged as 'pressed' during the
session, and pressing alt fixes it.

[Bug 281310] Re: Keyboard and touchpad not working

2008-10-10 Thread Gustav Olofsson
I found a solution for the problem in duplicate bug #271138 :

sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-all

Keyboard and touchpad is now working. I'm not sure what the cause of the
problem was, but in my xorg.conf I found this:

(WW) Warning, couldn't open module evdev
(II) UnloadModule: "evdev"
(EE) Failed to load module "evdev" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) No input driver matching `evdev'
(EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed
(II) config/hal: Adding input device AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint
(II) LoadModule: "evdev"

And when I installed the package above, apt-get printed: "Selecting previously
deselected package xserver-xorg-input-evdev."
I'm not an expert on this, but it looks like "evdev" was simply missing... ?

[Bug 281521] [NEW] invalid nautilus bookmars cause seg fault in open dialog

2008-10-10 Thread Chad Aeschliman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ubuntu 8.04.1
Nautilus 2.22.5.1-0ubuntu1

If a bookmark in Nautilus becomes corrupted (example, doesn't start with
the protocol) then the open and save as dialogs in gedit, oowriter, etc.
will seg fault. This should (possibly) report a warning but not
segfault the program.

To reproduce:
1. Open Nautilus
2. Create a new bookmark to a folder
3. Go to Bookmarks->Edit Bookmarks, select the newly created bookmark, remove
the initial file:// in the location text box, and close the dialog box.
4. Open gedit, oowriter, etc. and try to open a file using the open dialog (or
try doing a save as).

I am experiencing the same problem on a Advent 4211. After doing the

not respond.

My first time trying out a Beta so just walk me through whatever

This bug occurs to me too, Hardy 32-bit updated.

The workaround is to just press Enter if the button you want to access
is Unlock. But to access the other buttons, the workaround is not so
intuitive: Tab until you get to the button, and Space.

[Bug 281440] Re: archive should order contents hierarchically

2008-10-10 Thread Kevin Hunter
Sorry for previous comment noise: totally forgot that I could just
update the description.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: file-roller

In using file-roller, I note that I'm unable to order the contents
- hierarchically and whatever-else-ically. That is, if I order by date,
- and then by hierarchy, I should see the root of a folder, then it's
- contents. If you wanted to be clever, you might make it a tree
- hierarchy that could be dynamically expanded and reduced, like the
- common paradigm of a file system. Besides, what are archive files but a
- just another file system?
+ hierarchically and whatever-else-ically. That is, if I order by
+ location (hierarchy), I should see a folder, then it's contents. If you
+ wanted to be clever, you might make it a tree hierarchy that could be
+ dynamically expanded and reduced, like the common paradigm of a file
+ system. Besides, what are archive files but a just another file system?

In the attached screenshot, the location column should help explain what
I'm talking about. I've ordered the archive by the location column, yet
I can't see any discernible order. Since the SC08-Matlab directory
contains all the other items, shouldn't it sort to the top or bottom of
  the list?

Similarly, it should be possible to order by multiple columns. Like how
you can in OO.o/Calc or MS/Excel. A user interface paradigm might be to
just stable-sort the items based on the column the user clicks. Thus,
to sort by "location, then size", I'd click on Size column, then the
  Location column.

I just tried, but the CD that gave me the read errors (not just with
gedit, I tried less and sum as well), now is giving no errors...

So, I cannot recreate the error situation right now.

I'll try it as soon as I find a good bad CD... ;-)

[Bug 279994] Re: Clock applet does not display weather until weather applet added

2008-10-10 Thread Louis Simard
* Is this reproducible?

Yes, always.

* What specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

1. Perform a fresh installation of Ubuntu 8.04.1 (Hardy) 32-bit on a computer
or virtual machine (or create a new user with a clean home directory on an
existing installation).
2. Upon arriving to the GNOME desktop, right-click the Clock applet on the top
bar and select "Preferences".
3. In the Locations tab, add any single location.
4. In the General tab, check that "Show weather" and "Show temperature" are
ticked.
5. Check that the weather does not appear in the Clock applet.
6. Right-click a free area on the top panel and select "Add to panel...", add a
Weather Report applet.
7. Check that, upon adding the Weather applet, both it and the Clock applet now
update and show the weather correctly.

The expected behavior is that step 5 shows the weather correctly.

contains all the other items, shouldn't it sort to the top or bottom of

I manually installed xserver-xorg-input and gnome, then it all started working
again.
Will probably work for others too.

[Bug 281425] Re: emulador terminal

2008-10-10 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 47134] Re: log text copy fails while filter engages

2008-10-10 Thread Hernando Torque
Attached a patch that fixes two things:

1.) If the filter is used, the selection paths refer to the child tree model
(three lines that fix this bug...), and
2.) Replaced the range selection thingy with an index list since multiple
selection != range selection.

There are still minor issues when selecting date lines (will select the
first log line of that day) but that was beyond the scope of my friday
evening fun. ;)

ATTENTION: I'm a total C newbie and a GTK newbie as well, so I'd be glad
if someone more experienced could review my changes.

[Bug 274889] Re: the new session dialog should use other icon names

2008-10-10 Thread Chris
To fix this, we can use any good name for the icons and put the
fallbacks in /data/icons directory of the source. I think we can recycle
GPM icons for this, just under a different name.

Get the GPM icons from your current installation (/usr/share/gnome-
power-manager/icons) and any good restart icon, e.g. view-refresh from
the Gnome theme and place them in data/icons in the source tree under
appropriate names in the actions context. I would opt for KDE-compatible
names (system-suspend, system-suspend-hibernate, system-restart). After
this is done, add the new icons to Makefile.am. This will install the
icons in the hicolor theme when gnome-session is installed. The last
remaining thing is to change the names in
80_new_upstream_session_dialog.patch to point to the new icons.

Icon themes can then add symlinks to old gnome-session-* names.

Re: [Bug 274740] Re: Enabling BBC plugin dramatically slows totem initialisation

2008-10-10 Thread Ron B.
well I am no expert - but all that has been done here that seems at all
relevant is the big (166 files - ) partial update that was done this
morning. The fact that I have upgraded the cpu also from amd x24200 to a
5000 doesnt make things slower either heheh.

[Bug 148084] Re: totem-like/firefox-like plugin installer for file-roller

2008-10-10 Thread Pablo Castellano
I have adapted the patch of Sergey to the latest intrepid version of
file-roller (2.24.0-0ubuntu1) :).
This is my first patch (well and it's not mine...), so someone with experience
should revise it.
The only thing that is missing in this patch2.0 is the part of the translation
to russian. I have not added it because gedit doesn't display the characters :?
By the moment, it works.

Nothing else, I'm sending it to upstream too.

2008-10-10 Thread NoOp
I've learned to live with it... but if you can give me an idea which
icon image is used I'll be happy to experiment with it and propose a
suggested alternative upstream. There seem do be quite a few
preferences-desktop-remote-desktop.png and svg's and I've not been able
(yet) to find the one used by the applet on the panel.
