[Bug 310295] Re: Totem cannot play second audio stream

2009-01-10 Thread Hebert
Hi, thanks for replying.

The only way I can think of to _actually_ reproduce this issue, it is to
upload a sample file of the movie in question.

http://tinyurl.com/7lq2cc

To reproduce it:

Download the sample file and execute it and this bug should be
reproduced (at least on the latest Jaunty)

And just like I've told before.

This issue appeared with Jaunty Alpha 2.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for reading.

[Bug 315752] [NEW] Cannot uptade command line when cwd has accentuated letters

2009-01-10 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Public bug reported:

This is using jaunty, fr_CH.UTF-8, gnome-terminal encoding : UTF8

How to reproduce :
1) open gnome-terminal
2) mkdir Téléchargements
3) cd Téléchargement
4) type a long multiline command line
5) press up arrow to fix your command line, then home to go in the beginning

What happens :
sometimes the cursor goes too much to the left (on the #), then changing
letters corrupts the command line (jumps two chars, etc.) it's even worst if
you use accentuated letters

[Bug 315273] [NEW] Nautilus CIFS mount with many files in a folder takes very long parse time

2009-01-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I've been strugling with this annoying problem long time. Nautilus has
serious issue with just parsing mounted cifs shares if they contain more
than say 1000+ files (in a folder). There is always 15+ seconds waiting
time if you hit cifs share with large amount of files, depending on
files the time is bigger just to show the content. In between, while
nautilus tries to parse them (not thumbnail preview) just show them,
system loses all mounted network resources mounted volumes on desktop
(also nautilus feature) - Show mounted volume on desktop) untill
directory listing is shown in nautilus.

I am most defenitely sure that this is nautilus issue, since I've
switched to Thunar in my Gnome this problem momentaliry disappeared, now
I am not using nautilus as my main file manager, since nautilus draws my
desktop too, I can't get rid of it completely.

Please consider this annoying bug, thank you.

[Bug 291259] Re: smb:// URI's do not work

2009-01-10 Thread Bux Markus
Ok. the above one is the dirty and quick way, which will do the job.

I have attached a schema file, which will create all needed entries
under schema an associate it with the values in /desktop/gnome/...

The schema file will only install the de, en_CA, en_GB and C localization. The
other ones i do not know. ;)
BTW: The file will install fine on any system with other languages but the
description will only be displayed in english. So maybe you can add your
description to the file bevor installing it. ;)

Download the attached file to your desktop and run the following command
in an terminal with user rights!

gconftool-2 --install-schema-file=~/Desktop/smb_handler.schemas

After that you can test the success of the installation by running the
following commands as user

1) gconftool-2 --get-schema-name /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/smb/command
This schould return /schemas/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/smb/command

2)gconftool-2 --get /schemas/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/smb/command
Typ: string
Listentyp: *invalid*
car-Typ: *invalid*
cdr-Typ: *invalid*
Vorgabewert: nautilus %s
Besitzer: gnome
Kurzbeschr.: Zu verwendendes Thema
Ausführliche Beschr.: Der Dateiname des zu verwendenden Themas.

So thats it. Start gconf-editor and verify the values.

Cyberspace19

[Bug 122043] Re: backslash+pipe key \| misbehaving on english layouts if english not primary

2009-01-10 Thread Martin Görg
I have the same problem with german (default) and US English layout.
Switching the default or putting one on top doesn't fix it. The '' and
'' keys are next to the 'y' on the German layout and they work
correctly. With the English layout that key should be the backslash, but
it is still lesser and greater. The lesser and greater keys are also on
'Shift' plus comma or period, which is correct.

Public bug reported:

On my Toshiba Satellite U300-11V when Gnome starts with a pre-existing
profile for gnome-power-manager, the battery will not charge.

To fix this I have to:
rm ~/.gnome2/gnome-power-manager
killall gnome-power-manager
Unplug the AC power and plug it back in.
Start gnome-power-manager

I am using Ubuntu 8.10 64bit with gnome-power-manager 2.24.0-0ubuntu8.1.

[Bug 248705] [NEW] evolution-exchange

2009-01-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: evolution-exchange

I am using 8.04 and for some weeks I had been able to use evolution, even with
calendar functionality.
Since an upgrade of the exchange server in our company I cannot connect to the
exchangeserver via evolution, when the server type is set to
Microsoft-Exchange. If set to imaps, it works, but I have no access the the
global catalog and calender functions.
 evolution version is 2.22.2-0ubuntu2
Starting evolution via:
 E2K_DEBUG=5 evolution
finally gives:

[Bug 307472] Re: multiload-applet-2 leaks memory

2009-01-10 Thread Derek Chen-Becker
I second Brian's request. I leave my Intrepid box running for a lng
time and right now the multiload applet is consuming 800MB (!) of
resident memory:

PID USER PR NI VIRT SWAP RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME P COMMAND

19855 derek 20 0 685m 197m 488m 9.9m S2 8.3 293:36 0

13330 derek 20 0 635m 311m 323m 34m S 23 5.5 44,33 1 firefox-bin

It's outpaced firefox, which is really saying something!

[Bug 107974] Re: Evolution will not remember exchange password

2009-01-10 Thread hyperair
I have no such issue, and I am using an Exchange account. Just because
you have issues, it doesn't mean that the entire software is buggy and
cannot be used. Please do not be so negative. Why don't you post debug
logs with environment variable E2K_DEBUG=1-5? The higher the number
the better, but keep in mind that 5 will expose your username and
password in the log. Usually level 4 should be good enough.

[Bug 107974] Re: Evolution will not remember exchange password

2009-01-10 Thread hyperair
It's also worth mentioning that it's not that Evolution doesn't remember
your password, it's that the Exchange server is blocking the first
authentication attempt, so Evolution assumes that your password may be
wrong and prompts you for it. If your password was indeed wrong, it
would be pointless to keep trying.

[Bug 315830] [NEW] Broken keyboard shortcuts on Sony Vaio VGN-NS10J/S

2009-01-10 Thread Ben James
Public bug reported:

System:

Ubuntu 8.10 (AMD64) on Sony Vaio VGN-NS10J/S.

-

uname -a:

Linux newton 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 22:15:32 UTC 2008 x86_64
GNU/Linux

-

Problem:

1) The laptop has two mute button combinations - the first is Fn+F2,
which works perfectly out-the-box; the second is a dedicated button,
which does not. I have attempted to assign this key using the GUI app.
(System | Preferences | Keyboard Shortcuts), however this lists the key
as XF86MonBrightnessDown and pressing the key acts as the name
describes - it lowers the screen brightness. It therefore seems that
there is a bug that maps these two keys to the same logical name.

2) Suspend works correctly when using the power icon (top right),
however when I assign a shortcut to suspend, again using the GUI app. as
described in (1), it does not. The key I assign is identified as
XF86Launch2 - this is the AV MODE button, normally used to switch
output device (when Windows is installed). I have verified that the AV
MODE key generates key-press events by assigning it to mute audio.

[Bug 313379] Re: Shares disappear from Nautilus weekly

2009-01-10 Thread Tom
More info please

Do you have a central server?
If so which OS; Window, Linux or other?

Does the temporary fix work?
  Open a terminal window
  su
  your password
  cd /etc/init.d
  ./networking restart
At that point can the machine suddenly see the rest of the network again?

Also can i confirm that only 1 machine at a time may suddenly start
'playing up' by not being able to access the network or ping or anything
but that while it's playing up Windows and Linux machines are still able
to access data on the machine? (or does Windows just pretend to be able
to see it but gives an error message when you actually try to access
shared data on it?)

Also confirming that all the Ubuntu machines suffer from this at some
point or other with no discernible pattern.

Aside from that all i can suggest is unlikely to help but ;-
1. Pick a problematic machine at random and ensure the cables wires are
firmly in place and not worn bare somewhere the user might brush against.
Check the network card is firmly in its slot (if the side panel comes off
easily).
2. Upgrade a machine at random to Ubuntu 8.10, or wait 3 months to try with
9.04. A dual-boot choice with 8.04 and 8.10 might be less worrying to setup.
Actually i've always had more joy with 8.04 so i seriously doubt this is the
cause.

The bug-reporting tool should be working properly again now. It was glitchy
for a few hours on the day you posted, classic timing - i've never known that
to happen before.

Good luck and hopefully a happy new year
Regards from
Tom

[Bug 293207] Re: Conversion of existing mailboxes fails silently

2009-01-10 Thread James
I too have this evolution migration problem. I backed up my settings on
a Fedora 8 x86_32 paltform and performed a bare metal install of Ubuntu
Intrepid 8.10 x86_64 on the same hardware. Started evolution, started a
restore from the backup, and it did the silent fail scenario.

Reading this report, I added the source for the ppa patches, updated my
machine and stopped the background tasks ( # evolution --force-
shutdown). Removed the .evolution directory and started evolution then
proceeded to restore the fedora.generation backup file; again it
unpacked the backup file, started converting the folders, then failed
silently.

I then opened a console window, and started evolution - again it failed,
but I got error messages:

I am creating another VM now of Intrepid x86, to see if I can restore it
to a 32bit Intrepid and then restore that file on my 64bit desktop.

If there is a solid fix for this problem, and I missed it somehow --
please advise. Otherwise, I'm in wait mode.

[Bug 313664] Re: Mahjongg wrong management of records window when finished a game

2009-01-10 Thread Igor Baldachini
I don't understand the difference from your two options.

I think the correct behavior is to ask everytime for the name of player,
by automatically filling the entry box with last name used, but
maintaining the entry box editable (the actual one as for the firsts
games, as described above).

And... excuse me for my english!

I have fixed this bug.

I dont know exactly how, because I did two things:

1) removed folder ~/.config/brasero
2) clicked on properties of dvd just before beginning the burning and
selected ~ as temp directory.

[Bug 315782] Re: Change of capitalization in filenames on FAT32

Thanks, this looks like a glib bug though. Nautilus tries to change the
filename with g_file_set_display_name_async () in both successful and
unsuccessful attempts at changing the filename (I ran it through GDB to
see), so it seems that the problem is in glib.

Re: [Bug 310268] Re: gconftool-2 crashed with signal 7

2009-01-10 Thread Hugh Harries
Pedro

I have been unable to run valgrind. I an a new Ubuntu user, coming from
Windows with no previous Linux experience. My bug report was in response to
an automated message. The problem arose when I was trying to re-install
Ubuntu after trying - unsuccessfully - to remove the entire Evolution
package which I do not expect to use. The crash resolved itself when the
reset button was pressed. Sorry I cannot make a more useful response -
except to say that I am using Ubuntu and will not go back to Windows.

Hugh

2009/1/8 Pedro Villavicencio pe...@ubuntu.com

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please try to obtain a valgrind log following the
instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind and attach the file to
the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your problem.

[Bug 296216] Re: After Upgrade from Hardy to Intrepid Compose Key No longer Functions Correctly

2009-01-10 Thread Ashley Hooper
I am also having problems with the compose key. Unlike others here, I
can't type accented characters no matter whether I press the accent
first or the letter first.

With Xserver 1.5.2 that is in Intrepid, I had to manually create the
xorg.conf file, and I copied my config from my old Hardy xorg.conf, but
it doesn't work anymore.

Here is the relevant section from my xorg.conf file - has the syntax
changed perhaps?

Section InputDevice
Identifier Generic Keyboard
Driver kbd
Option XkbRules xorg
Option XkbModel pc105
Option XkbLayout gb
Option XkbOptionscompose:lwin

[Bug 293207] Re: Conversion of existing mailboxes fails silently

2009-01-10 Thread Jerson
1 month ago I had the same problem, but last night after a clean installation
and update of Intrepid 64 bit, the migration from Hardy 64 bit of my 800 MB
emails with Evolution was perfect!. I did not use any of the workarounds to do
it. Just a simple update after installation. I guess they already fix it.
Like I said, for me the process worked nicely.
Thanks

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share

2009-01-10 Thread nukedathlonman
Yes, it most certainly does effect Debian as well.

My desktop has this problem (Ubuntu Intrepid) and I cannot connect to my
D-Link DNS-323 NAS unless I mount it manually from the command prompt.
I did try all of the suggestions here. I can see the server, I can see
the share, I get prompted for log in info, and then I see empty folder
with the message about not being able to display contents of the share.

My Laptop, running Debian Etch worked fine until I did some apt-pinning
to pull newer stuff in from Lenny Sid. I ended up needing to pull
Gnome in from Lenny. And now I'm having the same results - cant access
the smb share unless mounted via command prompt.

For now, I'm watching and trying new things as they come up - until it's
fixed I'm just using the ftp service on the DNS-323 (slightly
inconvenient, but it works)

[Bug 315898] [NEW] Print from evince with DuplexNoTumble tumbles anyways

2009-01-10 Thread Thomas Johnson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I am printing a PDF from evince to a remote printer (Brother MFC-8860DN)
that supports duplex printing. In evince's print dialog, in the Page
Setup tab, I select DuplexNoTumble, then click print. The page that
comes out of the printer is printed in DuplexTumble mode. Saving the PDF
file and then printing from lpr with the command lpr mypdf.pdf works
correctly.

[Bug 292109] Re: System - About Ubuntu incomplete after upgrade to 8.10

2009-01-10 Thread Ajay
IMHO:

I disagree with this issue marked as low priority. Given the target
audience for ubuntu, I believe such things should be some higher
priority, and scheduled for the very next available update.

Technically, this hurts nothing. My system works fine.
However, as far an OS Image / perception goes, things like these yell:
Immaturity.

[Bug 315901] [NEW] Minor Nautilus 'Sharing Options' bug

2009-01-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I think this bug may be in nautilus somewhere.

Prerequisites: Have another package manager open and in use. And not
have the packages installed that are needed for file sharing.

If you open nautilus and right click a folder. Go to 'Sharing Options'
and share the folder. If you did not have the samba packages installed
it will prompt you to download them. Because another app has a lock on
it, it will tell you something along the lines of it's busy try later.
That works as intended. When you click 'ok' nautilus assumes the
package has successfully installed. It does not check.

[Bug 285815] Re: Backlight keeps getting darker on MacBookPro

2009-01-10 Thread rydberg
Although I am happy that you are looking into this problem, I think the
patch is doing the wrong thing:

1. It is introducing more state to the desktop setup - it should be
possible to determine the right scaling automatically.

2. The scaling factor in the patch is integral - this is causing all
sorts of hysteresis problems, and is the source of the light sensor
problem in the first place, since HAL does not treat fractional percent
in the dbus interface. Continuing along that track cannot be good.

The problem with the low light sensor reading seems to have to do with
the new macbooks, starting with MBP41, via MBA11 to the MAP51. Evidently
the interface changed, since the new models report a SMC key length of
10, compared to the old 6. Most likely the applesmc_light_show() could
be fixed for those models, since the current code only reports values
for the left sensor, although two sensors are present.
