[Bug 300262] Re: evolution no longer goes offline when network disconnected.

2009-02-02 Thread Pausanias
Confirming this on a fully updated intrepid. This is a major annoyance
when using IMAP, as it takes a long time to recover (you have to
manually cancel all of the failed ping states before it tries again).

Sebastian and friends, please link to the upstream bug report before
marking this invalid.

occurs when the compositing option is enabled, there is no strange
pattern when compositing option is disabled in metacity and i
remember this happened too using compiz in Hardy Heron as i mentioned

[Bug 324700] [NEW] gnome-volume-control is missing system events sound adjustment

2009-02-02 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

In the latest gnome-media (2.25.5-0ubuntu1) in Jaunty, gnome-sound-
preferences has been merged into gnome-volume-manager. But gnome-volume-
manager is missing the adjustments for system events that were in gnome-
sound-preferences.

See attached screenshots - the one from Intrepid has 'Alerts and Sounds'
and allows the user to edit the sound files for various sounds (and to
test play the sounds). The one from Jaunty only lets you select an alert
sound (which doesn't seem to work, incidentally).

[Bug 321336] Re: gnome volume control is missing switches

2009-02-02 Thread Rocko
This looks similar to bug #320752 (gnome-volume-control is missing
sliders for PCM etc with ICH8 chipset) - maybe they should be merged?

On my gnome-volume-control, I can't access the switches for things like
'Mic as Output', 'Digital Input Source' = 'Digital Mic 1' vs 'Analog
Mic', IEC958, etc. These still appear in alsamixer, they just no longer
appear in gnome-volume-control. In the old volume control you could
select via Preferences which ones appeared in the 'switches' tab.

This is with gnome-media 2.25.5-0ubuntu1.

[Bug 324482] [NEW] laptop beeps three times on resume from hibernate even if pc speaker module is blacklisted

2009-02-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

ThinkPad T61p, Ubuntu Intrepid latest as of today.

I blacklisted the pc speaker modules in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, and
update-initramfs -u. Nevertheless, on resume from hibernate, I
experience three beeps from my laptop speakers, which really sound like
the beep from the PC speaker, but are very annoying, esp. in public.

I'm assuming this isn't my PC speaker and is instead my sound card, but
I'm unsure how to mute it, as there is no config option anywhere for
this, insofar as I can see. I don't want to blacklist the module...I
just want it to load late.

[Bug 324643] [NEW] Screen enters standby after 1 minute regardless of setting in "Screensaver Preferences" or "Power Management Preferences"

2009-02-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After applying updates a week or so ago, my screen has started to go
into standby mode after only one minute regardless of what I have the
preference set to in "Screensaver Preferences" or "Power Management
Preferences". I generally have it set to a 20-30 minute delay. Also,
apps that used to disable the screensaver (Movie Player, VMware, etc),
no longer have any effect, the screen still shuts off after 1 minute
even when watching DVDs.

I'll promptly provide any relevant log files upon request.

Thanks

2009-02-02 Thread aidave
Here is an example. However keep in mind that EVERY file I've created with
glade3 does not work.
I've only done the most basic of all tasks with it.

This is supposed to have a menu on top, status bar on bottom, and a
treeview and text view split in the middle.

But when I open it, its just a mash of crap. #$%#$(*%

It is because of frustration like this that developers give up and go to MS.

This problem has also been fixed as a side effect of the fix for LP: #322374.
However I'm not closing this bug right now as the upstream bug report is about
a different, additional approach to fix this bug independent of the solution
for #322374.

When I ran Evolution for first time after that all was well for an hour or

Status in "evolution" source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
Binary package hint: evolution

Using Evolution in Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid. I set up email to connect to
comcast account (works perfectly) and my Groupwise 7.0.3 account on a
University server.

Evolution syncs GW mail perfectly but calendar entries from my Groupwise
server show up as double, triple or even quadrupled on Evolution.

I have tried to search for solutions to problem and find little helpful.
One suggestion to change time to future and purge did not work, started to
delete the correct GW entries on the main server.

I cannot reset the Evolution calendar or resync. I have tried deleting the
calendar file calendar.ics without help. It is annoying and it seems that
Evolution is a great application that should handle this.

Any ideas? I can provide specific info needed but am not sure what is
needed.

[Bug 324579] [NEW] Wrong PDF rendering, but correct in okular

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I have a PDF that is not correctly rendered in evince (2.24.1) but it is
perfect in okular (kde 4.1.3) and pdfedit (1.4).
I think it is a evince bug since the same poppler should be shared with okular.
( obviously an interesting sample PDF :-P )

Then just say so. A simple comment saying "thanks for your update. we
will get to this bug at our earliest convenience" leaves a much cleaner
trail than simply ignoring my most recent comments.

> your attitude here doesn't help either,

Well, that's how people get when they feel they have done everything
that was requested of them and then get ignored.

Anyway. I suspect the root of this problem is that the webserver
sending the file is sending a Content-type of "text/plain" rather than
the "video/" type that it should be.

I will post an update if I can get the web server owner to fix this
problem and I can test again.

[Bug 324524] [NEW] g-p-m takes several minutes to start up, and causes X server to have high CPU usage whilst doing so

2009-02-02 Thread Max Bowsher
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I originally reported this as part of bug 307306, but it looks like it
may be a separate issue.

On g-p-m startup, Xorg has high CPU usage for about 2 and a half
minutes.

In order to debug, I turned off autostart of g-p-m in gnome-session-
properties and instead ran it manually as 'gnome-power-manager --no-
daemon --verbose' so that I could capture its logging. I am attaching
the result. Of particular relevance, note that in the logs there is a
gap of 2 minutes 26 seconds in the log timestamps at line 86 of the file
- it is during this interval that the CPU usage is occurring. If the log
output is anything to judge by, it looks like g-p-m may be blocked
waiting on Xorg during this time. Once this situation unblocks, a HUGE
quantity of various gpm_brightness_xrandr_* calls are logged.

2009-02-02 Thread aufschnittplatte
Yes, it is reproducible. 50% (Firmware Vers.1.09 Ubuntu 8.10):
- Plug in e100 player (Set to MSC/Usb mass storage mode ).
- Choose open with Rhythmbox.
- Right click on player & create new Playlist.
Result: The Playlist file ist placed in the root folder.
After moving the playlist to /Playlists on the player it works. The first
character of every entry is missing (first letter of the artist). Mp3 tags are
ok.
After reconnecting the playlist apears in banshe but is empty.

[Bug 324450] Re: Audio players freezes...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This doesn't sound like a bug in Rhythmbox specifically
but somewhere else.

Audio hardware would be helpful to tell us. Personally, I would try
uninstalling pulseaudio first. (apt-get remove pulseaudio) and see if
that helps.

[Bug 324497] [NEW] Nautilus fails at "subir" (in spanish, maybe up in english)

2009-02-02 Thread Tiparega
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When click "up" ("subir" in spanish) quickly, the navigator don't refresh
correctly, but the text path ("lugar" in spanish) do it.
It cause that if you click in a file or folder, nautilus take the text path as
actual folder and don't take the correct path.

I can reproduce it by clicking quickly at "up" ("subir").

I don't know if the names in english are the names used in the english
distro, because I have the spanish. Also for this reason my english is
so bad ;)

[Bug 259169] Re: gnome-display-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in _start()

2009-02-02 Thread Alex Mauer
For me, the crash (assuming it's the exact same one) happens when I have
my laptop (Dell Latitude D620) in a port replicator, booted with an
external monitor on the port replicator and also with the lid open.

Output of xrandr:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 2432 x 864
VGA connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm
   1360x768 59.8
   1152x864 60.0
   1024x768 60.0*
   800x60060.3
   640x48059.9
LVDS connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 303mm x
190mm
   1280x800 60.0 +
   1024x768 85.0 75.0 70.1 60.0*
   832x62474.6
   800x60085.1 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
   640x48085.0 72.8 75.0 59.9
   720x40085.0
   640x40085.1
   640x35085.1

The laptop built-in display is blank at this point. Running gnome-
display-properties will crash. If I run xrandr --output LVDS --mode
1280x800, the built-in display comes up (with the semi-expected panel
sizing problems), and running 'gnome-display-properties' will work
properly.

[Bug 324480] [NEW] Keyboard is incorrectly set up

2009-02-02 Thread Vincent
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

Ubuntu 8.10
gnome-settings-daemon version 2.24.0-0ubuntu3.3

My keyboard is configured like this in /etc/default/console-setup:
XKBMODEL="pc105"
XKBLAYOUT="fr"
XKBVARIANT="oss"
XKBOPTIONS="lv3:alt_switch"

I use the evdev keyboard driver, no particular customization in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf

After I have logged into my Gnome session, the alt keys stop working. xev
reports the right values for those keys (ISO_Level3_Shift), but when I make a
combination to get the 3rd character on the key I get the 'normal' one instead.
Although the gnome-keyboard-properties applet also shows the right values, I
have to tick and untick an another option in order to (reload the keyboard
configuration, I guess, and) make them work again.
In gdm, when entering my user name, the alt keys work properly. If I untick the
"/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/keyboard/active" key in the gconf editor,
unlog and log in again, then they also work properly.

I tried to modify the oss variant to directly include alt_switch (adding
the line "include "level3(alt_switch)"") instead of using the XKBOPTIONS
variable, but the result is the same.

I am happy to keep the keyboard plug-in of gnome-settings-daemon
deactivated, as I am confident enough to customize my keyboard using
console-setup. However, I am not sure this doesn't have any side effect
that I haven't noticed yet, plus ideally it should remain transparent
and not do anything if I haven't used gnome-keyboard-properties to
customize my keyboard layout.

Please ask if any other detail is needed.
Thanks for this great distribution!

[Bug 282739] Re: Changing Resolution in Monitor Resolution Settings has no effect

2009-02-02 Thread Richard Rickwood
I ran gnome-settings-daemon, no output appeared, but no error either.
I then ran gnome-display-properties, select a new resolution, clicked Apply, an
nothing appeared to happen. I exited and then re-ran gnome-display-properties,
and the current resolution (not the newly selected one) was showing again. It's
just like it does nothing. There's no message from the command line.

Is there a way to get some debug output from gnome-display-properties?

Thanks.
