[Bug 187848] Re: volume control/mixer interface unusable
Adding insult to injury, the big friendly Help button in the lower left corner of gnome-volume-control brings up a friendly "Unable to load page" -- "The requested URI "ghelp:///gnome-volume-control" is invalid" error message. [Bug 187848] Re: volume control/mixer interface unusable
Isn't the applet you are referring to called gnome-volume-control (as of Intrepid, in package gnome-media)? That's the applet I get when I right-click on the speaker in the top menu bar and select "open volume control" from the menu. Here's a screenshot of gnome-alsamixer: http://dollarunderscore.wordpress.com/2007/05/29/gnome-alsa-mixer/ -- it's fairly similar, but not identical to gnome-volume-control. I concur that this is a serious usability problem which should definitely be fixed. ** Also affects: gnome-media (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- volume control/mixer interface unusable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/187848 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-media in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 306310] Re: Resume (from memory) goes back to sleep automatically
As of today's Jaunty updates, I'm getting one additional suspend cycle, and after coming back from suspend I experienced this behaviour which I'm assuming is related: After pressing Fn a second time to wake up, I got the gnome screen lock dialog. I tried to type into it but I didn't see anything when I pressed keys. Ctrl-Alt-F1 to switch to a text console didn't work. However, the mouse did still respond, and I could click Cancel to remove the dialog. When I clicked the mouse, it came back, and I still couldn't type. I then pressed Switch user, and got a login screen which _did_ respond to keyboard input. I typed in my username and password, and it returned me to my original desktop. However, the keyboard is still not working in any application. By sshing in I can see there is a traceback (not an oops?) in the kernel log, see attached. ** Attachment added: "dmesg" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/21971282/dmesg -- Resume (from memory) goes back to sleep automatically https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/306310 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 325163] [NEW] clock applet can't set timezone for new location
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel This is the same as https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/271144, but that bug has been converted into a question, and I feel that the the clock applet's error handling behaviour should be improved so anyone can easily identify and correct the problem, so I think it's a bug. To reproduce it: 1. Configure multiple locations in the clock applet with different timezones. 2. Click on the clock applet. 3. Move the pointer to a location with a timezone that is different from your currently set timezone. 4. Click on the set button that appears. The error message I get is the rather incomprehensible message "Failed to set the system timezone: Launch helper exited with unknown return code 1". After reading bug #271144, I checked auth.log: dbus-daemon: Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.42" (uid=1000 pid=4857 comm="gnome-panel ") interface="org.gnome.ClockApplet.Mechanism" member="SetTimezone" error name="(unset)" requested_reply=0 destination="org.gnome.ClockApplet.Mechanism" (uid=0 pid=1939 comm="/usr/lib/gnome-panel/gnome-clock-applet-mechanism ")) I don't know what has removed permissions for the clock (I haven't adjusted any permissions since installing Jaunty) to change the timezone. The behaviour I would hope for is: a) The clock applet informs you that it does not have permission to change the timezone. b) It opens the authorizations dialog to the correct location so you can authorize the change. c) If you authorize the change, it changes the timezone as requested. Even if the clock applet were not to do steps b) and c), it should at the very least tell you how to fix the problem. I can confirm this behavior on the latest Jaunty updates (Feb 3, 2009). I wonder if this is related to the poor sound quality I experienced with the login sound after I logged back in. I would guess that the problem originates in gnome-utils which was upgraded today, so I will file this bug under that package. ** Changed in: gnome-utils (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: None => gnome-utils Importance: Undecided => Medium Status: New => Confirmed -- Jaunty: Ubutnu now has both gnome volume and pulse sound on the panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/324807 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-utils in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 223060] Re: doesn't send some keys to the remote computer
I'm having odd behavior with 2.24.2. I've tried setting the gconf pref both ways and it appears to have no effect -- the menu keys and the shortcuts all get swallowed by vinagre and not passed on. However, if I work in full screen mode, my problems are solved -- vinagre doesn't intercept a thing (in fact, I can only get out of full screen mode by using the mouse, since F11 is passed onto the host and not swallowed by vinagre for toggling fullscreen). Is this the design? [Bug 325058] Re: Connect to server dialog (webdav) gives HTTP error
I can confirm this. What's happening when you are connecting to webdav share using "Connect to server" dialog is that the path /folder is sent to the server. Re: [Bug 324226] Re: cant copy to new ipod
ill try and be more clear... if you have a *completely new* ipod shuffle... rhythymbox will not copy files to it. once i synced it with songbird it became "initialized" and i was able to add songs to it... the second problem is that once the songs are loaded the ipod does not recognise or play them! you have to either run the python script to re-ord the database or create a playlist on the device and copy all the files to it. these problems still exist and should not be closed. c. [Bug 261084] Re: Suspends again right after resume
confirm the bug on Thinkpad x200 and x61s, both machines behave the same way on intrepid 8.10 (all latest). when i press Fn+F4 suspend happens, but on the next resume machine suspends again. INTERESTING - if Transmission (bittorrent) is running g-p-m shows two messages about "policy preventing suspend" LOOKS like acpid and g-p-m are both catching the same events. HOWEVER, I was digging into the problem, and here are my findings: 1. running acpid in debug shows only one ACPI event and only one run of /etc/acpi/sleepbtn.sh --- acpid: received event "ibm/hotkey HKEY 0080 1004" acpid: rule from 5589[0:0] matched acpid: notifying client 5589[0:0] acpid: rule from 5509[111:123] matched acpid: notifying client 5509[111:123] acpid: rule from /etc/acpi/events/ibm-sleepbtn matched acpid: executing action "/etc/acpi/sleepbtn.sh" BEGIN HANDLER MESSAGES END HANDLER MESSAGES --- 2. g-p-m in verbose mode shows _twice_ "Button press event type=sleep" --- TI:22:30:55 TH:0x91ad640FI:gpm-button.c FN:hal_device_condition_cb,430 - condition=ButtonPressed, details=sleep TI:22:30:55 TH:0x91ad640FI:gpm-button.c FN:emit_button_pressed,374 - emitting button-pressed : sleep TI:22:30:55 TH:0x91ad640FI:gpm-manager.c FN:button_pressed_cb,1020 - Button press event type=sleep [snip] - Button press event type=sleep TI:22:31:11 TH:0x91ad640FI:gpm-backlight.c FN:gpm_backlight_button_pressed_cb,536 - Button press event type=sleep TI:22:31:11 TH:0x91ad640FI:gpm-info.c FN:button_pressed_cb,679 - Button press event type=sleep TI:22:31:11 TH:0x91ad640FI:gpm-button.c FN:gpm_button_filter_x_events,122 3. when acpid triggers sleepbtn.sh it sends 'acpi_fakekey $KEY_SLEEP' . in my system $KEY_SLEEP has code 142 and if i do manually 'sudo acpi_fakekey 142' my system suspends and resumes correctly. 4. if i stop acpid with 'sudo /etc/init.d/acpid stop' and then suspend it also works correctly. THE QUESTION IS why g-p-m works correctly without acpid ? If that is intended why both are running doubling like this the events? My fix for now is just to comment out "acpi_fakekey $KEY_SLEEP" in /etc/acpi/sleepbtn.sh: --- test -f /usr/share/acpi-support/key-constants || exit 0 . /usr/share/acpi-support/key-constants # acpi_fakekey $KEY_SLEEP --- -- Suspends again right after resume https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/261084 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 324321] Re: [Intrepid]: screen not locked after resume
hyperair, thanks for responding. As you suggested, I tried using a "fresh" user - but nothing changed. I than found bug #42052, a very old bug, which seems to be still alive in Intrepid - at least for xfce-users. Citing from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power- manager/+bug/42052 Jarno Suni wrote on 2008-12-16: ... In Xfce4: Additionally choose Power Management in Screensaver preferences and choose a way to suspend/hibernate. You can not use the "Ask me" option in Power Management preferences like above (or you can, but it doesn't lock screen when you resume). Then use that way to suspend/hibernate. In summary: whenever you suspend/hibernate using the Quit dialog, screen will not be locked. So from my point of view this is true. So for the time being adding a script to /etc/pm/sleep.d is at least a solution for a real problem. It works for me and my data is safe now. If you give me further hints how to debug I'd really like to help to find the root cause though ! I solved my problem by moving them out. compare also with a recent report at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=482814 and the corresponding CVE. -- totem crashes immediately https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/323235 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 321594] Re: f-spot crashes when connecting to gallery
I don't think so. When I access the /gallery_remote2.php page in the browser it opens without asking for any password. I didn't mention it before, but the gallery is based on the Drupal module image_pub which is supposed to be compatible with Gallery Remote.
