I can reproduce this in a Virtualbox VM. A snapshot from yesterday worked fine, but after doing today's updates I too get the error message: "the greeter seems to be broken ... try again". I'm wondering if this is happening to all people who update, or just those using Virtualbox. Marking this as Confirmed, seeing as that's three reports now. [Bug 315035] [NEW] Windows shares cannot be seen via 'Places >Network' in 8.04 and 8.10
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have 3 machines on my network of which 2 were running 7.10 Gutsy and one running Windows XP Pro. With Samba installed and configured on the Ubuntu machines it was possible using 'Places > Network' to see the shares on both the other Ubuntu and the Windows machine. Both Ubuntu machines were then upgraded to 8.04 Hardy and since the upgrade I can only see the shares on the other Ubuntu machine with this method, I cannot see the shares on the XP machine. However if I click 'Places' then 'Connect to Server' and enter the full share name for the Windows computer e.g. 'XPmachine/shareddocs' then enter the password for the Windows machine and click 'Connect' the Windows shares appear mounted on the desktop and I then have full read/write access. This is, however, relatively inconvenient. I subsequently added a fourth machine to the network and installed Intrepid 8.10 on it just for test purposes and I can confirm that this machine had the same problem as the Hardy machines. Then I installed Gutsy on it again just to make sure that I could see the Windows shares via 'Places > Network', which I can. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Windows shares cannot be seen via 'Places >Network' in 8.04 and 8.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315035 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 331704] [NEW] gnome-panel hangs w/ 100%CPU when running Gimp, Inkscape
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel I have an Alienware laptop w/"Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T7200 @ 2.00GHz" proc running Hardy Heron 8.04.2, Linux voodoo 2.6.24-23-generic #1 SMP Thu Feb 5 14:30:38 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux. Sometimes gnome-panel pegs a CPU at 100% and is unresponsive until being killed and (automatically) restarted. This occurs most often when I'm using Gimp or Inkscape, although I believe I've seen it at other times. [Bug 261105] Re: Add brasero launcher also in Accessories (Utility) submenu
comment from upstream: "Since brasero inclusion in GNOME, things have changed; Brasero now supports all you describe above but not through desktop files but through other applications (totem for video, nautilus for data, audio with banshee and hopefully one day with rhythmbox provided the pending patch is accepted, ...); there are other applications like gthumb, f-spot, eog maybe that could benefit from an integration with brasero (I need to work on that during next developement cycle). There remain only one desktop file for brasero itself and all more advanced operations it provides. So since the plans for the future is to expose more of brasero's features through other applications (which is more or less the above proposition), I think this bug has become obsolete. Thanks for the propositions though. It indeed made sense (and still does) to "split" brasero's functionalities and expose them differently, not in a single window. I just don't think more desktop files is the solution. [Bug 204567] Re: downloads should go to $HOME/Downloads : XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR should be set to "$HOME/Downloads"
I agree with this. It's a usability bug, so I change the status to low. [Bug 329028] Re: gnome-keybinding-properties: Cannot edit examples for custom keybindings
Seems to be two issues: 1. Every custom shortcut that's disabled will fail to parse as valid binding in gsd-keybindings-manager.c and therefor throw this warning (to reproduce add a shortcut, restart GDM, look in ~/.xsession-errors). 2. The command of a custom shortcut can't be changed - it's not limited to those three at-shortcuts (to reproduce add a shortcut, close gnome- keybinding-properties, reopen, edit the command field of the added shortcut, close gnome-keybinding-properties, reopen - initial command is there again). -- gnome-keybinding-properties: Cannot edit examples for custom keybindings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/329028 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 329650] Re: Auto mounted CD should always have an "Explore" option. Right click menu should also have a "Properties" item.
Sorry I realise English may not be your first language but what exactly are you referring to ? If you're referring to the Naulius "Edit" > "Preferences", "Media" tabs "Browse media when inserted" checkbox this is not the same thing at all. That will browse the media upon insertion *only*. I would simply like the drop down that appears in the GNOME panel when removable media is inserted to always have an "Explore" item regardless of the media type. If a removable device has a file system on it I always want the option of browsing it. This is currently either unavailable on my system or the option to display it is not obvious and I therefore stand by my opinion that not having a "Browse" item in the drop down menu makes GNOME functionally inferior to Microsofts Windows Explorer. -- Auto mounted CD should always have an "Explore" option. [Bug 204413] Re: nautilus memory leak
I have a similar problem. After some normal use, nautilus eats up 300MB RAM, with the only remedy being restarting nautilus. I have opened no folder containing videos, so it isn't the video thumbnailer, however, there are lots of pdfs which get thumbnailed. This problem only appeared recently for me. I'm not sure it is related, but I've started using compiz at about the same time. I don't remember seeing this bug when I used metacity.
