[Bug 331674] Re: GDM fails to load after the install of last updates in jaunty 9.04

2009-02-19 Thread Andy Ferguson
I can reproduce this in a Virtualbox VM. A snapshot from yesterday
worked fine, but after doing today's updates I too get the error
message: "the greeter seems to be broken ... try again".

I'm wondering if this is happening to all people who update, or just
those using Virtualbox.

Marking this as Confirmed, seeing as that's three reports now.

Regards,

Andy

[Bug 329028] Re: gnome-keybinding-properties: Cannot edit examples for custom keybindings

2009-02-19 Thread Hernando Torque
Reproducible with today's live CD.

1. Open System > Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts.
2. Under "Custom Shortcuts" there are three disabled shortcuts (just called
"binding").
3. Change the command of one of the three entries, close "Keyboard Shortcuts",
reopen.
4. The initial command will be there again.

~/.xsession-errors shows related warnings:

[Bug 327668] Re: gnome-appearance-properties crashed after login on 8.10->9.04a4 upgrade

2009-02-19 Thread Kimr1508
Thanks for your reply.

I was just going to write some updates to my previous notes.

Some days ago I reinstalled Ubuntu 8.10 and most of the programs I had
installed.

A few moments ago I upgraded to alpha 4 again, and I have not received
the error like I did the first time, I tried to upgrade to alpha 4.

I guess there has come a lot of updates the last 10 days.

I'll keep the valgrind link, if I ever experience the problem again.

not been able to reproduce the problem the second time around.

[Bug 315035] [NEW] Windows shares cannot be seen via 'Places >Network' in 8.04 and 8.10

2009-02-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have 3 machines on my network of which 2 were running 7.10 Gutsy and
one running Windows XP Pro. With Samba installed and configured on the
Ubuntu machines it was possible using 'Places > Network' to see the
shares on both the other Ubuntu and the Windows machine.

Both Ubuntu machines were then upgraded to 8.04 Hardy and since the
upgrade I can only see the shares on the other Ubuntu machine with this
method, I cannot see the shares on the XP machine.

However if I click 'Places' then 'Connect to Server' and enter the full
share name for the Windows computer e.g. 'XPmachine/shareddocs' then
enter the password for the Windows machine and click 'Connect' the
Windows shares appear mounted on the desktop and I then have full
read/write access. This is, however, relatively inconvenient.

I subsequently added a fourth machine to the network and installed
Intrepid 8.10 on it just for test purposes and I can confirm that this
machine had the same problem as the Hardy machines. Then I installed
Gutsy on it again just to make sure that I could see the Windows shares
via 'Places > Network', which I can.

[Bug 331704] [NEW] gnome-panel hangs w/ 100%CPU when running Gimp, Inkscape

2009-02-19 Thread Dave M.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I have an Alienware laptop w/"Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T7200 @ 2.00GHz"
proc running Hardy Heron 8.04.2, Linux voodoo 2.6.24-23-generic #1 SMP
Thu Feb 5 14:30:38 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux. Sometimes gnome-panel
pegs a CPU at 100% and is unresponsive until being killed and
(automatically) restarted. This occurs most often when I'm using Gimp
or Inkscape, although I believe I've seen it at other times. If I leave
gimp / inkscape running during a kill/restart cycle, sometimes gnome-
panel enters the same state immediately on restart. This may be related
to bug#92293.

I can try to acquire an strace of gnome-panel if that will be of use.

[Bug 261105] Re: Add brasero launcher also in Accessories (Utility) submenu

2009-02-19 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
comment from upstream:

"Since brasero inclusion in GNOME, things have changed; Brasero now supports all
you describe above but not through desktop files but through other applications
(totem for video, nautilus for data, audio with banshee and hopefully one day
with rhythmbox provided the pending patch is accepted, ...); there are other
applications like gthumb, f-spot, eog maybe that could benefit from an
integration with brasero (I need to work on that during next developement
cycle).
There remain only one desktop file for brasero itself and all more advanced
operations it provides.
So since the plans for the future is to expose more of brasero's features
through other applications (which is more or less the above proposition), I
think this bug has become obsolete.
Thanks for the propositions though. It indeed made sense (and still does) to
"split" brasero's functionalities and expose them differently, not in a single
window. I just don't think more desktop files is the solution.

[Bug 329146] Re: nautilus unable to start on login

2009-02-19 Thread arand
However, it seems I only have 181 instances mentioning brasero in all
message logs (# cat /var/log/messages* | grep -c brasero # ) And at an
average rate of more than 1 new nautilus instance per second I'm
guessing that it is only a relative few of the instances which segfaults
(if all segfaulted I'd have well over 3000 from a single 1h test

[Bug 331728] [NEW] MTP with palm centro: Problems for Titles containing colons

2009-02-19 Thread Wolfgang Ratzka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox 0.11.5 on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS:

Transfering files from rhythmbox to palm centro (with pocket tunes 5.0) fails
silently with those files where the title (ID3-tag) contains ":" .
The problem seems to be that the generated file name is constructed from the
title tag without sanitizing the colon, and the colon is an illegal character
in VFAT file names.
Is this a pocket tunes problem or a rhythmbox problem?

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
Date: Thu Feb 19 20:19:42 2009
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.04
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/rhythmbox
Package: rhythmbox 0.11.5-0ubuntu8

[Bug 290394] Re: Vinagre can not connect to ipv6 address, only resolving hostnames

2009-02-19 Thread Jonh Wendell
I just fixed this. Changelog entry:

2009-02-19 Jonh Wendell

* src/vinagre-connection.c,
* src/vinagre-tab.c: Allow IPv6 address in command line as well in
the connection dialog. The address must be enclosed by square braces,
for instance: [::a:b:c:d]. This is the same syntax used by RealVNC.
Closes Ubuntu #290394. The command line help and man page should be
updated to reflect this, though.

Emilio, could you update the man page? Thanks.

[Bug 329028] Re: gnome-keybinding-properties: Cannot edit examples for custom keybindings

2009-02-19 Thread Hernando Torque
Seems to be two issues:

1. Every custom shortcut that's disabled will fail to parse as valid
binding in gsd-keybindings-manager.c and therefor throw this warning (to
reproduce add a shortcut, restart GDM, look in ~/.xsession-errors).

2. The command of a custom shortcut can't be changed - it's not limited
to those three at-shortcuts (to reproduce add a shortcut, close gnome-
keybinding-properties, reopen, edit the command field of the added
shortcut, close gnome-keybinding-properties, reopen - initial command is
there again).

[Bug 331775] [NEW] Cannot save as when to rights to write over original file

2009-02-19 Thread Matej Vitasek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Steps to reproduce:

1) open a file you don't have rights to save to in gedit
2) do some editing
3) try to save - error box, you cannot save to this file - as expected
4) try to Save As in menu - item disabled, cannot save as.

This illogical, I should be at least able to save the file with my

[Bug 329650] Re: Auto mounted CD should always have an "Explore" option. Right click menu should also have a "Properties" item.

2009-02-19 Thread Raptor Ramjet
Sorry I realise English may not be your first language but what exactly
are you referring to ?

If you're referring to the Naulius "Edit" > "Preferences", "Media" tabs
"Browse media when inserted" checkbox this is not the same thing at all.
That will browse the media upon insertion *only*.

I would simply like the drop down that appears in the GNOME panel when
removable media is inserted to always have an "Explore" item regardless
of the media type. If a removable device has a file system on it I
always want the option of browsing it.

This is currently either unavailable on my system or the option to
display it is not obvious and I therefore stand by my opinion that not
having a "Browse" item in the drop down menu makes GNOME functionally
inferior to Microsofts Windows Explorer.

[Bug 204413] Re: nautilus memory leak

2009-02-19 Thread Vianney le Clément
I have a similar problem. After some normal use, nautilus eats up 300MB
RAM, with the only remedy being restarting nautilus. I have opened no
folder containing videos, so it isn't the video thumbnailer, however,
there are lots of pdfs which get thumbnailed.

This problem only appeared recently for me. I'm not sure it is related,
but I've started using compiz at about the same time. I don't remember
seeing this bug when I used metacity. It may be a path to explore
(however, I don't have time for it right now).

restart XServer. I'm using Jaunty for amd64.
