[Bug 336150] [NEW] Unable to input Unicode with Ctrl-Shift-U after upgrading to jaunty

2009-03-01 Thread Johan Kiviniemi
Public bug reported:

It used to be possible to input Unicode characters by typing Ctrl-
Shift-U, the hexadecimal Unicode codepoint and a space/enter in Gtk
programs.

For instance, to input π one could type Ctrl-Shift-U, 03C0, enter.

It seems Ctrl-Shift-U is now passed to the application itself to handle.

[Bug 336164] [NEW] 2 entries in Nautilus context menu for burning an ISO file

2009-03-01 Thread antistress
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

With Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty, user can find 2 different entries in Nautilus context
menu for burning when pointing an ISO file.
Really confusing : Nautilus should show up only 1 entry.

i've read that with GNOME 2.26, Brasero handles all the burning stuff
therefore i think that bug is about Brasero plugin

[Bug 336174] [NEW] Evince gives no hint while processing a complex print

2009-03-01 Thread Tobias Klug
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

When printing a large or complex document, it can happen that evice
needs a lot of time for processing the document, before the data is sent
into the printer queue. During this time there is no hint that something
is going on in the background. I first thought the print got lost and
started another one until I found evince heavily working in the process
monitor. However most users will not be able to relate these sources of
information.

Maybe a solution could be to show preparing print somewhere in the
toolbar or statusbar or as an overlay on the document.

[Bug 335623] Re: Intrepid - Jaunty Alpha5 : can not mark 'ubuntu-desktp' for upgrade

2009-03-01 Thread Robert Wall
@Matthias Klose,

This is not a mirror issue; I got the packages directly from launchpad
librarian. As I've already said, amd64 has not been transitioned
correctly.

The amd64 python-launchpad-integration .deb created from the build you linked
has the following Depends:
libc6 (= 2.2.5), libglib2.0-0 (= 2.12.0), liblaunchpad-integration1 (=
0.1.17), python ( 2.6), python (= 2.5), python-central (= 0.6.11)
It only includes /usr/lib/python2.5 stuff, not python2.6 stuff.

The i386 p-l-i .deb created by
https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/launchpad-integration/0.1.22/+build/878959
 has the following Depends:
Depends: libc6 (= 2.1.3), libglib2.0-0 (= 2.12.0), liblaunchpad-integration1
(= 0.1.17), python ( 2.7), python (= 2.5), python-central (= 0.6.11)
It includes both /usr/lib/python2.5 and /usr/lib/python2.6 stuff.

[Bug 335623] Re: Intrepid - Jaunty Alpha5 : can not mark 'ubuntu-desktp' for upgrade

2009-03-01 Thread Andrew Gee
I'd like to mention that the version that has been pointed out (0.1.22)
is infact the version that I'm trying to install, which has the bad
dependencies. I've looked at the i386 and amd64 debs and they have
different dependencies. i386 asks for python 2.7 and amd64 asks for
python 2.6.

Thanks

[Bug 336184] [NEW] 'operation not supported in backend' when burning a cd over the network

2009-03-01 Thread danbuntu
Public bug reported:

I have a smb network share mounted in the places menu via the connect to
server wizard. If i insert a blank cd and open it and then drag files
from the network share into the cd window in order to burn them I get
'Operation not supported in backend'. This message is meaningless. If i
try the same thing with brassero it segfualts.

This process works fine if instead I go into home, show hidden files and
then drag files from the .gvfs folder.

It's worth noting that the drag and drop from a network share to the cd
will work fine on a windows xp box - it copies the files to a temp
directory on the local disk and then burns them.

I view this as either a code bug where drag and drop burning should work
or a usability issue where at the very least the error message should
say something like 'unable to burn files from a network share please
copy them to a local drive first'

[Bug 260918] Re: needed: libv4l and associated application patches (or gspca stopped working in 2.6.27)

2009-03-01 Thread isayhelloyousaygoodbye
Sorry if this is not the place, but I'm desperate for guidance on how to access
an webcam with Pixart PAC207BCA (vid/pid 0x093A:0x2468) via gspca pac207. Ekiga
can retrieve image data, but apparently it uses a different system!?
When I try to grab a frame with FFmpeg version
r11872+debian_3:0.svn20080206-12ubuntu3 I get
...
[video4linux2 @ 0xb80aa388][3]Capabilities: 501
[video4linux2 @ 0xb80aa388]Cannot find a proper format.
/dev/video0: I/O error occured
Usually that means that input file is truncated and/or corrupted.

and dmesg shows
gspca: usb_submit_urb [0] err -28

I have compiled and installed libv4l-0.5.8-1 but no difference.
I need to stream from the camera and tried
http://mjpg-streamer.wiki.sourceforge.net/ which does not work.
Could someone give instructions on how to get this working?

[Bug 328167] Re: gnome-keyring-daemon eating 100% CPU at login in Jaunty

2009-03-01 Thread claudio
I landed here because of a similar issue. Maybe the same as Francois
Rigaut describes.

It happens when doing ssh. I have ssh-agent running, which should supply
the key to ssh. Some times setting up an ssh connection hangs. And the
only solution to make ssh work again is to remove the environement
variables that tell ssh to ask an agent for the keys.

Now this happened again, and I had a look at top and noticed gnome-
keyring-daemon at 100%.

Next time I reboot I will have a look on gnome-keyring to see if it goes
to 100% just in interaction with ssh/ssh-agent.

Is there any mean I can gather information useful to you to locate the
problem?

[Bug 335623] Re: Intrepid - Jaunty Alpha5 : can not mark 'ubuntu-desktp' for upgrade

2009-03-01 Thread Steve Kowalik
@Robert, please don't do that. The fix has been uploaded to Jaunty, it
just hasn't been published yet. There is a delay between uploading the
package, waiting for the package to build, and then having the package
hit firstly archive.ubuntu.com, and then mirrors.

I'm going to set this back to Fix Released, as I've just verified via
the build logs that launchpad-integration 0.1.23 does fix the issue.

[Bug 335895] Re: Rythmbox won't play any CD

2009-03-01 Thread JanBrinkmann
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a
bug in rhythmbox.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via
the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you
are having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 329631] Re: Please update ekiga to version 3.0.2

2009-03-01 Thread Alexander Hunziker
3.1.0 (a beta) is out, with plans to release 3.2.0 (stable) along with
Gnome 2.26. Packaging 3.1 early might simplify getting 3.2 into Jaunty
along with the rest of Gnome 2.26.

Furthermore, the Codec selection in the current package in Jaunty is
rather limited - especially lacking are h263 and h264 from the video
codecs. Version 3.2 adds new, higher quality audio codecs.

[Bug 336268] [NEW] Keystroke buffer outruns window scrolling

2009-03-01 Thread Michael Doube
Public bug reported:

Window scrolling speed is limited on some hardware and X configurations.
The keystroke buffer stores a number of strokes, so that if a user holds
the 'up' and 'down' arrow keys the window keeps scrolling after the key
is released. The window is locked and might even grey out until
scrolling catches up with the keystroke buffer. Ubuntu looks crusty and
feels unresponsive with this behaviour.

A suggested improvement is to make window scrolling sensitive to change
in keystroke number rather than explicit number of keystrokes, or to
detect when the arrow keys are being held down.

This behaviour has been noted with Ubuntu Intrepid on a Sony Vaio PCG-
V505DX notebook, lspci and Xorg.0.log attached.

[Bug 336272] [NEW] Missing suspend button

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I am using 8.10 and have just installed 9.04 Alpha 5. Both system do not
allow me to suspend my system. Hibernate is available (have not tried
this to see if it works), but the suspend option is missing in the
logout menu on the panel in the top right hand corner (default).

The problem is 100% reproducible on my computer.
To reproduce the problem, just turn boot up the computer and there is no
suspend option (even after a fresh install with or with out all updates being
installed.)

[Bug 27109] Re: nautilus uses 100% cpu after closing a ssh session

2009-03-01 Thread Miguel Branco
I think that this is not right way to handle a bug that has been
reported since three years and through even more distros releases.

I've just landed here for the first time since I'm using nautilus for
sftp and was worried by this strange cpu activity even - and especially
- after the download would end, fearing that my transfers could not have
been cleanly closed. True that ie used in the past (more than a year
ago) sftp and didn't recall this behaviour.

I can reproduce at any tine: just open a remote sftp window and transfer
(I've dragged the directory from my local directory window and dropped).
Can see any other special setup that could influence, except that I 'm
running a SSVNC session thus having two ssh sessions. Also I'm using key
authentication, in case this matters.

[Bug 27109] Re: nautilus uses 100% cpu after closing a ssh session

2009-03-01 Thread Miguel Branco
Just another hint that just happened: I've tried to unmount the sftp
folder and the desktop was frozen (only, other app widows would work
normally) then all icons simply disappeared. Killing the sftp process
made reappear the desktop icons.

So maybe it a problem rather linked to the display of the sftp volume on
the desktop. In the past I had complain to no avail to the rather lousy
implementation of this desktop icon, which bring you back to root
directory after first login, so maybe it's more a dbus issue or
whatever.

[Bug 336284] [NEW] Internet Radio freezes when Crossfading enabled

2009-03-01 Thread Xavier Spriet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Sorry for opening a new bug, but i've read the other similar reports, and
didn't feel this really belonged in any of them.
The issue is pretty simple... after enabling crossfading backend,
double-clicking an internet radio station triggers rhythmbox to buffer that
stream for several minutes, then to cancel the playing alltogether. The same
stream starts playing instantly once crossfading is disabled.

The Network Buffer Size is set to the default 1024kB with a 1sec
crossfade. The streams i've tried this with are from di.fm.

Sorry for my point of view but I don't think that this is a duplicate of the

really woul like to use the date of deleting add/or where the file was before
deleting when I have to resume a file similar to other.
Now I am not able to do it (I am using Ubuntu 8.10), can some one help me now

[Bug 183514] Re: [hardy] seahorse agent no longer asks for the passphrase

2009-03-01 Thread Tom Hudson
I've been using Intrepid since it's release date and this has not been
an issue. Yesterday evening I installed Kubuntu and KDE 4.2 and when I
logged back into Gnome this morning I received the message that A
supported PGP passphrase agent is not running.

I did the following and it resolved the issue:
sudo mv /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90gpg-agent ~/90gpg-agent.bak

Therefore, could this be related to something that Kubuntu installed?

[Bug 335865] Re: new Jaunty GDM problem

2009-03-01 Thread JanBrinkmann
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in gdm.

Marking this one as confirmed, since it can be difficult to see the font
on the dark background, depending on the monitor brightness.

Marking this one as confirmed, since it can be difficult to see the font on

Let me tell you that it is not because of monitor brughtness, because i can see
anyother font in the login screen and in the options of it, besides it is the

[Bug 336334] [NEW] F-Spot should be multi-threaded.

2009-03-01 Thread Ben James
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

A number of F-Spot operations cause a heavy CPU load: importing images,
adjusting sharpness, etc - these operations should be multi-threaded to better
utilise multi-core CPUs.

Furthermore, the GUI thread should not itself perform any image
manipulation - this would prevent nasty effects as seen in the attached
screenshot.

[Bug 332138] Re: Brasero 0.9.1 does not recognize pre-inserted CD on ubuntu 8.10

2009-03-01 Thread Hartmut Voge
The version 0.9.1 is easy to obtain via ubuntu synaptic paket manager.
(Main, universe and multiverse allowed.)

I will switch to 9.0.4 when the version gets released. My computer is
not intended for 'gaming' like beta testing, so i will not instantly
check the 2.25.91 version... ;-)

Maybe there are some other watching this bug, who can confirm that 0.9.1
behaves right on his or her machine. Then we might close this bug.

Kind regards,
Hartmut
