[Bug 338180] Re: clock applet help contains broken Gnome bug report link

2009-03-06 Thread Ian! D. Allen
This is a documentation content error, not a program execution error.
Do you really want a program strace?

The ghelp:gnome-feedback link is also broken in 8.10.

[Bug 240916] Re: can't configure display resolution (monitor, graphics card) manually in gui

2009-03-06 Thread Eric R Drayer
I hope that I am putting this information in the right place.
I would also like to preface this problem with the
statement that ubuntu 8.1 and XP have a similar
track record with this problem with me.

I have a
2.6.24-23-generic (#1 SMP Thu Nov 27 18:13:46 UTC 2008)Kernal,
gnome,quad6600, atiradeon rv250(open source driver),
intrepid 8.1 all updates no (compiz or fusion or)
desktop effects.

I recently bought a new monitor.samsung 2333SW lcd 23.
the monitor is not recognized by the capplet
(configure display settings).
the resolution is not optimal.
I do not know how to change the resolution.
I have forgoten the comand for my Xorg version
and the version does not show up in the sysinfo application.
the current resolution is 1024*768 48Khz 60Hz NN.
the best resolution is 1920*1080.
My situation is improved from the previous monitor
but I am hopeful that I will be able to use the
better resolution soon.
perhaps I will find more information on this issue
if I use different search key words but this was
the closest I could find.
It would be nice to have a few more designated
key words(areas or connections in the database)
ATI,MONITOR,Nvidia

above I noticed that there was a request for some info.
I have provided it below.

[Bug 338789] [NEW] Error verifying signature Cannot set message digest

2009-03-06 Thread Dragan Tomas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I use S/MIME signatures in all my outgoing messages. It lets me send
them just fine, but when I try to open any of them from my Sent Items

the header area telling me what the subject line of this bug report
reads. It also attaches the smime.p7s file to each one of those
messages, but the content of the message is still perfectly readable and
fine.

[Bug 153706] Re: Any user can reboot or shutdown computer when screen is locked

2009-03-06 Thread bert07
I see that something has been done according to this bug, because since
yesterday I get a very annoying screen whenever I want to restart or
shut down my system.

I'm NOT happy with this. Not happy at all. See also bug #195989.

If I should need a warning screen whenever I wanted to start or close a
program, or restart or close a system, I would have chosen for Vista.

At least implement something that this can be turned off. Please?
Or try to reconsider the solution you found for this bug.

[Bug 217551] Re: Password prompt freezes system during presence of a drop-down menu [hardy]

I am having the same problem as well in Jaunty when network tries to
connect to wireless. Sometimes I can click the power button on laptop to
have a graceful shutdown other times even that does not work and I have
forced to power down. Oddly this issue only occurs when I use the
Broadcom STA driver, if I use the B43 driver it does not freeze the
system. The moment the password prompt comes up the system will freeze.
What drivers is everyone else using when this problem arises?

[Bug 335888] Re: default set of installed themes needs to be changed

2009-03-06 Thread John McHugh
I think the shiki metacity theme would be a better option, its more
coherent than dust. The icon theme is also very good as the icons are of
high res and are more complete than human icon set. They include icons
for more mimetypes like .java, .php, .html etc. The only bad thing about
it is that it replaces the ubuntu icon on the applications menu but that
can be fixed easily.

[Bug 138834] Re: Bluetooth (OBEX Push) should remove devices not in range

2009-03-06 Thread Baptiste Mille-Mathias
A device can be in undiscoverable state so it won't appear in the list, and so
you won't be able to send it files.
So the current behavior is the right one, so you can send files to
undiscoverable device.

Having a tool to manage devices in nautilus-sendto in not an option,
keep bluetooth tool for bluetooth management tool.

Re: [Bug 337450] Re: Boot up sequence brings me to desktop, but no taskbar or tray are visible. Am unable to recover taskbar or tray.

2009-03-06 Thread Marina
Very sorry, this email was sent to my spam folder, just found it.

I could repeat the problem only upon boot-up.  Didn't take a
screenshot.  My husband, knowledgeable in Linux, eventually resolved the
problem, he said that it had to do with the gnome panel.  I'm not sure
what else it may have been related to, but the problem is now resolved.

If there is any other information you might need that I might be able to
provide to you, please ask (if it requires using the terminal I just
need to know if it's a sudo command or what).

Thank you for your response,

Marina

[Bug 338859] [NEW] mirror screens is a poor description

2009-03-06 Thread nandhp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

There is a checkbox Mirror Screens in the Screen Resolution capplet,
which causes your desktop to appear the same way on two displays, rather
than expanding the desktop so you can have different windows on each
display.

The meaning of the phrase Mirror Screens is confusing and unclear (in
fact the entire dialog is confusing and unclear -- I just want to plug
in a TV/projector/whatever to see things in larger size -- but that
isn't the point of this bug)

The Mirror Screens checkbox would be more clear if it were replaced by
a pair of options Extend my desktop across multiple displays and
Mirror my desktop onto multiple displays.

[Bug 292572] Re: Demo movie does not play

2009-03-06 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-
file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where
_my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 338542] Re: Crashed while listening to a flac file and ripping a CD into flac format

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-
file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where
_my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Shure?

Before sending bug report I did the following:

- run gnome-system-log
it shows the known list of nonexistant logfiles

- run gconf-editor and deleted '/apps/gnome-system-log/logfiles' value
btw. it was empty but it says it is of the type bolean, strange I would say
  nevertheless I deleted the value

- restarted gconf-editor and it attempts to open the bogus input files again
  ('/apps/gnome-system-log/logfiles' value was empty)

- did a reboot

- '/apps/gnome-system-log/logfiles' shows the list as in
  --8--from gnome-system-log --8--, see below.

- deleted nonexistant files in '/apps/gnome-system-log/logfiles'

- restarting gnome-system-log and voilla, no complains about nonexistant files
  anymore

---8--- from gnome-system-log ---8---
Could not open the following files:
/var/log/XFree86.0.log: Fehler beim Untersuchen der Datei
/var/log/XFree86.0.log mit fstat(): No such file or directory

So I would say at least for the first run gnome-system-log uses the hardcoded

[Bug 216104] Re: Hardy - Nautilus shortcut to Samba Share reports wrong password, double icons

2009-03-06 Thread Steve Langasek
Thank you for reporting this bug and helping to improve Ubuntu.

I have tested with the current version of GNOME in jaunty and can no
longer reproduce this bug, which was reproducible for me with the 8.04
release. If you experienced this bug in hardy, please test to confirm
that this bug is fixed for you in jaunty (you can do this using the
latest alpha build of jaunty, available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/jaunty/alpha-5/).

If you are still experiencing the bug described by the test case, we
will need more information about your server configuration in order to
debug further.

If you are experiencing a bug that does *not* match the test case in the
bug description, you are experiencing a different bug and should file a
separate bug report (possibly leaving a comment here linking that bug,
for reference).

It is important to verify whether your bug is addressed in the latest
development version of Ubuntu, as that is a precondition for backporting
the bugfix to the LTS release.

[Bug 338803] [NEW] Nautilus shows error message it cannot mount sftp - but it mounts the FS

2009-03-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

(effects Ubuntu 9.04, current patchlevel)

When I mount a filesystem shared by ssh using nautilus (typing
ssh://Hostname into the address bar) an error message appears, that
reads:

»sftp://Hostname/« konnte nicht angezeigt werden.
Einhängen des Ortes nicht möglich.

(English translation:)
»sftp://Hostname/« cannot be displayed.
Unable to mount volume.

But actually it mounts the share: It appears in Places and on the
Desktop. When I try to do the same thing again without unmounting the
share a new message pops up:

Fehler: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already
registered
Bitte wählen Sie einen anderen Betrachter und versuchen Sie es erneut.

(English tanslation:)
Error: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already
registered
Please choose another viewer/browser and try again.

Accessing the share by clicking on the icons that appear after the first try
(when the share is actually mounted) is possible.

[Bug 216104] Re: Hardy - Nautilus shortcut to Samba Share reports wrong password, double icons

2009-03-06 Thread Michael Kofler
it is fixed in Jaunty *and* in Intrepid, but not in Hardy

basically, it is fixed since Gnome 2.24

the problem is: Hardy is LTS and is promoted for enterprise and business
use; this is a serious flaw for inexperienced desktop users; therefore,
it should be fixed also in Hardy (backport the Nautilus fix or
whatever); if Hardy were not LTS, this bug could have been closed a half
year ago

[Bug 338779] [NEW] better support for ISO 9660 Level 2 Romeo

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: brasero

The ISO 9660 Romeo CD Format has the advantage that it supports file-
and directorynames up to 128 charakters and it's more interoperable
with the Windows world in contrast to UDF, there you need a driver or
you even can't read. It was developed by Adaptec. In the Windows-world a
Romeo-disk (CD and DVD) can be made with the NTI CD/DVD Maker.

A DVD made with the NTI program had only low-case characters and special
characters are totally not displayed because it's not based on Unicode.

Does a linux-burn-program support Joliet Extended with 110 characters?
There are the limits?

[Bug 320327] Re: An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for Nautilus. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly.

2009-03-06 Thread ehendric
I get the exact same errors. I had to do a hard shutdown on my Dell XPS
M1530 once. When I powered it back on, I started getting those errors
every time I start my system.

Please advise, thanks,

Eric
