This is reproducable with every link on http://apple.com/trailers 
It does not matter if a link is opened with the browser plugin or standalone 
totem.

To reproduce the issue, i simply have to open a link like
http://movies.apple.com/movies/paramount/star_trek/startrek-
tlr3_480p.mov and try to play it.

Rhythmbox works perfectly when invoked from the local X display of the
system it's running on, and it plays and streams all the file types for
which I have codecs.  However, when I open it up in an X window on a
remote display, it plays any local file, regardless of type, but it will
stream only OGG files.  Attempting to play an MP3 internet stream
produces this error:

   Couldn't start playback
   Could not determine type of stream

I ran a GTK stack trace but got only ordinary thread reports.  Rhythmbox
does not crash on the error.

I can't tell if this is a Rhythmbox problem, something in gstreamer or
some configuration weirdness in X11.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04.  Rhythmbox is version 0.11.5-0ubuntu8.
Gstreamer is version 0.10.18-4ubuntu2.

I have Ubuntu 8.10 on my machine with an ASUS X-Fi DX sound card. When I
try to change the volume with the slider the range is compressed into
the top 25% of the bar.

That is to say, when the slider is from 0%-75% the volume is at 0. At
100% the volume is at 100, and between 75%-100% the volume ranges from
0-100.

Needless to say this is very frustrating as this problem causes me to
lose granularity in my volume control. I basically only have the ability
to set it to volumes 0, 25, 50, 75, 100 (due to the slider locking in
place at certain intervals).

Well, as I said I've never done this before so here goes nothing.

I've tried to attach a patch that applies to MenuEditor.py.  I started
from alacarte-0.11.9 obtained from apt-get source alacarte.

The patch contains a function checkDuplicate(item) that checks whether
the current item already exists system-wide.  I imagined it being called
when a .desktop file in ~/.local was going to be edited.  If the local
file to be written was the same as the system version, the local version
should be deleted.

Hallo,

recently I started to play around with WebDAV shares. I'm running an
apache webserver with DAV modules enabled on a remote mashine. Access
seems to work an has been tested with different client.

First Problem: Using Gnome's "connect to server" tool it is not possible
to connect to a DAVS (webdav over SSL) server. At least, I was not able
to do so.

Second Problem: Unsing Nautilus I managed to connect my server using the
URI "davs://server/path". The remote share is mounted and nautilus
showes the content. Additionally a new icon appears on desktop
representing the mountpoint. When I try to use that icon I always get
the error "Not a WebDAV enabled share". I have to unmount this share
(icon disappeares) and mount it again from scratch (or use a bookmark).
An "ls ~.gvfs" on command-line gives another error message, namely
"Input/output error ... WebDAV on Servername".

What peace of software does all the magic (package)? So far I don't
know.

All that makes handling of davs shares very unpleasant. Please let me
know if I can supply any further information, messages or application
output.

I have 14 PDFs which cause Evince to reliably segfault.  These PDFs
originated with the IRS and the California taxing authorities.  They
were stripped of their metadata using some prototype code.  Evince
segfaults almost immediately when opening them.  They may not be
entirely compliant PDFs, but it is worth noting that Adobe Reader can
open and display them just fine, without even an error message.  I will
attach three of the files -- if anybody wants to see the rest or to have
the originals, I can attach those as well.

The originals are "PDF-1.6" format, but the stripped ones are "PDF-1.3".
It is possible that 1.6 features are appearing in the 1.3 PDFs -- just a
guess.  In any event, segfaulting is not an option.

Sorry for my bad english.

I have a Msi Wind u100, and i tried to install ubuntu 9.04, to see who
good is it, and to find especifiques bugs (potencial for little pc like
mine).

For start, i saw all the aplications (include the install) are too big
for a 10" screen (so imagine a lower screen like 8.5" or smaller),
something that don't exist in olders versions of ubuntu.

Second and must important problem, when i change de resolution. the
green message saying (Pc Netbook 10" (Ordinateur Portable 10" in my
french version) saying the size of the screen) apears in the left corner
of the screen and it's impossible to hide or close it.

For mor Information:
Msi Wind
Intel GMA945 - 64Mb
10" Screen (Resolution Max - 1024x768 (ubuntu 9.04 propose max 1024x600, but 
ubuntu 8.10 propose 1024x768)
2Gb Ram
Fresh Ubuntu 9.04 (the last with the last updates) with a Usb PenDrive.

EDIT: Aparently the problem resolves when we re-open the Menu dans
change for another resolution, then save the change, then rechange for
the desired resolution then save, then close.

And that's it...

Ps : the RTL8187SE instalation mode ofr the ubuntu 8.10 works on the
ubuntu 9.04

Okay, first of all, deactivating vino immediately brought my CPU back to
normal. So that's good; we know what caused the problem. :)

It did not crash and, as you can see, I connected through Vinagre/Remote
Desktop Viewer.

I re-enabled vino in the Remote Desktop preferences and immediately the
CPU jumped. What's weird is that gconfd shows a pretty steady CPU usage;
gnome-session is around 2-3%, gconfd is at 1%. Related?

I can't reproduce this in Hardy on an Asus M50. Downloaded all three
attachments and then opened each with Evince, without causing a
segfault.

The Power Manager applet in Gnome says my computer is on "AC" power when it's 
plugged in. All computers run on DC power, just that most desktops convert the 
power they're fed to DC inside of their power supplies. Saying the computer is 
on "AC" power to me seems like an annoying misnomer. Laptops will essentially 
always have a power cord that includes an AC to DC adapter in the middle of the 
cord - so the laptop is fed DC and has no awareness of anything to do with AC 
power.

I'd just use the terms "External" and "Internal" power - this is somewhat 
ambiguizing, however it's about as accurate as you can generally get for this 
sort of thing. 


* Yes, I know I'm being picky, but hey, it's not like being accurate in our 
choice of terms here costs us money. Besides, it's not crippling, go ahead and 
ignore me if you guys like - only thing is, I think it kind of hurts Ubuntu 
slightly to have a misnomer like that, or at least, it would in the eyes of 
certain weird people.

i see this clearly as a bug, see newly added duplicates.

important comments from there:


i have deleted my templates folder and nautilus does not handle this very well.
clicking on "Go->Templates" brings me to my home folder.

(that is at least consistent with
XDG_TEMPLATES_DIR="$HOME/"
line from .config/user-dirs.dirs)

however this setup is not very useful because i most certainly do not
want to have my templates in my home folder (or put it the other way
round: all my files as a template). and secondly, it does not work, i.e.
even the files that are in my home folder are not available as
templates...

i suggest that a non-existent template dir should not be changed to $HOME and i 
should be offered some assistance when clicking on "Go->Templates" in this case.

This is the screenshot as requested, what you will see in the picture is
pidgin is open but the panels themselves do not exist there is no Drop
Down Menus at all besides the drop down for logout. In this particular
circumstance, the desktop's mounted drives are accessible and the rest
is not.
