[Bug 357824] Re: totem no longer plays movies after resolution has been changed

2009-04-24 Thread zhangning
I meet the same problem.

I find a temporarily solution for this: change your video card driver
to "vesa" , then totem works.

--
My video card is Intel 865G, and I hear Intel video card driver does not work
well in 9.04. So I guess this may be the cause. So I boot my system in my
friend's computer (a Nvidia video card in his computer), totem work well. This
support my conjecture. Then I add "driver "vesa"" to "device" section in
xorg.conf, restart X, totem works.

[Bug 137247] Re: libpam-keyring broken on autologins

2009-04-24 Thread Doug Holton
Thanks Collin, that worked for me (in Jaunty Ubuntu Netbook Remix).

I have an administrator user (me) and a non-administrator user (my kid).
I went to administration-Login window and set my kid's account to auto-login.

Then I right clicked the wireless applet, went to 'edit connections',
the wireless tab, and checked the "available to all users" for our
wireless connection. Rebooted and it logged in his account and wireless
was already connected. No password prompts.

Thanks!

[Bug 234278] Re: baobab fails to show usage after hitting refresh

2009-04-24 Thread Hew McLachlan
Did you follow the steps to reproduce that I added to the bug
description? The key is you need to first sort the Usage column
(ascending, arrow down), before refreshing / rescanning. It does not
depend on what you are scanning, I reproduced it with "Scan Filesystem".

Really, it shouldn't be possible to sort Usage since it's the same as
Size. Perhaps the solution is these two columns should just be merged
into one.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: baobab

  OS: Ubuntu Hardy (8.04)
  Package version: baobab 2.20.0.1-1ubuntu5
  Mirror: Positive Internet

After telling baobab (Disk Usage Analyser - DUA) to scan a remote
partition, the first time the usage column is correctly shown. When I
hit Refresh in the DUA, the usage column turns to -.-% for all entries
except the folder I told it scan which reports 100%.

See the attached screenshot (folder names blurred).

When I hit refresh I expect the Usage column to reflect the new usage.

  Steps to reproduce:

- 1) Scan a folder.
- 2) Click "Usage" to sort.
+ 1) Scan a folder (eg. Scan Filesystem).
+ 2) Click "Usage" to sort (ascending, arrow down).
  3) Click "Refresh".

  What should happen:

  4) Usage column displays correct percentages.

  What actually happens:

  4) Usage column is filled with -.- %.

[Bug 328575] Re: Cannot start gnome-terminal bcause of gconf error

2009-04-24 Thread Peter Cordes
Thanks to everyone for confirming that this happens under normal
circumstances. No further confirmation is required. Just subscribe to
the bug without making a post, unless you have anything new to add.
(Correct me if I'm overstepping here, Ubuntu maintainers.)

Further posts on this thread should be about what to do about this, or
ideas for how the relevant programs and libraries should behave so
gnome-terminal can start when gnome-settings-daemon isn't already
running.

I've always found it kind of messy the way KDE programs start daemons
that clutter your terminal with log messages even after the first KDE
program (that started them) has exitted. If it wasn't for the messages
on stdout or stderr, it wouldn't be so bad. Obviously, you don't want
to hide the messages either, so I don't really see any good solution. I
guess it's something you get used to as a user, though. I start most of
my long-lived GUI stuff from one screen(1) window, so only one window
will get clogged with messages if any of them feel like spewing. So it
would probably work to start any required daemons when they're needed.

I don't see any obvious solution, if there's no way around requiring a
daemon. Hmm, possibly if there's no daemon, read settings from a file
yourself? Using the same code (in a library) that the daemon uses to
get the settings? This might have to be read-only to avoid danger in
case the daemon does start while gnome-terminal is running...

Same problem here. Happened with upgrade to Jaunty. Affected programs

mentioned elsewhere. Reinstalling gnome-settings-daemon does not solve
the problem. Please let me know what other info would help.

[Bug 366471] [NEW] Calendar closed unexpectedly

2009-04-24 Thread kwatson512
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

In new installation of Ubuntu 9.04 "Jaunty Jackalope," using Evolution
with a Microsoft Exchange server. When opening the calendar, it begins
to populate with events, and then closes with this advisory note: "The
Evolution calendars have quit unexpectedly. Your calendars will not be
available until Evolution is restarted." Restarting Evolution
reproduces the same problem. Problem reproducible in LiveCD, LiveUSB,
and LiveUSB of Xubuntu 9.04 version (after installing Evolution with
Synaptic).

No crash report available (Evolution didn't technically "crash").
Running on Lenovo x61s laptop (Intel Core2 Duo L7700 CPU @ 1.80GHz, 4 GB
RAM.

In one instance, Evolution Tasks also closed unexpectedly.

1) Ubuntu release: 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope
2) Package: evolution 2.26.1-0ubuntu.1
3) I expected calendar to populate and remain open

Waiting long enough, the complete burning process works (as I expereinced

[Bug 366470] [NEW] Ekiga destroys Evolution address book

2009-04-24 Thread Pete Torgenrud
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ekiga

Jaunty, Ekiga 3.2.0.

I decided to import contacts from Thunderbird to Evolution because Ekiga
can use supposedly use these addresses. So I spent some time getting
things organized, no problem. Then I configure Ekiga and take a look at
the addressbook. Didn't change anything using Ekiga, just took a look.
Then I closed Ekiga, did some other stuff and then I needed an Evolution
contacts. Nothing there. Ekiga fucked them up. addressbook.db and
addressbook.db.summary are still there, but Evolution can't read them
properly.

Yes, it's reproducible. I stupidly went through the process of importing
my contacts twice before realizing that Ekiga was the problem.

Wow.

[Bug 366468] [NEW] Calender freeze

2009-04-24 Thread Bob
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I just did a complete format and reinstall of Ubuntu 9.04 and Evolution
2.26.1.

I am confirming that nothing can be clicked on in a calendar view
without a freeze and a force quit after setting a recurring event.

I can create an appointment and then try to set it as a recurring event
and this will happen every time.

I have to go into the file system and delete the .ics file and then
things will again work in the calender view until I try to create a
recurring event again.

I found the crash file by restarting apport first

Then launching brasero.

I can't seem to right clicking and open with "Report a problem.."

It reads:
'Sorry, the program "brasero" closed unexpectedly'
'Your computer does not have enough free memory to automatically analyze the
problem and send a report to the developers.'

So I am uploading the file directly.

[Bug 365794] Re: when return to desktop, a message "ubuntu, a shep copy of MAC"

2009-04-24 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Bug 363455] Re: text html decoder plugin required

Thanks!

[Bug 366408] Re: Panels can't be moved when expanded

The past experience was an Ubuntu specific patch which allowed you to

[Bug 42109] Re: LiveCD session doesn't provide fully translated interfaces according to selected language on booting screen

2009-04-24 Thread Peter Eijlander
Created the ISO, works flawlessly. Mind you: If only one language is
chosen, that language shows up in the menu. You have the ability to pick
more. I tried Dutch and Esperanto and those two remained under the F2
key. Started the Live CD in Dutch and all dialogues were Dutch, except:
Add/Remove programs is in Dutch but the listed items were "Alles"
(Dutch) but then again
"Accessories","Education","Games","Graphics","Internet","Office","Other","Programming","Sound
and Video","System Tools","Universal Access" all still remained in
English. This, again, is the bug I have reported before. Despite that
the language chosen is correct, this menu item persistently produces
English. Applications I have tested so far (Office, some games, some
utilities, Firefox and Evolution were all in Dutch as is a large part of
the helpfile.

[Bug 330068] Re: Latest Brasero writes CDs very slowly

2009-04-24 Thread abhiroopb
So, basically I want to burn a number of avi files onto a dvd. I am
burning this as a data dvd using the default brasero application that
ships with jaunty.

The first time I tried it the burning dvd (small) window opened and
immediately closed.

The second time I disabled "burnproof" and the window was there and it
started, but going at about 0.3 KiB/s when my DVDs are 8x and I'm sure
my DVD burner is faster (in fact in intrepid it was much faster)

The third time I have disabled "burnproof" and "compatibility with
windows", speed is still 0.3.

[Bug 366417] [NEW] Monospace font broken after upgrade to Jaunty

2009-04-24 Thread Vegard Svanberg
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from Intrepid to Jaunty, something happened to the
Monospace font:

Before (correct):

Now (wrong):

http://www.svanberg.no/~vegard/bilder/div/monospacefont2.jpg

I've chosen (in gnome-terminal or system->preferences->appearance the
Dejavu Sans Mono font, but it makes no difference in gnome-terminal. It
doesn't seem that the Dejavu font is used, but some other font instead.
It seems to work okay if I view a text file in Firefox, though.

[Bug 353921] Re: notification-daemon does not respect gconf preferences

2009-04-24 Thread Daniel Hallgren
Same here (9.04 final, 32-bit). However, the bug is more serious than
notifications just being displayed in the wrong corner:

I have a multi-monitor setup, with two monitors of different size -
primary is 1920x1200 and second is 1280x1024. They are aligned at the
bottom edge, moving the top edge of the second screen down by 176
pixels. This area of 1280x176 pixels above the second screen is "dead",
and not used by applications (since it is not visible anyway).

The notification-system ignores this, and puts all notifications in this
dead area (I can sometimes see the bottom part of a notification at the
top of the screen) . Since there is no way of moving the notifications
to another corner, I can't see them at all!

So unless this will be fixed soon, I need to find a way to revert to the
old system immediately.

[Bug 202089] Re: Pulseaudio is blocking normal sound after resume

2009-04-24 Thread Daniel T Chen
** Description changed:

- SRU information follows:
+ jaunty SRU information follows:
+
+ Note that this SRU involves two separate bugs, this one and bug 326532.
+
+ Impact: Users who experience problems with PulseAudio often kill it
+ (using "pulseaudio -k" or "killall pulseaudio", the latter of which is
+ more reliable). Jaunty's current pm-utils sleep hook looks for the
+ session-invoked command line. Users who invoke pulseaudio manually,
+ after killing it, with "pulseaudio -D" (or other variants) do not have
+ this session-invoked command line, and thus, when they suspend to ram or
+ disk, the pm-utils sleep hook does not suspend their pulseaudio daemons.
+
+ Note that the use case of killing the pulseaudio daemon and allowing it
+ to autospawn afterward is unaffected; jaunty's existing pm-utils sleep
+ hook correctly reaps all pulseaudio instances. This SRU only applies to
+ manually invoked "pulseaudio -D", "pulseaudio -vvv", etc.
+
+ Resolution: Modify the pm-utils sleep hook to correctly reap all
+ pulseaudio instances regardless of pulseaudio invocation command line.
+
+ SRU debdiff:
+
+ TEST CASE: Boot into a jaunty install. In a Terminal, issue "killall
+ pulseaudio;pulseaudio -D". Suspend to ram, then resume. Note the
+ inaudible audio from PulseAudio.
+
+ Regression potential: No regressions have been identified in production.
+ --
+ old intrepid SRU information follows:

Impact: A portion of users with a default or updated (intrepid-updates)
Ubuntu 8.10 install experience inaudible audio from PulseAudio after
resuming from suspend-to-ram. This symptom is due to the PulseAudio
daemon not having received proper notification to suspend clients and
  release the sound device(s).

Resolution: Configure users' pulseaudio daemons to suspend prior to
suspending to ram and to resume after resuming. This sequence is
accomplished via a pm-utils sleep hook. The corresponding fixed version
  (0.9.13-2ubuntu3) is available in jaunty.

  SRU debdiff:
  http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20316781/pulseaudio_0.9.10-2ubuntu9.2.debdiff

TEST CASE: Boot into a default or updated (intrepid-updates) Ubuntu 8.10
install. Suspend to ram, then resume. Note the inaudible audio from
  PulseAudio.

Regression potential: No regressions have been identified in production.

  Background information follows:

  Binary package hint: pulseaudio

  > aplay squish.au
Sonando Audio Sparc 'squish.au' : Mu-Law, Ratio 8000 Hz, Mono

  [Suspend to Ram/Resume]

  > aplay squish.au
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:874:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
aplay: main:546: error al abrir audio: Dispositivo ó recurso ocupado

Then you need to killall pulseaudio for apps that use pcm starts working
again.
(Question: How you can stop/start/restart pulseudio? In Ubuntu
/etc/init.d/pulseaudio script is disabled)

If you need more information, please let me know.

  Thx.

[Bug 366344] Re: gnome-panel crashed with signal 7 in panel_shell_register()

2009-04-24 Thread DrC
COLD BOOT - disk error message on two out of two occasions, offering to
retry which invariably succeeds. The first occasion was when the CD was
first loaded. The second preparatory to doing the integrity check.

REBOOT - always (6 times now) reads OK as far as I know, including the
disk integrity check.

I have to give this hardware back to my wife for now. If others
experience the problem and I need to return to it it will be possible,
but for now I'm off to my own hardware to see what that does.

[Bug 42109] Re: LiveCD session doesn't provide fully translated interfaces according to selected language on booting screen

2009-04-24 Thread Peter Eijlander
But I did a search... found out that there is a package called UCK and
that with it, a customised version can be created in any supported
language. Of course I will build a Dutch one, test it and use it on the
occasions that I have to proof that Ubuntu is fun to use and works in
our native language!

Unfortunately I do not have facilities to offer an ISO for download but
I will report the outcome.

Cheers to you all,
Peter

[Bug 366224] Re: Rendering artifact on text in firefox and gedit

** Summary changed:

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: firefox
+ Binary package hint: firefox, gedit

- The line circled in red appears and disappears arbitrarily, it can

+ Horizontal lines appears arbitrarily during the rendering of text, they

+ I have so far sighted these rendering artifacts in Firefox's tab-bar and

with Ubuntu, read the maintainers answer on comment 11:

[Bug 366379] [NEW] Deleted files does not show in Nautilus trash:/// [Jaunty 64 bit]

2009-04-24 Thread José Lou Chang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Greetings.
When I delete a file by pressing "delete" on the keyboard or by right-clicking
a file and then choosing "Move to Trash", the file is removed as intended, but,
when you open the trash:/// directory, it does not show any of the deleted
files.

I have found similar bug reports on LaunchPad, but most of then are old
from the time of Gutsy. Also, those reports shows that it affects NTFS
file-system.

[Bug 366344] Re: gnome-panel crashed with signal 7 in panel_shell_register()

2009-04-24 Thread DrC
Reboot - I got an X-server error (not visible) with an out-of-vertical
synch static black band across the centre of the display. The body of
the error message was not visible.

There was a choice (Retry or Continue I think from memory) but the
keyboard was not working properly ( I got another retry button and other
screen corruptions but neither option was properly selectable, and
Return didn't).

Ctrl-Alt-Del got me into a reboot. On the third attempt the live CD
booted properly and I got panels and menus on the GUI.

I cannot exclude the possibility of CD reader faults - yet. I will do a
check on the CD and report back..
