[Bug 370727] [NEW] connected to Internet through mobile broadband connection . the system monitor on the panel does not show any activity while opening the system monitor shows the activity.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor When i am connected to the Internet through a local network (wired network) the system monitor on the panel shows the right graph and data which is alright. [Bug 193192] Re: DPMS is broken
I have the same problem in 9.04 (and earlier versions). I also don't find anything in the log files. But it seems to have something to do with the sound card access. [Bug 370737] [NEW] Creating username = exising group is refused as user exists
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools In trying to simple copy a config across account I got to a point of deleting a new user. Returning to recreate the user a fresh, having deleted the /home/user folder the Users and Groups suggest the username exists although it's not in the user list. Not obviously, it is the group by that name that is preventing the user being created. Deleting the group name = user name, the user can then be created without issue. Creating any user with existing group name does the same it seems. Maybe change the prompt to suggest group of that name exists already rather than suggesting user name exists? Possibly also improve deletion of users by querying if group name removal is being expected too? ** Affects: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Creating username = exising group is refused as user exists https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/370737 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I had a conversation with Philipp Kern recently and he basically shares our opinion. This bug is very old and I don't know if the specification for this - in my opinion - trivial thing will be approved. I think if someone installs a new browser and wants to stay with it, he/she can just remove the icon from the panel, add the right one and maybe choose to set this new browser as his/her default application (but that's just my opinion). [Bug 368372] Re: ubuntu- bug jockey-common
Hello Grabbed Final release of Jaunty 9.04, installed to hard drive, did all updates as at May 2 11.00 am South African time, then tried to install the nvidia drivers for my FX 5500. It would appear that jockey-common crashed, but there was no crash report in /var/crash. I then clicked on the Activate button again, which would appear to be incorrectly set to on, as it then proceeded to un-install the nvidia drivers. What should have happened here is that firstly jockey-common should not have crashed, and secondly, when it re-started itself, it should have picked up that the drivers were now installed, the Activate button should have been greyed out, and indicated to the user that a re-boot, or re-login is needed to use the new nvidia drivers. I then went to synaptic, re-installed jockey and jockey common, rebooted, chose hardware drivers again, activated the nvidia drivers and THIS time it installed correctly, without the crash. -- ubuntu- bug jockey-common https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/368372 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to yelp in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 321176] Re: [Jaunty] alarm-clock causes screen to freeze
About your test case: 1. It uses threads with incorrect locking, see attached patch to fix it; 2. In my system, X is not frozen, just becomes very slow. But the program is asking for trouble by continually updating the status icon in a while True: loop without even a pause for breath between each loop; 3. I am actually able to kill the program with a simple Ctrl-C, evidencing that X is not completely frozen. So perhaps this is just a performance issue wrt gtk status icons. I see no bug here, just a denial of service. Or we could consider a gtk bug for momentarily freezing an entire X session while a status icon is being updated. ** Attachment added: test case with thread safety fixed http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26244131/p.diff -- [Jaunty] alarm-clock causes screen to freeze https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/321176 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to pygtk in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Yes, there is no problem with the commonly used website itself, which I used before with 8.10, and I also tried tar.gz files elsewhere on other sites with the same result to verify this. Although this is not a security matter, I do think it's not an unimportant one, because everyone uses Archive Manager at some point, and we're all in Ubuntu land prone to honing our desktop appearance, often involving these tar.gz files and art.gnome.org is a 'first port of call' it seems. how do you start totem, is that running locally or over ssh? Locally. $ totem could you try on jaunty? I don't know how to reproduce the error message. Should I abruptly terminate dbus? The message seems to complain about a dangling socket (meaning there's a file but no one to connect to). do you have similar issue with other software? As far as I can remember, only totem has been giving me an error in a widget that's way too small (considering the length of the error message). Again: the bug isn't the error message, but how the message is displayed. Your questions seem (to me) to aim more at finding out why the error message is there. [Bug 370758] Re: unable to edit location name in clock
fair enough. under intrepid I was able to change the name of the location to something more meaningful. in this particular case all I wanted to do was change the orthography of the name. I've just discovered I can get round it by creating a new location with my desired name, and then copying the lat. and long. information from the original entry. it's a fiddly process and I fell foul of (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/304082), but it amounts to doing what I wanted, so I'm happy. ** Attachment added: screenshot http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26245718/Screenshot-Bug%20%23370758.png -- unable to edit location name in clock https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/370758 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 340515] Re: Consumes all CPU, logs a lot of output
I can confirm that this is still a problem for me. After upgrading from 8.10 the cpu was still high and I saw this was caused by vino. After disabling it from the system preferences menu remote desktop, the cpu usage immediately goes down. Stopping the autostart with gconftool-2 as descibed above, logging off and on again, and then trying to reenable it in the remote desktop menu gives 100% cpu again (confirmed that vino wasn't running before this with ps). Thus there still is a bug somewhere. -- Consumes all CPU, logs a lot of output https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/340515 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 370815] [NEW] Play status in notification area icon hard to see
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Could I request a brighter graphic or bigger change to show when rhythmbox is playing since the current icon is hard to see clearly. What I would suggest is to colour the big circle in the icon the same as the blue play symbols, that white/blue contrast would make it much more obvious. I did try to do it myself after reading something about the icons being in /usr/share/rhythmbox/icons, but couldn't see anything that I could edit for the play icon. The reason I'd particularly like this is that with last.fm, there's quite often a pause before playback, and if you hit the wrong button you can completely hang some songs. I can fix that from the keyboard without opening the program, but to do that I need to know whether rhythmbox is currently playing so I know whether to hit play, stop or skip, and that's hard to see right now.
