2009-05-02 Thread topubuf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

When i am connected to the Internet through a local network (wired network) the
system monitor on the panel shows the right graph and data which is alright.
But when i am connected to the Internet through mobile broadband connection,
the system monitor on the panel does not show any graph of data but when i open
the system monitor, it shows network history and graph of data received and
transmitted.

[Bug 193192] Re: DPMS is broken

2009-05-02 Thread Spack
I have the same problem in 9.04 (and earlier versions). I also don't find
anything in the log files. But it seems to have something to do with the sound
card access. I recognised dpms not working after using flash video player in
the web or using songbird. Maybe it is an interessting fact, that I have an
Nvidia sound card.
This bug is really annoying!

[Bug 370737] [NEW] Creating username = exising group is refused as user exists

2009-05-02 Thread davidpbrown
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

In trying to simple copy a config across account I got to a point of
deleting a new user.

Returning to recreate the user a fresh, having deleted the /home/user
folder the Users and Groups suggest the username exists although it's
not in the user list. Not obviously, it is the group by that name that
is preventing the user being created. Deleting the group name = user
name, the user can then be created without issue.

Creating any user with existing group name does the same it seems.

Maybe change the prompt to suggest group of that name exists already
rather than suggesting user name exists?

Possibly also improve deletion of users by querying if group name
removal is being expected too?

I've managed to write a simple testcase in Python. Hope that helps. I
have something to do today, but I'll try to check out if it's possible
in C. After starting crash.py by doing python crash.py you need to kill
it by doing killall -9 python.

[Bug 11334] Re: Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste

2009-05-02 Thread Michael Nagel
I had a conversation with Philipp Kern recently and he basically shares
our opinion. To get it in the default release we should:

- collect all known/possible regressions (like cp of binary data, some magic
gimp seems to do, ...)
- find someone from the official canonical team to support this

probably a blueprint summing up the reason why this change is needed
together with these two points is the way to go.

[Bug 26394] Re: Web browser button on top panel should open preferred application, rather than firefox/evolution

2009-05-02 Thread Martin Mai
This bug is very old and I don't know if the specification for this - in
my opinion - trivial thing will be approved.

I think if someone installs a new browser and wants to stay with it,
he/she can just remove the icon from the panel, add the right one and
maybe choose to set this new browser as his/her default application (but
that's just my opinion).

In case it helps: I came across the gconf-key
/desktop/gnome/applications/browser/exec, which, in my case, contains
the string epiphany. It should be possibly to create a starter on the
panel that factors in this key.

[Bug 353989] Re: Import saves images in home root

2009-05-02 Thread Fredrik Persson
It may very well be so, I just marked them both to make some with the
permissions to merge bugs to take note of this and combine them.

If upstream means the f-spot team, they seem to be convinced that this
is a bug in the ubuntu patches, not in the original source code.
Therefore, the maintainer of the ubuntu patches need to look into them.

[Bug 370722] Re: Evolution memo and task crash when started from bottom tabs

2009-05-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Sorry - didn't realise this was unclear.

From the Clock Preferences dialogue, add a location (e.g T'ai-pei

Note: the location chosen doesn't matter.

Changing the Location Name and then clicking Okay has no noticeable

[Bug 368372] Re: ubuntu- bug jockey-common

2009-05-02 Thread gray
Hello

Grabbed Final release of Jaunty 9.04, installed to hard drive, did all
updates as at May 2 11.00 am South African time, then tried to install
the nvidia drivers for my FX 5500. It would appear that jockey-common
crashed, but there was no crash report in /var/crash. I then clicked on
the Activate button again, which would appear to be incorrectly set to
on, as it then proceeded to un-install the nvidia drivers.

What should have happened here is that firstly jockey-common should not
have crashed, and secondly, when it re-started itself, it should have
picked up that the drivers were now installed, the Activate button
should have been greyed out, and indicated to the user that a re-boot,
or re-login is needed to use the new nvidia drivers.

I then went to synaptic, re-installed jockey and jockey common,
rebooted, chose hardware drivers again, activated the nvidia drivers and
THIS time it installed correctly, without the crash.

evidencing that X is not completely frozen.

So perhaps this is just a performance issue wrt gtk status icons. I see
no bug here, just a denial of service. Or we could consider a gtk bug
for momentarily freezing an entire X session while a status icon is
being updated.

[Bug 370535] Re: won't open tar.gz in 9.04

2009-05-02 Thread frankwakeman
Yes, there is no problem with the commonly used website itself, which I
used before with 8.10, and I also tried tar.gz files elsewhere on other
sites with the same result to verify this.

Although this is not a security matter, I do think it's not an
unimportant one, because everyone uses Archive Manager at some point,
and we're all in Ubuntu land prone to honing our desktop appearance,
often involving these tar.gz files and art.gnome.org is a 'first port of
call' it seems.

Thanks.

[Bug 334844] Re: Totem error dialog: size makes errmsg unreadable

2009-05-02 Thread Jonas Kölker
how do you start totem, is that running locally or over ssh?
Locally. $ totem

 could you try on jaunty?
I don't know how to reproduce the error message. Should I abruptly terminate
dbus? The message seems to complain about a dangling socket (meaning there's
a file but no one to connect to).

do you have similar issue with other software?
As far as I can remember, only totem has been giving me an error in a widget
that's way too small (considering the length of the error message).

Again: the bug isn't the error message, but how the message is
displayed. Your questions seem (to me) to aim more at finding out why
the error message is there. I probably killed dbus or something equally
nasty. It doesn't happen often, but it happened at least once.

[Bug 370776] Re: rhythmbox crashed on playing

[Bug 370758] Re: unable to edit location name in clock

2009-05-02 Thread Simon
fair enough. under intrepid I was able to change the name of the
location to something more meaningful. in this particular case all I
wanted to do was change the orthography of the name.

I've just discovered I can get round it by creating a new location with
my desired name, and then copying the lat. and long. information from
the original entry. it's a fiddly process and I fell foul of
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/304082), but
it amounts to doing what I wanted, so I'm happy.

[Bug 340515] Re: Consumes all CPU, logs a lot of output

2009-05-02 Thread dirk
I can confirm that this is still a problem for me. After upgrading from
8.10 the cpu was still high and I saw this was caused by vino. After
disabling it from the system preferences menu remote desktop, the cpu
usage immediately goes down. Stopping the autostart with gconftool-2 as
descibed above, logging off and on again, and then trying to reenable it
in the remote desktop menu gives 100% cpu again (confirmed that vino
wasn't running before this with ps). Thus there still is a bug
somewhere.

[Bug 370815] [NEW] Play status in notification area icon hard to see

2009-05-02 Thread myxiplx
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Could I request a brighter graphic or bigger change to show when
rhythmbox is playing since the current icon is hard to see clearly.

What I would suggest is to colour the big circle in the icon the same as
the blue play symbols, that white/blue contrast would make it much more
obvious.

I did try to do it myself after reading something about the icons being
in /usr/share/rhythmbox/icons, but couldn't see anything that I could
edit for the play icon.

The reason I'd particularly like this is that with last.fm, there's
quite often a pause before playback, and if you hit the wrong button you
can completely hang some songs. I can fix that from the keyboard
without opening the program, but to do that I need to know whether
rhythmbox is currently playing so I know whether to hit play, stop or
skip, and that's hard to see right now.

David Laurell still seems to be having a problem though. It works for

RE: [Bug 328071] Re: Gedit Print preview

2009-05-02 Thread thomlark
The reason I went with 8.04 LTS was I wanted to be able to stay with the
same version. What happened to the long term support (LTS)?

I don't want to have to rebuild my Linux system every 6 months.

If the problem is with 8.04 LTS that is Long Term Support well I guess
all we can do is go for the newer version without LTS. Ian.

[Bug 28052] Re: Improve mouse sensitivity and acceleration settings

2009-05-02 Thread Traz
I also have an issue with this. I dont like any acceleration, this means
that the cursor should move no matter how fast I move my mouse.

Surprisingly in intrepid, I achieved this by setting the acceleration
bar to the right and the sensitivity bar to the left.

In jaunty, i'm unable to set the cursor speed to fast and no
acceleration at all.
