[Bug 378927] [NEW] Cover Art plug-in gave almost all of my music the same cover art.

[Bug 378891] [NEW] Resume from suspend/hibernate chooses when to function

2009-05-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Of course, for now, it varies greatly between both desktop and laptop
users of Ubuntu as to whether or not the Suspend/Hibernate buttons work.
For me, however, I've found that my system is a little different from
the existing bug reports, but I'm sure I'm not alone here.

My system (HP DV6446us/2GHz AMD64 Turion Dual Core/2GB/nVidia GeForce
7150M/160GB/32-bit Ubuntu 8.04.2) used to always malfunction when
suspending or resuming, however, now it seems like it chooses when to
actually function. It, at first, seemed like it had to do with luck,
but it seems that if I try to immediately resume the system, it
malfunctions, if I leave it for 5 minutes or so, it functions correctly,
but if I wait more than 10 minutes or so, it also malfunctions.

I know that everyone is trying to fix this for good, but I believe that
this information may come in useful for anyone trying to solve this bug,
knowing that time does seem to be an issue, at least for me.

Users of Ubuntu in general, and getting more and more specific until it
reaches users of Ubuntu 8.04.2 with the same hardware I have can attempt
to recreate this.

[Bug 378954] [NEW] Memory leakage when editing photos

2009-05-21 Thread GenBattle
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

Using Ubuntu 9.10 Jaunty with F-Spot 0.5.0.3

I was editing a large collection of photos (around 900 odd) when i found
that as i edited photos, each edit would cause more and more memory to
be used by F-Spot. Eventually it got up to about 4GB and i ran out of
system memory and swapfile (after editing an estimated 400 photos).

Evidently when the new version of the photo is made for editing it is
not deleted from memory once saved on the hard disk. A fairly major
memory leak i think.

[Bug 378861] Re: access errors when using tabs

2009-05-21 Thread Nordware
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nautilus

I wanted to import my files from a external drive to my internal ntfs drive,
where i store all my non-os-data.
So i opened the ntfs disk in the first tab and the external disk (ntfs, too)
in the second one.
- Now, if i right click in the window (first tab) and choose to make a new
directory, file or whatever, it is written to the folder un my external drive,
which i have opened in the second tab.
- Also, i cannot delete a file from the local disc because the external drive
is read-only.
+ Now, if i right click in the window (first tab) and choose to make a new
directory, file or whatever, it is written to the folder on my external drive,
which i have opened in the second tab.
+ (Also, i cannot delete a file from the local disc because the external drive
is read-only.)
+ Edit: The second drive is also writable but if i open them both in two tabs,
i cant delete files or folders on the first and the second drive.
If i open the two drives in two separate windows instead of tabs it works
alright.

I hope you understand what i mean, it is really difficult to explain.
Maybe i will record a video showing what happens and post a link...

[Bug 378976] [NEW] evince patch for multipage collated even odd sheets

2009-05-21 Thread Bartek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

This patch against evince_2.26.1-0ubuntu1 fixes the bugs people are
experiencing when printing

* multiple pages per sheet (lp107025)
* even and odd sheets (lp107025)
* multiple collated copies + multiple pages per sheet (lp282659)

In this context it is important to know that it behaves likes lpr with n-up and
even/odd options passed:
if you have a document with 5 pages and want to print 2 pages per sheet, MANUAL
duplex

print odd sheets:

{1,2} , {5}

flip sheets and print even sheets:

{3,4}

IE: you need to make sure to remove the sheet with page 5 from the
stack, evince will not produce empty sheets to fully automate the
process. This would be nice, but it would mess with other things.
Besides, it is the way multipage even odd printing works on other
platforms and the native GtkPrintOperation.

--

It does NOT solve bugs related to:

* multiple pages per sheet + reverse order (lp377102)
* the weird ordering of pages when pages_per_sheet = 6 (related to: lp328143)

as that would require a complete rethinking of the way the output is
assembled for printing.

--

It MAY solve:

* evince prints multiple (collated) copies as one job
* weird stapling behaviour with multiple copies

ie: lp258364

I'm not sure about this because as far as I can tell the multiple copies
are still sent as one print job, but by solving lp282659 we introduce
blank spaces on sheets so the two copies are clearly separated, it
depends on how the driver treats this.

Although this IS an upstream issue, upstream is completely reworking
EvPrintOperation to use GtkPrintOperation if possible (AFAIK). I will
submit an upstream bug but this patch could solve problems on ubuntu at
least.

The patch needs some testing though as there is potential for
regressions with duplex printers (as I don't have one to test) and there
is danger of a division by zero. (although I think the variable in
question is guaranteed to be nonzero, you never know with
multithreading)

2009-05-21 Thread Rocko
I've had this a occasionally with Jaunty, including just now, so it
isn't fixed. gnome-screensaver was taking up 99% of CPU while it
'checked my password'. Killing gnome-screensaver didn't work - the X
window didn't redraw itself, but just stayed stuck on a black screen
with a white box where the 'Checking your password' window used to be. I
had to reboot.

[Bug 378976] Re: evince patch for multipage collated even odd sheets

2009-05-21 Thread Bartek
I just realized that my printer (samsung ml-2010) has a duplex
functionality (for instance: collated, copies=2, print all pages, long
edge, pages per sheet=2) where the printer itself splits the job in two
and waits for the user to reinsert the pages and push a button. I can
confirm that this functionality is NOT broken by the patch and would
therefore assume that fully automatic duplex printers are not broken
either.

[Bug 379026] Re: I cannot update brasero

2009-05-21 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 379055] [NEW] Evolution Exchange Proxy miss-match with system

2009-05-21 Thread Slick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Preconditions:
System is Ubuntu Jaunty 32-bit with all updates
Network has a proxy and is configured automatically with a .pac file
The following apps run properly: Firefox, Pidgin, ping, apt-get, eclipse,
printing
No other apps seem to have a networking problem.

Problem:
When configuring evolution with exchange It can't resolve the address of the
OWA URL. The url is https://
When entering simple http:// a different error is encountered

Work Around:
Change the network preferences from use system setting to direct connection

Thoughts:
The .pac file only defines a single proxy that everything goes though (http,
https, and ftp). Firefox seems to pick up on this and is able to process https
traffic but it seems like evolution is not able to process https traffic
(thereby generating the bad url for the https url) since the website in an
internal site using a direct connection works and allows evolution to resolve
the address properly.
This condition is counter intuitive and should be looked into. The previous
setup of 8.04 with Evolution 2.24 did not have this problem so It is implied
that the new package has some slight incompatibility. Wether this lies withing
Evolution or within the packaging should be determined

[Bug 355755] Re: epiphany doesn't show favicon any more (some sites only)

2009-05-21 Thread Peter Bui
I've been having the same problem and after looking at the source, I
think the problem is that the mimetype database was updated to report
icons as image/vnd.microsoft.icon instead of image/x-ico. I
attached a patch in the upstream bugzilla:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=578575

This should fix the problem, at least it did for me (I rebuilt the

[Bug 379063] [NEW] inherit reminder feature is undocumented

2009-05-21 Thread Kyle Guilbert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When I get a meeting request in evolution 2.26.1, there's a new
checkbox: Inherit reminder. There is no documentation on this in the
online (in-application) manual and the wording is ambiguous. I did a
google search and found a feature request for this, but it still wasn't
clear what the purpose was. This needs clear documentation for non-
technical users.

[Bug 377246] Re: sync with google calendar loose alarm notification

2009-05-21 Thread rg
This is a problem for me as well. Ubuntu 9.04, Evolution 2.26.1.

Add a Google Calendar by any method (google, web, or CalDAV, though I
find that CalDAV works the best overall, see bug 183846). Create an
event in google's web interface. Once it syncs down to evolution there
is no way to have a local alarm for it.

I'm actually not so sure if the alarm set in Google should sync down, as
Roberto suggests -- this can be a problem for meetings, etc, with
multiple invitees. Not everybody wants to be subject to the alarm set by
the creator of the event (there was a long conversation about this
somewhere for sunbird). But with no local alarm whatsoever I am missing
meetings left and right.

In Apple iCal you can set a local alarm on a synced event, which is what
I think Evolution should ideally allow for. Right now the Alarm button
is disabled for events not created directly in evolution.

[Bug 225950] Re: [8.04] Drawing evolution window on screen very slow

2009-05-21 Thread Anthony M Simonelli
I don't have tracker running. I've also tried the same version (2.26)
on openSUSE from their community repository and it has the same exact
problem, so it seems to be an upstream problem? Ever since 8.04,
Evolution has been exhibiting a slow performance over ssh. Since LTSP 5
runs over SSH, this is why this problem occurs in a LTSP setup.

Oh yes, I forgot to add my $0.02
Critical system services should have a warning popup in this case.

This service should not be available to the average user

I agree, But I'm not average, and need I the access.
There needs to be a global setting for Expert, Power User, Novice user
interface levels, like Xine had.
Ubuntu is in danger of getting too dumbed down already.
I've burned a couple of hundred man hours since installing Jaunty tracking
down and working around
the various and sundry safety and security features, in order to get my
development work done.

Please do not install more default naderers, without identifying them

Anthony, you should try the lts.conf option LDM_DIRECTX = True to
disable SSH tunneling temporarily for your LTSP network. Reboot your
thin clients with that option and try again. If Evolution speeds up, you
can be certain that it's an SSH tunneling issue with Evolution rather
than simply a remote X issue.

[Bug 377246] Re: sync with google calendar loose alarm notification

2009-05-21 Thread rg
Slight modification to my previous comment -- after fixing the infamous
password issue the behavior is slightly, though not substantially,
different.

Google calendar synced with CalDAV.

1. Create event in Google web interface, set a popup alarm. When event
syncs to Evo, the alarm actually does show up in the Alarms pane of
the event detail. But no alarm ever occurs.

2. Create event in Google web interface. When event syncs to Evolution,
add an alarm to it in Evolution (event detail Alarms Add). This is
what I previously couldn't do, and I was excited for a minute. But it
still didn't trigger an alarm.

3. Use Evolution to create an event on the Google calendar. Set an alarm
in Evolution. Still no alarm occurs.

4. Create event on local On this Computer Personal calendar. Set an
alarm. This alarm goes off at the expected time.

What other info I can provide?

[Bug 379119] [NEW] file-roller does not recognise windows cp1250 encoding

2009-05-21 Thread VladimirCZ
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

Recognition of windows cp1250 encoding fails at archives compressed
under MS Windows into .zip or .rar format of compressed container, but
works well with .7z archives.

Examples attached:
1) Latina.7z ... compressed with the latest 7-zip software under MS Windows XP
SP3
2) Latina.zip ... compressed with the latest 7-zip software under MS Windows XP
SP3
3) Latina.rar ... compressed with WinRar 2.5 (no unicode support) software
under MS Windows XP SP3
The file-roller for
1) 7z: works well
2) zip: extraction done properly, but accented characters are replaced with ?
2) rar: extraction produces unusable files, when there is an accented character
in the path or in the filename of such files.

Detected under:
Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit with non-free unrar installed.

[Bug 379160] [NEW] Screen doesn't refresh on client

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vinagre

Hi,
Connection is ok with vinagre
(http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=2668171#p2668171), but the
display doesn't refresh once connected.
The actions are actually performed on ubuntu, but on my laptop (macbook pro),
screen keeps always the same.

We are several (french) users who encountered that bug on Ubuntu 9.04:
