Well Sebastien, I don't think that system log is directed to "everyone".
Obviously I also think 3d info is nowadays a useful info for a typical user;
let's think at a user that has problems to play a 3d game and want to discover
if, at least, 3d of his graphics card is enabled or not: in Windows or Mac is a
simple work to do and I don't understand why it's not possible to do the same
job in Ubuntu (under SUSE, at least until the version 10, this info was in the
display properties of yast).

[Bug 383845] [NEW] notebook backlight adjustments bug

2009-06-05 Thread [funky]
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I have an Ubuntu 9.04 on my laptop Acer Aspire 5310 with Intel GMA950 video
adapter.
Since I've upgraded from Ubunut 8.04.2 то 9.04 I've found a bug:
Displays backlight adjustments doesn't works correct when the
'gnome-power-manager' is running. When I'm pressing 'FN' + 'Brightest up/down'
keys backlight goes blinking and I can't adjust brightest as I want.
If the 'gnome-power-manager' is not running this bug doesn't appear. But I
want normal power management on my laptop, so I can't turn it off.

[Bug 383856] [NEW] GNOME Terminal locked up Ubuntu 9.04 when checking out at a subversion server, and changing keyboard shortcuts.

2009-06-05 Thread Jon Basniak
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

To further explained what happened, I was checking out on a subversion
server. While it was downloading, I went to change some keyboard
shortcuts. Next thing I know, everything suddenly became unresponsive.
Mouse didn't move, keyboard didn't respond, nothing.. caps lock and num
lock LEDs didn't come on as they should. I waited a few minutes to see
if it was lag, but I don't think it was. I can summarize what I did in
three steps.

1. Open GNOME Terminal
2. Type in "svn co svn://svn.openwrt.org/openwrt/packages/"
3. Hit the "Edit" menu, and then click on "Keyboard Shortcuts".

The window comes up and that's it. Even though I labeled this bug as
part of GNOME-Terminal, I bet there's more to it. For Linux to crash
that easily is beyond me. First time that has ever happened to me.

Here's my current setup:

OS: Ubuntu 9.04 32-bit fully updated June 5th @ 4:30AM.
Computer: Dell Inspiron b130
Processor: Intel Celeron M @ 1.60GHZ
RAM: 768MB DDR2

[Bug 383874] Re: birthday

2009-06-05 Thread Jeff Enns
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 383893] [NEW] nautilus dies upon opening an empty location

2009-06-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,

I've the same bug that's described here
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/213534) except
that once nautilus crashes, it does not restart.

I created a new bug ticket because the one I am refering to is closed
while my issue occurs on jaunty version.

Once nautilus is crashed down, mouse clicks on desktop does not bring
any menu and I cannot navigate through my folders (though save_as from
an opened application still works).

[Bug 381751] Re: segmentation foult

2009-06-05 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-
file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where
_my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 383893] Re: nautilus dies upon opening an empty location

2009-06-05 Thread Remy Damour
Hi,

attached is the backtrace and below is my nautilus version:
apt-cache policy nautilus
nautilus:
  Installed: 1:2.26.2-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 1:2.26.2-0ubuntu2

I hope the backtrace will be useful, I had a hard time getting it. When gdb was
running, nautilus froze (location popup box froze) without clearly dying as
usual and hitting ctr+c in gdb killed gdb => I called backtrace while nautilus
was frozen.
Anyway once dgb-stuff was over, nautilus was dead as usual.

Do not hesitate to ask if you need more info.
Regards,
Remy

[Bug 383927] [NEW] endless loading in nautilus / some files missing

2009-06-05 Thread a-blender-guy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

bug discription:
it often happens after moving some files or folders into another
(target-)folder. when the fileoperation is complete sometimes the
target-folder does not refresh, so I hit CTRL+R for a refresh. but then
nautilus does not get ready with loading this target-folder and does not
display every file in the folder. [the loading animation spins around and
around and around ...]
Even if I close nautilus and open the folder again it's the same: endless
loading an some files are missing.

no filesystem bug:
other filebrowsers work well (i've tested e.g. with konqueror and it shows
everything that's in the folder and everything is quite normal)
also in xterm "ls" shows all files and they are normally accessable

my silly solution:
I use e.g. konqueror: I create an empty folder in the
for-nautilus-problematic-folder and move the problematic-files (that are not
displayed in nautilus) into it. AND then in nautilus everything(!) works fine:
no endless loading end the files (that were missing before) are displayed in
the "new folder".

info:
-I think it does not matter what filetype the missing files are. (last time it
was a single .pdf file, but it's different every other time)
-the folder is on a ntfs partition mounted in my home folder (by UUID through
/etc/fstab)

I believe it's a new bug since 9.04 but I don't know.

[Bug 383893] Re: nautilus dies upon opening an empty location

2009-06-05 Thread A. Walton
If this crash is happening after you pressed Ctrl+L and the "Open Location"
dialog opens which the backtrace seem to indicate, then it should be fixed by
the commit here:
http://git.gnome.org/cgit/nautilus/commit/?id=2a005bc2c308e3960e723ed5cc8748f168acda17
Which is LP bug #378254. Not sure that has made it downstream to Ubuntu yet.

[Bug 383926] Re: ssh-aggent stopped accepting connections

2009-06-05 Thread Marius Gedminas
Checking a working GNOME session (on another machine) I see that
normally it's gnome-keyring that's listening on socket.ssh. I don't
have a gnome-keyring process running (and I don't see gnome-keyring-
daemon either). Neither ~/.xsession-errors nor /var/log/* have any
recent error messages from gnome-keyring (though the first is truncated
-- "...Too much output, ignoring rest..." -- since it's filled with some
strange Mono tracebacks from Migo.Syndication.RssParser).

[Bug 369541] Re: ctrl-d is too used to be the one to create a vinagre bookmark, and is not possible modify the shortcut

2009-06-05 Thread john pabisz

May I suggest making the shortcuts configurable, including enabling only the
ones we're interested in. Could be a gui, but even through a file that the
user edits is okay by me.

For example, I use xemacs constantly so all the shortcuts interfere. I
would like to remap just the full-screen button and disable everything
else (no shortcuts defined).

[Bug 383474] Re: gnome-terminal crashed on startup

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-
file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where
_my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 381084] Re: I do not obtain to configure the microphone in alsamixer

2009-06-05 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 380707] Re: brasero, bug after burning .iso

2009-06-05 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!
