[Bug 411790] [NEW] Nautilus crashes with gvfs-error on "connect to server"

2009-08-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Nautilus crashes while trying to open a connection to a server (tested:
SMB, SSH). An entry in .gvfs is made, so the server is visible under
places. However, trying to click / open it there, also crashes nautilus.

Running Nautilus from console reveals the following lines (I had to replace
some values due to company policies):
(nautilus:4473): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_file_info_get_name: assertion
`G_IS_FILE_INFO (info)' failed
** (nautilus:4473): WARNING **: Got GFileInfo with NULL name in
smb://[DOMAIN];[userna...@[server]/[SHARE]$/, ignoring. This shouldn't happen
unless the gvfs backend is broken.
(nautilus:4473): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion
`G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
(nautilus:4473): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_file_info_get_name: assertion
`G_IS_FILE_INFO (info)' failed
** (nautilus:4473): WARNING **: Got GFileInfo with NULL name in
smb://[DOMAIN];[userna...@[server]/[SHARE]$/, ignoring. This shouldn't happen
unless the gvfs backend is broken.
(nautilus:4473): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion
`G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

Unfortunatly, apport won't catch this error, although it is activate,
but I found a file in /var/crash which might correspond to this problem.
I can't send it though, since apport doesn't seem to take the https-
proxy-settings from gnome.

The error wasn't there on friday, so it might be an update that causes
this behaviour.

[Bug 411787] [NEW] Full screen mode does not work with Compiz.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

In the f-spot 0.6.0.0 build uploaded on August 10 to Ubuntu Karmic, and
with Compiz enabled, the full screen mode does not work for me. If I

that a window is created, and I can even see the fullscreen toolbar in
the bottom of the screen, but it is translucent. The picture itself is
not drawn.

[Bug 411761] [NEW] issues and crashes with evolution taskpad dates

2009-08-10 Thread Stephen Bell
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

In the latest karmic (11th Aug 09) with the evolution package
2.27.90-0ubuntu2 - this relates to changes in this recent package which
add options for the date display in the taskpad to follow the locale

The dates do follow my locale (LC_TIME="en_AU.UTF-8"), displaying
correctly as dd/mm/yy

However, when changing a date which is valid as dd/mm/yy or mm/dd/yy -
such as 11/08/09 (august 11) - the pop up calendar begins at 8th
november.

In addition, when double clicking on a task with a date such as 14/08/09
(which is valid as dd/mm/yy but invalid as mm/dd/yy) evolution locks up,
goes grey and will no respond.

[Bug 378403] Re: 1st call after launch of ekiga works perfectly, but after it's impossible to call, I had to close ekiga and restart it...

2009-08-10 Thread Yannick Defais
Hi,

Thank you for reporting.

Please attach a debug output:
Open a terminal and start ekiga using this command:
$ ekiga -d 4 2>output.txt
Wait until the registration succeed. Place the first call which will succeed.
Place the second call which will fail. Close Ekiga.
The output.txt file contains the debug output of ekiga you need to attach here.
This file should be in your home directory.

Best regards,
Yannick

[Bug 378403] Re: 1st call after launch of ekiga works perfectly, but after it's impossible to call, I had to close ekiga and restart it...

2009-08-10 Thread Ram Yalamanchili
I am experiencing the same issue. I am behind a NAT (wifi router) and
have a SIP account with ekiga.net

I can hear audio only on the first call when i try dialing out on Ekiga.
Subsequent calls dont work. I did try this with Twinkle and it worked
perfectly on multiple calls back-to-back.

The only way to get around this is to restart Ekiga. But that will only
get me one call the next time i try dialing.

There is only one SIP instance behind my router. The router doesn't have
any special ports opened up, but that shouldn't affect the basic working
of the client. Can you open this bug again and investigate the issue?

I am on ubuntu 9.04 (netbook-remix UNR) on an Acer Aspire One netbook.

[Bug 385850] Re: Ship fewer screensavers by default

2009-08-10 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
Tormod Volden included an updated version of the script in the Debian
bug, consolidating all the config stuff to one file. I've converted the
Ubuntu branch to use this. Please see the merge proposal:

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file

2009-08-10 Thread ham
@David: It's not a case of them against us. It is 2 clicks against a
double click. If this can be implemented in such a way that mistakes are
brought to a minimum and is not cumbersome for the majority then fine. I
can see that the title is "cannot rename by clicking on file" but mostly
the discussion have revolve around applying the standard from Windows.
If we are going to introduce some new renaming feature how would the
transition be easier for those used to the Windows convention compared
to the way things stand now (2 clicks nothing happens)? We can have a
single click trigger some visual aid that cues us that one more click
will rename but I don't know if that is not just as annoying.

[Bug 395943] Re: Brasero gives error "replace with supported .." when trying to write a data disc, Nautilus does the same.

2009-08-10 Thread jerryhoward
Reinstalled CD/DVDCreator which removed brasero. CD Creator worked by
using proper sequence of operations. Consider bug "solved" as it had
the same symptoms so was probably operator sequence error. jwh

2009-08-10 Thread polvoazul
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

paste this on your command line:

 7&7&7&7&

it tries to open 4 processes '7', probably it will output command '7' not found
4 times. Ok, this is expected.
but try doing this many times fast (by pressing up, enter, up enter)
sometimes it will crash the terminal.
or use a longer chain eg. 7&7&7&7&7&7&7&7&

sometimes it will crash on even small chains with 2 items, especially if
you have already 'enraged' the terminal session with a big chain.

Is this a security mechanism of the OS to block a process (gnome-
terminal) from using too many resources or is it just a bug?

Using Ubuntu 9.04, already tried that on 3 different computers (all
running Jaunty).

still).

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file

David, Mac OSX? Can you say how it's supposed to work? I click once and
I get a renaming dialog; then I click again and get what? How does that
rule out misunderstandings when, say, I'm a slow double-clicker?

Thank you for your help so far, I do not believe this problem to be
solved. I will try all of the suggestions and see what happens. I will
keep you apprised of any developments.

I would like to reiterate, that Ekiga on the dual boot system with Linux
8.10 worked as expected, I would always hear myself talk in every echo
test I did. No physical changes have been made to my computer systems,
except for trading the CRT monitors for LCD monitors.

My own test of the router will be this: I will connect the dual boot
computer directly to the modem and try again... see what happens.

So for now, until next time we meet,

Emanuel

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file

2009-08-10 Thread David Siegel
Controversial and non-trivial; not a paper cut.

The proposal was to allow renaming by clicking on a file, not to copy
Windows's implementation exactly -- if the implementation is poor in
Windows, that doesn't mean it would be in Nautilus. For example, Mac OS
X allows click to rename, and I've never heard a Mac user complain that
this feature ever does anything but allow users to rename files when and
only when they intend to do so. Please do not argue against a feature by
pointing at the same feature implemented poorly somewhere else; we
should take it as an opportunity for us to do well what they do poorly,
and outperform the others in a tangible, measurable way. Throwing up our
hands and basically saying "we'll never get it right if they can't" is
quite unhelpful.

Binary package hint: totem

Totem closes while attempting to resize or full screen the window; via
drag or double-click. However, on occasion it will squash an anamorphic
widescreen movie into a 4:3 full screen (everything is tall & thin).
Attempts to resize either remain squashed or close Totem altogether.

This only happens with actual DVD discs. I've been playing movies I
ripped to .avi (xvid & .AC3) without error.

I am using Ubuntu 9.04 and am a total noob...working on converting from
"Windoze" (advanced with that, so any translative language would be much
appreciated).

I followed some forum threads about installing codecs and upgrading
programs.

Please advise...

[Bug 411528] Re: evolution bad symlink in man1

2009-08-10 Thread Ryan
Why would you mark the bug incomplete? I provided the error, the
directory, and the output - the rest would be for the fix.

>From man maddb:
  : ignoring bogus filename
Themay or may not be a valid manual page but its
name is invalid. This is usually due to a manual page with sectional extension
being put in manual page section .

If you compare the other file names in the directory, I suspect the issue it is
complaining about is ending with .5.gz vs no number, or .1 for being in a man1
directory. To test that theory (didn't know I had to do that part to submit a
bug :) ):
# ln -s evolution.1.gz evolution-2.25.5.1.gz
# ls -l evo*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1157 2009-07-27 10:48 evolution.1.gz
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   14 2009-08-10 15:00 evolution-2.25.5.1.gz ->
evolution.1.gz
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   14 2009-07-27 16:21 evolution-2.25.5.gz ->
evolution.1.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 925 2009-07-27 10:48 evolution-addressbook-export.1.gz

# mandb -c
Processing manual pages under /usr/share/man...
Updating index cache for path `/usr/share/man/man1'. Wait...mandb: warning:
/usr/share/man/man1/evolution-2.25.5.gz: ignoring bogus filename
...
Does /not/ complain about evolution-2.25.5.1.gz - so it looks like the last
digit in the symlink is what makes it invalid for mandb.

[Bug 359975] Re: evince sometimes yield error "Error printing: Too many failed attempts"

2009-08-10 Thread Martin Schwenke
Well, that seems to remove any suggestion that this problem is HP-
related or driver-related. The Lexmark X560n looks to be a Postscript
printer:

  http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Lexmark-X560n

Not HP and no need for conversion from Postscript to some other wacky
format...

[Bug 374684] Re: Jaunty, cannot register to ekiga.net: preference asking to use STUN is not respected.

2009-08-10 Thread Yannick Defais
Hi,

You can find daily-build of live CD iso here:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

Do not install it as it is work in progress, just give it a try as a
live CD. As it seems Ekiga is not on the CD any more you'll need to
install it first.

Best regards,
Yannick

[Bug 411632] [NEW] Icon for "log out" applet truncated in vertical panels

2009-08-10 Thread technomancy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

In Jaunty Jackalope, putting the "log out..." applet in a panel with a
vertical orientation results in having its icon truncated. It looks like
two half-icons next to each other.

See attachment for an example.

[Bug 411606] Re: Ekiga is not responding after incoming call accept

2009-08-10 Thread Yannick Defais
Hi,

Ubuntu Karmic has Ekiga 3.2.5 which fix numerous issues including some
related to this issue. Could you give it a try? Maybe using a live CD?

You can try sip:5...@ekiga.net which is a "call me back" echo test.

Best regards,
Yannick
