[Bug 189288] Re: Couldn't open display computer:/// Places Computer

2009-08-16 Thread Dimitri
I've had this problem for the last 2 months. Can't access my Trash or
Computer folders.

Maybe it was something to do with the fact that I had upgraded from
Hardy to Ibex to Jaunty? (Although this problem didn't happen for at
least a couple weeks after I upgraded to Jaunty.)

I tried the recommendations from the following page, but that didn't fix it:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/233889

And, I shouldn't have to install an unstable daily build, just to trade
one bug for fifty new ones :)

I'm seriously considering re-installing Hardy from scratch, but if I
have to spend my weekend downgrading, just to avoid these bugs, I might
as well switch to a different distro or OS altogether, and be done with
it.

[Bug 8949] Re: Opening a deleted 'recent document' results in a new file.

2009-08-16 Thread Marcus Carlson
Removing items from the list before it's displayed is not really
possible. Think about remote shares that you have not saved the password
for, for example. And even if the file is local the file may disappear
after you have open the menu (check then act problem). Actually even if
we check the file right after you selected it if it exists or not, even
then it might be removed before the application has started (yes, I know
it's a small chance but it still can happen - eg your doing a large move
on a older that hasn't finished). So maybe the problem is within the
application themselves on how they should handle files that doesn't
exists? Gedit for instance creates a new file, OOo says the file doesn't
exist, Eog somehow says it doesn't exists.

[Bug 414392] [NEW] [karmic] applet not updating battery charge (still says 92% when down to 1%)

2009-08-16 Thread Gavin McCullagh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

On an acer aspire one, the battery light started flashing. I looked at
the gnome applet and it said the battery was 99.3% full. The /proc/acpi

I haven't managed to repeat this as yet. As soon as I plugged in the

correct figure for the battery.

[Bug 414402] [NEW] Does not suggest installing p7zip

2009-08-16 Thread Shahar Or
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

Dear friends,

Default Ubuntu doesn't install p7zip or p7zip-full.

When a .7z archive is double-clicked file-roller just spits out that it
is of an unsupported type.

I think that it would be most beneficial that file-roller would suggest
the installation of p7zip in this case.

Many blessings.

I'm using Evolution 2.24.2 and it crashes when I edit one of my two
configured accounts. I had 2 accounts working perfectly fine for a
while, and today I edited one of them. In Sending Email for one of
the accounts (IMAP), I changed the server from mail.example.com to
mail2.example.com:1863, after that I clicked on Check for
Supported Types button and chose GSSAPI (was PLAIN previously).
After that I clicked the OK button and Evolution crashed. I
restated Evolution, changed the settings to the old ones, they were
saved, but when I click OK Evolution still crashes (even if I
 don't change anything).

[Bug 414408] Re: nautilus segfault, error 4 in libc-2.10.1.so

2009-08-16 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-
file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where
_my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

This is NOT a duplicate of bug #228422, since that bug deals with CD

possible by primarily the artist and secondarily by the album name. That
solution does not fix bug #228422.

[Bug 259385] Re: [i845] Intrepid Compiz freezes on login for i845

2009-08-16 Thread jerrylamos
Guy,

Ubuntu developers simply blacklist compiz on 8.10 Intrepid and don't
start it on the affected processors. Same thing on 9.04 jaunty and 9.10
karmic. Compiz won't even start on the later ubuntu's for video drivers
that don't support compiz.

The CD's for various releases are easy to download if you want to try
them. Go to http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/cdimage/releases/ and take your
pick. I find the later releases have more features and run better with
some exceptions on some machines. karmic 9.10 is in process of
development so it has lots of problems still. Maybe that's why I run
it. The karmic A2 alpha 2 version of karmic isn't bad, A3 and A4 need a
bunch of workarounds to function. karmic doesn't release until October
so most bugs should be out by then.

By the way, compiz is eye candy and has nothing to do with internet,
word processors, spreadhseets, digital pictures, email, ... compiz adds
some inline graphics effects so it does slow down performance a bit.

What I did when booting CD on the levels that had trouble with compiz
was boot in recovery mode, i.e. at grub boot menu, do F6 then replace
quiet splash with single which boots in recovery mode. Then on the
recovery mode menu root prompt selection (might have to down arrow for
that selection) do apt-get remove compiz compiz-core. Then exit and
resume.

On /etc/X11/xorg.conf, what the developers decided was the default was good
for them so they decided not to put in an /etc/X11/xorg.conf for the rest of us
who are having problems. I copy one in from another ubuntu. If you want to
experiment, you could from the CD recovery mode root prompt:
nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Section Device
Identifier Configured Video Device
Driver vesa
EndSection
Ctrl-o
Ctrl-o
Ctrl-x
exit
resume boot

vesa is a default basic driver which on my pc's runs on i845, ati radeon
mobility 7500, ati radeon Xpress 200, but not on intel i830.

the desktop icons does disappear.
But when I check it it back, they do not reappear.

I must precise: It use to work before I try to change this value with

But now, when I try:

The icons disappear
:~$ gconftool-2 --get /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop

then I try

:~$ gconftool-2 --set /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop --type bool 1
The icons DO NOT reappear !!!
:~$ gconftool-2 --get /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop
:~$ true
even if the boolean value is set to true.

But it sounds like there is a way my destkop Icons can reappear.
When I start nautilus from she shell
but when I close this nautilus or close the shell, the Icons disappear again.

Do you have any ideas?

I'll keep an eye out for it again. It was quite cut and dried: I renamed the
file within the nautilus pane for burn:// and the burn went as planned. The
source file remained the same.

I try to reproduce this in Jaunty and for example: brasero
##fileaa##.txt works fine. If you drag and drop this file (text) into
 nautilus this also works.

I have tested with eog on the HP PhotoSmart C8100 on 4x6 photo paper and
for me the printout is correct.

Please make sure to select paper size and orientation with File/Page
Setup, the select File/Print and select the correct printer and
then check the tab Image Settings. Does the image on the page appear
correctly there? Or is it wrong already there?

Independent whether it is wrong already there or not, please attach your
printer's PPD file (from /etc/cups/ppd/).

[Bug 261450] Re: brightness Applet very slow and processors getting bisy when try adjust LCD brightness

2009-08-16 Thread rydberg
If your graphics cards have a high number of brightness levels, chances
are the problem is related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/gnome-power-manager/+bug/289520. Although that particular bug has been
fixed, the problem is still in effect when adjusting the brightness with
the keyboard. A patch to the karmic g-p-m is attached, which might fix
the problem for you. It can be installed from the mactel repository also
(2.27.5-0ubuntu2~mactel1). Visit https://launchpad.net/~mactel-
support/+archive/ppa for details.

[Bug 414503] [NEW] [karmic] Empathy plugin not actually built

actually built, even though it has all the build dependencies. Can't
find out the root cause though, I am no expert at autotools.

[Bug 414504] [NEW] nautilus works poorly with smb

2009-08-16 Thread LoonyPhoenix
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

Files won't open properly over the network: documents fail to open in
OpenOffice (it says file format error found); text files fail to open
(gedit says unexpected error: invalid argument); most archives won't
open (fileroller says Unexpected EOF in archive); files fail to copy to
the local system (in fact, they do copy, but on finishing the transfer
nautilus says Invalid argument).

However, playing audio and video files seems to work, even if copying
them still fails.

It seems to me as though the system can't access the final several
kilobytes (or megabytes) of any file.

I think this must be a bug in gvfs, but I might be mistaken.

[Bug 414509] [NEW] [karmic] Bluetooth plugin not initialised

Binary package hint: nautilus-sendto

The 'Bluetooth (OBEX Push)' is not working with nautilus-sendto. I have
gnome-bluetooth as well as obexd-client installed. I get the error show
in attached screenshot.

The reason probably is that bluetooth plugin is not getting initialised.
