Re: [Bug 396448] Re: inconsistent automounting on startup

2009-09-02 Thread Martin Pitt
komputes [2009-09-01 21:25 -]:
Yes, I updated last night (to the versions specifies in comment #20) and
rebooted this morning. I still get prompted to enter a password for the
secondary internal drive at the beginning of the gnome session.

OK, so this requires some deeper debugging then, as it is apparently a
different root cause than the one that everyone else had and which was
fixed now.

Please try the following command sets in the given order and check
which ones cause this dialog box to appear:

1.

   killall nautilus

2.

  kill `ps ux|grep usr/lib/gvfs|awk '{print $2}'`
  gvfs-mount -l

3.

  kill `ps ux|grep usr/lib/gvfs|awk '{print $2}'`
  killall nautilus

4.

 sudo killall devkit-disks-daemon
 killall nautilus

5.

  sudo killall devkit-disks-daemon
  kill `ps ux|grep usr/lib/gvfs|awk '{print $2}'`
  killall nautilus

Thanks,

Martin

[Bug 423018] [NEW] gnome-system-monitor uses too much CPU

2009-09-02 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

When opening gnome-system-monitor, the CPU is heavily used.
I will give you some examples on a core 2 duo P8600 2.4 Ghz.
I read the usage values in top from a command shell

TAB SYSTEM: 5-6% (constant usage)
TAB PROCESSES: 10-15% (constant usage)
TAB RESOURCES: 8-9% (constant usage)
TAB FILE SYSTEM: 8-9% (constant usage)

This is absolutely not justifiable, especially in the system and file system
tab.
Instead in the processes tab, the cpu usage should be similar to the one used
by top, which is 0~3%. Also top updates the processes list every 3 seconds,
exactly like the system monitor.

[Bug 385102] Re: Desktop is exposed from under screen lock after an Update Manager popup

2009-09-02 Thread dovik
I'm also concerned by this bug on a Dell OptiPlex GX520 with intel
integrated graphics GMA 950 and Compiz and every packages up to date.

(And it's very annoying when you were working on a sheet of ultra
secrets passwords before locked-in your screen)

Steps to reproduce :
1) Screen lock by : Ctrl + Alt + L
2) Wait for Update manager load (the screen is always locked)
3) Desktop appears (not a new kind of Pokémon)
4) Mouse or keyboard interaction : screen locked again

[Bug 363067] Re: F-Spot crashes during authorization when attempting Facebook export

2009-09-02 Thread telewatho
I compiled the (relatively) new F-spot from SVN

Jaunty, f-spot 0.5.0.3 --- bug
Jaunty, f-spot 0.6.0.0 --- bug fixed

It now works! Thanks developers!

However when compiling I had to work around the fact that the build-dep
mono dependencies for f-spot 0.6.0.0 were wrong in the Jaunty repos.
See other bugs on launchpad on compiling f-spot from svn

[Bug 423058] [NEW] [karmic regression] nautilus does not honor /system/storage/volumes mount point override

2009-09-02 Thread Per Ångström
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Migrating from Jaunty to Karmic (Alpha 4) I notice that nautilus does no
longer honor the mount points I have manually chosen for my removable
devices.

I have the following key, which worked in Jaunty:
/system/storage/volumes/_org_freedesktop_Hal_devices_volume_uuid_F0EA4C40EA4C04F6:
 mount_point=Passport

However, Karmic nautilus mounts the drive on media/WD Passport. I
also notice that the GUI for changing mount points has disappeared from
the Properties dialog.

I think this has to do with the move from HAL to DeviceKit.

[Bug 204567] Re: Downloads should go to ~/Downloads

2009-09-02 Thread mac_v
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xdg-user-dirs

XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR should be set to $HOME/Downloads instead of
  $HOME/Desktop in the file ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs.

This folder should be the default download location for firefox and this
folder should be bookmarked in nautilus by xdg-user-dirs-gtk (like
  Music,Videos,Pictures and Documents).

+ If the downloads are sent to the ~/Downloads folder , this makes it harder
,than earlier, to access the downloads.
+ - There also needs to be a bookmark in the Places menu to allow quick access.
+
  rationale :
  less cluttered desktop
still easy to find your downloads

- brainstorm link : http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/5281/

2009-09-02 Thread mac_v
Another problem is , this wont work properly for users , who upgrade. the xdg
folder ~/Downloads will not be added in the side pane.
For these users , they would have to manually add the bookmark to be listed in
the sidepane.

2009-09-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 423102] [NEW] xchat does not remember its position on dual screen setup

2009-09-02 Thread Michał Słaby
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

I have dual monitor setup here. If I click Xchat icon in tray it first
hides the window as expected. When I click it again it always re-appears
on the first screen, even if it was on the second one before it was
hidden.

To reproduce:
1. Open up Xchat
2. Drag and move it to your second monitor.
3. Click Xchat icon in tray to hide it.
4. Click it again to show it. It shows on the first monitor.

[Bug 423106] [NEW] gnome sound recorder ogg format static clicks in ubuntu 9.04

2009-09-02 Thread paul
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

gnome sound recorder appears to record in ogg format but on immediate
playback [without saving it to a file first] I hear mainly clicking
sounds and very very brief snippets [less than 10%] of what should have
been recorded and that was barely audible. Also during the record I
noticed the level to be lower on the meter than while recording with the
other 3 formats listed below. I also found first saving the ogg format
recording to a file and then playing it produced the same malformed
result and playing it in vlc sounded the same. Another oddity is that
once I used the ogg format and then any other recording format I tried
in the same record window also behaved the same with garbled play back,
however if I opened a new window and used any of the other three formats
[flac, wav, spx] they again worked fine.

recording in flac, wav and spx worked fine. This is on a T43p notebook
with ubuntu 9.04 installed.

I also download an ogg file online and asked gnome sound recorder to
play it and that played fine.

[Bug 423118] [NEW] [Karmic] Brasero says does not have permissions on completion of ISO burning, See #385396

2009-09-02 Thread scottr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

I get this error using brasero 2.27.91-0ubunutu1 on Karmic Alpha 4.
The ISO gets right to the end of the verification process (which it calls
burning, see #352816) and tells me i dont have the required permissions to use
the drive, but the ISO seems to have burnt fine (can open drive, and it runs
but haven't installed the OS off the disk)
Exactly the same as Bug #385396.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/385396

It would also be nice to have the program have the option to minimise to
the taskbar rather than the system tray and have the option of popping
the completion message to the front upon completion.

[Bug 423058] Re: does not honor /system/storage/volumes mount point override

2009-09-02 Thread Chris Coulson
This currently isn't supported by devicekit-disks (and might not ever
be). Specifying mount paths is really only useful for internal disks,
for which /etc/fstab is more flexible anyway. You can also easily change
volume labels now, which the mount points are based upon anyway.

[Bug 349094] Re: Printing fails. Works with other applications.

2009-09-02 Thread Birgir Haraldsson
Well, I manged to install karmic and updated fully.

I think this is partially fixed.

Here is the thing:
I set up two printers on a windows server. I allow guest to access the machine
remotely, but only Printer-A allows guest to connect to it (but not print).
Printer-B denies the guest to print.

When printing to Printer-B:
if AuthInfoRequired = none, then I get the authentication dialog, and when
successfully printed, cups changes AuthInfoRequired to username, password. (very
good thing)
also, when AuthInfoRequired = username, password, I get the authentication
dialog and everything works fine.
Note: gnome does not remember my password, but I guess that has something to do
with the gnome-keyring ??

When printing to Printer-A:
I do not get the authentication dialog, no matter what the AuthInfoRequired
says.
In cups/error_log I get Print-Job: Unauthorized, but I don't think it even
tries to connect to the win server.

In jaunty I have the same setup, but then printing to Printer-B, I get the
dialog only if AuthInfoRequired = none, else I get Can't prompt for
authentication.

Since I need to install 20+ machines in the next 2 weeks or so, I've
fixed this by having a script run every minute to set AuthInfoRequired
to none if needed and reload cups... this at least allows the users to
use the printers a bit

Hope this helps
