[Bug 426099] [NEW] Disc doesn't eject after burning; starts checksum again

2009-09-08 Thread beaker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

This was for Burn Image to Disc option w/ eject disc after burning
checked. Disc does get successfully burned, however instead of ejecting
and prompting for another task it appears to start re-calculating the
checksum (and time left grows). Clicking Cancel stops the bogus
checksum process and displays Successful burn (or something like
that).

Also (unrelated issue), the cover editor mucks up scaled background
images (basically doesn't scale them when printed). A minor thing but
kind of annoying.

Hope this helps...

[Bug 426112] [NEW] Ordner MUELL läßt sic h nicht leeren bzw. loeschen

2009-09-08 Thread Administrator
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Jerone Young [2009-09-07 20:26 -]:
 @Martin
The problem isn't to offer both eject umount.

Right, that's why gvfs wouldn't need to be changed.

The problem is that when you click the eject button in Nautilus. It
 completely disconnects the device.

Exactly. As far as I can see, devkit-disks should be a little less
aggresive and just do what /usr/bin/eject does, since you said that
this works.

[Bug 426121] [NEW] user switcher error

Graphical System Error
The graphical interface did not properly start, which is needed for
graphical logins. It is likely that the X Window System or GDM is not
properly configured.

The X server failed to finish starting.

[Bug 389940] [NEW] Allow Easy Customization of the Places menu

2009-09-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The Places menu is really useful, but finding how to edit (through
Nautilus' left column, after having selected Places in the upper
listbox) is a real challenge... I expected it to be possible through
direct handling : copy/paste, or right click on a element to edit/delete
it...

EDIT (June 22th, 2009)
In fact I'd like to be able to add/remove elements directly from this menu.
Several ways could be chosen : either a Manage places item in the menu, or
putting a contextual menu to the Places menu, with items that allow creating /
deleting a shortcut directly from there. The latter option is what I called
direct handling : I see an item I want to remove, I right click on it and I
can remove it.

[Bug 387830] [NEW] Gnome system menu should be better organized

2009-09-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The System menu is not intuitive, items are organized mostly by scope
(preferences vs administration) moreover there is a third menu in
Applications System Tools. It would be interesting to ask users in
which of the 3 menus they would expect to find a given application.

Applications that modify system-wide settings already require privilege
escalation, so there is no need to reiterate the concept in the menu
structure. Moreover this results in a lot of items grouped in a few
menus, making it even harder to find what one wants.

It would be more user friendly to have items grouped by task instead.
Gnome-control-center already follows a similar scheme, and its groups
could be used as a starting point.

I would personally recommend the following groups:

Look Feel
  Appearance
  Screensaver
  Windows
  Main menu
  Assistive Technology
  Keyboard shortcuts

Software:
  Software sources
  Update manager
  Package manager (g-a-i)

[Bug 426125] [NEW] Misleading message when deleting user using Users and Groups

2009-09-08 Thread Barry Klein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

Release: Jaunty
Package: gnome-system-tools 2.22.2-0ubuntu4
File: users-admin

Deleting a user gives the following message:

Are you sure you want to delete the account “username”?
This will disable this user’s access to the system without deleting the user’s
home directory.

If you delete the user, then try to add a user of that name, you get the
message:

User name “username” already exists. Please select a different user
name. This is related to bug 129443.

In fact, the “Delete” has deleted the user and the user's home directory
but not the user's group.

The message states that the user's home directory will not be deleted,
but it is deleted.

[Bug 426028] Re: cant load updates

2009-09-08 Thread Alex Lourie
Hi Brian

Thank you for you report. We appreciate your effort to report this issue
and make Ubuntu better.

To help us understand the problem, could you please elaborate on the
problem a bit? What do you mean by can't load updates ? Were the
bookmark lost from Nautilus or the browser?

Could you post an image where it shows without forward/back buttons?

Thank you.

Public bug reported:

While watching the following Hebrew document
(http://people.debian.org/~kaplan/free%20software%20cryptology.pdf) with

of it becomes boxes instead of glyphs

[Bug 426145] [NEW] image input box does not work in PDF form in evince

2009-09-08 Thread David Kaplan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I have a PDF form that includes a box at the bottom where you can add an
image to the PDF (typically a scan of your signature). In acroread,
hovering over this area turns the pointer into a hand and clicking open
up a dialogue to select an image file. In evince (2.26.1), hovering
over the area does turn the pointer into a hand, but clicking brings up

[Bug 426084] Re: crashes when changing directory name while thumbnails are being generated

2009-09-08 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 425394] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__VOID()

2009-09-08 Thread cYbercOsmOnauT
I started nautilus in the way described by the valgrind page and ran it
until the Segfault. On my machine I can reconstruct this error again and
again. All I need to do is to connect to my external hdd via ftp on a
second tab and move a bigger file (for example 1MB) from my local tab to
the external one. The move works fine. The file is still good but
Nautilus crashes with a Segmentation fault. Now again I tried it with
two different Nautilus windows and got the same result.

Only when I cut paste in the same nautilus window it works without a
crash.

I can try to create a new valgrind log and hope that the crash will be
in it then.

[Bug 426159] [NEW] Cannot log in via gdm

2009-09-08 Thread Lars Wirzenius
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

(gnome-session is merely a guess at the right package.)

My desktop machine, which runs karmic (and is up to date as of about
half an hour ago), won't let any account except my own log in. I created
a brand new account (tomjon), and reproduced the problem there. I will
attach the .xsession-errors file for tomjon.

The actual login works, and the session is started, but fails before the
login completes and before the GNOME desktop shows up. Instead, the gdm
greeter comes back. There are no user-visible error messages on the
screen, one has to dig them out of .xsession-errors.

[Bug 376744] Re: Split gnome-games into one game per package

2009-09-08 Thread Martin Pitt
There are still several major problems with the split. For the learning
effect towards ubuntu-core-dev I'll let you fix them yourself:

W: gnibbles: non-standard-setuid-executable-perm usr/games/gnibbles 2555

(lots of them). Debian Policy mandates 2755 (http://www.debian.org/doc
/debian-policy/ch-files.html#s10.9)

W: gnibbles: games-package-should-be-section-games
(lots of them). Just change it in debian/control.in to quiesce lintian and be
more policy conformant.

E: gnibbles: extended-description-is-empty
(lots of them) would be nice to get at least one standard sentence about part
of gnome games collection and a single-liner what the game is about.

W: same-gnome: pkg-not-in-package-test gnome-games /usr/share/menu/same-gnome
(lots of them) see lintian -i, something wrong in the .menu file? If that isn't
a regression from the split, don't bother

W: gnotravex: menu-command-not-in-package /usr/share/menu/gnotravex:3
/usr/games/gnotski
W: gnotravex: menu-icon-missing /usr/share/pixmaps/gnotski.xpm

If that 's not a regression, then nevermind; would be nice to fix,
though, of course.

E: gtali: package-has-no-description

E: gnome-games-servers: arch-independent-package-contains-binary-or-object
./usr/lib/ggz/gnectd
E: gnome-games-servers: arch-independent-package-contains-binary-or-object
./usr/lib/ggz/gnibblesd
E: gnome-games-servers: arch-independent-package-contains-binary-or-object
./usr/lib/ggz/iagnod
E: gnome-games-servers: missing-dependency-on-libc needed by
./usr/lib/ggz/gnectd and 2 others

This is a grave bug, please switch to arch: any and add shlibs:Depends.

W: gnome-freecell: menu-command-not-in-package /usr/share/menu/gnome-
freecell:3 /usr/games/sol

Indeed the binary is missing completely from the .deb. The package is
also marked as arch: all, which is wrong.

[Bug 12153] Re: Cannot use Windows key in keyboard shortcuts

2009-09-08 Thread Aidan Fitzpatrick
Sebastien

Upstream suggested it's an issue in xkeyboard-config _if_ the
/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/pc file provided didn't work.

I have just tested the file that Sergey attached to the upstream and it
works perfectly.

I think it's reasonable to assume the problem is our xkeyboard-config
symbols/pc files are out of date.

Frustratingly, both the default file on Jaunty and the newer, working
file that Sergey sent have the same timestamp: // $XFree86:
xc/programs/xkbcomp/symbols/pc,v 1.9 2003/06/09 19:59:46 dawes Exp $

How can we get the distro symbols/pc file updated?

[Bug 426170] Re: Nautilus as sudo segfaults

[Bug 426176] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon resets keyboard layout

2009-09-08 Thread Frederik Eaton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

Hello,

I find that under recent versions of Ubuntu, gnome-settings-daemon
frequently resets my keyboard layout, which I have successfully
configured using xmodmap for the past seven years. This happens for
example when (1) I unplug the keyboard, and plug it back in again; (2) I
suspend and resume the computer; (3) I run the command

sudo modprobe -r thinkpad_acpi sudo modprobe thinkpad_acpi

I blame gnome-settings-daemon for this problem, because it doesn't occur
unless gnome-settings-daemon is running. I need to run gnome-settings-
daemon to prevent the text cursor from blinking in many applications
that I use, which drives me crazy. I need to change the keyboard with
xmodmap because I have reconfigured certain keys, and that is also how I
switch between QWERTY and Dvorak when someone else wants to use my
computer.

Is there a way to ask gnome-settings-daemon to respect the current
xmodmap settings? Or should I now be using some Gnome version of
xmodmap? Or can I disable cursor blinking in Gnome applications without
running the daemon? If the answer to all of these questions is no,
then that is the bug which I am reporting.

Thank you,

Frederik

That's not a bug. If you want gnome-settings-daemon to not manage your
keyboard layout, then you can disable the keyboard plugin with a gconf
settings (/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/keyboard/enabled off the
top of my head)

[Bug 425394] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__VOID()

2009-09-08 Thread cYbercOsmOnauT
I started a XFCE session and did it again. The following is what I see
on the terminal when the crash occurs.

(nautilus:25259): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_strsplit: assertion `string !=
NULL' failed

(nautilus:25259): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_strv_length: assertion `str_array !=

I believe that the log will still not show any helpful information But I
better put it in again.

[Bug 425621] Re: evolution hangs when opening multiple notes

2009-09-08 Thread Thomas Lauckner
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: evolution

- Evolution crashes when trying to open multiple notes.
+ Evolution hangs when trying to open multiple notes.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. start evolution
  2. go to notes (or whatever that is: I have Notizen)
  3. Ensure you have at least two notes inside.
  4. Open the first note via double-click
  5. close it again
  6. try to open the second note: Evolution stops responding

Perhaps I should mention: The notes got into evolution vial gpilot
synchronization with my palm os. But when adding a new note from
  evolution, the same problem occurs.

  Using ubuntu karmic
  evolution 2.27.91-0ubuntu1
  gnome-pilot 2.0.17-0ubuntu2
  gnome-pilot-conduits 2.0.15-1.2

  apport doesn't report no crash.
I don't know how to use gdb. When starting gdb evolution (and then run),
I get these messages after opening and closing the first note:

  ===
  [New Thread 0xb36f8b70 (LWP 10824)]

  (evolution:10798): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: cannot register existing
  type `CompEditor'

assertion `IS_COMP_EDITOR (editor)' failed
  [Thread 0xb36f8b70 (LWP 10824) exited]
  ===

And those while trying to open the second note:
  ===
  [Thread 0xb36f8b70 (LWP 10824) exited]
  [New Thread 0xb36f8b70 (LWP 10826)]

  The program no longer exists.

As you can see, I had to terminate evolution after the second attempt.
Gnome grayed it out and informed me evolution was not responding any
  more.

[Bug 412152] Re: gnome-disk-utility nags me too much that my disk is failing

2009-09-08 Thread DjDarkman
I don't think that this is helpful I don't understand what it's trying
to say, so it's basically useless to me, but that's not my problem, my
problem is that I don't know how can I easily disable it.

This tool reported every drive to be defective, even the one that was
only run for 30 days.

The strange thing is that I have yet to experience any data loss or
other problems, so I believe that this tool is extremely inaccurate.

If this tool is so inaccurate, how come it's enabled by default anyway?
If this only works correctly for some drives why does it checks drives
that it can't scan correctly.

I recommend disabling this tool by default and putting an option for
enabling it it the system settings, otherwise it will really annoy users
and wast their CPU cycles of course.
