[Bug 426099] [NEW] Disc doesn't eject after burning; starts checksum again
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero This was for Burn Image to Disc option w/ eject disc after burning checked. Disc does get successfully burned, however instead of ejecting and prompting for another task it appears to start re-calculating the checksum (and time left grows). Clicking Cancel stops the bogus checksum process and displays Successful burn (or something like that). Also (unrelated issue), the cover editor mucks up scaled background images (basically doesn't scale them when printed). A minor thing but kind of annoying. Hope this helps... [Bug 389940] [NEW] Allow Easy Customization of the Places menu
You have been subscribed to a public bug: The Places menu is really useful, but finding how to edit (through Nautilus' left column, after having selected Places in the upper listbox) is a real challenge... I expected it to be possible through direct handling : copy/paste, or right click on a element to edit/delete it... EDIT (June 22th, 2009) In fact I'd like to be able to add/remove elements directly from this menu. Several ways could be chosen : either a Manage places item in the menu, or putting a contextual menu to the Places menu, with items that allow creating / deleting a shortcut directly from there. The latter option is what I called direct handling : I see an item I want to remove, I right click on it and I can remove it. ** Affects: hundredpapercuts Importance: Undecided Status: Won't Fix ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: ayatana places-menu usability -- Allow Easy Customization of the Places menu https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/389940 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 387830] [NEW] Gnome system menu should be better organized
You have been subscribed to a public bug: The System menu is not intuitive, items are organized mostly by scope (preferences vs administration) moreover there is a third menu in Applications System Tools. It would be interesting to ask users in which of the 3 menus they would expect to find a given application. Applications that modify system-wide settings already require privilege escalation, so there is no need to reiterate the concept in the menu structure. Moreover this results in a lot of items grouped in a few menus, making it even harder to find what one wants. It would be more user friendly to have items grouped by task instead. Gnome-control-center already follows a similar scheme, and its groups could be used as a starting point. I would personally recommend the following groups: Look Feel Appearance Screensaver Windows Main menu Assistive Technology Keyboard shortcuts Software: Software sources Update manager Package manager (g-a-i) Advanced package manager (synaptic) Preferred applications Software languages (language support) Computer Janitor Hardware: Hardware drivers Display Keyboard Mouse Sound Printing Default Printer Bluetooth System testing Networking: Network connections Network tools Network proxy Remote desktop Firewall Storage: Backup Partitioning tools Search and indexing Compression Disk usage Synchronization Users Groups: Login Window Users and Groups Authorizations About me Encryption and Keyrings Passwords and Encryption Keys System: Log file viewer System monitor Services Power management Terminal USB Startup Disk Creator Time and Date Help Help and Support About Ubuntu About Gnome ** Affects: hundredpapercuts Importance: Undecided Status: Won't Fix ** Affects: gnome-menus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: ayatana -- Gnome system menu should be better organized https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/387830 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-menus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. [Bug 425394] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__VOID()
I started nautilus in the way described by the valgrind page and ran it until the Segfault. On my machine I can reconstruct this error again and again. All I need to do is to connect to my external hdd via ftp on a second tab and move a bigger file (for example 1MB) from my local tab to the external one. The move works fine. The file is still good but Nautilus crashes with a Segmentation fault. Now again I tried it with two different Nautilus windows and got the same result. Only when I cut paste in the same nautilus window it works without a crash. [Bug 426159] [NEW] Cannot log in via gdm
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-session (gnome-session is merely a guess at the right package.) My desktop machine, which runs karmic (and is up to date as of about half an hour ago), won't let any account except my own log in. I created a brand new account (tomjon), and reproduced the problem there. I will attach the .xsession-errors file for tomjon. The actual login works, and the session is started, but fails before the login completes and before the GNOME desktop shows up. Instead, the gdm greeter comes back. There are no user-visible error messages on the screen, one has to dig them out of .xsession-errors. There are still several major problems with the split. Sebastien Upstream suggested it's an issue in xkeyboard-config _if_ the /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/pc file provided didn't work. [Bug 426170] Re: Nautilus as sudo segfaults
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 426176] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon resets keyboard layout
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon Hello, I find that under recent versions of Ubuntu, gnome-settings-daemon frequently resets my keyboard layout, which I have successfully configured using xmodmap for the past seven years. This happens for example when (1) I unplug the keyboard, and plug it back in again; (2) I suspend and resume the computer; (3) I run the command sudo modprobe -r thinkpad_acpi sudo modprobe thinkpad_acpi I blame gnome-settings-daemon for this problem, because it doesn't occur unless gnome-settings-daemon is running. I need to run gnome-settings- daemon to prevent the text cursor from blinking in many applications that I use, which drives me crazy. I need to change the keyboard with xmodmap because I have reconfigured certain keys, and that is also how I switch between QWERTY and Dvorak when someone else wants to use my computer. Is there a way to ask gnome-settings-daemon to respect the current xmodmap settings? Or should I now be using some Gnome version of xmodmap? Or can I disable cursor blinking in Gnome applications without running the daemon? If the answer to all of these questions is no, then that is the bug which I am reporting. When starting gdb evolution (and then run), I get these messages after opening and closing the first note: === [New Thread 0xb36f8b70 (LWP 10824)] (evolution:10798): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: cannot register existing type `CompEditor' (evolution:10798): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_once_init_leave: assertion `initialization_value != 0' failed (evolution:10798): calendar-gui-CRITICAL **: e_comp_editor_registry_add: assertion `IS_COMP_EDITOR (editor)' failed [Thread 0xb36f8b70 (LWP 10824) exited] === And those while trying to open the second note: === [Thread 0xb36f8b70 (LWP 10824) exited] [New Thread 0xb36f8b70 (LWP 10826)] [Thread 0xb36f8b70 (LWP 10826) exited] [Thread 0xb4769b70 (LWP 10819) exited] [Thread 0xb4fabb70 (LWP 10810) exited] [Thread 0xb5bfdb70 (LWP 10809) exited] [Thread 0xb63feb70 (LWP 10808) exited] [Thread 0xb755cb70 (LWP 10806) exited] [Thread 0xb7d5db70 (LWP 10805) exited] [Thread 0xb4f6ab70 (LWP 10817) exited] Program terminated with signal SIGKILL, Killed. The program no longer exists. (gdb) bt No stack. === As you can see, I had to terminate evolution after the second attempt. Gnome grayed it out and informed me evolution was not responding any more. I'd love to add any useful information if you request it. I was unable to getoutput from gnome-session --debug 21 | tee gnome-session-debug.log from tty# I had to killall gnome-panel than i can run it. Also note about first comment. none of the launchers will load apps without using killall gnome-panel -- gnome-panel fails to fully load https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/426185 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 412152] Re: gnome-disk-utility nags me too much that my disk is failing
I don't think that this is helpful I don't understand what it's trying to say, so it's basically useless to me, but that's not my problem, my problem is that I don't know how can I easily disable it. This tool reported every drive to be defective, even the one that was only run for 30 days. The strange thing is that I have yet to experience any data loss or other problems, so I believe that this tool is extremely inaccurate. If this tool is so inaccurate, how come it's enabled by default anyway? If this only works correctly for some drives why does it checks drives that it can't scan correctly. I recommend disabling this tool by default and putting an option for enabling it it the system settings, otherwise it will really annoy users and wast their CPU cycles of course. -- gnome-disk-utility nags me too much that my disk is failing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/412152 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-disk-utility in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
