[Bug 219385] Re: File filters can make file selection dialog too wide for screen

2009-10-14 Thread Javier Acuña Ditzel
As Martin Brook said, it actually happens on netbooks. And not only for
the dialog width but the height as well, as you can see in the snapshot.
So, I suggest to consider both aspects.

I use an HP Mini 110 (1024×576)

[Bug 428884] Re: Vlc does not inhibit screensaver

2009-10-14 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Xtophe (from vlc upstream) suggested that debian bug #541968 and gnome
bug #579430 may be relevant. I've checked the proposed patch to gnome-
screensaver, and it indeed seems that vlc is using a function in gnome-
screensaver that has been replaced by a stub (well, rather a FIXME).

If gnome-screensaver is detected, VLC sends the "Poke" and
"SImulateUserActivity" signals in modules/misc/screensaver.c, function
poke_screensaver. "Poke" does not seem implemented at all, and
"SimulateUserActivity" leads to this function:

static void

gs_monitor_simulate_user_activity (GSMonitor *monitor)

{

/* FIXME: reset the xsync timer? */

/* request that the manager unlock -

will pop up a dialog if necessary */

gs_manager_request_unlock (monitor->priv->manager);

}

I agree with xtophe that the proposed patch from the gnome bug could
help here. Would someone please try that patch out?

[Bug 451861] [NEW] evince displays distorted text in some documents

2009-10-14 Thread Amr Hassan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Evince sometimes displays text in documents in a very distorted and
annoying form, here's what I mean in screenshots.

This is a page of the book in google docs:
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/197580/distorted_evince/gdocs.jpg

and this is how it looks like in evince:
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/197580/distorted_evince/evince.jpg

and here's the actual book:
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/197580/distorted_evince/book.pdf

It happened to me several times before with many books and I used to
think that the books were corrupted until I uploaded the book to google
docs and found it intact.

[Bug 451852] [NEW] Audio crashes on reboot

2009-10-14 Thread santiagocajiao
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 and I have a SB Audigy SE sound card, for that
reason I also have the ALSA sound drivers as well as the CA0106.

The problem is that the sound does not work anytime I start Ubuntu.
When I try to play music the player (Rhythmbox) looks like playing but I
can't hear any sound. The same thing happens when I test the drivers in
the system options.

So I have to reboot the system and sometimes the sound comes back,
sometimes don't. I've also tried to work with Pulseaudio but new other
bugs appear and not all the apps support Pulseaudio, so I decided to
continue with ALSA.

[Bug 451824] Re: Login Screen cannot be configured for standard username/password login scheme only

2009-10-14 Thread Matthew Lye
Can be disabled from gconf-tool2 via setting /apps/gdm/simple-
greeter/disable_user_list to true.

This should be an option in the control panel for Login.

This method also provides a poor user experience in comparison to
previous versions of Ubuntu.

[Bug 446395] Re: Screen lock unlocks after 5 wrong attempts

2009-10-14 Thread Kees Cook
Thanks everyone. I think Chris Coulson is digging into this -- it seems
like some kind of race between the password dialog shutting itself down
every 5th attempt and the main gnome-screensaver process trying to kill
it. Or something is causing a pixmap to get displayed after it has been
removed (maybe during the dialog shake animation?)

[Bug 451824] [NEW] Login Screen cannot be configured for standard username/password login scheme only

2009-10-14 Thread Matthew Lye
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Ubuntu Karmic (Beta Release Branch) 9.10

While the login has had several improvements it also has a critical
regression issue. You cannot have the login configured (as far as I can
tell) to only give the old username and password option without
supplying users to click.

This becomes a massive issue when the valid users for the machine total
to over 3000 due to networked login options. This is a problem that used
to occur with the Fast User Switching applet as well, but that could be
disabled.

It is critical that Karmic has the capacity to have a login screen configured
to only show
Username:

[Bug 306310] Re: Resume (from memory) goes back to sleep automatically

2009-10-14 Thread Elie Charest
I'm running current Karmic on a Dell Mini 10v.

The problem is intermittent - in fact, I've been trying to reproduce it
for an hour. Now that I *need* for it to happen, of course, it's not...
:-/

I can tell, however, that the system runs fine after waking up a second
time. I remember it happening at lunch, i.e. when I open my laptop after
more than 12 hours of it being off. I'll keep acpi_listen running and
see if it happens tomorrow, then post the output here - or actually open
a new bug with apport...I assume the package handling suspend/resume is
still called gnome-power-manager?

(BTW didn't know about acpi_listen, cool little utility! It would have
been handy to debug the more serious suspend/resume problems I had with
my previous laptop...)

If i got the movie, save locally, and play it from my computer, the

[Bug 445141] Re: Podcasts don't download if the files are all the same filename.

2009-10-14 Thread NoBugs!
As an example, try adding this podcast (or almost any other itunesU based
podcast)
http://deimos3.apple.com/WebObjects/Core.woa/Feed/cmu.edu.1335575211.01335575214
Now right click, download an episode, then right click another, download,
repeat...
Notice that it says several episodes are downloaded, yet when you play them
they are actually all the same one.
Also, go to the podcast's folder, it will only have one file, named enclosure.

[Bug 446395] Re: Screen lock unlocks after 5 wrong attempts

2009-10-14 Thread happyhamster
I see this happening on an Intel and an ATI/AMD machine:
- Toshiba laptop, Intel GM45, xserver-xorg-video-intel driver
(2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2).
- Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H with ATI HD4200, xserver-xorg-video-radeon driver.

There doesn't seem to be any clear pattern to triggering the bug:
sometimes it happens after 5 tries, sometimes after 40. Fast/normal/slow
typing and the number or type of characters used for input don't seem to
matter. I've seen the bug trigger about 30 times now, which is hardly
enough to be able to say anything definite however.

Attached: laptop info + backtrace. (Nothing additional about the ATI
machine I'm afraid, because all the debug-packages completely filled the
root partition. Bleh.)

Ok this 'Terminal' plug-ins was sidelined lately... But I don't see any
bug. Maybe can you launch cairo-dock from a terminal in order to have
more details when you click on the icon ?

> "some of the bugs could be sped up if the package was bit more clear"
It's certainly a good idea but can you explain a bit more about what you think?
The Help module isn't so clear? Or the organisation of the menu? Is it better
to have a new entry with all shortcuts in the menu of the applet? Or simply
rename the 'About' entry?
Everybody can give us some ideas and propositions in order to have a better
application ;)

[Bug 451759] [NEW] Nautilus does not list all files if folder contains movies or images

2009-10-14 Thread Daniel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

If i open a folder with some movies in nautilus (In a test case only one .wmv
of ~40MB), not all contents are shown. I suppose nautilus is trying to make
Thumbnails or get other meta information. If I open the folder directly (List
view), I get an hourglass mouse cursor, but the windows does not block.
If I look into the folder by clicking the arrow between a folder icon (one
level above), I do not get a special cursor but also do not see all files.
If I open the same folder in a second window, all contents are shown then.

Imagine you have 3 files: x.txt, z.wmv and c.jpg
You open the folder and see only x.txt and (sometimes) the hourglass cursor.
You may decide to remove the folder and will remove content that you did not
want to kill...

The order of files processed is not sorted. I think the problem is very
internally in the near of getting the list of files from the file
system.

File system in my case: ext3

[Bug 451613] Re: all disks and partitions are automounted in the live session

2009-10-14 Thread Martin Pitt
So, let's first confirm that it is nautilus, and not something else.
Please boot the live CD, unmount all the partitions, then log out and
back in in gdm with the "xterm" session. Run "metacity &" to get a WM,
and perhaps "gnome-terminal" to get a multi-tab terminal.

Run "gnome-mount -oi" in one terminal, and then first check in another
if you get any automounts (then it'd be gvfs, but I don't quite believe
that). Then start nautilus, and check again if that mounted your drives.
After that, please copy&paste the "gnome-mount -oi" output (just in
case; I figure it will just show that the partitions where mounted, but
let's see).

Thanks!

[Bug 446395] Re: Screen lock unlocks after 5 wrong attempts

2009-10-14 Thread Alexander Karlstad
I was able to lock the screen again after just running "gnome-
screensaver" without any arguments.

The bug appeared again, and this time I got the output from the command
"gnome-screensaver-command -l":

> The program 'gnome-screensaver' received an X Window System error.
> This probably reflects a bug in the program.
> The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'.
> (Details: serial 1551 error_code 9 request_code 53 minor_code 0)

>that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
>To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
>option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
>backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 451710] [NEW] no resume after connection time out

2009-10-14 Thread phil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

it's not like a bug, it seems to be, that there is a missing feature: if you'll
get a connection timeout while copying data from local drive to a networkdrive,
you'll get two options, except of cancel.
- skip, or
- skip all...

what about a "resume"-button or "try again?"

i'm not sure, why the connection is timed out so often, but i'm missing
files when i'm using skip...

[Bug 451567] Re: exit command on terminal does not close terminal

2009-10-14 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Hello Daily.
Thanks to have reported this bug but I think it's not a bug. If I understand
well what you say you just want to quit the new terminal displayed with a click
on 'Terminal' plug-in's icon of Cairo-Dock? If it's what you want, make a
middle click on the Terminal's icon (for other shortcuts, simply let your mouse
on the icon of any plug-ins in the config panel).
On the other hand I don't have this bug (the 'exit' command works well) but
yes, there is this message when you reopen this terminal "Shell exited. Another
one is launching.."

[Bug 306310] Re: Resume (from memory) goes back to sleep automatically

2009-10-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Elie, please show the output of acpi_listen running across a
suspend/resume test when you get the dual suspend. Also, you may want
to open a new bug report, since this bug has been fixed for some time
and no one has reported any recurrences of it.

What kind of laptop is this on?

[Bug 446395] Re: Screen lock unlocks after 5 wrong attempts

2009-10-14 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Like Kees Cook, after five attempts, the login dialog goes away, but
doesn't unlock. However, if I persist in using the wrong password, it
does in fact unlock.

An interesting fact: afterwards, I'm no longer able to lock the screen
using alt+ctrl+L. (Which I was the first time)

[Bug 197290] Re: 2 gb max inbox

2009-10-14 Thread akolahi
My work around was to create subfolders such as 2004, 2005, 2006 etc and
move mail from those dates to the respective folder. Then from folder
click on Expunge.

My original hesitation in doing this was that i worried that moving
items to a sub-folder and 'expunging' them, would delete them from the
server (like in IMAP). Since i'm using pop3 and have the setting to
leave a copy on the server... it appears to not mess things up on the
server, but only make the change locally.

[Bug 197290] Re: 2 gb max inbox

2009-10-14 Thread mosu
Also present in Debian unstable :)
Evolution 2.28.0

and I just had a laugh on a friend with outlook showing same problem
(mailbox exceeded 2G and unable to receive further emails)

I solved my problem by creating some folders and filtered mails to go
into that folders followed by empty trash action. Inbox size decreased
at the end at 1.2G, now it works like a charm. Still an unpleasant
surprise .

Regards
