Pushed a patch to lp:~robert-ancell/seahorse-plugins/bug-429322 with a candidate patch as a SRU proposal. However, I'm not sure if this patch is useful because: - None of the bug reports seem to be indicating this crash is causing any problems. The diagnosis and reproduction by Chris only shows it occurring at shutdown (presumably after any useful shutdown actions have occurred). - Users of Karmic final will not have apport enabled and therefore not see this report The biggest problem seems to be Launchpad and Apport spamming everyone when a duplicate is detected. [Bug 478933] [NEW] totem hangs frequently and for a long time
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem Totem hangs whenever I open it, whenever I open a new file, and whenever I save preferences. It hangs for over a minute, with the interface completely locking up. It only started doing this since I upgraded to Karmic--totem worked fine in Jaunty. It does this with any or no files open, and even if I disable all the plugins. Playback still works fine while the interface is locked up, and embedded videos in Firefox that use the totem plugin don't have this problem. I can't determine what it's trying to do that causes the hang. $ uname -a Linux mediaopty 2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 16 14:04:26 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 9.10 Release:9.10 $ apt-cache policy totem totem: Installed: 2.28.1-0ubuntu4 Candidate: 2.28.1-0ubuntu4 Version table: *** 2.28.1-0ubuntu4 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Mon Nov 9 01:25:35 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/totem NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: totem 2.28.1-0ubuntu4 ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-14.48-generic SourcePackage: totem Uname: Linux 2.6.31-14-generic i686 ** Affects: totem (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 -- totem hangs frequently and for a long time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/478933 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 457539] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in g_object_set_valist()
I am able to get this by moving the Rhythmbox built-in volume slider up and down while playing music. I've only been testing with "internet radio" type sources. I ran apport to get the dump and was going to report it against bug 333889 but got matched up with the g_object_* crowd. The first time it crashed it wiped out my Radio list like bug 298926. The first two times it crashed it seems it was as I lifted the volume up from zero like bug 475625. After enabling apport to get the dump file it took a lot longer to get it to crash and this time it seems it was about half way down while lowering the volume. -- rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in g_object_set_valist() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/457539 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 475985] Re: Rhythmbox unable to play mp3 files in the music library
I found this bug appeared after an upgrade to Karmic from Jaunty. The autoaudiosink plugin should be in gstreamer-plugins-good, which is installed and I also tried re-installing it to no avail. None of the other players work either and gnome-volume-control can't start up - says it can't find the sound device. The card ( VIA ac97) shows when I use lspci | grep sound and aplay -l shows the device as working. Alsamixer would not load until I changed permissions of /dev/snd/* to 777. All in all, it seems to be a more deepset issue than just rhythmbox. -- Rhythmbox unable to play mp3 files in the music library https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/475985 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 437429] Re: No GUI to configure/disable login sound
@Oliver -- I must respectfully disagree with you that the "login ready" sound should be on by default for accessibility reasons. A visually impaired person would not be able to go through the Ubuntu installation process unassisted -- there are no sounds in Ubiquity. Whoever is setting up the system for a visually impaired person would easily be able to enable this sound (or the system manufacturer, in the case of a pre-loaded system). In any case, the sound could be much more subtle or inconspicuous and serve the same purpose. Instead it sounds tacky, and from an HCI perspective it makes the Ubuntu startup process abrupt in many contexts that others have described (library, meetings, late night), rather than one that is natural and user-centric. I have to challenge this as a design decision. -- No GUI to configure/disable login sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/437429 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I got the problem fixed. I removed the packages that were installed by the metapackage "ubuntu-restricted-extras". "sudo apt-get remove --purge ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10 -fluendo-mp3 gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly liba52-0.7.4 libavcodec52 libavformat52 libavutil49 libdvdnav4 libdvdread4 libgsm1 libid3tag0 libmad0 libmpeg2-4 libpostproc51 libschroedinger-1.0-0 libsidplay1 libswscale0 libtwolame0 ubuntu-restricted-extras libavcodec52 libavformat52 libswscale0 libvlc2 libvlccore2 vlc vlc-data vlc-nox vlc- plugin-pulse" Then I cleared the package cache : "sudo apt-get clean" I restarted my computer. Afterwards, I installed the ubuntu-restricted-extras package again: "sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras" And installed the other players that were removed. Then the problem was solved. In particular, I did NOT run the update manager prior to the upgrade to ensure that your 9.04 system was at the most recent level before doing the upgrade. [Bug 478746] [NEW] shift does not work after upgrade
You have been subscribed to a public bug: keybord layout (gconf global keymapping) When I upgraded to 9.10. Besides somewhat SLOWER BOOTUP I haven't noticed any problems. There is one more to mention. The shift key did not work, I could not use the upper register of my keyboard. It is rather a nuisance, since I could find some Ubuntu forum suggested to go to gconf-editor to turn off a dead key "F19". It was easy for me... What about a newbie? It could be very annoying for a new "convert" from the "Windy World" Can we take care fo this? I read the evolution faq for the question Why do I get an error "Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync"? also I recieved the message database disk image is malformed But I delete all .ibex.index files but it does not work, the problem stills until I also did what runout wrote. The work around for me was stop evolution evolution --force.shutdown and delete ibex.index files plus folders.db under directory ~/.evolution/mail/local/ restart evolution And now I am happily working again without problems.
