[Bug 478219] Re: libgtk1.2 missing on karmic

2009-11-08 Thread nodemaster
It seems that all games, that use the "loki" Installer (which are quite
a lot) rely on libgtk1.2. For the game "Uplink" from Introversion it
looks like this:

mkos...@newton:~/Desktop$ sh ./uplink-complete-1.54DOWNLOAD.sh
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing Uplink complete
1.54DOWNLOAD
/home/mkossin/.setup2428: error while loading shared libraries:
libgtk-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

This problem at least happens while trying to install:

- Darwinia from Introversion
- Ballistics from LGP

[Bug 429322] Re: seahorse-agent assert failure: ERROR:iop-profiles.c:606:IOP_generate_profiles: assertion failed: (obj && (obj->profile_list == NULL) && obj->orb)

2009-11-08 Thread Robert Ancell
Pushed a patch to lp:~robert-ancell/seahorse-plugins/bug-429322 with a
candidate patch as a SRU proposal.

However, I'm not sure if this patch is useful because:
- None of the bug reports seem to be indicating this crash is causing any
problems. The diagnosis and reproduction by Chris only shows it occurring at
shutdown (presumably after any useful shutdown actions have occurred).
- Users of Karmic final will not have apport enabled and therefore not see this
report

The biggest problem seems to be Launchpad and Apport spamming everyone
when a duplicate is detected.

Subscribed main sponsors to see what they think.

[Bug 478933] [NEW] totem hangs frequently and for a long time

2009-11-08 Thread qman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Totem hangs whenever I open it, whenever I open a new file, and whenever
I save preferences. It hangs for over a minute, with the interface
completely locking up. It only started doing this since I upgraded to
Karmic--totem worked fine in Jaunty. It does this with any or no files
open, and even if I disable all the plugins. Playback still works fine
while the interface is locked up, and embedded videos in Firefox that
use the totem plugin don't have this problem. I can't determine what
it's trying to do that causes the hang.

[Bug 478924] [NEW] Key-binding F9 (Show Sidepane) freezes gedit until i click on it

2009-11-08 Thread marcuskoze
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

If i press the F9 key to show/hide the sidepane, Gedit freezes (the
translucent gray layer) until i click somewhere. It works to select the
"View > Side Pane" menu item, but the F9 key is handier and my prefered
way to do it.

Guidelines, as directed below the information text area:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using
-- Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic (Gnome edition)

2) The version of the package you are using
-- Default Gedit package "gedit 2.28.0" (as reported by gedit's Help > About).
If it matters, I've tried to deactivate all the plugins and restarted gedit,
but the issue persists.

apt-cache policy gedit

  Version table:
 *** 2.28.0-0ubuntu2 0

3) What you expected to happen
-- Pressing F9 in focused Gedit shows or hides the Side Pane

4) What happened instead
-- Gedit freezes (the translucent gray layer) and recovers when i click on the
translucent area.

[Bug 298926] Re: rhythmbox has erased radio list

2009-11-08 Thread Jacob Anawalt
Ubuntu 9.10
rhythmbox 0.12.5-0ubuntu4

I was running rythmbox the first time on this install and had the normal
full list of default internet radio stations. I had played from a couple
of stations and it crashed when I was attempting to adjust the app's
volume via it's built-in control (bug 457539.)

I would also be glad to test this a bit more if I knew how to reload
quickly reload the Radio station default list (preferably without
loosing any other Rythmbox settings.)

[Bug 457539] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in g_object_set_valist()

2009-11-08 Thread Jacob Anawalt
I am able to get this by moving the Rhythmbox built-in volume slider up
and down while playing music. I've only been testing with "internet
radio" type sources. I ran apport to get the dump and was going to
report it against bug 333889 but got matched up with the g_object_*
crowd. The first time it crashed it wiped out my Radio list like bug
298926. The first two times it crashed it seems it was as I lifted the
volume up from zero like bug 475625. After enabling apport to get the
dump file it took a lot longer to get it to crash and this time it seems
it was about half way down while lowering the volume.

[Bug 466389] Re: totem hangs when try to play DVD

2009-11-08 Thread captnbli
OK, but that's a source code patch. Therefore I would have to compile
etc. I don't really want to get into that.

So, the real issue is in
http://packages.qa.debian.org/libd/libdvdnav.html? The only alternative
to building myself is to wait until a dev version with this fix goes in?

Same as bingel's case. The screensaver doesn't work and the power manager
settings are ignored.
Yet I'm not using Xubuntu but Ubuntu 9.10 desktop amd64. So I guess, this
problem occurs in Ubuntu Karmic Koala too.

[Bug 475985] Re: Rhythmbox unable to play mp3 files in the music library

2009-11-08 Thread Dovel
I found this bug appeared after an upgrade to Karmic from Jaunty. The
autoaudiosink plugin should be in gstreamer-plugins-good, which is
installed and I also tried re-installing it to no avail. None of the
other players work either and gnome-volume-control can't start up - says
it can't find the sound device. The card ( VIA ac97) shows when I use
lspci | grep sound and aplay -l shows the device as working.

Alsamixer would not load until I changed permissions of /dev/snd/* to
777.

All in all, it seems to be a more deepset issue than just rhythmbox.

[Bug 478832] [NEW] External hard-disk accessed even for local files

2009-11-08 Thread vhellmet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have a Seagate 500GB external HDD. Normal behavior is when this HDD is
accessed from a sleep state(spun-down) the window temporarily grays out
till data is retrieved from the HDD (spin up).

However, the bug is that this external HDD is accessed even when I try
to access folders on local partitions (not Ubuntu's partition). I have
two FAT partitions and a CDROM drive. Whenever I open these up, the
external HDD is accessed, causing the window to gray out. I do not think
this is normal behavior.

[Bug 437429] Re: No GUI to configure/disable login sound

2009-11-08 Thread David Ward
@Oliver -- I must respectfully disagree with you that the "login ready"
sound should be on by default for accessibility reasons.

A visually impaired person would not be able to go through the Ubuntu
installation process unassisted -- there are no sounds in Ubiquity.
Whoever is setting up the system for a visually impaired person would
easily be able to enable this sound (or the system manufacturer, in the
case of a pre-loaded system).

In any case, the sound could be much more subtle or inconspicuous and
serve the same purpose. Instead it sounds tacky, and from an HCI
perspective it makes the Ubuntu startup process abrupt in many contexts
that others have described (library, meetings, late night), rather than
one that is natural and user-centric.

I have to challenge this as a design decision.

Found this bug via Google. For those like myself who were not familiar
with "Totem" in Ar's workaround, click on Applications->Sound &
Video->Movie Player.

The the rest is like Ar described: Edit->Preferences->Display->Reset To
Defaults.

The fix worked well for me. (Ubuntu 9.10-64bit /w Nvidia graphics.)
Thanks, Ar.

[Bug 466389] Re: totem hangs when try to play DVD

2009-11-08 Thread prower2000
Preliminary results from my own machine seem to indicate that things are
working smoothly when the patch is applied (at least in the 32-bit
iteration of Karmic), excellent work Sergey, thank you very much. If we
can get this included as a patch to libdvdnav in the repositories that
would be great, although if the bug isn't known about upstream perhaps
someone could send the patch along to them as well? I'm sure they'd
appreciate it! :>

Hi all,

Apologies for the amount of email you may be getting if you reported a
bug about seahorse-agent crashing.

To unsubscribe please follow this link:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/seahorse-plugins/+bug/429322/+subscribe

Note you can always unsubscribe from a bug by going to the bug page on
Launchpad (the link is on the bottom of your bug email) and clicking
unsubscribe on the right hand side (you must be logged into launchpad).

Unfortunately there seems to be a problem with this particular bug that

[Bug 459747] Re: New gdm configuration brings accessibility applets to Gnome Panel's notification area.

2009-11-08 Thread vlad003
I can confirm this. Happened to me too. If I clicked the icon in the
Notification Area and checked any of the options, my overall GDM theme
would change to either Redmond or Raleigh. I forgot which one it is
exactly. It happened to me yesterday. I have 9.10 with all updates
installed. I had to logout and log back in to bring the theme back to
normal. The change that I made to the GDM Login Screen was the controls.

(What I mean by saying GDM is the "Controls" you change when customizing
a theme.)

[Bug 478781] [NEW] Poppler doesn't render correctly this pdf, though acroread 9 does.

2009-11-08 Thread Rob Frohne
Public bug reported:

This pdf doesn't render correctly on okular, evince, etc., but will
render correctly using acroread 9. This bug may be a combination of
two, one in the ezpdf php generator that built it, and one in the reader
that is trying to read it. The problem is that the first page should
say Class Notes, and there should be some dates and page numbers below
the photos. They show up in acroread, but not in anything rendered with
poppler.

[Bug 478773] [NEW] The login screen shows an useless dialog when showing the user list has been disabled

2009-11-08 Thread Christoph Korn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

When the user list is disabled (which can only be done using gconf but
this is another bug [1]) there is a useless dialog shown where you just
have to click on log in before you are asked for your username.

I'm worried about disturbing other people with sending automatically these

Could you please correct the bug in your system asap or remove my from this

Forgot to mention, that due to testing a patch for the radeon driver I
had to build a patched kernel, so I am on a custom 2.6.32-rc5 instead of
the 2.6.31. So the slowed down boot time might be explained by that fact

[Bug 471047] Re: videos don't play beacause there is no longer the correct codec

2009-11-08 Thread Pépou
I got the problem fixed.
I removed the packages that were installed by the metapackage
"ubuntu-restricted-extras".

"sudo apt-get remove --purge ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10
-fluendo-mp3 gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly liba52-0.7.4 libavcodec52
libavformat52 libavutil49 libdvdnav4 libdvdread4 libgsm1 libid3tag0
libmad0 libmpeg2-4 libpostproc51 libschroedinger-1.0-0 libsidplay1
libswscale0 libtwolame0 ubuntu-restricted-extras libavcodec52
libavformat52 libswscale0 libvlc2 libvlccore2 vlc vlc-data vlc-nox vlc-
plugin-pulse"

Then I cleared the package cache :

"sudo apt-get clean"

I restarted my computer.

Afterwards, I installed the ubuntu-restricted-extras package again:

"sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras"

And installed the other players that were removed.
Then the problem was solved.

In particular, I did NOT run the update manager prior to the upgrade to

[Bug 478746] [NEW] shift does not work after upgrade

2009-11-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

keybord layout (gconf global keymapping)
When I upgraded to 9.10. Besides somewhat SLOWER BOOTUP I haven't noticed any
problems. There is one more to mention.
The shift key did not work, I could not use the upper register of my keyboard.
It is rather a nuisance, since I could find some Ubuntu forum suggested to go
to gconf-editor to turn off a dead key "F19". It was easy for me... What about
a newbie? It could be very annoying for a new "convert" from the "Windy World"
Can we take care fo this?
Thanks in advance

[Bug 381164] Re: database disk image is malformed

2009-11-08 Thread sbasurto
I read the evolution faq for the question
Why do I get an error "Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync"?
also I recieved the message
database disk image is malformed

But I delete all .ibex.index files but it does not work, the problem
stills until I also did what runout wrote.

The work around for me was
stop evolution
evolution --force.shutdown
and
delete ibex.index files plus folders.db under directory ~/.evolution/mail/local/
restart evolution

And now I am happily working again without problems.

I hope this helps.

I can't even un-subscribe.  If I don't get server errors on the front
page it times out while process my request.  My guess is they're at
98% CPU capacity having to send all these emails... This is almost
funny.  Sometime you just have to bow to the absurd.  It will
eventually go away.
