[Bug 458334] Re: Fails repeatably with DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.NotFound: The given volume was not found

2010-02-02 Thread Glenn
Another tip, if you have a CD-ROM in the drive, it shows up in the list
and there is a bug calculating the usb drive size needed. I had a DVD
that was bigger than the size of my USB stick, and even though I
selected a small ISO image to put on the thumb drive, it was using the
DVD's size to do the calculation. I removed the DVD, and then restarted
the program and selected the ISO again, and it worked.

[Bug 487802] Re: new gdm breaks my Xorg xkb settings :( I can switch US to RU. And after login i can't switch to Russian layout

2010-02-02 Thread om26er
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue , in the default Ubuntu 9.10 install ,
that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't
be addressed as part of the project.

papercuts are for ubuntu desktop not server/lxde and also you are using
only one component of gnome and reporting it as papercut.

For further info about papercuts criteria , pls read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as invalid ONLY in the
papercuts project.

Evince is hanging when trying to open a pdf. After a delay of at least

about 12 hours and I got 8 of this errors.

I don't know if this is related, but one day ago rhythmbox locked my

[Bug 515935] [NEW] causes Xorg to consume CPU unless Gnome is running

2010-02-02 Thread Ian! D. Allen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

If I run gnome-system-monitor under Gnome, my Xorg process uses one or
two percent of one CPU core and this seems normal.

If I shut down Gnome and run gnome-system-monitor with *no* window
manager (only Xorg), or with vtwm as my window manager, the Xorg
process use goes over 15% on one of the four cores. Killing gnome-
system-monitor causes the Xorg CPU use to drop back to near zero.

This makes gnome-system-monitor somewhat unusable except when Gnome is
running. I did not expect Xorg CPU use to become unreasonable when
gnome-system-monitor is run under a non-Gnome environment.

[Bug 470604] Re: Window List buttons do not always respond to mouse clicks

2010-02-02 Thread Valentijn Sessink
Adding a new user (adduser test and configuring it roughly like my own
account (no visual effects, focus follows mouse but windows don't
raise), I could not reproduce the problem. So while my test was not
exhaustive, I suspect a configuration issue. I will try to compare the
gconf-settings from the test account with my own and report; but others
may try to test a clean user as well.

Also, I tried to remove and add the windowlist applet to my own task
bar; tried a click to focus setting; but that did not help.

[Bug 486747] Re: [Usability] Ubuntu MenuBar applet to have an option to show icons instead of text

2010-02-02 Thread RomanIvanov
Thanks, for answer. Here is explanations:

Screenshot-2.png - is how it looks like by default. Very convenient for
user that accustom to horizontal panels.

Screenshot-3.png - is how it looks like then panel is Right/Left
oriented. It takes to much space, and not very convenient to look at it.

What is an option to improve the situation: is to have an option to show
Images instead of the text Application Places System. To show
three images instead with corresponding tooltips. It would be beneficial
for any layout and for any user.

There many users use vertical menu to economize Horizontal height, as majority
of displays are Wide, and as result have plenty of horizontal space that is not
used properly. We do not want to instill our habits to others, and just need
option to satisfy our preferences.
Experienced users is familiar with these three menu items(Application
Places System) an no need to them to have them in Text format, images will
suffice.

[Bug 469179] Re: can't play audio cd's

2010-02-02 Thread TonyR
In Ubuntu 9.10 in file explorer I can see my CD Rom drive and open and
read data disks however if I put in an Audio Disk it is like the actual
drive is unmounted. The Device manager continures to see the drive and
see it has a disk loaded however file explorer cannt see the drive until
you unload the audio disk. No audio application recognised an audio disk
loaded in the drive so you cannot rip or play audio disks. The same
machine worked OK in Ubuntu 8.10 and a previously installation of 9.10

[Bug 309366] Re: clock does not update

2010-02-02 Thread Michael Wiehl
It affects me as well. I use the gnome-panel with two application
starters, the applet 'Platten einbinden' (mount devices), Ubuntu One,
the weather applet and the time applet. After login, the panel gets
loaded an in some cases the clock in the panel stops immediately.
Meanwhile the clock under the world map (when clicking on the clock
applet) continues running.

It seems, the the panel itself crashed because the highlighting of the
Apps/Places/System-menus does not work any more. The click just opens
the menu, but does not highlight the word itself.

[Bug 239952] Re: firefox - the associated helper application does not exist

2010-02-02 Thread .cobnet
This bug also affects me as long as I can remember. It doesn't happen
with all files and not with all websites. Unfortunately it affects me in
Smartschool, a popular electronic learning environment in Belgium that
I use on a daily basis. Almost all the files that suffer from this bug
have application/force-download as file-type.

The workaround is indeed to first save it and then open it. Of course
this isn't very user friendly and it costs some time. If you need to do
it a lot, it becomes frustrating. So, I would be V-E-R-Y happy if this
bug could be solved.

System: Ubuntu 9.10 (but this bug was also present in former versions of
Ubuntu).

[Bug 477034] Re: After a few tracks, Rythmbox fast-forwards through tracks but produces no audio

2010-02-02 Thread Dave
Sorry!

After a while rhythmbox fast forwards through the tracks and stops
playing audio. It works for longer when it is the only application
running. I find the best result is when run from the terminal but the
following is printed there:

d...@dave-desktop:~$ rhythmbox

** (rhythmbox:2434): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name
!= NULL' failed

** (rhythmbox:2434): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name
!= NULL' failed

When running with system monitor (this doesn't seem to affect it too much) when
the crash happens CPU usage for rythmbox rockets from around 7% to 100%.

I am still a bit of a newbie to Ubuntu so I am not sure what the error messages
mean if anything. I hope this helps if there is any more info from my system
that could help then just ask!
I am going to try and obtain a backtrace now and will post it here once I have.

Thanks, Dave

[Bug 515943] Re: Nautilus does not show the Ubuntu icon theme

2010-02-02 Thread Sense Hofstede
Thank you for helping with making Ubuntu and its file manager Nautilus
better by reporting this bug. The desktop is drawn by Nautilus as well,
so you filed the bug against the correct package.

The fact that the default iconset isn't used after a fresh installation
is strange and something that shouldn't happen. Are you sure your CD has
no defects? You could check it with the option in the CD boot menu or
with the use of MD5 checksums.

Other possibilites are that the iconset wasn't properly installed or that your
settings are malformed. You could try to remove the hidden directories
'.icons', '.gconf2' (or '.gconf') from your home directory and see what happens
then, but keep in mind that this would remove most of your settings.
In order to check whether everything was installed correctly you could open the
application 'Synaptic package manager' from the menu at the top left corner of
your screen: System-Manage-Synaptic package manager. The package that should
be installed is the package 'humanity-icon-theme'.
In order to make sure the 'Humanity' icon theme is selected you can press the
'Customise' button in the GNOME Appearance Properties window and check the
selected icon theme at the Icons tab.

2010-02-02 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thanks for the explanation and images. I now understand what is desired
and will confirm this bug. Since this bug has enough information
provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as
confirmed and let them handle it from here. Thanks for taking the time
to make Ubuntu better!

Also I have been running rhythmbox without using any plug-ins as I suspected
that they may have been causing the problem, which they weren't of course. It
is only with the latest version of Ubuntu that I have been having this problem
with the earlier version of Ubuntu 9 rhythmbox worked perfectly. As an
additional note the same problem occurs when I try to play mp3's through the
Movie Player. I hope this helps clear this up as I really like the look and
feel of rhythmbox. As stated above if there is any more information I can give
which may help just ask!

Thanks, Dave

[Bug 516041] [NEW] Gnome Power Manager doen't recognize On battery mode in Karmic with 2.6.32-11-generic

2010-02-02 Thread Leo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 32bit on an Acer Aspire One D150 netbook.

I intalled the kernel 2.6.32-11-generic and when I boot from this kernel
I have the following unexpected behavior:

- Power management preferences only show two tabs: On AC Power and General,
and no On battery
- acpi -a works fine, that is, acpi -a tells me whether I am running on
battery or on AC

And sometimes when I boot I get the following behavior, but sometimes not.
- Power history does not show the Laptop battery tab.
- The Power Manager icon in the panel tells me I am running on AC power when I
am actually running on battery.

[Bug 397192] Re: nautilus becomes non-responsive during video-playback

2010-02-02 Thread donal
After being fine since the fix was released I've got this problem back, but
intermittently. I'm back to switching on and off Preview. It manifests slightly
differently. With Preview switched on, in a older into which large files have
been copied, the folder contents may not be visible until Preview is switched
off.
However as I said it's intermittant, and I can't nail it down exactly. I'll
update here when I can.

2010-02-02 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a

I have just rebooted without the AC source, and now Gnome Power Manager
icon is the same as that of AC source, Preferences still does not show

In Gnome Power Statistics I also see AC adpter / Online: No

[Bug 516049] [NEW] After maximizing window, dragging title bar of different window moves maximized window instead

2010-02-02 Thread Captain Chaos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

Whenever I maximize a window by double clicking on the title bar, if I
then try to move a different window by dragging the title bar, the
maximized window is moved instead.

It doesn't happen if I maximize the window by clicking on the maximize
button in the title bar, only when I double click the title bar.

I can prevent it from happening by clicking on another window after
having maximized the first window, but this triggers another, presumably
related bug (possibly even the underlying cause of this bug):

When I maximize a window by double clicking on the title bar, and then
click on the title bar of another window, the focus is transfered back
to the maximized window! I have to click on the other window *again* to
give it focus. This only happens when I click on the title bar of the
other window, not when I click on the client area of the window.

[Bug 516041] Re: Gnome Power Manager doen't recognize On battery mode in Karmic with 2.6.32-11-generic

2010-02-02 Thread Leo
I have just plugged the AC source without rebooting.

Now Gnome Power Manager icon correctly tells me that I am charging the battery
and that it is at 96%.
Preferences still does not show the on-battery tab
Power History now shows the battery tab.

Kernel seems to be detecting the presence of AC Power:

~$ acpi -a
Adapter 0: on-line

In Gnome Power Statistics I also see AC adpter / Online: Yes

Is there a way to automatically generate
# Dependencies.txt
# DevkitPower.txt
# GConfNonDefault.txt
# XsessionErrors.txt
# gnome-power-bugreport.txt

To report different behaviors after rebooting?

[Bug 430704] Re: user not available ekiga

2010-02-02 Thread kapetr
Hello, Yannick

I had same problems (Ubuntu 9.10, Ekiga 3.2.5 and 3.2.6):

- user not available and
- echo sound not playing

I have test different codecs enable and I found out, that:

If PCMU is enabled, then user not available occur (and if I disable it) then
if PCMA is NOT enabled, then sip:5...@ekiga.net echo test is playing, but
nothing to hear.

[Bug 516053] Re: Should use system libslab instead of its own copy

2010-02-02 Thread Chris Coulson
Thanks, but I don't think we don't want to waste efforts on getting
libslab in to main. libslab isn't particularly well maintained upstream
(it doesn't have regular tarballs, doesn't follow GNOME release schedule
etc). The g-c-c shell is currently being re-written upstream, and the
re-write is not based on libslab anyway. Having it in main is no win
really when g-c-c is the only thing on the CD using it. I'm not sure
it's worth officially supporting a library that isn't going to be
required in a couple of months.

[Bug 367478] Re: Ekiga sound from echo test missing: inbound RTP packets cannot get in.

2010-02-02 Thread kapetr
Hello,

I had also problems with Ekiga behind NAT and FWs.

I'm connected to Internet via ADSL router (with NAT and SPI firewall):

To get echo working, I had on my Ubuntu 9.10 - Ekiga 3.2.5/6 to do:

1. on my ADSL router (ZyXEL 660HW)
- enable in NAT port forwarding (ports 5000-5100)
- in firewall add rule WAN2LAN to allow these ports

2. running Ubuntu FW ufw don't make problems ( I have to see why !!!)

3. In Ekiga Preferences
- must be enabled network detection (also not checked)
- in audio codec disabled PCMU and enabled PCMA (don't ask me why)

I hope it will help someone :-)

[Bug 516085] [NEW] Always perform this action doesn't work in Camera Import dialog

2010-02-02 Thread Kyle Guilbert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

Steps to reproduce:

1. Connect a camera to an Ubuntu Karmic machine via USB (in this case, an
iPhone)
2. Observe the Camera Import dialog
3. Check the Always perform this action check box
4. Click the Ignore button
5. Un-plug the camera and re-connect it. (whether you un-mount it first has no
effect on the outcome)
6. Observe the Camera Import dialog

Expected results:
Step 6 above should not appear; since the checkbox was checked in step 3,
Ignore should be the assumed action.

I don't see how moving a poorly maintained system library to main where
nobody is interested in supporting it, and then building g-c-c to use
the system library is better from a security point-of-view. Surely, it
is better from a security point-of-view to keep the library in universe,
where it can be maintained by a greater number of contributors.

[Bug 515555] Re: empathy doesn't let me see or get to contact details during subscription request

2010-02-02 Thread om26er
I have commented this upstream:
the reporter actually want a feature that he say exists in pidgin and windoze
clients. its that when someone sends a subscription request we should be able
to some information about the user who want to add us as their contact.

is this what you wanted to say?
