[Bug 517952] Re: MP3 player no longer visible after update
After running Terminal with the instructions you gave, I ran Rhythmbox with the Creative Zen MP3 player attached. It was not found by Rhythmbox. Prior to updating Rhythmbox, I was able to see the player listed on the left hand side and its contents, although i wasn't able to play any of the items listed. Now the player doesn't even show up in the list. Regarding the "rhythmbox-debug" instruction, it was running for about 45 mins before I decided enough log had been created. It didn't look like it was ever going to finish so I closed it down. If you want me to run it again and just leave it running I will but perhaps you could tell me how long it is likely to run. The 2 log files are attached. Thanks, Alan P.S It appears only one attachment can be made at a time so I'll resedn the report with the other log file in a moment. ** Attachment added: "devkit.txt" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/38994352/devkit.txt -- MP3 player no longer visible after update https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/517952 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 519651] Re: The keys controling the volume, eco-mode ... freez ubuntu 9.10 64bit
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug had the incorrect package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have re-classified this bug as a bug in gnome-settings-daemon. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. [Bug 517310] Re: rhythmbox crashes when changing volume level
Additional information on rhythmbox startup problem, and volume crash results. After system reset, first attempt to startup rhythmbox from gnome applications menu (or desktop launcher) blinks program box in bottom status line, then installs icon in gnome's upper right action bar. Actual program window does not appear. The second attempt to startup rhythmbox does open program window, and program works normally. "When changing volume and the crash/exit occurs, the icon in the action bar is removed." Volume change crash occurs even when using just the mouse wheel, and not the volume slider. When trying to launch rhythmbox from command line after a system reset, the assert errors occur, and the icon is installed in the gnome action bar. Actual program window does not appear. Using ctrl-c removes icon from action bar. If rhythmbox is launched as a background task, assert errors occur, icon is installed in action bar, and ctrl-c does not remove icon. Additional attempts to start rhythmbox from command line will work correctly, as long a icon is in action bar. Closing rhythmbox program window does not remove icon from action bar, even if no songs are being played. -- rhythmbox crashes when changing volume level https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/517310 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 517310] Re: rhythmbox crashes when changing volume level
Problem with startup of rhythmbox appears to occur only immediately after a system reset, or volume crash condition. Once rhythmbox has been started up in gnome (on second attempt), then closed normally, assert error does not occur when starting from command line, and program can be started and exited multiple times without problems. Attached is the backtrace to document the volume crash condition. In this, gdb indicates that the program exited normally. Reproduced this several times. May not be an actual crash, but a mistaken interpretation that the exit box had been clicked, since the volume slider overlays the exit box. In additional tests, was careful to limit volume slider motions to area below exit box, and was still able to cause crash/exit. Is there any more investigations that you would like me to perform? ** Attachment added: "volume crash backtrace" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/38952262/gdb-rhythmbox2.txt -- rhythmbox crashes when changing volume level https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/517310 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 517310] Re: rhythmbox crashes when changing volume level
I agree that it may be the same as Bug #455421. Here is some additional information. In trying to generate the manual backtrace, I get assert errors whenever launching rhythmbox from the command line. The program then hangs, and I must use ctrl-c to recover. The backtrace showing this result is attached. With this behavior from the command line, cannot generate backtrace of original bug. I am running a clean install of 9.10 x64 on ext4, and can still generate the crash when starting rhythmbox from the gnome applications menu. However, I now have to start the program twice to get it to run. The first time, a program box briefly appears in the bottom status line, and then disappears. The second time, it starts up and runs fine, until the volume crash associated with this bug. To get the crash to occur, sometimes I must continuously change the volume rapidly for several seconds, using the slider, before the crash occurs. Other times, I just have to barely touch the volume control. ** Attachment added: "backtrace showing assert errors" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/38950586/gdb-rhythmbox.txt -- rhythmbox crashes when changing volume level https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/517310 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 160862] Re: users-admin (System->Administration->Users and Groups) overwrites group file
Thanks for that very valuable information. It may still worth give a deeper look at this, since it seems to hurt people at random, and can still raise issues in Lucid (even if that doesn't destroy your system as now). So what happens is that the backends have a problem creating group structures that should be sent over D-Bus, which explains the warning "number of values does not match type at /usr/lib/perl5/Net/DBus/Binding/Iterator.pm line 606". Unfortunately, this line is not where the problem happens, but where the D-Bus perl binding detects it, and it must come from the function GroupsConfig.pm::get(). The liboobs warnings are simply the consequence: empty groups are sent, which explains why we remove all of them (or almost) when committing changes. I don't know if you know a little about perl, but you can try to get more informations by editing your /usr/share/system-tools-backends-2.0/scripts/GroupsConfig.pm. There's a function called get() there, in which it would be interesting to print to debug output all the informations that were retrieved from /etc/group. For example, you can add to the start of the while loop something like: &Utils::File::run ("echo Group:"); and at the end of the loop: &Utils::File::run ("echo " . join(" ", @line)); &Utils::File::run ("echo $copy"); Then, reproducing the debugging steps, you'll be able to see what's going on in the log. -- users-admin (System->Administration->Users and Groups) overwrites group file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160862 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 519529] [NEW] gnome-display-properties can't change resolution after full-screen app crash
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon This is a problem that goes back to 8.04 (Hardy Heron) and probably earlier. If a full-screen application changes resolution and later crashes (or hangs and is killed by the user), the screen is not restored and g-d-p can't seem to change it. For example, I just had a DarkPlaces (enhanced Quake engine) game hang on exit on Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala). The game was set to 1024x768 while the normal desktop resolution is 1280x1024. When I killed it from a VT, the screen was left at 1024x768. When I attempted to change it back to 1280x1024 using g-d-p, it accepted the change but nothing happened. The solution (as always) is to use a terminal window and issue the command: xrandr -s 1280x1024 I'm don't know if the problem is with g-d-p not making the change request or the daemon not applying it. The logs don't show anything.
