[Bug 381066] Re: Add option to display HTML mail in evolution
If I understand the last alternative part of this request, it is the same as the Prefer PLAIN option under the HTML Messages tab in Mail Preferences (I'm on Evolution version 2.28.1, Ubuntu 9.10). I currently use that option and am happy with it, but I still find myself wishing frequently to view the HTML version of certain messages. It would be very nice to have the option to switch display formats on the fly, as in the KMail button. The current flow looks like: 1. Click View menu 2. Click Preferences 3. Click Mail Preferences 4. Click HTML Messages 5. Change from Prefer PLAIN to Show HTML if present 6. Close preferences window 7. Switch to a different message and back again, to update message display format 8. Repeat 1-5 to turn options back to Prefer PLAIN Which is a rather long way around. -- Add option to display HTML mail in evolution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/381066 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 533758] Re: Button order/position should be part of Theme
Looking at the metacity source I don't think it currently has the ability to pull this from theme rather than gconf, but it doesn't look that hard. meta_frames_paint_to_drawable calls meta_prefs_get_button_layout but it doesn't look that hard to add another string to the theme definition and I guess you would then substitute that call in meta_frames_paint_to_drawable The problem is all the ancillary work in the changing the theme chooser/overrides. [Bug 497430] [NEW] Does not let me log in after running Updates
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Ubuntu 9.10 - the Karmic Koala - released in October 2009 20091215: I recently installed 9.1 (desktop) and today ran the updates. It installed fine ... I got prompted for a restart. System restarted but did not auto-login (thats how I had it setup). It appears to attempt the auto login but fails and prompts me to login. (which also fails). My login credentials are correct because if I enter a invalid password it states authentication failed but not so with the correct password. It simply returns to the login after a couple of screen flashes now I'm locked out without a way in!!! 20091216 Update: I did finally reinstall and ran updates again. There is definitely a bug with the updates which causes the login to fail for the primary user. Again as before I set myself up to login automatically. Login to this account fails consistently (as before) What I did do this time was before I ran UPDATES I created 2 other logins. #1 Admin (ROOT Group) and #2 another user with the same privileges as my initial login. Here's what I found 1. When the login fails on the default account (created on installation) I can login as root (my Admin ac) then switch user and login with the account that is failing, successfully! 2. In the same situation I am able to login with the 2nd user account but when I switch user and attempt to login to the default account, login fails and this time prompts me to enter the 2nd users password as if I attempted to switch to this user. No member of the teams responsible for this change have commented on the bug report. This is really disappointing. This behavior looks like Canonical does not care about the community, they do not even want to explain the changes they did. It's taken two years and 116 comments here (https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/metacity/+bug/160311) to make absolutely no progress whatsoever. I doubt we'll be seeing this LTS with buttons on the right. Maybe the next LTS. General usability in Ubuntu is pretty low and I think it's down to a complete lack of usability studies. If they /are/ performed, they're being done so privately and the results are remaining private. Until we can see the results of such a study, all we have is one person's opinions against another. And it sounds a lot like Mark's made up his mind on this one - given his comments and participation in this thread and the suspicious timing of this change (on the day of the UI freeze). -- [light-theme] please revert the order of the window controls back to menu:minimize, maximize, close https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 538761] [NEW] please play volume change sound effect (audio-volume-change) when volume is changed, like upstream
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon First of all, a quick introduction to the (unfortunately not very well- known) component we have had for a few releases now, called libCanberra, which is used for sound events in the same style as icons. In upstream's gnome-settings-daemon, the system tries to play the audio- volume-change sound effect when the user adjusts the volume with media control keys. Granted, the sound is unimplemented in Ubuntu's default sound theme, but it absolutely exists in others. With the Freedesktop theme, the sound effect is an extremely helpful pop noise that indicates what the new volume is. Although it only affects users with different sound themes, losing this feature is a regression. It also limits what can be done with Ubuntu's own sound theme, if that gets updated at some point. Here is how the sound is played in gnome-settings-daemon ./plugins/media-keys/gsd-media-keys-manager.c in the update_dialog function: ca_gtk_play_for_widget (manager-priv-dialog, 0, CA_PROP_EVENT_ID, audio-volume-change, CA_PROP_EVENT_DESCRIPTION, volume changed through key press, CA_PROP_APPLICATION_ID, org.gnome.VolumeControl, NULL); With our patch to gnome-settings-daemon to use libnotify for this event, update_dialog is never called. This is what causes our rather unfortunate regression. Please implement this feature for when a volume change is triggered in the libnotify-using version of gnome-settings-daemon. ** Affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- please play volume change sound effect (audio-volume-change) when volume is changed, like upstream https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/538761 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 538783] [NEW] Ubuntu's change to g_format_size_for_display() causes inconsistency
Public bug reported: This is in reference to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=554172#c32 Since this violates the recently instated units policy in Ubuntu (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UnitsPolicy) we applied this patch in Ubuntu to make g_format_size_for_display() standards conformant (original patch by Benjamin Drung, I adapted the test cases accordingly). The obvious other alternative would be to keep the 1024 multiplicator, and fix the units to be KiB, MiB, etc., but I'm strongly convinced that this would just lead to more confusion (everything except RAM size is commonly written in standard base-10 prefixes these days, after all). The problem occurs when applications using g_format_size_for_display() also allow user input of file sizes. For example, let's say an application allows users to set the size of a disk cache. What units should the GUI use when accepting user input? Transmission's preferences dialog lets users specify speed limits in KiB/s. If Transmission were to display speeds with g_format_size_for_display() + /s as recommended by Benjamin Drung (the author of the g_format_size_for_display() patch), Transmission will appear to end users to be exceeding the limit. Conversely, if Transmission fully adopts Ubuntu's Unit Policy, its speeds will be off in the other direction (never reaching the speed limit) on distros using the upstream implementation of g_format_size_for_display(). In *both* cases, Transmission's input and display units will be inconsistent with one another on at least one platform. Every application in this situation would need to pass test input to g_format_size_for_display() in order to see if it's the base 2 or base 10 version, and then tailor its input dialogs accordingly, as well as massaging sizes and speeds entered by the user. In short, this change was introduced to make things more consistent and intuitive, but has unintended side-effects that do the exact opposite. It's likely that g_format_size_for_display() *should* be base 10, but doing it downlstream as Ubuntu has done puts application developers in a tough situation. ** Affects: glib2.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Ubuntu's change to g_format_size_for_display() causes inconsistency https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/538783 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 538783] Re: Ubuntu's change to g_format_size_for_display() causes inconsistency
According to the units policy, user inputs of file sizes should be in base-10, too (or give the user an option for the preferred prefix). I already addressed this in paragraph three. If Transmission fully adopts Ubuntu's Unit Policy, its speeds will be off in the other direction (never reaching the speed limit) on distros using the upstream implementation of g_format_size_for_display(). In short, this change forces Transmission to decide whether it wants to be consistent with upstream or with Ubuntu. My preference would be for Transmission to integrate on all platforms, so this is a suboptimal choice caused by Ubuntu's fork of g_format_size_for_display(). -- Ubuntu's change to g_format_size_for_display() causes inconsistency https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/538783 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
