[Bug 558872] Re: empathy accounts fail to connect after manually unlocking keyring

2010-04-17 Thread Omer Akram
I added empathy to startup applications and when the system starts I am
asked for the keyring password, I provide it and I am online but If my
wireless connection takes a few seconds to connect I get an empty
empathy window but as soon as wireless connects empathy automatically
connects.

Can you please open gconf-editor go to /apps/empathy and untick the
option use_conn and then try to reproduce the problem. Thanks

[Bug 565735] [NEW] support opening compressed files

2010-04-17 Thread Paul Kishimoto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Some applications can open files that have been gzipped or bzipped. For example:
1. Print a page to file (example.pdf, example.ps) from Firefox in Ubuntu 10.04
2. Gzip & Bzip both files (example.pdf.gz, example.pdf.bz2, example.ps.gz,
example.ps.bz2) using the Nautilus context-menu "Compress..." item.
3. Observe that all six resulting files are associated with Evince, and can be
opened without trouble.

Inkscape, GIMP and some other applications also support this on writing.

Similar functionality is desirable for gedit.

[Bug 555465] Re: sound preferences for Movie browser plugin not remembered

2010-04-17 Thread Flávio Martins
"movie browser plugin" has volume at 0% by default. (checked with the sound
preferences applet)
There is no way to set the volume to e.g: 100% and have it saved for the next
time a video is played in the browser.
Tested with Chromium and Firefox, both with the same behavior.
This is probably attributable to totem and/or pulseaudio. Setting totem for now.

[Bug 543597] Re: gvfs-afc-volume-monitor crashed with SIGSEGV in idevice_get_uuid()

2010-04-17 Thread Andrew Low
Experienced a similar crash when plugging in my iPod Touch. I was
concurrently running a VMWare Player session that hosted a WindowsXP
image. This VMWare image is configured to 'grab' the USB connection for
the iPod and do the iTunes dance. While this was happening (and
succeeding) - I got a crash box up in Linux with the suggestion to file
a bug.

I'm affected by this, but not seriously as my VMWare session was just
fine. Hopefully my input helps narrow down the problem a little.

[Bug 565476] Re: akonaditray don't uninstalled entry in menu

2010-04-17 Thread Jonathan Thomas
The file is removed when the package is removed. (It's a standard file and is
removed like all other files when a package is uninstalled, no postrm needed)
It's not a packaging bug. Probably a problem with the gnome applications menu.

[Bug 565476] [NEW] akonaditray don't uninstalled entry in menu

2010-04-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: kdepim-runtime

I upgraded from Karmic to Lucid today and for some reason that I don't
remember in this moment I had installed some kde packages (included
Akonaditray) so when I saw him I went to software-center and search for
akonaditray and then push clic on uninstall this package, few minutes
ago check my menu (Applications->Accesories->) and Akonaditray still has
an entry to Open this application, maybe his postrm script is missing
something that is not able to removed completely (at least under Lucid).

Steps to reproduce:

1) Had akonaditray installed
2) Go to software-center and removed package
3) Check under Applications->Accesorios->Akonaditray if this entry is still
appear.

[Bug 565648] Re: Rhythmbox fails to start, cites music store errors

2010-04-17 Thread Benjamin Humphrey
It might be worth mentioning that I have Ubuntu One unchecked in Startup
Applications as I don't use the file sharing, but still want to use
Rhythmbox. This is probably the cause for the problem.

I think the real bug here is that Rhythmbox should still start even if
it can't start the Ubuntu One music store due to an error.

[Bug 565630] [NEW] empathy accounts right-hand information box has a light background but white text when using a dark theme

2010-04-17 Thread Eemil Lagerspetz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

In empathy in the accounts dialog, the area that shows the status of an
account, such as "connecting", "available", "disconnected" etc. has a
changing background colour. This is red when disconnected, light yellow
when available, etc. However, the foreground colour has not been
specified. This means that with dark themes that have a light foreground
colour, text in this area is unreadable.

To reproduce:
1. Start Empathy and go to Accounts
2. In the Ubuntu Preferences menu, go to Appearance and switch to a dark theme,
for example DarkRoom or Darklooks.
3. Notice the unreadable text in empathy on the top right of the Accounts
window.

[Bug 40872] Re: Desktop icons are allowed to overlap

2010-04-17 Thread Ruben Menke
hi

my 2 cents:

how about the following: text is limited as outlined by Miles Lane and
Sandehera earlier (in 2008)
however for icons regardless of size or shape two rules apply. Stuff created
new on the desktop ie automatically created icons for removabe hardware,
downloaded files etc donot overlap initially but are place well clear of other
icons in a grid type allignment.

for icons moved my nouse the are droped exactly there where the mouse is
when the icon is released.Or alternativly icons that are made to overlap
form a stack that is displayed similar to a drawer applet in the panels
or stacks in OS X

[Bug 565620] [NEW] Empathy shows "Error sending message 'message_text': too long message" warning reguallary when sending message in some jabber conference

2010-04-17 Thread Ivan Zorin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

How to reproduce this bug:
1. Open Empathy;
2. Join in some jabber conference via your jabber account;
3. Compose not very long message with some special characters (like /\;:., etc);
4. Send it;

What you expected to happen:
Message should be correctly has been sent.

What happened instead:
Sometimes, reguallary or occasionally, right in jabber conference window I get
error:
Error sending message 'message text': too long message

Workaround:
Press "Ctrl+Up arrow" and press "Enter" then - if you'll see error again,
repeat.

Workaround works, but first, it's very annoying, when you had to try
resend message, and second, it's very annoying, when you get error
message, although message aren't too long and it has been composed
correctly.

[Bug 561734] Re: quadrapassel doesn't start: Failed to initialise clutter: Unable to select the newly created GLX context

2010-04-17 Thread papukaija
Jason wrote on the upstream report:

"Clutter should never fail in the way in which you are seeing it fail. Something
is terribly, horribly wrong with your installation and it's not something that
I or anyone else can program a nice error message for. OpenGL should *always*
fall back to the software renderer. If it doesn't, something about the
installation is broken and there's nothing deterministic that I could plan for.

Please fix whatever is wrong with your Linux installation or file a bug with
the distributor if they are not providing the software GL implementation
appropriately."

In the debug log there was no sign of any message written in that time
interval, thus it was about 10 lines.

[Bug 565570] [NEW] Extra pane in Nautilus 2.30.0

2010-04-17 Thread Chris
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have been eagerly awaiting the extra pane option in Nautilus, now that it is
available I would like a few additional features to make it more usable.
1) There should be an Option in prefs to set this as my default view, i.e two
panes. At the moment I have to press F3 to each time I open nautilus.
2) Not easy to select which pane is the focus, need some where I can click in
each pane to make it the focus.
3) would like a standard set of buttons along the top of each pane, such as up,
back, forwards, copy, move
4) Would be useful if the second pane cold be set as a preview pane as well, to
be able to view files you selects such as pictures, text files and documents.

Must admit I have been spoiled over the years having been a great fan of
Directory Opus both on the Old Amiga and now my work PC. Would love
similar functionality in Ubuntu

to update gnome-power-manager on my 9.10 system :

I downloaded gnome-power-manager 2.30 from here
http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-Environment/Tools/GNOME-Power-Manager-3684.shtml

unpacked the tar- sudo tar xvf gnome...tar.gz

after installing dependencies one at a time (ouch)

sudo ./configure
sudo make
sudo make install

on restart, there is no more flickering :)

I don't know if this is the best way to solve this, but it seems to be
good for me

Same problem under Lucid :(

Was able to manually mount it:
sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sdg1 /mnt

The ubuntu disk utility identifies it as as USB storage device formatted as a
FAT16 partition with 48MB capacity

Maybe that is why it has trouble automounting - this is a very old file
system.

[Bug 529233] Re: editing locations to the clock applet, keyboard navigation closes the dialog unexpectedly

2010-04-17 Thread Oren Barnea
First I have to say that I get the impression that the program doesn't
really crash, but simply closes due to some error in the default action
linked to pressing the Enter key.

I tried to follow the instructions and didn't really succeed. I'm not sure I
was doing it correctly. Here's what I did, maybe you can find what I did wrong:
Installed the gnome-panel-dbgsym package, navigated to
/usr/lib/gnome-panel/
and from that location I ran gdb. Here's the outpou of the first try:

o...@lucky:/usr/lib/gnome-panel$ gdb gnome-clock-applet-mechanism 2>&1 | tee
~/gdb-gnome-clock-applet-mechanism.txt

** (process:31912): WARNING **: Could not acquire name; bailing out

Program exited with code 01.
(gdb) exit

(gdb) quit

So I tried the same thing with sudo, but that didn't seem to work
either:

o...@lucky:/usr/lib/gnome-panel$ sudo gdb gnome-clock-applet-mechanism 2>&1 |
tee ~/gdb-gnome-clock-applet-mechanism.txt

** (process:31920): DEBUG: Setting killtimer to 30 seconds...
** (process:31920): DEBUG: Exiting due to inactivity

Program exited with code 01.

I then tried to manually activate the clock settings program after
running gdb and that didn't create a backtrace either:

(gdb) run
Starting program: /usr/lib/gnome-panel/gnome-clock-applet-mechanism
[Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled]
** (process:31923): DEBUG: Setting killtimer to 30 seconds...
** (process:31923): DEBUG: Exiting due to inactivity

Program exited with code 01.
(gdb) backtrace full
No stack.

at that stage I tried to work according to the "Already running programs" part
of the manual for creating a backtrace, but I was unable to identify which
process I was trying to follow. Then I pretty much gave up :)
any ideas on what to do now would be welcome.

[Bug 565524] [NEW] CPU frequency applet intermittently fails to change CPU speed

2010-04-17 Thread Chris Rowson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

Release: Ubuntu lucid (development branch)

Gnome: Candidate: 1:2.28+1ubuntu3

Expected behaviour: When selecting either the performance option or a
higher CPU speed in the CPU frequency applet, the CPU speed should be
increased.

Actual behaviour: Usually this application behaves as expected. However
in some instances top shows CPU usage reach 100%,, the CPU remains
locked at 800MHz and selecting any other option seems to have no effect.
The laptop then becomes sluggish.

Other data: The CPU fan is constantly on. lshw report attached.

When attempting to report this bug, launchpad insists that gnome-
cpufreq-applet does not exist in Ubuntu

[Bug 564072] [NEW] DPI is not recognized by UBUNTU, so fonts, icons and the whole system is too small

2010-04-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,

I'm using a 147x145 DPI screen. The fonts, icons and all the whole
system seem too tinny.

If I change the
System>Preferences>Appearance>Fonts>Details...>Resolution from 96 to
145, the fonts of the desktop get better, but the icons still too tinny,
and the fonts in any other applications is still tinny.

I know that i can change the resolution of the screen to a smaller one
(actual is 1920x1200) but i don't want to do that because it downgrade
the quality of the display.

in Firefox, i can use Ctrl + to increase the fonts size, but this leads
sometime to bigger fonts in small frames so sometimes i can't see all
the fonts in a frame, or the frames can interfere with each others, and
the enlarged photos are really bad quality.

My question is :

Is there a real way to make all the fonts, icons, photos and the whole
system in all the applications to appear in a normal size instead of
this tinny size that i get only because i have a 1920x1200 on a 15"
screen ?

in termianl :

~:/var/log$ grep DPI Xorg.0.log

(--) NVIDIA(0): DPI set to (147, 145); computed from "UseEdidDpi" X
config

~$ xdpyinfo | grep reso

  resolution:147x145 dots per inch

And this is the right DPI of my screen 1920x1200 pixels (332x210
millimeters), but i don't know why the operating system is not applying
these DPI?

My config :
Clevo M860TU with Quadro FX 2700M
UBUNTU 9.10 ( but this problem was also in earlier releases )
Driver : NVIDIA 185 ( but i tried also 173 )

Thanks

[Bug 44989] Re: Doesn't print (large) PDF files

2010-04-17 Thread Barbazul
The above fix worked for me for printing a PNG image of 610.6 kb, taking
little over 5 minutes to print (I couldn't print it at all before the
change in config)

But then I tried printing a 1.3 Mb RTF and the issue was back! (a file
with only text, tables and a small logo)

I raised the number to 450m and still can't print it. How much memory is
required to print such a file? i'm thinking 450mb is too much.

I'm running Karmic on a 3-year-old PC with 600mb RAM, so 450mb is 75% if
the pc memory to print a rather small file... doesn't make any sense to
me.

[Bug 285783] Re: Evolution does not retain language options

2010-04-17 Thread Alexey Kotlyarov
Reopening, as this is still present in Lucid beta.

Symptoms:
The spell checking languages selected in Evolution aren't saved for the next
messages.

How to reproduce:
1. Install more than one language pack.
2. Compose a new message in Evolution.
3. From Edit menu, select another language for spell checking.
4. Send the composed message.
5. Compose another message.
6. Type some text in the language selected in step 3.
7. Open the Edit menu and check the selected spell checking languages.

Expected results:
The spell checking languages are retained between messages, and spell checking
in the new message uses the settings previously set.

Actual results:
The spell checking languages are reset to the user default language with each
new message.
