[Bug 568495] [NEW] Evince frequently replaces pi glyphs with not equal to and other substitutions.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince I see this in so many PDFs. 2≠ instead of 2π. This and other substitutions (μ - alpha, ∆ - O with a line through it) make many scientific papers completely unreadable. Interesting to note that copying and pasting these rogue glyphs does in fact give you the right character. XPDF has no such issues with exactly the same PDFs. I can upload an example if you want but it's really not hard to find. [Bug 568504] [NEW] evolution selectively shuts down when marking a task complete
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution This bug is for karmic, but it probably exists in lucid too. This is kind of a random bug, but I'm running into it more and more. Sometimes when you mark a task as completed, either through the tasks component of evolution or through the clock panel applet, evolution will suddenly quit. The task is saved as completed and evolution doesn't crash, but it does quietly shut down. The method for reproducing the bug are: 1. Open a window of evolution 2. Open _another_ window of evolution (i.e. click on the evolution launcher twice) 3. Close the evolution that opened up _first_ 4. Mark any task complete, either through the clock applet or the evolution window. Evolution should shut itself down without warning. This bug would be nothing more than a curiosity if not for the new indicator applet. There is a patch which allows evolution to run in the background without an open window. If this is ever accepted into ubuntu then users are going to face the following problem. 1. They will open and close a lot of evolution windows over the course of the day. 2. At some point they may mark a task complete by using the clock applet 3. Evolution will then close, but with no open window the user wont notice until they check the indicator applet and see that evolution is not running. (4. As a result they will be late reading time sensitive emails and when they get to the break room all of the snacks will be gone.) ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- evolution selectively shuts down when marking a task complete https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568504 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 568009] Re: sftp connection lost after short time
Hi A bit of background: Until 3 weeks ago, I was using Karmic, and I would ssh/sftp map the webroot of a server I have, for quick editing. This connection would remain stable until I unmounted it or shut down the PC. In addition to this, I was able to perform basic permissions work on files/folders on the server. The Nautilus properties applet would show names groups on the server. After the switch to Lucid (btw I performed a full dist-upgrade shortly after posting the bug- did not resolve problem). I can still use the Connect to server menu to mount the webroot folder, and I can access files, but if I go to the properties applet, the users and groups are displayed as numbers, not names, so I cannot easily change permissions either. After about 10-15 minutes, if i go to open the mounted connection, I will not see any files or folders. I then need to unmount, and re-connect to the server. I have book-marked the connection, and it will connect immediately, but still suffer the same time-out problem. TO REPRODUCE I can repeat this problem with PlacesConnect to ServerService Type SSH...use my credentials and complete the mount - it will invariably drop the connection. I have yet to test if this will occur if I keep active in this connection, ie copying files, editing a page, etc. but I do know it will time-out if I have a document or page open, but not working on it; I get a save error and have to reconnect again. I can connect with ssh at the command line and I have kept it open overnight, with no loss of connection. [Bug 568504] Re: evolution selectively shuts down when marking a task complete
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- evolution selectively shuts down when marking a task complete https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568504 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I reproduced this bug with an old version, but I don't find on which version. When I try on Evince 2.28.1, now it see it is a rar file and that the package is not installed instead of crashing. So I presume the bug is fixed. Previously workaround was to install rar package. For a newbe, it was not obvious to guess the crash were related to a missing package. [Bug 568577] [NEW] evolution selectively shuts down when marking a task complete
Open evolution and set it to the tasks component. 2. Open a window of evolution 3. Open _another_ window of evolution (i.e. click on the evolution launcher twice) 4. Close the evolution that opened up _first_ 5. Mark any task complete, either through the clock applet or the evolution window. Evolution should shut itself down without warning.
