Re: [Bug 539396] Re: rhytmbox cannot see my iphone
Yeh still not working for me either (although the seg fault did get fixed). I have tested on my laptop (clean lucid install) and it works fine. I also tested with lucid beta live CD and its works. So I suspect its an upgrade issue, tho have tried doing complete removal and re-install of all rhythmbox and iphone packages and that did not help. NO message, no output, no error is generated. I did have gconfd-2 crash on me earlier with the mesage "GConf error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: Could not send message to GConf daemon: Process /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconfd-2 exited, reason unknown)" I had to forcibly reset the computer to get back control. [Bug 573947] Re: no icons/ right click on desktop believed to be problem with nautilus
This affects me as well. More information: OS: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS I installed 10.04 from the minimal ISO, as the computer couldn't handle the larger ISOs (wonky drives). After the root installation was complete, I rebooted into the system. Did a quick apt-get install ubuntu-desktop, then rebooted into the system after the install was complete. Logged in, everything worked normal. Added three new users to the system. Upon reboot, noticed that right-click on desktop no longer works. Apparently, the gconf setting (apps > nautilus > preferences > show_desktop) were not being recalled. The setting was set to "true," as it was supposed to be. Upon setting to "false" then back to "true," the problem was fixed. However, after logging out then back in again, the problem returned. It seems the problem is with nautilus / gconf not reading the configuration file, or at the very least, missing the show_desktop variable. [Bug 574804] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.10 "Keep Aligned" checkbox will not stay unchecked
You have been subscribed to a public bug: In Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic) right-click the desktop and uncheck the "Keep Aligned" checkbox. Then reboot. Now the Keep Aligned checkbox is checked again. Keep Aligned automatically reverts to the checked state. I didn't have this problem with Ubuntu 9.04. Why can't I permanently uncheck the Keep Aligned checkbox? If you search Ubuntu Forums for the term "Keep Aligned", you will find several discussions about this bug, some dated almost 6 months ago. As yet no one has offered a solution. Several people, including myself, are very irritated by this bug. I want to custom-arrange my desktop, and not keep it aligned to a grid. Could someone from Ubuntu please respond to this post, and hopefully, offer a solution. ? ! Only *part* of the bug is in g-s-d. [Bug 546503] [NEW] HP touchpad-disable switch damages mouse and focus capability
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: xorg There's a chance this is more of a kernel bug than an xorg bug. I'm not sure. My HP Pavilion dv5t has a touchpad-disable button that's sometimes necessary when typing at a long stretch and you don't want to accidentally center-click in the window. I disabled the touchpad and was not able to make it come back. The little light goes from orange to white, which is an indication that the hardware thinks it's re-enabled. The problem can manifest in a few different ways. Sometimes the cursor moves but cannot click or focus anything. Sometimes the cursor simply will no longer react. Sometimes restarting GDM does not solve the problem. This last time, I even fully rebooted and was unable to get the mouse back. I was lucky that a little fiddling with the disable switch and restarting GDM again made it come back. I'm inclined to think this kernel output is involved: Mar 24 15:50:06 localhost kernel: [ 786.963086] psmouse.c: TouchPad at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 4 bytes away. Mar 24 15:50:06 localhost kernel: [ 787.476687] psmouse.c: resync failed, issuing reconnect request ...but it looks like it's happened in my logs at times when this effect was not seen. I believe the rest of my dmesg output is attached, so maybe there's something else in there that's enlightening. Let me know if you need any more info from me. Hi Sebastien, Is this a real bug and not my imagination? I thought maybe I just imagined it since I did not see it when I went looking for at another time. I have someone in my contacts with a birthday of 4-25 and I do not know what year they were born so I entered 2010. I have another contact with a birthday of 4-5 and I also do not know what year they were born so I also put 2010 for the year. For the contact with the birthday of 4-5, I see the reminder in the calendar. For the contact with the birthday of 4-25, I only see a reminder in the calendar when I change the year during the current session of Linux running; if I restart the computer, I no longer see the 4-25 birthday reminder in the calendar. I tried changing the years for the 4-25 birthday to 2009 then 2008 and I only see the reminder in the calendar during the current session of Linux running. Do I need to report the 4-25 birthday missing as a calendar reminder as separate bug or? How do I report the bug to the correct place? (Upstream?) I am not sure how to report the bug to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If I create a bug report using "Help", "Report a Problem", how do I send it to the correct place? [Bug 546183] Re: Rhythmbox does not transcode to mp3 or explain why
Let me help (since I'm seeing the same thing - thanks Dan for pointing out how to fix it): * Attach an MP3 player (an Applie iPhone 3GS in my case) which does not support the playing of OGG files. * Open RhythmBox (I'm using 0.12.8 as shipped with Ubuntu 10.04). * From your music library, select a file that's encoded as an OGG and drag and drop it to the attached MP3-only device. If you have gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse the file will be converted to mp3 and copied to the device as expected. If, however, you don't have that package installed, nothing at all will happen. No error message, no copying, nothing to indicate what has (or hasn't) gone on. [Bug 574832] [NEW] duplicate disk entry in nautilus sidebar
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus The combination of auto and user options in fstab seems to cause problems in nautilus, such that a duplicate entry for the partition is created which cannot be used. I added an entry to /etc/fstab for an internal partition, the entry is as follows: UUID=verylonguuid /media/data00 ext4defaults,auto,user 0 2 When using the "user" option in nautilus there are two entries: "data00" and "168 GB Dateisystem". Both are the same partition. The 168GB entry is used by the system, thus I can access the mounted partition by clicking the 168GB entry. But the data00 entry does not appear mounted and when I try to access the data00 entry an error message appears saying that /dev/sda5 is mounted already. Which is true, however, /etc/fstab accesses the partition by UUID and not by the device name. Removing the user option solves the problem, but users cannot mount or umount the partition anymore. [Bug 574818] [NEW] SSL + IRC Never Uses SSL
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy On Lucid, when trying to use SSL + IRC to connect to Freenode, no combination of settings will ever actually use SSL. According to Freenode's docs, they support SSL on 7000, and 7070. I've tried setting up a new IRC server with chat.freenode.net:7000 and 7070, every time it connects over port 6667. [Bug 572550] Re: Panel utilities not shown on startup
You are not alone... I've just experienced this bug on a new installation of Lucid final release on an old PIII machine with a matrox video card running a 5:4 ratio flat panel (not native 1024x768). The panels would show correctly after any change to their properties, but be incomplete again at the next login. My workaround was to change the screen resolution to 1024x768, after which the panels show correctly on login without any tweaking. I did see an odd 'flicker' effect on opening the screen, when the right hand edge (where the panel display is missing) was refreshed after the rest of the screen. -- Panel utilities not shown on startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/572550 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 561406] Re: Audio CD playback in Rhythmbox is constantly interrupted
Hi; sorry for the slow response. I have now upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04, with 0.12.8 - but I'm afraid I have the same problem when playing CDs. I've tried two other things: Importing a CD using Rhythmbox and then playing the files in the software: this plays back smoothly, without interruption to the sound. Playing the CD using Movie Player (2.3.0): this has the same problems as Rhythmbox (that is, sound is interrupted even though the CD continues to 'play' in the CD drive).
