Re: [Bug 539396] Re: rhytmbox cannot see my iphone

2010-05-03 Thread Tim
Yeh still not working for me either (although the seg fault did get
fixed).

I have tested on my laptop (clean lucid install) and it works fine.
I also tested with lucid beta live CD and its works.

So I suspect its an upgrade issue, tho have tried doing complete removal
and re-install of all rhythmbox and iphone packages and that did not help.

The program 'f-spot' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.
  (Details: serial 6642 error_code 1 request_code 156 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Program crashes after clicking on import or trying to open an image
already in f-spot. Had only started using f-spot yesterday, imported and
exported pictures. Soon as I try to use the f-spot today, it crashes as
soon as I try to do anything.

Play a song.

[Bug 574510] [NEW] gnome-terminal crashes or won't spawn new windows or tabs

2010-05-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

DESCRIPTION

Clicking link in Menu for Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal)
or CTRL-SHIFT-N or CTRL-SHIFT-T in an existing terminal window result in
a terminal window popping up *very* briefly, then crashing/disappearing.

NO message, no output, no error is generated.

I did have gconfd-2 crash on me earlier with the mesage

"GConf error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible
causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you
have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See
http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: Could
not send message to GConf daemon: Process /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconfd-2
exited, reason unknown)"

I had to forcibly reset the computer to get back control. I do not know
if that was related to this current problem, especially since when I had
that problem, all GTK apps started failing. Now, the problem appears to
be confined to gnome-terminal only.

[Bug 574913] [NEW] Able to play radio while error is displayed

2010-05-03 Thread C Benitez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

In Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 LTS, I am able to play a standard .m3u radio
station only after playing another station.

If I try to play my 'favorite' station first, I can't, and a "plugin
missing" error appears.

However, if I play a 'working' station and then switch to my 'favorite'
station, the 'favorite' station can now play, although it is still shown
as an error.

http://imgur.com/hbe9w.png

In the screenshot, RadioReddit is playing but only after WKNC was played
first.

Rhythmbox version is 0.12.8-0ubuntu3 0.

[Bug 573947] Re: no icons/ right click on desktop believed to be problem with nautilus

2010-05-03 Thread Eloquent Mess
This affects me as well. More information:

OS: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

I installed 10.04 from the minimal ISO, as the computer couldn't handle
the larger ISOs (wonky drives). After the root installation was
complete, I rebooted into the system. Did a quick apt-get install
ubuntu-desktop, then rebooted into the system after the install was
complete. Logged in, everything worked normal. Added three new users to
the system. Upon reboot, noticed that right-click on desktop no longer
works. Apparently, the gconf setting (apps > nautilus > preferences >
show_desktop) were not being recalled. The setting was set to "true," as
it was supposed to be. Upon setting to "false" then back to "true," the
problem was fixed. However, after logging out then back in again, the
problem returned.

It seems the problem is with nautilus / gconf not reading the
configuration file, or at the very least, missing the show_desktop
variable.

Attempted creating a new user, problem still existed in all users.

No clue where to go from here.

[Bug 574804] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.10 "Keep Aligned" checkbox will not stay unchecked

2010-05-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic) right-click the desktop and uncheck the "Keep
Aligned" checkbox. Then reboot. Now the Keep Aligned checkbox is checked
again. Keep Aligned automatically reverts to the checked state. I didn't
have this problem with Ubuntu 9.04.

Why can't I permanently uncheck the Keep Aligned checkbox?

If you search Ubuntu Forums for the term "Keep Aligned", you will find
several discussions about this bug, some dated almost 6 months ago. As
yet no one has offered a solution.

Several people, including myself, are very irritated by this bug. I want
to custom-arrange my desktop, and not keep it aligned to a grid.

Could someone from Ubuntu please respond to this post, and hopefully,
offer a solution. ? !

Thanks

roxat

[Bug 514658] Re: The sound is always muted at start

2010-05-03 Thread Dudude
I just compared my Lucid and Karmic installs and found that Lucid by
default does not have the "/apps/totem/volume" key.

Karmic does have the volume key, and in my case, it was set to 100. I'm
not sure if it defaulted to 100 or it was 100 because I set it through
totem or the totem plugin.

[Bug 539912] Re: [lucid] current battery charge not easily accessable

2010-05-03 Thread pauljohn32
I applied this patch (thanks Tom)
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/539912/comments/5
and it does help. Now a click on the battery icon reveals the percent charge.
It is very important to me because a 'full charge' is anything above 70%, and
the battery time is quite a bit different if the % is 70 or 90.

I wish a hover over that icon would display the %, as it used to do.
Having to click on it is a bit inconvenient.

[Bug 214370] Re: Logout/Shutdown Sound Not Working

2010-05-03 Thread Tars
I realize that this is a small issue, but from a usability standpoint,
it's something that people expect. A nice sound experience is essential
to a good user experience. Someone owns the broken code - we just need
to prioritize this. Claudio - you may say it's not a bug, but since
every other desktop OS since at least Windows 3.1 has done this in my
personal experience, and I distinctly remember the option in previous
versions of Ubuntu, that makes it a bug in my book. It used to work.

[Bug 546503] Re: HP touchpad-disable switch damages mouse and focus capability

2010-05-03 Thread Michael B. Trausch
Only *part* of the bug is in g-s-d. The part about not being able to
focus and all that, I'm not sure that has anything to do with g-s-d,
just the one "enabled" toggle for the touchpad, but something underlying
the toggle is not working and it's likely screen specific. You can
toggle the setting in g-s-d manually though and nothing breaks.

2010-05-03 Thread Stephen Keller
Public bug reported:

The gnome game swell-foop intermittently segfaults and leaves messages
like this in the /var/log/messages:

then it dies unexpectedly. The machine was minimally loaded at the time.

[Bug 546503] [NEW] HP touchpad-disable switch damages mouse and focus capability

2010-05-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: xorg

There's a chance this is more of a kernel bug than an xorg bug. I'm not
sure.

My HP Pavilion dv5t has a touchpad-disable button that's sometimes
necessary when typing at a long stretch and you don't want to
accidentally center-click in the window.

I disabled the touchpad and was not able to make it come back. The
little light goes from orange to white, which is an indication that the
hardware thinks it's re-enabled.

The problem can manifest in a few different ways.

Sometimes the cursor moves but cannot click or focus anything.
Sometimes the cursor simply will no longer react.
Sometimes restarting GDM does not solve the problem.

This last time, I even fully rebooted and was unable to get the mouse
back. I was lucky that a little fiddling with the disable switch and
restarting GDM again made it come back.

I'm inclined to think this kernel output is involved:

Mar 24 15:50:06 localhost kernel: [ 786.963086] psmouse.c: TouchPad at
isa0060/serio1/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 4 bytes away.
Mar 24 15:50:06 localhost kernel: [ 787.476687] psmouse.c: resync failed,
issuing reconnect request

...but it looks like it's happened in my logs at times when this effect
was not seen. I believe the rest of my dmesg output is attached, so
maybe there's something else in there that's enlightening.

Let me know if you need any more info from me.

Re: [Bug 573465] Re: Does not show two birthdays on the same day

2010-05-03 Thread LorenM
Hi Sebastien,

Is this a real bug and not my imagination?

I thought maybe I just imagined it since I did not see it when I went
looking for at another time.

I have someone in my contacts with a birthday of 4-25 and I do not know what
year they were born so I entered 2010. I have another contact with a
birthday of 4-5 and I also do not know what year they were born so I also
put 2010 for the year. For the contact with the birthday of 4-5, I see the
reminder in the calendar. For the contact with the birthday of 4-25, I only
see a reminder in the calendar when I change the year during the current
session of Linux running; if I restart the computer, I no longer see the
4-25 birthday reminder in the calendar. I tried changing the years for the
4-25 birthday to 2009 then 2008 and I only see the reminder in the calendar
during the current session of Linux running.

Do I need to report the 4-25 birthday missing as a calendar reminder as
separate bug or?

How do I report the bug to the correct place? (Upstream?)

I am not sure how to report the bug to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME.

If I create a bug report using "Help", "Report a Problem", how do I send it
to the correct place?

Thanks for your help,

Loren

[Bug 546183] Re: Rhythmbox does not transcode to mp3 or explain why

2010-05-03 Thread Bernie Duggan
Let me help (since I'm seeing the same thing - thanks Dan for pointing
out how to fix it):

* Attach an MP3 player (an Applie iPhone 3GS in my case) which does not support
the playing of OGG files.
* Open RhythmBox (I'm using 0.12.8 as shipped with Ubuntu 10.04).
* From your music library, select a file that's encoded as an OGG and drag and
drop it to the attached MP3-only device.

If you have gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse the file will be converted to
mp3 and copied to the device as expected.
If, however, you don't have that package installed, nothing at all will happen.
No error message, no copying, nothing to indicate what has (or hasn't) gone on.

This is consistently reproducible.

mounted. The error message says the UUID does not exist - which is not
true, since the automatic mount works perfectly fine using the given
UUID in fstab file.

[Bug 574832] [NEW] duplicate disk entry in nautilus sidebar

2010-05-03 Thread anton.pussep
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

The combination of auto and user options in fstab seems to cause
problems in nautilus, such that a duplicate entry for the partition is
created which cannot be used.

I added an entry to /etc/fstab for an internal partition, the entry is
as follows:

UUID=verylonguuid   /media/data00   ext4defaults,auto,user
0 2

When using the "user" option in nautilus there are two entries: "data00"
and "168 GB Dateisystem". Both are the same partition. The 168GB entry
is used by the system, thus I can access the mounted partition by
clicking the 168GB entry. But the data00 entry does not appear mounted
and when I try to access the data00 entry an error message appears
saying that /dev/sda5 is mounted already. Which is true, however,
/etc/fstab accesses the partition by UUID and not by the device name.
Removing the user option solves the problem, but users cannot mount or
umount the partition anymore.

[Bug 574830] [NEW] Post Lucid Lynx 10.04 upgrade from 9.10, unable to burn DVDs

2010-05-03 Thread Cali Burn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

1. Lucid Lynx 10.04, upgrade from 9.10
2. Using Brasero 2.30.0
3. Previously under 9.10 I was able to successfully burn DVDs (DVD-R) using
Brasero
4. Post 10.04, although the DVD drives are identified successfully, Brasero now
says that that it is unable to burn DVDs due to an internal error

This problem has ONLY occurred since an upgrade to Lucid Lynx - nothing else
has changed!
I also get this problem when attempting to burn using K9B.
It is NOT a media problem - I have since disconnected the drive from my Linux
machine, attached to Windows, and a DVD that Brasero rejected has now burnt
successfully on Windows.

Oddly enough, CD's burn successfully under Lucid... but not DVDs.

Have enabled the medibuntu repositories and re-installed (and upgraded)
libdvdcss, then restarted... no joy.

On Lucid, when trying to use SSL + IRC to connect to Freenode, no
combination of settings will ever actually use SSL. According to
Freenode's docs, they support SSL on 7000, and 7070. I've tried setting
up a new IRC server with chat.freenode.net:7000 and 7070, every time it

[Bug 572550] Re: Panel utilities not shown on startup

2010-05-03 Thread Neil Woolford
You are not alone...

I've just experienced this bug on a new installation of Lucid final
release on an old PIII machine with a matrox video card running a 5:4
ratio flat panel (not native 1024x768). The panels would show correctly
after any change to their properties, but be incomplete again at the
next login.

My workaround was to change the screen resolution to 1024x768, after
which the panels show correctly on login without any tweaking.

I did see an odd 'flicker' effect on opening the screen, when the right
hand edge (where the panel display is missing) was refreshed after the
rest of the screen.

[Bug 561406] Re: Audio CD playback in Rhythmbox is constantly interrupted

2010-05-03 Thread Tom Rank
Hi; sorry for the slow response. I have now upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04,
with 0.12.8 - but I'm afraid I have the same problem when playing CDs.

I've tried two other things:

Importing a CD using Rhythmbox and then playing the files in the
software: this plays back smoothly, without interruption to the sound.

Playing the CD using Movie Player (2.3.0): this has the same problems as
Rhythmbox (that is, sound is interrupted even though the CD continues to
'play' in the CD drive).

Any suggestions or anything else I can try?

Tom

Setting this to duplicate status is wrong.

I reported this bug because the documentation was at odds with what I saw in
the tool.
So with the new information that the tool was changed on purpose (was this
mentioned in the package README??),
this bug should be retitled - 'gnome-nettool: documentation describes a removed
feature (connections tab)'.

Why is this package even in the release?
In the default list of packages that get installed with the desktop and are
accessible from the desktop menu?
Thank you for wasting my time. Not.
