[Bug 195630] Re: Can't change permissions on a folder with nautilus.

2010-11-12 Thread DaneM
I just upgraded from 9.10 (amd64) to 10.04, and then immediately from
10.04 to 10.10. I have this same problem:

When I go to

Places > Home Folder > right-click on Public > Permissions tab

and try to change any of the "File Access" drop-downs, they all
immediately revert to "---". I have tried using 'chmod dane:dane
/home/dane/Public -R' and 'chown a+rwx /home/dane/Public -R' with no
effect. I have also tried running nautilus with 'sudo nautilus
/home/dane', and have not been able to change the file permissions. The
"Allow executing file as program" box is highlighted (solid orange
color), but cannot be checked or un-checked. I will try to attach a
screenshot of this.

As a result of this, I think, I am unable to use any nautilus-share
functionality that requires a change in permissions, such as "Allow
others to create and delete files in this folder" and "Guest access (for
people without a user account)". Whenever I try to use such an option,
nautilus entirely crashes (desktop icons flicker and then come back, and
all folder windows close). I have tried purging (sudo aptitude purge
...) and re-installing samba, samba-common, samba-common-bin, nautilus-
share, nautilus-gksu, nautilus-open-terminal, nautilus-sendto, and
nautilus-sendto-empathy; as well as purging, killing nautilus (killall
nautilus), starting nautilus, and trying to change permissions without
reinstalling those packages. None of this has worked.

I have also tried reinstalling (sudo aptitude reinstall ...) nautilus,
nautilus-data, nautilus-actions, and nautilus-scripts-manager (then
killing and restarting nautilus), but none of this has worked, either.

I have checked my fstab configuration, and my / partition (on which
/home/dane resides) does not have any unusual mount options. I'll
attach this as well. I would REALLY like to get this functionality back
(which I had in 9.10). Any suggestions? Need any more information?

Thanks for your interest in this bug.

[Bug 674789] [NEW] various different crashes with gnome-system-log

2010-11-12 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-log

There are two distinct types of crashes (one a segfault with weird list
behaviour where the log list gets replaced with eight dates, and
another, a sigabrt) I've encountered when closing logs with gnome-
system-log. If you close logs (^W) relatively quickly, then either of
these crashes occur.

1. log file list changes into days of the last week
This is especially odd. After closing several logs, the list gets replaced by
dates from the last week or so. See screenshot #1. Clicking any of these dates
segfaults the program:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

[Bug 671978] Re: it adds all songs from the music file automatically each time i start it

2010-11-12 Thread Steve Beattie
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

The minimum follows:
I am new to Linux. I installed Rhythmbox and opened Magnatune to view their
offerings. I tried to downld a set of songs without paying their fee. They
did dwnld along with the narrator and are somewhere on the system but I
cannot find them. They play at will unless I mute the sound out. I've tried
uninstalling Rhythmbox but they continue to play. Where could they be and
how can I delete them from the system?

[Bug 674730] [NEW] Totem uses Stereo sound while set at 5.1

2010-11-12 Thread WynX
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

When playing a song in totem, the audio starts in Stereo mode even when the
menu item says it's in 5.1 mode. The sound settings are configured correctly
for the rest of the system.
This can be 'solved' by setting the totem audio mode to Stereo (manually in
totem) and then back to 5.1 mode. A warning is displayed 'An error occurred The
stream is in the wrong format.' Playback of the audiofile is stopped
immediately, but playback can be started again (pressing play), the sound being
played over 5.1 mode succesfully.

System details;
---
Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat x86_64 (2.6.35-22-generic)
Totem 2.32.0-0ubuntu1
GStreamer 0.10.30
gstreamer0.10-alsa 0.10.30-2

---

I can supply more specific info if needed, but since i'm not really sure
whether Totem, Gstreamer or some transitional Alsa/Totem/Pulseaudio
package is to blame, i'll post them on request.

2010-11-12 Thread donald dickerson
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 10.10
Totem Movie Player 2.32.0
The dvd is obviously recognized as present in the drive, because it shows under
"Places" as "LITTLE MERMAID_2". When I click on it, it shows two file folders:
AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS along with a button that says, "Open Movie Player". When
I click the button, the Totem Movie Player opens and I get:
"Could not read from resource."

Anybody have any ideas how to proceed?

On my system, I'm using a 24hr clock. Timestamps in chat window are in am/pm

Needless to say, I don't want it to show in am/pm format.

[Bug 674625] Re: same songs play over and over

2010-11-12 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 674635] [NEW] TO: line auto fill issue

2010-11-12 Thread ABW
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Like most address book contact info one name may have several email
addresses. When typing a name into the TO line the name will populate
the drop down menu with all the addresses to that name. Normally I would
click on one and it would fill the TO line with that pick. The problem I
witness is when picking the address I want it fills the line in with the
first name on the list only no matter what I do. To get the address
right I have to OPEN the contacts window and bring up all the addresses
and manually pick and ADD, then it works ok. Clear as mud? Write me if
you need to.. Thanks..

Sebastien,
the correlation is, when a user changed in any way (incl. by accident) the
folder_open_with handling, afterwards is wondering and hence asking in forums,
why places menu /home now opens with eog, vlc, totem, firefox or whatever app

[Bug 674621] [NEW] Totem jumps to a random position when pausing after scrolling the video with mouse wheel

2010-11-12 Thread tulskiy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

If I scroll through a video with mouse wheel and then pause the video,
it jumps to a random position and if I hit play it will continue from
that position.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Open video in totem
2) scroll forwards and backwards with mouse wheel
3) pause

Expected result: video continues to play from where it was paused

Actual result: sometimes video continues to play from a random position,
usually plus or minus several seconds from where it was stopped.

[Bug 636329] Re: Gimp: Print preview and printout are blank pages

2010-11-12 Thread Xandros Pilosa
I am confirming that gimp 2.6.10-1ubuntu3.1 from maverick-proposed resolves the
issue.
It does not pull dependent packages libgimp2.0 and gimp-data to the
corresponding new version (2.6.10-1ubuntu3.1) though, but it's merely cosmetic
issue and doesn't matter in this case.
Many thanks to all who chimed in and made it work.

[Bug 357673] Re: No notification when sliding audio volume, muting volume on ThinkPad X23, X24, X31, X32, X41, X60, T22, T40, T42, T60, R50e, R51, R52

2010-11-12 Thread Simon Pfeifer
Christiansen workound works fine with 10.04 and 10.10 on my T60. Thanks!

But what does not work is the function of the mute-button itself. I can
mute and when I press the mute-button again it wont unmute. I then have
to press one of the lower- or higher-volume-buttons to get sound working
again.

is there any fix for that?

[Bug 674576] [NEW] reply email opens in different desktop and jumps when try to edit

2010-11-12 Thread Jim Fuqua
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When I try to reply to an email the reply message opens in a different
desktop. If I go to that desktop and try to edit the message it jumps
back to the correct desktop or remains with no text visible. Click on
it and it may have the text return or may jump to a different desktop.

It makes it impossible to reply to an email. It also does the same with
a new email.

This just started in the last couple of days. I reinstalled evolution
and the behavior remained.

This makes the email function unuseable.

Running the latest version of Ubuntu.

[Bug 674182] Re: trying to share folder causes nautilus to crash

2010-11-12 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 674573] [NEW] Totem can't load ass subtitles

2010-11-12 Thread iwtctw
Public bug reported:

I like totem but it's really annoying that it can never load the ass subtitles
rightly.
Even the built-in subtitles in mov which can't be loaded by both vlc and
mplayer can be handle perfectly, why totem refuses to load ass, though it claim
it can support it.

I try font setting for xine. But nothing happened

I also realize that a workaround for this is to change

not solve the problem.

[Bug 674563] [NEW] Passwordless users are prompted for their password when the screen locks

2010-11-12 Thread Mike Robinson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Ubuntu 10.10 fresh install

I created a new user and then executed the command

sudo passwd -d {username}

which deletes the user's password. In the Users and Groups utility,
beside "Password" it correctly says "None", however the user is still
able to lock their session (e.g. with the screen saver or user
switching) and therefore you cannot unlock it since the user has no
password.

I propose that the session locker should check whether or not the user
has a password, and if not, unlock the session automatically. I believe
that this is also what was causing Bug #439068, so possibly the fix
there could work as well by preventing the session from locking all
together if a user has no password.

Re: [Bug 674243] Re: NMEA files not opening with gedit

2010-11-12 Thread PANEL christian
thanks for your answer
I have examined this file : the problem is in my NMEA recorder that
seems to have added a 0x00 byte in it without notice (due certainly to a
weak up problem)
I joined the portion of the file which should be opened anyway,
particularly when user choose a character set.

best regards
