[Bug 533870] Re: Crash in SelfConfig on amd64

2011-01-25 Thread Marc Deslauriers
I was able to successfully verify the package in -proposed.

I started with a Lucid VM with the latest released updates. When
following the steps in the original report, I got the error message.
After updating to the package in -proposed and rebooting, I could now
edit and save the user successfully.

@Charlie: Did you reboot after updating the package? The system-tools-
backends daemon was probably still running...

I have successfully verified the update in -proposed. With lucid VM and

Attempts to verify this fix in -proposed failed using Xubuntu Lucid
10.04, fully updated before enabling -proposed. Both before and after
enabling proposed, I added a user, and restarted. I then went to System

the User ID to 975. I closed Users and Groups and restarted. The User ID
changes back to 1001 each time.

[Bug 436936] Re: gdm upstart job checks /proc/cmdline for single user mode, won't start on post-boot runlevel change

2011-01-25 Thread Evan Broder
Of course, once something does actually trigger the gdm job to run (with
the exception of doing "start gdm" directly), that will still trigger
command-line inhibition code originally described in this bug, so we
would still need to do something about that.

[Bug 436936] Re: gdm upstart job checks /proc/cmdline for single user mode, won't start on post-boot runlevel change

2011-01-25 Thread Evan Broder
So based on some digging, I don't think the issue here is actually the
one described, at least not immediately.

Booting with "single" in /proc/cmdline causes the system to emit the
runlevel S event (read "switch to runlevel S" if you don't feel like
thinking Upstart-y). When the user exits out of the recovery menu (i.e.
chooses to "resume"), the rcS job (/etc/init/rcS.conf) emits a rc-
sysinit FROM_SINGLE_USER_MODE=y event, which in turn triggers a runlevel
2 event (read "switch to runlevel 2").

That in turn will run all of the sysvinit-style init scripts in
/etc/rc2.d, but the conditions that caused the gdm job to run (i.e.
filesystem and started dbus and (drm-device-added ... or stopped
udevtrigger)) have already passed, and those conditions aren't going to
happen again.

It seems like handling the recovery mode purely in terms of runlevels is
a bad idea, since runlevels are mostly an obsolete idiom in the Upstart
world, but I'm not sure what a better idiom would be.

[Bug 436936] Re: gdm upstart job checks /proc/cmdline for single user mode, won't start on post-boot runlevel change

2011-01-25 Thread Jonathan Reed
This bug is still present in Lucid.

It is exacerbated by the fact that recovery mode offers a "resume"
option which is supposed to return the machine to its normal state.
However, since recovery mode is single user mode, gdm never starts.

It would be great if this was finally fixed in Natty, especially since
it's a one line fix.

[Bug 653623] Re: gvfs-gphoto2 eating 100% CPU and no I/O operations

2011-01-25 Thread Carl Friis-Hansen
This is not only 100% CPU usage, it is also a memory problem. It looks like the
copy operation wants to acquire the whole file in memory during the copy. This
is not a serous problem for normal pictures under 20MB, but I just gave up
copying a 2GB MOV file from a Canon 7D to Ubuntus 10.04 using USB cable. The
following path was shown in Nautilus:
gphoto2://[usb:001,006]/DCIM/100EOS7D

Related to this bug is that the limitation in when to show preview. When
you disable preview for files over 50MB, this setting is ignores for
files on the digi cam. This is a problem because the transfer rate is
not fast, it takes 100% CPU and takes just as much memory as the size of
the file processed for preview. The only way I found to avoid this, is
to disable preview of other media altogether.

Workaround appears to be to take out the CF anf stuff it directly into
the computer.

[Bug 707543] Re: no work

2011-01-25 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 705761] Re: gnome-power-preferences uses wrong time units (seconds instead of minutes)

2011-01-25 Thread Marcel Stimberg
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 513468 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/513468

Ah, I now see the problem. There are two different settings: Switching
off the screen after a certain time (that is what you set with "Put
display to sleep when inactive for" and uses hh:mm values) and "dim the
screen when idle". The latter setting does not care for the time you set
but uses a standard value of 10 seconds. You can change this value using
gconf-editor ( /apps/gnome-power-manager/backlight/idle_dim_time ). I
agree that this is not user-friendly and apparently also against what
the documentation says. This has alread been reported as bug #513468,
I'm therefore marking this bug as a duplicate.

** Changed in: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu)

[Bug 707606] [NEW] GtkMenus doen't show on Glade's canvas in Natty

2011-01-25 Thread Sense Hofstede
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: glade-3

In Ubuntu 11.04 alpha, natty, a GtkMenu won't show up on Glade's canvas
when running it in Unity. I suspect that the adaptations made to Gtk+
cause the GtkMenu to be hidden in the Glade interface designer as well.
This makes the menu not show up anywhere.

I think that we ought to make the menu show in the interface editor, so
you can edit it. You cannot edit the menu if it is not there.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04
Package: glade 3.7.3-0ubuntu1

[Bug 466123] Re: When trying to play a DVD, an error message is displayed: No URI handler implemented for "dvd"

2011-01-25 Thread peterzay
In Ubuntu 10.04, I still can't play a DVD but the error message has
changed from the original report. Now, I get: No packages with the
requested plugins found The requested plugins are DVD source. When I
click OK in the info window, I get: An error occurred The playback of
this movie requires a DVD source plugin which is not installed. (see 2
attachments)

In Ubuntu 10.10, The OS does not recognize the physical insertion of the
DVD. File manager does not see the DVD when I double click on the
hardware in Computer view.

2011-01-25 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Natty Narwhal. It would help us greatly if you
could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next
release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release
at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your
help.
