[Bug 728273] [NEW] Nautilus trash can't open OpenOffice files

2011-03-03 Thread iox
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In Ubuntu 10.10, Nautilus trash works well while opening TXT or PDF
documents, but when you try to open an ODT file with OpenOffice, it is
opened with the file archiver instead of OpenOffice. Using right click
 Open with doesn't help either.

Yes. Unity 2D uses a session overlay. The associated MR for the unity-2d

[Bug 727419] Re: 'Blurring' of text in Gnome terminal

2011-03-03 Thread Brendan Donegan
I'm sure you're correct about that. I reported it against gnome-terminal
because I thought the logs from 'ubuntu-bug gnome-terminal PID might
have directly relevant information.

Unfortunately I only saw this behavior on an upgraded system (Maverick
Natty) and the said system has since been wiped (I was using it for ISO
testing). If you give me some time I can reinstall Maverick and then
upgrade again and try and get it reproduced in terminator.

Alternatively, perhaps if Gary M (above) still has his setup, he might
be able to try your suggestion. Otherwise, I will get back to you ASAP.

[Bug 728310] [NEW] Microphone mute not supported

2011-03-03 Thread Daniël van Eeden
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

For audio output muting there is
/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/keybindings/volume_mute, but there is no
input (microphone) mute shortcut gnome-keybinding-properties.

On a Lenovo Thinkpad T410s this is the ACPI event for the microphone mute
button.
$ acpi_listen
ibm/hotkey HKEY 0080 101b

This is on Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick)

1. Please allow a shortcut for microphone mute
2. Bind the ACPI event to that shortcut

There is a XF86AudioMute defined in /usr/share/X11/XKeysymDB, but not
something like XF86InputMute

[Bug 728310] Re: Microphone mute not supported

2011-03-03 Thread Daniël van Eeden
I've used this as work-around
Added a new keyboard shortcut which executes this:
/usr/bin/pacmd set-source-mute alsa_input.pci-_00_1b.0.analog-stereo 1

This is binded to 0xf8 (which is the mute key).

The only issue is that this doesn't toggle mute, so it only mutes and
never unmutes.

looks quite like it, thanks for digging ;)

If not, Facebook should be set to
 offline when Empathy is Away.

yeah, away/idle is quite annoying, when it doesn't work. people see you
online and message you, expecting you to respond, since you're neither
busy nor away.
Some will always think you're ignoring them or being indifferent, when you
don't respond.

Interpreting Away as Offline on the other hand is a little harsh and
doesn't solve the problem at all.

ok, the installed versions log has libglib2.0-0 2.28.1-1ubuntu1 but
10.10 which you are using has 2.26, seems you installed non official
versions or did partial upgrades, seems a local user issue rather than a
bug

[Bug 727410] Re: unity used instead of metacity when logging in as a user via ltsp

2011-03-03 Thread Didier Roche
@Stéphane: so, we have a tool which is call unity_support_test located at
/usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test.
This is the tool deciding if we launch unity or compiz or not…

There are some cases where this tool can crash and it's under fix. You
can run manually /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p to get the full
output (basically, it needs):

$ /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p

So, classic GL support + FBO. Can you check that it's either working or
crashing (there is a 5s timeout as well)

[Bug 728448] Re: gdm-simple-slave crashed with SIGSEGV in g_match_info_matches()

2011-03-03 Thread Muelli
I installed a newer lbglib because I saw gdm crashing in glib and I
thought that an updated version helps it not to crash.

But anyway, gdm (I guess it's more glib though) apparently doesn't work
with that version of libpcre. Hence the dependency it must be modelled.

$ apt-cache policy libpcre3
libpcre3:
  Installed: 8.12-3
  Candidate: 8.12-3
  Version table:
 *** 8.12-3 0
400 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 8.02-1 0
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main amd64 Packages

I had 8.02-1 installed and updated to 8.12-3.

[Bug 728525] [NEW] benchmark window is not descriptive enough

2011-03-03 Thread summerishere
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

This is a bug about Benchmark utility in gnome-dick-utility.

There is no warning / info if read / write tests are destructive or safe
to be used on a live system.

Green lines and dots at the bottom are confusing to the user and don't
tell the user what they mean.

Also , It would be awesome if there was some way that this info could be sent
back to some database at ubuntu and users can see and compare what other users
are getting..

[Bug 728112] Re: Computer unable to wake from suspend

2011-03-03 Thread slowtrain
Hello:

I'm one of the people affected by this bug. I've filed an earlier
report on this bug, which you can find here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/722039

As indicated in that report, I did try an upstream (mainline) kernel,
with exactly the same result.

The problem here is a significant one and it appears to be a regression.
I paid a lot of money to get a computer from a company that specializes
in Ubuntu. The machine worked fine for a couple days and then suddenly
started having these hibernate / suspend issues-- possibly as a result
of a linux kernel upgrade (that's what the company thinks).

Because of the way I use this machine, with frequent breaks of
indeterminant length and the need to have a large number of files and
applications open simultaneously for my work, plus some revulsion for
having a 200+ watt device running continuously, not having suspend /
hibernate makes this machine non-viable for me. I'll likely be
returning it.

I got the machine because my 5-year-old HP computer went from no
hibernate / suspend issues (in Ubuntu 8.xx) to system freezes every 3-5
hibernates or suspends (in 9.xx+). More than a year after describing
these issues on launchpad, the problem remains. (Granted, it must be
very hard to determine and fix problems without access to the specific
computers that are having problems.) With my kind of experiences, I'm
beginning to conclude the only way to have a viable Ubuntu system for my
work is virtualization on a Windows machine--perhaps.

[Bug 728625] [NEW] Rhyhtmbox Not Updating Tags/Cover Art

2011-03-03 Thread Jmadero
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I use Easy Tag to tag/add cover art to my mp3 files. Banshee and Amarok
both have update entire collections to check for changes and update as
needed. Rhythmbox does not have this feature and therefore my files are
not being updates (specifically cover art seems to be a big problem
although tags are acting up as well). I know that the option to remove
the rhyhtmbox config files and rebuild libraries is an option but this
would remove all of my podcasts subscriptions as well as ratings for
songs.

Thanks in advance

[Bug 164120] Re: file manager hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible

2011-03-03 Thread Ben
I do not believe this is a NFS issue because I receive the same issue
using smbfs mounted in /media/remotedrive. Nautilus fails to respond
when the network becomes unavailable.

I have a workaround thats annoying, but works. Execute the following commands
in the Alt+F2 prompt.
1. gksudo umount /media/remotedrive
2. killall nautilus

Steps to reproduce
1. Create a samba share on a remote computer
2. Install the smbfs package
3. Add an entry in fstab to mount your remote share
//remoteserver/export   /media/remotedrive  smbfs
rw,noauto,user,async,uid=1000,gid=1000,credentials=secretfile 0 0
4. Remove the computer from the network (physically)
At this point, Nautilus stops responding.

[Bug 524497] Re: Positioning of login screen 'panel' inconsistent with desktop's

2011-03-03 Thread Severin Heiniger
Are there any reasons not to move the panel to the top in GDM? The
consistency with the desktop could be increased even more by making the
panel (as well as the login pane) dark, since this is the default
setting for the desktop (Ambiance). This is of less importance than the
position, though.

I for one absolutely agree with Jani's reasoning.

[Bug 233889] Re: nautilus cannot handle

2011-03-03 Thread David K Rose
I had this problem in Ubuntu 10.10 . The problem seems to arise after
you install glib. It's inconvenient, because not only do I not get a
nautilus session from PlacesComputer, but various drives - especially
usb sticks - fail to auto-mount. I don't of course know the real cause,
but here's a work-around that gets rid of the problem. The culprits are
/usr/local/lib/libgio-2.0.so.0 libgio-2.0.so.0.2899.0 . The 1st of
these is a symbolic link to the 2nd. Create a folder
/usr/local/lib/preventNautilusCrash and put these two files there along
with a README explaining why. Who knows: maybe they are needed, so
don't destroy them. Anyway, this fixed the nautilus problem for me.

[Bug 728700] [NEW] Nautilus doesn't clean up temporary files from cancelled file copies

[Bug 725347] Re: bug appeared iin download: getdeb.list.bck in sources list

2011-03-03 Thread Andreas Moog
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

2011-03-03 Thread Scaler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Description:Ubuntu 10.10
Release:10.10
gnome-panel: 2.30.2-1ubuntu3

What I expect to happen:
select the 'last-opened-and-moved' window using the mousewheel on the
gnome-panel.

What happened instead:
minimization of the window.

To reproduce, follow those steps :
* open some windows (no matter which)
* open one last window (no matter which) and move its position within the
gnome-panel bar with the mouse
* change selected window using the mousewheel on the gnome-panel bar
* come back to the 'last-opened-and-moved-window' using the mousewheel on the
gnome-panel bar
result : this window is minimized instead of selected!

Works only with the last opened window (whichever its content) and if no
other windows were moved meanwhile.
Works with any place for the moved window, even 'not moving' it (but you
still need to clic, hold and move a little).
Works only once after each move of the last opened window and only if no
max/minimization were done since the moving.

This occurs on my two PC (laptop and desktop).

[Bug 728758] Re: Gnome-panel minmize windows when using mousewheel

2011-03-03 Thread Scaler
I did some other tests.
It seems to happen a lot more often than what I've described above.
Even windows which are not the last opened one are sometimes being minimized
after being moved. But it doesn't happen after every move (unlike with the last
opened one).

[Bug 728794] [NEW] totem cannot play video; BadValue

2011-03-03 Thread psl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Ubuntu 10.10, i386
totem 2.32.0-0ubuntu1

I report this bug under Totem package but I don't think it is in Totem.
I don't know where the problem is; it could be X-server issue.

When I reboot my PC, video works fine, I can play it in Totem, VLC, etc.
But after several videos, something gous wrong and I cannot play videos
anymore. I have to restart GNOME session or reboot my PC. When I have
problem, Totem doesn't work, VLC doesn't work, etc. I think that mplayer
works.

I think this problem was not in Ubuntu 6.06 but it was in U10.04 and it
is still in U10.10.

When I have a problem and I run totem from command line, I see this
error:

$ totem *avi
The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 137 error_code 2 request_code 133 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Re: [Bug 723385] Re: some mp3 files are not recognized by Nautilus

2011-03-03 Thread teledyn
it took a while to find an example, but here it is with a screen shot
showing the Nautilus screen; I think the salient details is the odd bitrate
(56kbps) reported by File -- I noticed this on one of the other examples, a
super-low bitrate reported, and yet the audio file itself sounded fine, as
clear as any of the neighbouring 128 or 192kbps files.

1. however, keybord works, so I am able to switch to tty terminal and
from there I am able manually start gnome-panel, nautilus and with
DISPLAY=:0.0 app-name

2. I checked to ensure, that the file system is ok, by creating/touching
a file /forcefsck
