[Bug 727419] Re: 'Blurring' of text in Gnome terminal
I'm sure you're correct about that. I reported it against gnome-terminal because I thought the logs from 'ubuntu-bug gnome-terminal PID might have directly relevant information. Unfortunately I only saw this behavior on an upgraded system (Maverick Natty) and the said system has since been wiped (I was using it for ISO testing). If you give me some time I can reinstall Maverick and then upgrade again and try and get it reproduced in terminator. Alternatively, perhaps if Gary M (above) still has his setup, he might be able to try your suggestion. I installed a newer lbglib because I saw gdm crashing in glib and I thought that an updated version helps it not to crash. But anyway, gdm (I guess it's more glib though) apparently doesn't work with that version of libpcre. [Bug 728525] [NEW] benchmark window is not descriptive enough
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility This is a bug about Benchmark utility in gnome-dick-utility. There is no warning / info if read / write tests are destructive or safe to be used on a live system. [Bug 728112] Re: Computer unable to wake from suspend
Hello: I'm one of the people affected by this bug. I've filed an earlier report on this bug, which you can find here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/722039 As indicated in that report, I did try an upstream (mainline) kernel, with exactly the same result. The problem here is a significant one and it appears to be a regression. I paid a lot of money to get a computer from a company that specializes in Ubuntu. The machine worked fine for a couple days and then suddenly started having these hibernate / suspend issues-- possibly as a result of a linux kernel upgrade (that's what the company thinks). Because of the way I use this machine, with frequent breaks of indeterminant length and the need to have a large number of files and applications open simultaneously for my work, plus some revulsion for having a 200+ watt device running continuously, not having suspend / hibernate makes this machine non-viable for me. I'll likely be returning it. I got the machine because my 5-year-old HP computer went from no hibernate / suspend issues (in Ubuntu 8.xx) to system freezes every 3-5 hibernates or suspends (in 9.xx+). More than a year after describing these issues on launchpad, the problem remains. (Granted, it must be very hard to determine and fix problems without access to the specific computers that are having problems.) With my kind of experiences, I'm beginning to conclude the only way to have a viable Ubuntu system for my work is virtualization on a Windows machine--perhaps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/728112 Title: Computer unable to wake from suspend -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 164120] Re: file manager hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible
I do not believe this is a NFS issue because I receive the same issue using smbfs mounted in /media/remotedrive. Nautilus fails to respond when the network becomes unavailable. I have a workaround thats annoying, but works. Execute the following commands in the Alt+F2 prompt. 1. gksudo umount /media/remotedrive 2. killall nautilus Steps to reproduce 1. Create a samba share on a remote computer 2. Install the smbfs package 3. Add an entry in fstab to mount your remote share //remoteserver/export /media/remotedrive smbfs rw,noauto,user,async,uid=1000,gid=1000,credentials=secretfile 0 0 4. Remove the computer from the network (physically) At this point, Nautilus stops responding. uname -a Linux 2.6.35-27-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 22 20:25:29 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164120 Title: file manager hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 233889] Re: nautilus cannot handle
I had this problem in Ubuntu 10.10 . The problem seems to arise after you install glib. It's inconvenient, because not only do I not get a nautilus session from PlacesComputer, but various drives - especially usb sticks - fail to auto-mount. I don't of course know the real cause, but here's a work-around that gets rid of the problem. The culprits are /usr/local/lib/libgio-2.0.so.0 libgio-2.0.so.0.2899.0 . The 1st of these is a symbolic link to the 2nd. Create a folder /usr/local/lib/preventNautilusCrash and put these two files there along with a README explaining why. Who knows: maybe they are needed, so don't destroy them. Anyway, this fixed the nautilus problem for me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/233889 Title: nautilus cannot handle -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 728758] [NEW] Gnome-panel minmize windows when using mousewheel
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel Description:Ubuntu 10.10 Release:10.10 gnome-panel: 2.30.2-1ubuntu3 What I expect to happen: select the 'last-opened-and-moved' window using the mousewheel on the gnome-panel. What happened instead: minimization of the window. To reproduce, follow those steps : * open some windows (no matter which) * open one last window (no matter which) and move its position within the gnome-panel bar with the mouse * change selected window using the mousewheel on the gnome-panel bar * come back to the 'last-opened-and-moved-window' using the mousewheel on the gnome-panel bar result : this window is minimized instead of selected! Works only with the last opened window (whichever its content) and if no other windows were moved meanwhile. Works with any place for the moved window, even 'not moving' it (but you still need to clic, hold and move a little). Works only once after each move of the last opened window and only if no max/minimization were done since the moving. This occurs on my two PC (laptop and desktop). Re: [Bug 723385] Re: some mp3 files are not recognized by Nautilus
it took a while to find an example, but here it is with a screen shot showing the Nautilus screen; I think the salient details is the odd bitrate (56kbps) reported by File -- I noticed this on one of the other examples, a super-low bitrate reported, and yet the audio file itself sounded fine, as clear as any of the neighbouring 128 or 192kbps files.
